Herman Cain won’t make an Iowa endorsement

If you remember your ancient Republican history – about four weeks ago – you’ll remember that Herman Cain, as he bowed out of the race, strongly hinted that he would make an endorsement in the presidential contest.

But we haven’t heard much from Cain since, and the plains of Iowa loom.

Several times during Cain’s final rough patch, Newt Gingrich spoke up for his Atlanta comrade-in-arms. Each cited a friendship that stretched back decades. They even staged that love fest in Houston for Texan tea partyists.

But also remember that Cain endorsed former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney in the 2008 campaign.

By way of straightening things out, my AJC colleague Jeremy Redmon shot an e-mail to Mark Block, who remains Cain’s chief of staff.

Replied Block:

There are no plans currently to endorse any of the candidates. Keep in touch.

You’re on your own, Newt.

Many politicians only endorse and jump on a bandwagon when they see a clear winner – it might get them an appointment if who they endorse wins. Wait too long, though – the potential cherry jobs have already been allocated to stronger loyalists.

Cain and Newt are long time friends, but both have been toast since the beginning. Too much personal baggage, too little money and organization. Still looks like Romney.

I wonder if there will be any more politicized predictions from this blogger about redistricting and ILLEGAL immigration legislation.

Meanwhile, Ron Paul gets endorsed by “renowned pastor, theologian, and prolific author Rev. Phillip G. Kayser, Ph.D.”

The Ron Paul campaign proudly touted this endorsement on their website…..until the internets started buzzing with the links showing that this “pastor” also openly advocates having homosexuals put to death.

The endorsement was then ’scrubbed’ from the Paul campaign’s website.

@ Double – Calling Obama the messiah because we had a technical accounting gimmick net petroleum export status is deception of the highest level. First, it includes REFINED oil which came from Canadian oil sands – not our actual production. Note that the Obama administration is resisting much greater use of the Canadian oil sands via the Keystone pipeline construction. Second, much of the increased U.S. oil and natural gas production is coming from the Bakken shale formation in North Dakota and Montana and the Eagle Ford one in Texas via fracking which the Obama administration is doing its best to inhibit. Third, the decreased U.S. demand from Obama’s recession has made a large difference. Finally, using actual statistics – the U.S. is importing a smaller share — 49% in 2010, down from 60% in 2005 — of the oil it uses. We are far from energy independent.

On the day before inauguration in 2009, “This the toughest foreign policy in-box that any president has faced in 55 years,” said Jessica Mathews, president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. “We are in a deep hole on a whole lot of issues where he’s going to have to climb out of before he can even start to achieve.”

Immediate crises such as the violence in Gaza, first-term priorities such as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, long-term endeavors such as the American relationship with China and Russia, and epochal concerns such as globalization and global warming.

ADD to this foreign policy morass, a national economy less than three months from near total calamity, that foundered for six months into this President’s term. He took heat for GM, for too much stimulus, for not enough stimulus and endured the constant underground racial banter.

The economy is still rocky and will be regardless of who is President because the failure of the banking system has not been repaired and that rests at the feet of Congress. Credit default swaps, collateralized debt obligations. Learn about these things first before you blame the President

Glad to see you are still with us. I prayed that the Lord would give you libs some sense over Christmas and turn you all away from the dark side of the force.

The approval rating is for all of Congress (both Republicans and Democrats) but when you poll district by district the majority of Americans state their Congressman is doing a great job. The House will stay in control of the Republicans (Even Pelosi knows it and is trying to find a way to retire). The Senate will go into Republican hands. It is still way to early to know if Obama will be re elected or not and Ron Paul will not run as a third party candidate because he wants is son (Senator Rand Paul) to have a chance to be President one day.

Ron Paul going to run as a libertarian if he lose the nonimee. The governor Johnson from New mexico is running as a libertarian which would split the votes. Donald Trump going to run as a independent candidate which will split the vote.

I am sorry but are not following your point about Israel. I will state this very clearly. The United States of America will never abandon Israel. As far as Ron Paul, he is a flake when it comes to foreign policy and will not get very far in the Republican nomination process.

Ron Paul and Gary Johnson can not both be on the ballot as the Libertarian candidate. Trump is not going to run for anything. If Ron Paul ran(he will not) then he would pull as many Dem votes from Obama as he would from the Republican nominee. A great deal of Paul supporters now are the same young college kids that supported and voted for Obama 3 years ago.

Do you not read my friend? There is only one house member in Georgia (both Dem and Republican) that may lose his job and he is a Democrat. The rest (both Dem and Republican) will win in landslides. Plus Georgia will send one additional Republican to Congress due to us getting a new member of the house in redistricting. It is the same throughout the rest of the nation be it in Democratic states or Republican states. Everyone hates Congress but they love their own congressman.

Would some of you more politically astute libs please tell Independent that this is the truth?

Herman Cain was not planning on being president. He just wanted people to know who he was. He had achieved all of that success and no one knew him. We did not know that he was the CEO of Godfathers Pizza, and that he was a motivational speaker. Now we know, and he is out of a race that he was not qualified for. It was painful to watch him try to answer the questions they were asking him on tv. He had to look up in the ceiling, move a bottle of water, look at his advisors, and cross his legs, before he could give any kind of answer. He is home with his wife with whom I know will never let him off the hook for having a 13 year relationship with a fellow Georgia woman.

Double,
Here is a good one for everyone. Georgia law has a 25-foot buffer on stream, 50-foot on trout stream, and 150-foot on all streams above drinking reservoirs.
Hall County and several others in the Piedmont region of Georgia have changed their codes to make it perennial streams on USGS quad sheet maps; but that is not what the law says.
Governor Deal is now obliterating thousands of acres of land for subdivision development; and even placing industrial [jobs] development in jeopardy.
What say thee?

That is a true statement but I think it goes a little deeper. I think the middle of the road people have shrunk to all time lows (probably no more than 20%) and now we have aligned ourselves at to dynamically opposed points of views. I am a conservative and think my Representative (Graves) is in Congress supporting the views I support. Now I am sure a Jon Lewis supporter would say that Graves is a horrible Congressman as I would say Lewis is not a good Representative.

As a result of our choices and our feeling of the other side, there are very few issues that Graves and Lewis can work together on and therefore we get nothing done in Congress. Neither side can compromise or there own voters will turn on them. Since nothing is getting done in Congress then both sides supporters say that Congress has a negative approval rating. I would bet if you had the pollsters dig into the reasons why voters do not approve of Congress as a whole then you would get about a 50/50 split with the left says Congress is not doing enough and the right saying they are doing to much.

I voted for the Gainesville dentist [Hawkins?] four times against Graves. Representative Graves spammed us all before his last two election runs with free Franking Privileged mail. Sent four pieces of the same drivel to my home with me and the misses formal and nickname’s, before the primary and six –including to people who had not lived at our address for ten years, for the runoff. Talk about abuse of the federal treasury…
Now in Hall we have got a talk show queen running and I hope the Chaplin wins, there is no use in even a Medal of Honor winner who would be a Democrat even trying to run in the new [old] ninth.

I was considering voting for Barr before he dropped out but the former Paulding commission chairman is not a viable option (since I helped vote him out of office). I usually vote for the non incumbent in the primary just to send a message. I live in a 80% Republican district and no Dem needs to and probably will not even consider running.
