Herman Cain ‘reassessing’ his presidential bid

We’re getting slightly mixed message from Herman Cain’s campaign staff on whether the candidate intends to remain in the Republican presidential hunt. From the Associated Press in Atlanta:

Herman Cain’s Iowa campaign chairman [says] that the candidate is reassessing his presidential campaign a day after an Atlanta businesswoman alleged a 13-year extramarital affair with the Republican.

Steve Grubbs says that on a conference call with senior staff early Tuesday, Cain said the allegations have taken an emotional toll on his family but that he’s moving ahead with the campaign.

Still, Grubbs said Cain told his staff he would be reassessing how to move forward given that the allegations have damaged his fundraising.

The Iowa chairman said Cain still planned to deliver a foreign policy speech in Michigan later Tuesday.

On the other hand, Daniel Malloy, the AJC’s man in Washington, just got off the phone with Cain spokesman J.D. Gordon, who sent this note:

Gordon acknowledged that Cain in a staff call this morning used the word “reassess” about the campaign, but said it was not about whether or not he was going to drop out. Similar reassessments took place after the Iowa straw poll and at one point when the campaign was low on money, he said.

“My interpretation of that is that we are looking to assess where we are at today and where we need to be moving into the primary,” Gordon said.

The campaign will rethink what states Cain visits, the types of speeches he gives and what interviews he conducts.

National Review Online was listening in on the five-minute conference call, and has already produced a transcript.

Earlier this morning, Atlanta radio talk show host Neal Boortz, for whom Cain often subbed on AM750 and 95.5FM News/Talk WSB, said that it might be time for Cain to leave the race.

Boortz was touted on Monday as a VIP who would be attending the Saturday opening of Cain’s new Georgia headquarters in DeKalb County.

Would you think that the American people could have an Intelligent conversation about the leadership abilities of candidates and the issues facing our great nation??? Would you think the discussions could be held without name calling, character assination, accusations, lying and cheating? Would you think the American people could find a person of leadership and with plans to bring this country together? Would you think it could be done with race baiting, and class warfare? Come Americans put forth some positive effort!

Does anyone vote for anyone anymore. Most voters vote against someone this is considering both parties. To claim any party has the moral high ground is to ignore the state of our nation. A song years ago was called the “NAME GAME” now both parties sing the “BLAME GAME’. When will we get a rational candidate like Daffy Duck.

All this love and support for Obama because every liberal is scared of an alternative voice!
+++++

Why do Repubs always resort to saying that pointing out the obvious about one of their own means they are afraid of them? People said that about Sarah Palin. No one was afraid of her. People couldn’t believe that the Repubs actually thought she was ready to get that 3 a.m. call and know what to do. There could be serious candidates that the Dems would be concerned about, but your side either won’t support them or they won’t run.

Ruthless,

If you analogy reflected what the President has done, you would be right.

But what needs to change is the whiny back-bench baggers in Congress that have resisted any sort of change (and any sort of reasonable behavior) for over 1/3 of the time in question.

Really, I thought this article was about Herman Cain and his inability to keep it in his pants…..I am a proud DEMOCRAT and I am the first to say that President Obama has disappointed me in some of his actions, but I support him fully as POTUS, but let’s not forget the uphill climb that the REPUBLICANS puts this country in….PLEASE STOP WITH THE NONSENSE THAT PRESIDENT OBAMA IS NOT A CITIZEN….BUSH was a friend of terrorist, so was his daddy, and being a muslim does in no way make you a bad person. Please stop the nonsense when you get on here and become internet political gangsters. This race should be about the best candidate, whether it be Dem or REP. I am also an African American so the race card is not in play here, let’s stop the madness and address the issues as to why this country is failing. Support the President because HE IS PRESIDENT regardless of his race….no one say you have to agree with everything but you should support the him, maybe then the country will rise.

@Carol…

Our point is the guy you obviously support isnt getting the job done. You as well as many other liberals are focused on the precarious backgrounds of the GOP while Obama had a very questionable background. My point is simply this…..Obama isnt getting the job done and he is the only Democratic Candidate for the presidency of the U.S. Because of that I have to look at all other alternatives since I dont feel he has done a good enough job as the president. Since the only other options are most likely one of the GOP candidates I think their voice should be heard and given a chance. If they take office and suck as bad as Obama has the past 3 years then gues what??? We as a republic and democratic society get to voice that opinion in 2016. We could vote in someone else.

