Your morning jolt: Give Herman Cain a Bible, and he’ll swear it’s not true

As the rest of the political world pondered the news of his alleged 13-year relationship with an now-unemployed businesswoman, Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain was defending himself at a D.C. fundraiser. From The Daily Caller:

Washington, D.C. attorney Mary Brett, who attended the event, [said] Cain swore to supporters that if he had a Bible, he’d put his hand on it and vow that the allegations are false.

“He said you’re probably going to hear — if you didn’t before you got here — another allegation about a 13-year affair and it’s absolutely not true,” Brett, who lives in Reston, recalled as she left the Hilton hotel where the event was held.

Late last night, Ginger White, the woman who said she had an off-and-on, consensual affair with Cain, told Channel 2 Action News that the candidate’s denial doesn’t surprise her.

“I can’t imagine him actually confirming. It’s the name of the game, I guess,” she said. See it here:

Don’t forget that Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum will appear in a GOP public forum at noon in Gwinnett County today. The locale is the Gwinnett Place Marriott, and is organized by the 7th District Republican party. Newt Gingrich appeared at a similar forum earlier this month.

***
Gallup is out with a new poll still showing President Barack Obama’s approval rating stuck at a dangerous 43 percent. Perhaps more worrisome is this paragraph:

Obama’s approval rating has decreased among all six partisan/ideology groups Gallup tracks on a regular basis since January, but it has dropped the most — 10 percentage points, from 40% to 30% — among pure independents. These are the roughly 14% of national adults who neither identify with one of the two major parties nor indicate a leaning. Obama’s approval rating has declined by nearly as much — eight points — among moderate/liberal Republicans, from 29% to 21%.

For the second day in a row, the Democratic National Committee this morning has hit Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney with an Internet video – this one on a New Hampshire TV ad that the Romney campaign was forced to abort:

***
In South Carolina, Newt Gingrich waded again into the murky topic of illegal immigration on Monday. And the Augusta Chronicle has a poll that gives the former U.S. House speaker a leading 38 percent share of the Republican vote in that early state.

Whereupon the AJC’s Politifact Georgia has taken on this accusation from rival Michele Bachmann: “[Gingrich] has said that we should make the 11 million illegal workers that are in this country legal.”

***
Also in South Carolina, Gov. Nikki Haley repeated Monday that she was not behind a decision by a state board to issue a permit to allow the expansion of a Georgia port, and said she has received no political favors as a result of the permit. From The State newspaper:

“I know people like to think there’s something behind everything. But there’s nothing here,” Haley said during a press conference.

The South Carolina governor said her own state was partly to blame for the decision:

“What I meant is (South Carolina) just sat there. We didn’t do anything,” she said, describing the state’s minimal efforts to secure money for the dredging of Charleston’s port over the past several years.

A Georgia fundraiser, organized by Atlanta GOP heavyweight Eric Tanenblatt and held 13 days before that board authorized the Savannah dredging, brought $15,000 in contributions her re-election campaign. Haley said the fundraiser was planned weeks before the port decision.

You misread my comment. I am saying that there are a great deal of people on these blogs stating as fact that Cain is a serial predator preying on women without any evidence besides the statements of the alleged victims. Without one having there day in a court of law, where there is rules of evidence, and people are put under oath with penalties set for not telling the truth, then all you can look at is the character of the alleged victims. All of these alleged victims have in my opinion very limited credibility due to bad financial situations and other issues in the legal system.

If they want to take their cases to a court of law then we shall see but unless or until that happens Cain is more creditable at this time and I do not believe the accusations. Now there was an article (that Jim conveniently has not posted) a week or so ago from his secretary while he was at the national restaurant association. She stated Cain was a flirt and could see how some women could take what he said out of context but she said he never did anything that could be considered harassment. I guess this woman does not fit the narrative this paper wants to portray for Cain.

We do not know if there are any because the press gave him a total pass when he ran because they did not want to be called racist. The Washington Post and NY times are asking for help to dig up dirt on Newt and other Republicans but 4 years ago would not even look at the basics about Obamas background.

It’s more than obvious that the liberal media has done the ultimate hatchet job on a qualified black conservative presidential candidate, pure and simple. While I love Speaker Gingrich, I know in my heart that Herman Cain deserves the presidency outright for his bold experience, real leadership, a dedication to Christ, free markets, no/low taxe$ and a pro-business attitude.

C’mon, it’s not a surprise that Hussein Obama is a bigger disaster than Jimmah Carter. As well know, any one of the rightful Republican candidates will be better than what we have been dealing with these three very long years. ‘Lil Hussein is the worst thing that this once-free nation has ever, ever seen. I cannot wait until “he” boards that helicopter out of town in January 2013.

Amen,
Bill

If Mr. Cain really is innocent of the accusations leveled by these various women he needs to clearly and unambiguously say so, and cut out the weasel worded denials.

OTOH if he really does have these skeletons in his closet and he still decided to run for President of the United States that would make him the biggest fool in the history of our nation.

Sorry, td. A flirt that says things that women may take out of context is not presidential material. It may have been somewhat acceptable at a time when news crawled from a ticker, but not now.

First: I have never said I was going to vote for Cain.

Second: If your statement is true then why did Clinton get elected?

I am on here defending Cain because he has good ideas and deserves the right to run without the character assassination that is going on from the press.

Td – You said it again. All of these alleged victims have in my opinion very limited credibility due to bad financial situations and other issues in the legal system. Cain is more creditable at this time.

I did not misread or misunderstand. How is Cain more creditable? If you want to use financial situations , don’t forget he has had some unpaid taxes, campaign shortages, bankrupt business. Are you saying that because he is a supposed millionaire he can’t be unfaithful to his marriage? What about his legal issues of the settlements?

Some people can’t see the forest for the trees.

TD – All of these alleged victims have in my opinion very limited credibility due to bad financial situations

Seems to me Herman Cain has a penance for picking out people with ” questionable financial situations” – about Herman Cain’s chief of staff, Mark Block: “Records show Block has faced foreclosure on his home, a tax warrant by the Internal Revenue Service and a lawsuit for an unpaid bill. He also acknowledges he was arrested twice for drunken driving.” The story also mentions that after dropping out of politics, Block went broke and was forced to stock shelves at Target.
