Rick Perry loses a Georgia supporter, and Newt Gingrich gains one

Throughout the summer, former state senator John Douglas of Social Circle – he ran for state Public Service Commission in 2010 — may have been Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s most ardent supporter in Georgia. Where two or more Republicans gathered, Douglas was there with bumper stickers and a petition urging Perry into the race.

But no more. Douglas posted the following on the Rockdale County Republican party’s Facebook page:

“After very careful consideration and lengthy discussions with many key supporters, I am leaving the Perry camp, effective immediately. I no longer see a path to victory for him and have had great difficulties dealing with his staff.

“I still like many of his policies and would have no problem voting for him if he is our nominee. Now I am endorsing Newt Gingrich for President and will spend time in the near future explaining that move. Suffice it to say tonight that Newt champions the culture war I believe in fighting and he is a brilliant, very well-spoken man. I am pleased to endorse him for President.”

Glad to see Douglas onboard with Newt, we’re pushing hard to get out the word: “We need understanding, we need experience, we need leadership. Now. Out with the old, in with the Newt! Gingrich 2012.”

Maybe this was it?
“…A Perry quote from a 2001 border summit taken from the Texas Office of the Governor Website: “President Fox’s vision for an open border is a vision I embrace, as long as we demonstrate the will to address the obstacles to it. An open border means poverty has given way to opportunity and Mexico’s citizens do not feel compelled to cross the border to find that opportunity” said Perry. (In the same speech, Perry advanced a bi-national healthcare -’PerryCare?’- plan for residents on both sides of the Texas/Mexico border).
A one-time slip of good “sovereignty/security sense?” No. According to the Associated Press, in 2007, while he was in Mexico City for a trade mission, Perry said he would support a “free flow of individuals between these two countries who want to work and want to be an asset to our country and to Mexico…”

Rick Perry to CNN’s John King November 4, 2011

On amnesty, Perry said:

…you have to identify [all the illegal aliens in the U.S.], you have to be able to give them some type of identification. Here’s how they pay their taxes and they become a contributing part of the society instead of, as some people see them, just as a leech on society. That you can put a program into place of what these individuals can be identified and work visas and where they can move back and forth between countries, but not become United States citizens…

Gingrich won’t beat Obama because he’s another fat white guy. The media would love Gingrich to get the nomination because he an unkempt suburbanite fat white dude who would lose by 30 points to Obama. Fat white dudes are a dime a dozen in this state. He doesn’t look presidential. He looks like a high-school principal or a manager at Golden Corral. I think he is smart, but Herman Cain or Romney are the only reasonable choices.

Just how much political muscle do you dumb democrats think Newt used to land consulting contracts with the Democrat dominated lending groups, Freddie and Fannie? They hired him because they recognized he knows his shizzle. Should he have worked for free? It will also be rich hearing the suddenly moral left preaching the virtues of family during the 2012 election. Honestly, if womanizing is going to be a central theme among Dems in the election, then I feel pretty confident about the Right’s ability to attract Independent voters who didn’t give a hoot when Slick Willy was running. The Democrats are going to need to drum up much more than that if they intend to continue running the country in to the ground financially after 2012.

Ted Nugent, rock star and avid bow hunter from Michigan , was being interviewed by a liberal journalist, an animal rights activist. The discussion came around to deer hunting. The journalist asked, ‘What do you think is the last thought in the head of a deer before you shoot him? Is it, ‘Are you my friend?’ or is it ‘Are you the one who killed my brother?

Nugent replied, ‘Deer aren’t capable of that kind of thinking. All they care about is, what am I going to eat next, who am I going to screw next, and can I run fast enough to get away. They are very much like the Democrats in Congress.’

On amnesty, Perry said:

…you have to identify [all the illegal aliens in the U.S.], you have to be able to give them some type of identification.

