Gingrich, Bachmann, Huntsman and Santorum join Perry in Virginia ballot challenge

Des Moines, Iowa – Newt Gingrich, Michele Bachmann, Jon Huntsman and Rick Santorum have allied themselves with Rick Perry in an effort to have their names placed on the Virginia presidential primary ballot.

Mitt Romney and Ron Paul were the only candidates to obtain the necessary — and vetted — 10,000 signatures.

Perry filed suit against the Virginia Republican primary and that state’s election board last week. Click here to read the letter from attorneys for the other four Republican candidates. It includes this:

Please be advised that the four Republican Candidates for President listed above will be filing a single, joint motion to intervene in the Virginia action.

In light of these developments, Congresswoman Bachmann, Speaker Gingrich, Governor Huntsman, and Senator Santorum respectfully request that the Board either take action to add them to the ballot mooting their challenges (and avoiding unnecessary costs and expenses to the state and the parties) or not undertake action until Judge Gibney has had an opportunity to hear from the parties on January 13, 2012.

Stefan Passantino, of the McKenna Long & Aldridge law firm in Atlanta, is representing Gingrich.

you don’t change the rules after the game has started !!! if romney and paul followed the rules, then everyone else should have to.

If they can not achieve 10,000 signatures to get on the ballot, why do they
feel they can win any delegates. It’s not feasible. Plus the candidates knew what
the regulations were before the VA cutoff point. A state has the right to set up
their own rules. It’s been that way for years.

It’s all academic for Bachman, Perry and Santorum. They will no longer be in the primary race come Super Tuesday.

As for Gingrich, if he can’t hire staff intelligent enough to fill out the correct paperwork for a primary ballot, how can he be trusted to appoint smart people to key government posts? Schmuck!

Why all the different rules that SEEMS only to interfear with 1’s rights to run in a national race…not a race for that state only. The candidates may be stupid as the dickens but we’ve had some pretty stupid [my personl thoughts] presidents before and after these rules were established.

It is amazing that those who claim to be against activist judges and against lpeople filing lawsuits, now have filed suit to get a judge to ignore rules that everybody else played by and asking him to make up new rules just for them. Hypocrisy personified!!

Rules!!! We don’t need no stupid rules!! First we get rid of the rules. Then we get rid of the whole voting system. Let’s just let the top 1% pick the president. We can just continue to bam boozle the rest of the folks. They believe anything they are told anyway.

If Obama can FAKE signature all across the state of Indiana and probably more, then they can allow the people of Virginia to have a broad spectrum of choice. The system is rigged to favor the encumbent – a law that needs updating for sure.

Katie, are you serious? This has nothing to do with a system favoring an incumbent, or a spectrum of choice. The candidates were instructed on how to get on the ballot and simply failed to follow the rules. Instead of doing so, they are trying to waste taxpayer money and jam up the courts to bend the rules to meet their needs. Responsible leadership exemplified? I think not.

ROFLMAO!!!!! I Luv it! I luv it!!!! Please, Please Virginia let Newtie onto the ballot! Have you forgotten rules are not for white Republicans. In their mind white priviledge is supposed to allow them to have and do whatever their little heart desires, as they have become accustomed to. Why do you think the right wing nuts are so mad about Obama being President and why they want “to take our nation back” as they love to say?

Kind of like that little Constitutional requirement that says you have to be a “natural born Citizen” to be eligible to run for President or Vice President? I guess African Americans running for the office do not have to follow the rules either due to privilege.

Crybabies. They knew the rules full well. The fact is that they have limited (if any) organization in VA, because they don’t have the money to fund staffing. So they focus on Iowa and NH and hope that they can scam some judge into giving them a pass on the state’s law for getting on ballot.

So much for the rule of law.

The rule of law went out the door when Gore tried to use the Florida courts to cherry pick democratic only districts for recounts in his attempt to steal the Presidency. The rule of law in elections was totally trashed when a non “Natural born citizen” was elected President without a mere sound from the defenders of the Constitution (SCOTUS and Congress).

@td. You are really showing your lack of intellect and/or bigotry. You really think a person can become President without being vetted thoroughly. His status a Natural Born Citizen has only been questioned by nutty people such as yourself. You need to be thankful that there is not a rule that requires a certain level of intellect to cast your vote or you would be disqualified.

Something the news media keeps saying must be going over a few heads, when they’ve said the candidates that didn’t get on the Virginia primary ballot are lacking: Real organization.

If you can’t get on a primary ballot I seriously doubt you have the necessary national organization behind you to beat obumer, who is highly organized and has billions to burn.

This has zero to do with Obama. If you want to make and Obama issue then you should have gotten the required signatures needed. It does not matter anyway Virginia will not change it. The backlash on going back will set a new precedence. That will have no winners. On a personal level I have a hard time voting for someone who can not take on such a simple task then blame the establishment that you are apart of it.

The rules must apply to all. If two of the candidates were able to obtain the required signatures the remaining ones must meet the same standards. As Bob Barr often stated, “we must follow the rule of law”. On the other hand, let’s change the rules to meet the needs of Newt. If this guy wins, America better watch out.

Perry and Newt had the 10,000 signatures. But VA changed the rules and decided to throw out X% of all signatures. This percentage put Perry and Newt under the 10,000. VA used to review the signatures and confirm they were legit. But this year they decided to just throw out so many signatures without a review. They should have said they need 12,500 to qualify 10,000, but they did not.