Dawg ‘88 – when or why do you think President Obama believes in abortion? He has made it very clear of his stands on it. What I heard him say is “I don’t believe it right but it is an individual choice”. Question for you is do you believe in Adultery? If you read the Bible at all, GOD has a problem with it. Has President Obama committed Adultery or paid for some women to have one?
Facts we know – Newt has committed Adultery twice in his previous two marriages. He is in his third and the only reason he probably hasn’t cheated is he too old.

First, the T-party love affair was with Mitt, then, Bush 2.0, then, Cain, now Newt(hazzard county’s finest). Maybe the issue isn’t with liberals, the issue might be with the republicans. I’m a registered independent because I see flaws in a 2-party system. I supported President Obama in ‘08 and I will support him in ‘12. Being the HR Profession, I do see a steady increase in new hires and will continue in 2012. Both parties have to give something up to change the economy, dems will have to cut spending and republicans will have to stop protecting the rich and wealthy. Terms in which both sides are angry and upset, that’s when you are on the right track. Herman Cain destroyed himself, no one else did it. Just like when I hire individuals, everyone is great until we run that background check/drug test. Then comes every excuse in the book.

I will say thing, Michelle Obama is a CLASS ACT, she did not deserve to get treated that we that she did at the nascar event. I thought/still think bush was the worst president ever, no African-Americans ever showed disrespect to Mrs. Bush. We didn’t like her husband and his political views.

Remember 2000-2008, bush bailed out the Banks with Tarp, now reading that almost $8Billion was giving to the banks in secret. 2 Failed wars with thousands of Americans lost their lives and tens of thousands injuried for Nothing, “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED”, bush could not get Osama, BlackWater, Katrina, WallStreet, Housing Market, Rich Tax Cuts when he inheritated surplus from Clinton………I will stop there. This country was destroyed under Bush, 8 years of bush/it. If you gonna be made at someone, be mad at your own party, they caused it

…this is what you get in your field of candidates. Best of luck.

The President has succeeded in preventing the disaster he was presented from worsening. Attempts to correct the mess have been met by kicking and screaming from the ‘conservative children’ in the Congress who sat politely by as the disaster was being enacted.
Without the Stimulus, unemployment would likely be 11%. And by the way, what plan does anyone riding in the repug Clown Car to each of the bogus ‘debates’ have in mind for correcting unemployment?

Without elimination of the spending attached to the offshore military adventurism and a return to sane taxation, you are not likely to see any improvement.

Newt Gingrich is possibly the smartest candidate on either side (Ron Paul, Jon Huntsman, and Obama offer real challenges to that), but he’s far from the BEST candidate.

“President Obama’s slow ride down Gallup’s daily presidential job approval index has finally passed below Jimmy Carter, earning Obama the worst job approval rating of any president at this stage of his term in modern political history.

Since March, Obama’s job approval rating has hovered above Carter’s, considered among the 20th century’s worst presidents, but today Obama’s punctured Carter’s dismal job approval line. On their comparison chart, Gallup put Obama’s job approval rating at 43 percent compared to Carter’s 51 percent.”

According to Gallup, here are the job approval numbers for other presidents at this stage of their terms, a year before the re-election campaign:

– Harry S. Truman: 54 percent.

– Dwight Eisenhower: 78 percent.

– Lyndon B. Johnson: 44 percent.

– Richard M. Nixon: 50 percent.

– Ronald Reagan: 54 percent.

– George H.W. Bush: 52 percent.

– Bill Clinton: 51 percent.

The current polarized Congress exist as an inept body in no small part because of the rules laws and efforts of Newt when he was Speaker–building, of course, on the judge-and-hate-thy-neighbor discourse of the religious right. The GOP held both houses of Congress and the White House for SEVEN long years and never passed any ban on abortion–THAT would have removed the incentive for the one-issue “value” voters to go to the polls and vote contrary to their own best economic interest and the best interest of this nation and its majority. There are few “moderates” in either party because of the judgmental nature of those who fight against individual liberty when it doesn’t meet their personal standard.

Well, then what the hell are we paying you for?” Christie said in Camden, N.J. ” ‘It’s doomed for failure, so I’m not getting involved’? Well, what have you been doing, exactly?”

Now that is telling the truth.