Identify Hell!!!!! Put out a notice in every newspaper, every TV Network and on every radio station, plus flyers in every neighborhood where illegals are known to live that says the following:

If you are in this country (USA) Illegally, you have six (6) months from todays date to get out. You may take your family, all your possessions, money, vehicle (if you have a title to that vehicle) and anything else you own. On the 181st day after the notice you are caught in the USA and are here illegally, you will be taken to the nearest deportation point to await transportation back to your native country. You do not have any rights to anything……you will not be allowed a telephone call. All of your possessions will be taken, including any vehicle you are caught with. The only thing you will be left with are the clothes on your body.

I guarantee you, all roads to exit points in Ca, Nv, Az, Tx. and any other state with an exit point will be clogged with illegals leaving. The exit points will be clogged for months, giving some resourseful people an opportunity to make a lot of money in a short time. Bathrooms, living quarters, restaurants, etc. will be in high demand. This is the only way to do it. There will be plenty of jobs for all those 20 Million unemployed “Americans”.

In addition, all those service men and women coming back from Iraq and Afganistan should be stationed alony our southern border with Mexico to stop any illegal from coming back into this country.

If you see one who would go from the Progressive Democratic Party to the backward Republican Party you know theyare backward. Did anyone see him at the Debate. He wants to fire tens of thousands of federal employees in the middle of the worse Depression since 1929. Did anyone ask Perry where would these people work if they are fired by him. Anytime anyone says close Energy, Education and Commerce which handles the Census Bureau which is mandated by the United States of Amerika’ Constitution (the Law of Land) you know the guy is crackers. He can not get rid of the Census without changing the United States of Anerika’s Constituin and we (the Democrats) will battle the turncoat every steo of the way. Never trust a Traitor, a Benedict Arnold, a Backstabber, a liar, and A Quisling. A person can collect money as a oyal Democrat and then steal the money and then run as a Republican. If I give my money to a person in the Democrat Party and then they backstab me and runs as a carpetbagging/scalawaging Republican he better give all my money back or I will sue him and file a formal complaint with the Election Commissioner. There is a fight within the Republican party. The establishment (country club) Republicans want a business as usual person (Romney) and the conservative side (led by the Tea Party) wants a true conservative. This is no different then 4 years ago in the Democratic party with Clinton and Obama (I think that race went almost to the convention). We have seen that a President can not pass anything without the approval of the speaker. The Clinton polices and the Newt policies are one and the same.

I have read the comments. I am more convinced than before that some people are just stupid. Comments by self described liberals are understood and expected. But the arguments fall below the level of intelligent thought. One thing the Prez does not ever want is a one-on-one debate with Newt Gingrich. There are reasons for that. There are likewise reasons why Newt has a bump in the polls. The GOP field is narrowed to 3, maybe 4 and Newt is high on the list. We must expect Dems to pull out every non-issue attack possible. Alas, the Yellow Dogs cannot attack Newt or Cain on conservative principles or ability to lead by example.

When it comes to foreign policy (The Presidents most important job), Ron Paul is worse then Obama. There is no way he can garner more that 15% in the Republican primary and 6 or 7% in a general election.

Foreign policy is the reason Libertarians (Ron Paul) can not be considered a legitimate third party. A good deal of Republicans and a good many Democrats listen to Libertarians on the Domestic side and would consider voting for them until they start talking about their unrealistic world view.

My only question for the “Conservative” folk (if TRUE conservatism is anything more than a myth): Why do you believe that Clinton’s indescretions trump Nixon’s when it comes to one party’s claim on values and morals?

And to the Solyndra Circle Jerkers: Half a billion is quite a lot of money to lose. But I truely believe that the Bush-Paulson Scheme “dwarfs” those losses by a country mile!

TD quoting Ted Nugent as a deep thinker — he’s not even a third rate guitar player.

TD comparing Newt’s diploma from Emory in ‘65 and MS and PhD (in early European History) from Tulane in ‘71 to degrees From Columbia in 1983 and JD Magna Cum Laude from Harvard Law School in 1991.

