Franklin Graham on the Christian faith of Barack Obama and the GOP field

If you have a spare 15 minutes and don’t mind being uncomfortable throughout, watch this clip from today’s “Morning Joe” on MSNBC of the Rev. Franklin Graham assessing the Christian beliefs of President Barack Obama and his GOP challengers – Rick Santorum, Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.

Honestly, I could have shortened it, but much of the context would have been lost:

he seems to be doing a prtty good JOB.

Liberal Obama juicedrinkers how come you aren’t angry with the corrupt Obama (Hillary included) adminstration for using the State Department as a bank for the PLO, Hamas, Hezbullah, and the Muslim Brotherhood during these hard economic times for Americans. These same Muslim terrorists are the same ones killing our soldiers, and firing missles at Israel. Obama and Hillary have given away billions of our tax dollars to these criminals. And Obama the Muslim President just promised a billion dollars more to Egypt and another 800 million to the PLO, and Hamas thru State department for the Muslim Brotherhood.

There are a great many liberal (I would suspect African American posters) on these blogs everyday accusing all conservative white people in Georgia as being members of the KKK as some of our ancestors were. Since you all believe this then why not believe that Obama is a Muslim according to Shari law? The bloggers beliefs on this board is that a man has to still suffer from their fathers beliefs.

This is the second time Graham pulled this cheap shot stunt. It’s appalling to me that he claims to be a man of God and of faith and yet will not outright accept the word of someone else who says that they as well. You can have a disagreement with someone’s politics, but if a person says they have accepted Jesus as their personal savior you are playing with fire to act like you have the right to decide whether or not it’s true.

As usual, these idiots out here just keep appealing to their fringe base. First of all, where is it written that the POTUS, no matter who he is, has to officially declare a religion? Second, even if Obama was a Muslim (which he’s not), so freaking what? We have politicians who are Muslim (Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison is the first that comes to mind) and so far, he hasn’t tried to incorporate Sharia law or any of that other nonsense that comes from the right these days.

So tired of religion/faith even being brought up as if it’s IMPORTANT or BELONGS in our politics. The only time a politician’s religion needs to be scrutinized is if he/she shows any intent to allow it to undermine his/her oath to defend The Constitution. Any politician that would look to usurp this SUPREME document in the name of any religious dogma is not fit for office.

Martin Luther had it right.

TD, your ingorance continues to amaze me. I guess I should assume you are a white conservative because you support Republican viewpoints. Here is a little math lesson for you. Blacks only make 13% of the US population. The % of the voting population is probably lower. Therefore, President Obama had to have support from white population to be elected. There are liberals of all ethnic backgrounds who support the President. Stop with the race card.

I didn’t realize Rev. Graham was our savior and Lord and has been annointed to determine who is a Christain and who is not. This was nothing more than a suttle political pitch for his buddy Rick.

so td are you still wearing the white robe and cone hat? What a fricking stupid statement. I believe President Obama is a Christian because he says he is and he portrays that in many of the media clips I see from him. I actually came to faith in Christ at a Billy Graham crusade in Tampa, FL many years ago, but if I ever have to listen to Franklin Graham again it will make me wonder!

And frankly it doesn’t matter if Preseident Obama is a christian or not because he is here to lead the country that is supposed to be free from state-sponsored religion. You can believe whatever you want, but it is not your job or the president’s job to tell me what to believe.

Right-wing churches are so off from the Bible they claim to be the word of God. In it the mission is to spread the gospel (Good News) and love people. Today’s churches are about money, politics, and judgement. Nothing more. Yeah – they may throw a few scraps to the poor and hungry here and there, but the majority of their money goes to build buildings, pay staff, buy all the latest gadgets, etc. So now how is that “christian?”

The only thing uncomfortable about that interview is watching the inquisition of Rev. Graham by a bunch of Obama loving liberals. That was extremely awkward to witness Willie, John, Alex and Barnacle arrogantly sitting in judgement of a man who has spent his entire life in the service of God and working to help others less fortunate than himself…and I’m an agnostic.

MSNBC is a joke, but nobody gets it since they attract about as many viewers as an Atlanta Hawks game.

Obama is definitely Muslim. He puts more time dedication into that faith and doesn’t give two cents to the killing of Christians in Muslim countries. There are no outcries when Christian’s are murdered and their churches burn. Let someone burn the Koran in the street and see what happens then. I can guaranty you that Obama will hold a national press conference. Extreme Muslim terrorists killed innocent people on 9/11. You can back those savages all you want. They are what they are and so is Obama. Franklin Graham was to be the speaker on the National Day of Prayer but because he dared to speak out against the Muslim terrorists, he was told he could not participate. Then Obama makes this grand gesture of showing up at the Graham house as if he had no clue of what was going on. Ignornace is killing this country and most of your comments are just that, ignorant.

