Herman Cain ‘reassessing’ his presidential bid

We’re getting slightly mixed message from Herman Cain’s campaign staff on whether the candidate intends to remain in the Republican presidential hunt. From the Associated Press in Atlanta:

Herman Cain’s Iowa campaign chairman [says] that the candidate is reassessing his presidential campaign a day after an Atlanta businesswoman alleged a 13-year extramarital affair with the Republican.

Steve Grubbs says that on a conference call with senior staff early Tuesday, Cain said the allegations have taken an emotional toll on his family but that he’s moving ahead with the campaign.

Still, Grubbs said Cain told his staff he would be reassessing how to move forward given that the allegations have damaged his fundraising.

The Iowa chairman said Cain still planned to deliver a foreign policy speech in Michigan later Tuesday.

On the other hand, Daniel Malloy, the AJC’s man in Washington, just got off the phone with Cain spokesman J.D. Gordon, who sent this note:

Gordon acknowledged that Cain in a staff call this morning used the word “reassess” about the campaign, but said it was not about whether or not he was going to drop out. Similar reassessments took place after the Iowa straw poll and at one point when the campaign was low on money, he said.

“My interpretation of that is that we are looking to assess where we are at today and where we need to be moving into the primary,” Gordon said.

The campaign will rethink what states Cain visits, the types of speeches he gives and what interviews he conducts.

National Review Online was listening in on the five-minute conference call, and has already produced a transcript.

Earlier this morning, Atlanta radio talk show host Neal Boortz, for whom Cain often subbed on AM750 and 95.5FM News/Talk WSB, said that it might be time for Cain to leave the race.

Boortz was touted on Monday as a VIP who would be attending the Saturday opening of Cain’s new Georgia headquarters in DeKalb County.

Why on earth did he run if he had all of this in his back ground? He knew it would come out. I liked Cain; but, now I wonder if he never thought he would make it this far and was just entering the fray to sell books and he ended up a front runner by mistake?

Cain was a playa!! Men in power can’t handle the power. The list of those who abuse their power is too long to list here. Boortz and the tea party convinced this guy to run and he fell for it. Does he have to give the Koch Bros any of their money back?? Oh well, if women couldn’t vote for Cain I know they can’t be possibly thinking about voting for Newt…can they??

@sam, I hope that Newt does well. He is head and shoulders above the other GOP candidates as far as smarts and the ability to debate issues. He would easily outdistance anyone in a public forum. Of course, your Community Organizer (Obozo) would be reduced to a fetal position after 30 minutes of a discussion about anything regarding presidential policies. The media just lobs softball questions at Obama and Newt would address the issues head on. That way, Obama would have no place to hide, no teleprompter to read from and actually have to explain how the disaster that is his presidency is the “change” all of the idiots that voted for him wanted.

sam…typical garbage from a liberal.

What more do you have to say about your “savior” Obama about his intellect when he supports the right to kill the unborn. He supports partial birth abortion and defends the right to do a saline abortion as well.

One crushes the baby’s skull and sucks out the brain. The other injects saline in the baby and it burns the baby inside out. What competent, intelligent person would support such a thing. Not to mention that the babies are then torn apart limb by limb. He supports this because of a thirst for power…Planned Parenthood and abortion (death) advocates contribute more than anyone to his campaign.

Don’t believe all above or support it yourself….what would God say?
Oh forgot…liberals believe God is a delusion and those who have faith are fools. Sad….liberals generally hate everything that is good and decent just to support immoral behaviors and elicit power.

The delusion is that Obama has done anything to help America. I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t defend the rights of the most vulnerable Americans….the unborn. Liberals and Obama trust in their own powers….I Trust In The Lord!

Sad….Cain and Gingrich support the most vulnerable and have strong faith. The fact that false allegations and unjust commentary about their intelligence seems to be more important than getting the right man in the White House.

Go ahead and keep supporting the Abortion President and disrespecting honorable men who are willing to protect Americans in their most vulnerable moments of life….God is only played for a fool for so long.

Barack Obama….The Abortion President and Defender of Immoral truths…

Wake up, voters. Ron Paul is the only candidate who speaks the truth and is ready to make the hard-nosed cutbacks that will put this country back on track again. His main fault has nothing to do with these idiotic ethical missteps of the other candidates and unkept promises they have made to their constituents over the years. Nope, Ron Paul’s main fault is that he isn’t cute, he isn’t a pretty boy. And he isn’t a pompous intellectual, either. He’s an honest, non-partisan, what you see is what you get guy: highly principled, studied, a big-picture thinker who understands the U.S. role in the world, recognizes cause and effect expenditure relationships and that decisions have consequences. Yet he is roundly ignored by the media. Reporters and anchors readily rattle off the “Republican candidates” yet somehow Ron Paul’s name doesn’t get on their scripts. Perhaps he is too smart for the average American.

Dawg88, I feel your passion about the abortion issue. But, you can’t paint all libs with broad strokes like you have. Many people are vehemently oppossed to abortion and are libs. But you can not believe in your heart of hearts that newt supports the most vulnerable when he left his wife while she was suffering the most and needed his support. And I know you can’t believe cain was being the supportive husband while having a 13 year affair. They are flawed men who happen to be running for president. Their character is being called into question, not their intellect. And as far as president Obama being a “saviour” the only people I have heard say that was Hannity and now you.
I for one

Get a life. We are NOT electing a Pastor, we are electing a President. I feel sorry for the Repugs who keep bringing up abortion as the be all end all for their choice. Think about it, There have been several Repub presidents since Roe v Wade including your beloved Ronald Reagan. Why didn’t ANY OF THEM try to have it overturned during their presidency? Because they know that they can keep people like you on the hook forever with this ONE wedge issue. If they reverse it they will NEVER have a better trump card in the future.

Whatever anyone does in this regard is between them and their God just like any sin. Taking a hard stance on this issue while giving a pass on adultery, lying or any other sin doesn’t make Repubs better than anyone. It just means they pick and choose which sins THEY think are less egregious to God.

If you guys insist on bringing up Roe vs. Wade, guess what? Ron Paul is blatantly against abortion — and he is an OB/GYN — yet he has vehemently stated that he would NOT try to overturn that ruling that gave women freedom of choice. Rather, he would leave it up to the states. He is a realist, in other words; and has found the perfect compromise on the issue.

If I were Barack Obama I would be very concerned about Cain’s predicament. No matter the validity of the Cain attacks it just sets the stage for a brutal campaign against Obama, his ethnicity notwithstanding. There will be no kid gloves treatment of Obama because he is black. Katie bar the door as GOP opponents take him to the woodshed.