TD comparing Newt’s teaching stint at West Georgia College and Kennesaw State College to Obama’s teaching of Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago from 1992 to 2004.

Obama would wipe the floor with Gingrich in any lecture hall, debate, etc.

Gingrich has failed, resigned or been removed at/from every endeavor he’s ever attempted — except bilking the government and fellow Republicans from their dollars. He is the epitome of what is wrong with cronyism and out of control lobbying in Washington. He invented K. Street.

Is there any wonder no one takes TD seriously?

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-11-15/gingrich-said-to-be-paid-by-freddie-mac-to-win-republican-allies.html

as to draft dodger, he was stepson of miliary man who did not serve at heigth of viet nam. the material i have read, says he got student deferments not just for undergrad, but grad school too. got his phd in 71.

per this story he also got marriage deferment….http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/newt/vanityfair3.html

i was drafted in 69 so i know the games played….i used my student deferment for 4 years and my selective service board had a quota…..guess i could have gone to grad school and done rotc which at that time would have likely meant several months active with remainder of 6 years in reserves….

many friends of mine in this time period used student deferments and marriage and marriage with family to avoid serving….some friends that were not college ready joined the air force & navy in hopes of avoiding frontline service although even those bracnches did do quite a bit of direct combat, ie friend of mine in navy fought in nam on the rivers

The answer to your only question is, Clinton, Edwards, and Gingrich could be called immoral. Nixon on the other hand was just a liar. I don’t believe I’ve read anything to indicate that anyone thinks Nixon was somehow less honest or moral than your man Clinton, they were both very wrong.

And to the Solyndra Circle Jerkers: Half a billion is quite a lot of money to lose. But I truely believe that the Bush-Paulson Scheme “dwarfs” those losses by a country mile!

I’ve been hearing and reading this kind of bs for almost three years now. If the phrase, “Well George Bush”, were banned from the English language, you so called progressives would be tongue tied.

For better or worse, Obama will handily defeat ever GOP candidate with the exception of one. Romney will probably be the one to actually take the beating. Herman Cain had a sliver of hope at making it to the big dance next November, but blew it when he opened his mouth. Rick Perry went the Herman Cain route before Herman Cain chose the Herman Cain route. Newt is way too angry and abrasive. Newt’s dirty laundry has dirty laundry. Ron Paul will give President Obama a good run. He is the new middle. He’s opposite the side of the circle of the old middle. He’s at 12 o’clock, Reps are @ 3, Dems @ 9 and the old middle @ 6.

If Paul should get the nomination, America would win. The conversation between he and Obama is one this country has long needed.

Obama 2012

November 17th, 2011
9:25 am

In a June 2007 op-ed in the Des Moines Register, Gingrich wrote, “Personal responsibility extends to the purchase of health insurance. Citizens should not be able to cheat their neighbors by not buying insurance, particularly when they can afford it, and expect others to pay for their care when they need it.” An “individual mandate,” he added, should be applied “when the larger health-care system has been fundamentally changed.”

And in several of his many policy and politics-focused books, Gingrich offered much the same.

In 2008′s “Real Change,” he wrote, “Finally, we should insist that everyone above a certain level buy coverage (or, if they are opposed to insurance, post a bond). Meanwhile, we should provide tax credits or subsidize private insurance for the poor.”

In 2005′s “Winning the Future,” he expanded on the idea in more detail: “You have the right to be part of the lowest-cost insurance pool and you have a responsibility to buy insurance. … We need some significant changes to ensure that every American is insured, but we should make it clear that a 21st Century Intelligent System requires everyone to participate in the insurance system.”

“People whose income is too low should receive Medicaid vouchers and tax credits to buy insurance,” he continued. “Large risk pools (association health plans are one model) should be established so low-income people can buy insurance as inexpensively as large corporations. Furthermore, it should be possible to buy your health insurance on-line to lower the cost as much as possible.”