The reason politicians must declare themselves as Christian is because there are so many uneducated voters that would never vote for a non-Christian. To try and convince the uneducated that a non-Christian can be moral is a useless exercise. You cannot use logic and reason in an argument with someone that doesn’t believe in logic and reason.

Progressives think that the most modern beliefs are the most correct beliefs. They think they can dismiss what the scriptures teach, because modern man has progressed to the point that we know more than people of history or the Bible. A true Christian is known by the fruit that he produces from his life which follows the example of Jesus. It was very clear that the interviewers were all Progressives.

Since the Republican candidates have nothing to offer the American people they are playing the religion card. Problem is they have forgotten one of Jesus’ key instructions, “he who is without sin cast the first stone”. Since the R’s insist on throwing rocks of large size their sins must be sins of large size. Too bad this is all they can come up with. It will be fun when the general election arrives as their “holier than thou” stance won’t play well out of the red states.

Fighting a stupid war for absolutely nothing, while you’re sorry butt is doing NOTHING. You need to do some reading and research and find out what this man is all about. I don’t have to prove any thing to you. June 26, 2011, let’s all come togther and combine the Islam and Christian faiths because both the Bible and Koran mention Jesus. However, in the Koran, Jesus is an executioner and in the Bible He is a savior. Read the headlines sometimes, Obama is against Jews who are God’s chosen people. Read your bible, if you have one. Facts are facts. I suggest you start searching out the truth before you are forced into a religion you don’t want to be in.

This guy’s just a chip off an old block. Today’s media gives the Dad a pass on his bad behavior in the 1960s when he strongly advocated for the Vietnam War and called for harsh crackdowns on those who, unlike himw, actually believed in Jesus’ teachings.

In the interview this guy sends out all kinds of “dog whistle” messages to his anti-everything-but-me base. A subtle lie is still just a lie.I seriously don’t think this guy believes in a judgement day or he wouldn’t do everything he can do to appeal to such a low ccommon denominator. What a hypocrite!

Thank the previous administration for that boneheaded move.

However, in the Koran, Jesus is an executioner

Really? You’ve read the Qu’ran? I doubt it.

Like all prophets in Islam, Jesus is considered to have been a Muslim (i.e., one who submits to the will of God), as he preached that his followers should adopt the “straight path” as commanded by God.

Makes your head explode, right? I doubt it. You’ll just think I’m lying. Did you know that Jesus is mentioned more times in the Qu’ran than Muhammed?

Marniemom, I have news for you: the POTUS, regardless of who he is, is NOT required to show a birth certificate. That was a result of a bunch of narrow minded racists who just couldn’t stomach the idea of a black man with a strange sounding same occupying the White House. Personally, Obama should have told each and every one of them to f**k off, but he has to maintain a certain level of decorum, so he couldn’t just come out and say that. Point is, Obama is a US citizen, and no amount of birther drivel can change that.

Rev Graham said that he takes Obama for his word that he is a Christian but points out that Sharia law states that he is Muslim because his father, GF and GGF were Muslims and you leftest go nuts, If religion does not matter to you leftest then why all the uproar?

He said that he personally would question whether Obama’s church in Chicago doctrine (Liberation theology) was a Christian doctrine and said that most Christians question Mormonism as a Christian doctrine. I think he also said he did not agree with all the tenets of the Catholic church. The man is a Protestant what did you expect? Liberals are never satisfied. They won’t be satisfied until people claim that Barack Obama is Jesus Christ Himself. And frankly that’s the only way most liberals would ever trust Jesus.

To Carole: Franklin Graham is not “pulling a stunt”. He clearly stated that he asked Obama about his conversion to Christianity and Obama replied that when he was working in Chicago he was asked what church he attended. Obama said he didn’t attend church and then was told that he must in order to get along in “the community”. Obama took the advice and joined a church–”Reverend” Wright’s Church. BUT Obama never said that he accepted Jesus Christ as Savior–and that, as Graham explained, is the only definition of Christianity. Obama ducked the answer just as he voted “present” while in both the Illinois state senate and U.S. Senate. Expressed differently, Obama NEVER told Graham that he was a Christian–only that he joined a church. Some people, unfortunately, will never understand the difference.

Rev. Graham is well informed and expresses his ideas clearly. His “interviewers” clearly have an anti-Christian bias and are poorly informed. Secular apologists I’d call them.

Rev. Graham knows that God’s “mercy” is withholding the punishment we deserve for our sins, while “grace” is God giving us the free gift that we do not deserve–eternal life by accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior.

God Bless Franklin Graham for spreading the Gospel–the Good News of Jesus Christ.
