CNN: Newt Gingrich, not wife, pressed for first divorce

Last month, on a campaign website, GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich said it was his first wife, Jackie Battley Gingrich, who asked for their divorce back in 1980.

But CNN reports that it has obtained previously – shall we say – protected documents from the Carroll County court system that indicate the separation was requested by Gingrich, then a Georgia congressman.

See the documentation here.

Not a good thing to come out a week before the Iowa caucuses, when one is trying to draw a comparison with a desperate Washington crossing the Delaware River.

From CNN:

The documents, and interviews with people close to the couple at the time, contradict the Gingrich claim about who wanted the divorce.

Newt Gingrich filed a divorce complaint on July 14, 1980, in Carroll County, saying that “the marriage of the parties is irretriebably (sic) broken.”

Jackie Battley Gingrich, the congressman’s wife and the mother of Jackie Gingrich Cushman, responded by asking the judge to reject her husband’s filing.

“Defendant shows that she has adequate and ample grounds for divorce, but that she does not desire one at this time,” her petition said.

“Although defendant does not admit that this marriage is irretrievably broken, defendant has been hopeful that an arrangement for temporary support of defendant and the two minor daughters of the parties could be mutually agreed upon without the intervention of this court,” her petition said. “All efforts to date have been unsuccessful.”

When CNN presented the information found in the divorce file to the Gingrich campaign, its spokesman stood by the contention that it was Gingrich’s ex-wife who asked for the divorce in 1980.

The truth is out there……the problem is that the media RARELY tells the truth!

As this post proves………..the biased lefty “reporters” spin everything negative about Republicans and spin almost everything positive about Democrats.

They refuse to even report negative topics about Democrats until the story gets too big and they absolutely must report a few facts just to save face.

Sad but true; anyone out there that claims my statements are false simply have there head in the sand OR they are borderline clueless………..the fact that the masses elected Obama essentially proves there are a bunch of people in this category.

And this means WHAT? A person contradicts something personal that was over 30 years ago and you self-righteous hypocrites on this blog call him a liar?! Who really cares what happens in someone’s divorce? Does it mean he can’t govern? NO! All we should care about right now is who can lead our country out this self-imposed mess. @GT Grad: Strawman argument. In fact, the media is probably too timid in confronting politicians. Did Newt say that his wife asked for the divorce? Yes. Do the court records show that he asked for the divorce? Yes. A blatant contradiction to what Newt said. Now how is it that the media is to blame for this. Newt is a liar, a draft-dodging, yellow-bellied chickenhawk, serial adulterer plain and simple.

President Obama is trying to help the 99% of us who aren’t wealthy, but because the Republicans are extremely wealthy, greedy, selfish, etc., they don’t want the American Public to have a dime out of their dollars. How sad. Follow the Tea Party people if you want & put a Republican back in office, it will be a million times worst because they will continue where Bush Jr. left off at. President Obama is trying his best, but if Congress has to vote on his solutions to help US, Republican controlled Congress will not let his ideas go through. One thing I can say he tried his best & he’s got my vote in 2012. Where is Osama Bin Laden, Suddam Hussein, Khadhafi, our Soldiers that were in Iraq that are now home with their families. Once again, Republican/conservative/libertarian/independent voters are allowing the Democrat Party, the left-leaning media and the Republican establishment to select the GOP candidate for POTUS. It appears that we learned nothing from the elections in 2008 and 2010. By nominating the “maverick”, moderate, next-in-line John McCain they assured the election of the worst President in 100 years. By allowing the forces listed above to destroy conservative candidates and nominate Mitt Romney, we’ll likely see a repeat of 2008 with man Republican voters staying home or not voting and the re-election of the worst President in 100 years. If so we deserve what we will get – the rate of the slide toward socialism will be accelerated with Obama care and bigger, more oppressive government.

Except……Ole Newt, not the news media, is the one that brought up the false claim that his former wife, not him, filed for divorce!

Now that the news media looked into his claim and found it to be false, it is “let’s blame the media” time. Ole Newt and the pizza salesman who quit his campaign are “two peas in a pod”. Both get caught acting in an immoral manner and it’s the media’s fault!!

I wish, just once, when a politicaian starts to lecture a member of the media about what is, or is not, a significant issue to the American public, the interviewer would respond, “I am conducting the interview, not you. I get to decide the questions – if you don’t want to answer them, fine. If the public doesn’t think my questions are legimate, fine. You may be right BUT you don’t get to ask and answer only the questions you think are important. If you want to ask the questions, join the media. If not, either answer my question or decline and let’s move on”.

Let’s face it people. The choices we have for president is not between who is morally perfect and who is not. It is between who can best lead this country by building coalitions and uniify this country leading it out of the financial mess we now endure. Raising taxes will not cut it! There needs to be personal responsibility at every level. We need to live within our means. Fortunatley for him, the state legislature decided to gerrymander the district and gave him Cobb county. At the time, Cobb was a haven for wealthy, newly arrived to the South, northern Republicans. One of the things that upsets me the most about the CNN article however, is the fact, that the Carroll County Clerk of Court “hid” the divorce papers in a desk. Somehow I don’t think he was protecting Jackie when he did that. It also makes me wonder how many other legal papers are shoved under the rug in Carroll County. The good ole boy system strikes again!

