It worked, Jim! Perry can poke fun at himself, at least.

And being on Letterman for a “Top Ten” list is about how important his gaffe was in the first place. Leave it to the media to shine the light on everything but what’s important. The CNBC moderators for the most recent debate looked like a bunch of buffoons.

Yeah. I want this guy to be President. Can you imagine….

He is negotiating with China. He wants 3 things for the US from China, but “forgets” the third. That’ll work.

Not a bad idea really. Making the best of an awful situation. It’ll be interesting to see if you pulls out of it…

Loved it! He’s got that same self-deprecating charm W had. It seems a little forced, but if he’d relax a little, he’s a natural.

He’s definitely got a future in entertainment (Faux News) just not in national politics… (hopefully)

Are you kidding me? He failed the test. “I made a big mistake at an important moment, and now I’ll go around and show everyone what a joke I think the debates are!” He should be embarrassed, not mocking the very idea of debates.

I think I’d rather a president who gives a crap and comes prepared to important meetings and debates.

He’s definitely a charmer and knows how to work a camera. But why doesn’t Letterman greet him properly and give him the attention a state governor, or any guest, deserves? Does he treat all his guests this way?

Not a Perry fan, but Winston Churchill apparently had the same issue, couldn’t handle the back-and-forth of debate well, but did much better when delivering a prepared speech. I think the TV debates we see are silly and structured like quiz shows. Do want a prez who can speak well and bring folks together that way.

10. I’m an idiot
9. I was too busy thinking of the next country the US should illegally invade and occupy.
8. I have no principles so picking 3 required hours of study of the political winds.
7. I was too busy shoveling money to all my crony friends in Texas courtesy of the taxpayers.
6. I was trying to remember what other deadly vaccines besides Gardasil the folks at Merck wanted me to force on the teenage girls of Texas.
5. I was too busy trying to figure out how George W. Bush would answer the question.
4. I was too busy wondering which agency would piss off AIPAC the least.
3. I was wondering what Bevis or Butthead would do.
2. I was wondering if all those rumors about my being gay were true.
1. I knew that Ron Paul already had all the right answers and was trying to remember what 5 agencies he had already said he would cut in his wonderful plan to restore america because they were certainly better choices than anything I could come up with.

It certainly worked for the people he is counting on to support him, the crazed Tea Party right-wingers. Their common and mediocre intelligence level perfectly matches Perry’s level and, as America is dumbing down more and more every day, he just might be our next President.

Sure those CNBC journalist cheerleaders for Wall Street are a bunch of pinko’s.
What would be nice is if he would explain why he wants to close those three, and where there vital functions would be transferred to – like who is in charge of our nuclear arsenal, or will monitor nuclear power plant [and research reactors], when we don’t have the energy department around anymore?

‘”Of all the talents bestowed upon men, none is so precious as the gift of oratory. He who enjoys it wields a power more durable than that of a great king. He is an independent force on the world. Abandoned by his party, betrayed by his friends, stripped of his offices, whoever can command this power is still formidable.”
-Sir Winston Churchill, in his 1897 essay ‘The Scaffolding of Rhetoric’

By the way, Gov. Perry read his cue cards very well; Fox should offer him a job.

Hi,

THIS IS WHAT WE HAVE RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT!!!! FOR OUR YOUNG AND OLD WE ARE IN TROUBLE! OUT OF ALL THE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE IN THE US PLEASE LOOK AT WHAT WE HAVE RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT. WAKE UP PEOPLE WE NEED A TRUE LEADER AND WE NEED TO DOWN SIZE CONGRESS. NO WAY THIS MANY EGOS CAN AGREE ON ANYTHING. WE NEED ONE LEADER AND 20 GREAT MINDS TO MAKE ALL DECISIONS AND HAVE THE GOVERNORS OF THE STATE TO PUT THE RULES/LAWS INTO ACTION. LETS STOP THIS DEMOCRATS / REPUBLICAN CRAP AND EVERY DAY DRAINING POLTICAL CRAP. I KNOW I AND PEOPLE I TALK WITH ARE SICK OF IT.

Perry is right. Private enterprise has no need for infrastructure support, skilled workers, and the one he forgot; no need for reliable energy. Talk about intellegence. There are times when being silly is funny, but this isn’t the time.

@Smokewagon: What would a GOP president have done differently had he/she been handed a recession, 2 wars, DOW at 6,000 and 700,000 lost jobs a month? All I hear is criticism from the the right and ZERO solutions. Obama’s at 48% approval and the GOP congress at 9%.

What were you saying?

This whole thing is a joke. Obama makes speaking gaffes every time he goes off the teleprompter. How about his comment about 57 states? Nobody in the media creates a storm about that and says he should have dropped out of his campaign. I’m not one to scream about the “left wing media” but this sure is a double standard if there ever was one. And I would challenge anyone that criticizes Perry about this, to stand up and say they always remembered every statement they every wanted to make. For the record, I don’t even like Perry, but this is far too out of hand.

Honky:
#1 Remove stifling regulations on businesses so they are free to flourish -except environmental laws
#2 No bailouts
#3 Not throwing billions any companies claiming to be “green”
#4 Not creating class warfare environment within our society – always threatening to tax the so called rich and stifling business growth.
#5 Creating jobs so handouts would not be so necessary-the Democratic slave mentality is destroying our country.

These are just a few of the Republican ideas that come to mind.

Agree with Brian at 10:11. I’m not a Perry supporter either but to everyone piling on – how did your latest speech to the nation go? If you had to stand up tomorrow and debate the President of your company about an idea you have, how do you think it would go? Focus on the principles and ideals that drive a candidate. Look at what they have accomplished. We currently have a very well spoken President who delivers a great speech. Too bad we don’t have one whose principles and ideals can keep America great.

News flash 2009 – The U.S. Mint issued quarters in honor of the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, Samoa, Virgin Islands, and the Mariana Islands. The only territory not honored, but is overseen by the POTUS is the Philippines. 50 States, DC, plus 6 territories. Smarter than a Dixiecrat, given if there was a gaffe. Now, what was that 3rd agency?
