Gingrich, Bachmann, Huntsman and Santorum join Perry in Virginia ballot challenge

If they can not achieve 10,000 signatures to get on the ballot, why do they
feel they can win any delegates. It’s not feasible. Plus the candidates knew what
the regulations were before the VA cutoff point. A state has the right to set up
their own rules. It’s been that way for years.

It is amazing that those who claim to be against activist judges and against lpeople filing lawsuits, now have filed suit to get a judge to ignore rules that everybody else played by and asking him to make up new rules just for them. Hypocrisy personified!!

Katie, are you serious? This has nothing to do with a system favoring an incumbent, or a spectrum of choice. The candidates were instructed on how to get on the ballot and simply failed to follow the rules. Instead of doing so, they are trying to waste taxpayer money and jam up the courts to bend the rules to meet their needs. Responsible leadership exemplified? I think not.

Kind of like that little Constitutional requirement that says you have to be a “natural born Citizen” to be eligible to run for President or Vice President? I guess African Americans running for the office do not have to follow the rules either due to privilege.

If you can’t get on a primary ballot I seriously doubt you have the necessary national organization behind you to beat obumer, who is highly organized and has billions to burn.

Perry and Newt had the 10,000 signatures. But VA changed the rules and decided to throw out X% of all signatures. This percentage put Perry and Newt under the 10,000. VA used to review the signatures and confirm they were legit. But this year they decided to just throw out so many signatures without a review.They should have said they need 12,500 to qualify 10,000, but they did not.

Today here in Republican Georgia an inefficient and costly mechanism grinds into operation to root out any practicing professional who may be an alien, but is otherwise contributing to our welfare. Regardless, its more likely that citizen medical and legal professionals will get caught-up in the gears, depriving us of their services too for at least awhile. Considering that, crops rotting in the field, qualified voters being disenfranchised, the utter waste of Iraq, I am supposed to be concerned about Republicans complaining of being ill served by another of their own contrivances?

For all the imbeciles that may be reading this, please be aware that I am typing this really slow so you can read it slow.

These are the same politicians who speak glowingly of states rights, same politicians who vehemently opposes the existence of trial lawyers, same politicians who want the government to dictate what marriage is, same politicians who will arrest any judge that disagree with their doctrine.

They are now running to the court to get a rule established by a state on how to get on the ballot in that state. Are they saying we need a standard rule across the country that eliminate the need to gather X number of signatures to be on the ballot? Are they proposing that the Federal government be responsible for organizing all elections? Wait a minute, they hate the Federal government and don’t want it interfering in states affairs.

Newt Gingrich resides in Virginia, he knows the rules about getting on the ballot in Virginia, he chose to wait till the very last week to start the process of gathering signatures required to get on the ballot in Virginia. (I saw him on TV admitting that he forgot that he needed to follow that process.) He then fail to gather enough signature in one week to qualify to be on the ballot. For those who didn’t follow all these, that was the real story here.

Any idiot will know that you cannot be President of the United States if people cannot see your name on the ballot. It will behoove anyone seriously running for the office to get on the ballot in all 50 states, even the ones you don’t like. That is the very first thing a man or woman worthy of being elected President will do, Get on the darn ballot.

These crop of Republicans makes Barney Five look competent and they want the opportunity to run the most complex organization the world have ever seen. I am surprised that Rick Perry, a guy that just ran for re-election in Texas last year did NOT know that he need to get on the ballot in other states.

They are all focused on IOWA where the caucus system does not require a ballot hence no need to get on a ballot except for the real presidential election. These fools do not know the difference between a primary state and a caucus state.

Am I shocked, NO, we have lowered the bar for running for office to a point where Herman Cain can be considered a serious candidate. I am pretty sure Mr. Cain did not know about getting on the ballot either.

Why do people keep saying we are finished as a nation. This nation is resilient, and just because a few candidates don’t have sense enough to get on a ballot, especially Newt, our country will not end. Obama was a community organizer before he became a senator. He had lost races, before he won one, so he learned from his mistakes. Newt is from the priviledged class in our society, and many rules have been overlooked in his and his fellow candidates favor in the past, just by showing their faces, hearing their names. But this time, that won’t work, because the world is watching.

Isnt it interesting Cuccinelli is pushing the emergency change in the law in Virginia? He is the states attorney general and has the right to do what he is doing. So unless you have information pertaining to this change, the entire story is moot. More significant was the $277 million that RomnI cut from the state’s local education aid budget and the $130 million cut from higher education, moves that shifted at least part of the tax burden onto towns and counties. The state eventually took in about $1.3 billion more in capital gains taxes than had been expected. In addition, $500 million in unanticipated federal grants further reduced the predicted shortfall. Anyone who really cares about the gross disparities in state ballot requirements should go to www(dot)ballot-access(dot)org and look over their well-documented site. I certainly don’t agree with changing rules mid-stream, but the more important take home message is that these clowns want things changed NOW THAT IT HURTS THEM.

The republicans and democrats are responsible for EVERY law that restricts access to candidates nationwide. They are both completely to blame for the laws that serve to protect incumbents from competition, the two major parties from any serious competition from third parties, etc. Jimmy Carter works tirelessly in foreign countries to “insure” equitable elections but doesn’t give a damn about the inequities all over this country. The Federal Government signed the Copenhagen Accord many decades ago that was supposed to insure fair elections in every country that signed. Many of the state laws on ballot access blatantly violate that accord but the federal government doesn’t care because these laws help ensure their re-elections.

As an example, no 3rd party candidate has even been able to qualify for the ballot in Georgia since 1935! And that candidate was a Socialist Party candidate. I guess it hardly matters that the socialist party never was able to field another candidate as virtually every repubican and democrat running for congress from GA has been a socialist anyway, but you get the point. It is actually easier to get on the ballot in the former Soviet Union than it is in many US states.

Let these crybabies suffer their own consequences, but we should all work to demand serious change for ALL ballot access laws accross the nation. We are never going to get serious change from the democrats and the republicans, so making the option for a 3rd party viable may be our only way to avoid violent revolution by allowing peaceful revolution at the ballot box.