Not voting for Newt, but he would be heralded for his serial adultery as a Democrat (see Clinton, every Kennedy, Dodd et al). Hillary almost became President for standing by her man. And articles like this do serve the purpose of further highlighting the complete lack of curiosity in the media regarding Obama before he was elected.

Until he publicly stated she ashed HIM for the divorce. Not relevant at all unless you were expecting a candidate for president to have at least a hair of honesty.

@NewtBeGone..I applaud you for speaking the truth. To all the other President Obama haters remember your Mother’s Golden Rule…”Tis better to keep your ignorant opinions to yourself; than print them and prove to all the world you are a bigoted moron. I remember Newt being in the forefront of the posse, as a Democrat, trying to lynch President Clinton regarding the Monica Lewinski debacle. He switched parties to obtain the accolades he’d gotten for being the Benedict Arnold that he is and his party supports. He then ran for congress representing the Retardican Party. He diviorced his wife shortly thereafter; to marry his mistress. Of course the Retardican Party never addressed this issue. For him to stand on a platform of Morality proves how decietful the party he represents really is. All of us fall short of the Glory of God; thus be careful of whom you judge, lest you’ll be judged by the same standards.

Newt Gingrich has predicted for several weeks that he’d regain momentum in Iowa in the last week before the caucuses, with a bus tour taking him to numerous cities around the state.

The problem is, the bus tour seems to keep losing stops. Here’s The New York Times on Dec. 19:

Returning to Iowa, where the latest polls show his campaign suddenly slipping, Newt Gingrich lamented what he called a barrage of negative ads aimed at him and promised a 44-stop “jobs and prosperity” tour before the voting on Jan. 3 to fight back.

Jonathan reported Friday:

Newt Gingrich is planning to turn to a sharp “jobs and growth” message both on the airwaves and in over 30 appearances next week in the final run-up to the Iowa caucuses, according to campaign officials.

And here’s the Des Moines Register today:

The “Iowa Jobs and Prosperity Bus Tour” will make 22 stops between now and the Jan. 3 caucuses. That’s exactly half of the 44 he said he would make last week when announcing the tour during a stop in Davenport. …

[Gingrich spokesman R.C.] Hammond on Nov. 14 told The Register that Gingrich planned to spend about 30 days in Iowa between then and Jan. 3. He has spent 11 so far. He will spend eight more between today and Jan. 3 for a total of 19.

Both parties are comprised of liers, hypocrites and thugs. They steal our hard-earned money by calling it a “tax”, then waste it on things like unnecessary wars, installing dictators in foreign countries, and putting our military in harm’s way; not to mention funding over-regulators and over-paid paper-pushers who constitute much of the government workforce. Then, senators and congress representatives authorize their own pay raises and better benefits packages for themselves. Besides using it for unneeded federal agencies like the department of education – which does nothing to improve local schools or bring about improved education; rather the Dept. of Education simply institutionalizes nationwide testing which has nothing to do with learning, but just “teaching to tests”. And, like many other government agencies, it implements social engineering programs designed to make businesses, individuals and society as a whole confirm to its bidding.

Take a look, folks. The two-party system is a sham. Which is why, though he has his faults, I find them less intrusive than those of all other candidates and I find his missteps are far outweighed by his positive ideas — i.e., Ron Paul.

Newt will fade almost as quickly as Cain once his hypocrisy catches up with him. (Really, it already has.) Can’t wait to watch all the Christian conservatives wrestle with the Romney/Mormon issue. Many of them do consider it a cult after all. Which makes the timing of the “I’m a Mormon” advertising campaign we’re seeing plastered everywhere so transparent. What it’s really saying is “Mitt is a Mormon and look how interesting, diverse and attractive all his peeps are.”

When G.W. Bush pushed for the invasion of Iraq–a country that had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11–he and his helpers decided not to show the costs of that war in the US budget. Remember Cheney saying something about, “this war will pay for itself?”

Well, Bush & all succeeded in stealing the Iraqi’s oil for themselves and their international oil partners (including the House of Saud–and it was a member of the House of Saud, Bin Laden, who was behind 9/11.) The Iraq war did not “pay for itself”–it ran up a tremendous debt that was not shown on the books.

When Obama took office, he said that the debt should be shown on our account books, and now it is. So that’s what the Republicans means when they say that Obama tripled our national debt.

No, he didn’t. Obama just revealed to the American public the debt that was already there and put there by the Bush people.

Hey WHmS, If you had a daughter that was married to a loser like Newt, would you tell her to stay married and keep her mouth shut or would you tell her to move on? Unlike you, morals are important. If you can’t lead in your own home, what makes you think you can lead a nation?

Wouldn’t it be beneficially to the American citizenry if people who worked for news organizations showed even a fraction of the interest in, say, ObamaCare, Dodd-Frank, etc. as they do in Newt’s first divorce, his shopping proclivities, etc.?

But–it’ll never happen. No wonder folks distrust the media.

It’s customary not to ask for/agree to a divorce if financial matters aren’t settled. His wife was looking for child support and alimony. Not petitioning was her way of sticking it to the man.

The assumption here is that Newt wanted the divorce because he filed. I guess that means that 80% of all women in today’s society wants the divorce since they are the ones that file?

BTW: I wonder how many people knew that Newts first wife was also his teacher in HS and that they started dating then? In today’s society, with today’s laws she would have been prosecuted.
