Herman Cain admits knowing of cash settlement, describes gesture

At the National Press Club this afternoon, GOP presidential campaign Herman Cain said this about accusations of inappropriate behavior with two female employees of the National Restaurant Association, which he headed:

”As far as a settlement, I am unaware of any kind of settlement. I hope it wasn’t for much, because I didn’t do anything. But the fact of the matter is, I’m not aware of a settlement that came out of that accusation.”

But in an interview with Greta Van Susteren of Fox News, to be aired at 10 p.m. this evening, Cain will contradict himself. He will admit knowing about a cash settlement – “maybe three months’ salary,” according to Byron York of the Washington Examiner.

Cain will also describe the gesture cited as offensive by the unidentified woman, according to York – who apparently has heard or seen the video. He’s a Fox News contributor.

Updated at 7:50 p.m. Herman Cain said much the same thing in an interview with Judy Woodruff of PBS’ “The News Hour”:

From the PBS website:

Judy Woodruff: Do you know what incidents or — either incident or incidents they’re talking about? And were you ever alone with either one of these women?

Herman Cain: The answer is — not in a social setting, but maybe in an office or something like that, and we’d have a big convention in Chicago.

One incident with the one who made the formal charge, the only one that I could recall after a day of trying to remember specifics, was once I referenced this lady’s height and I was standing near her, and I did this saying, you’re the same height of my wife, because my wife is five feet tall and she comes up to my chin. This lady’s five feet tall and she came up to my chin. So obviously she thought that that was too close for comfort. It showed up in the actual allegation. But at the time when I did that, you know, it was in my office, the door was wide open, and my secretary was sitting right there, as we were standing there and I made the little gesture. Other than that, I can’t even recall what some of the other things were. And as I mentioned, they were all found to be baseless.

Judy Woodruff: And there was some mention of a hotel room at a convention or at a meeting. Did any one of these women, were they ever asked to meet you, or….

Herman Cain:: That I absolutely do not recall. You know, I have no recollection of that.

Judy Woodruff:: Was there any behavior on your part that you think might have been inappropriate?

Herman Cain: In my opinion, no. But as you would imagine, it’s in the eye of the person who thinks that maybe I crossed the line.

I worked for the Department of the Navy, the Coca-Cola Company, Pillsbury, Burger King, Godfather’s Pizza — years and years and years of working in the business environment, working around men, women, all types of people — never, never accused of any sort of sexual harassment. I have never sexually harassed anyone. And so this false allegation to now come up is kind of baffling.

First, denial, then, a re-statement, then admitthat what was reported was factually correct, then… When you are in a hole, quit digging.

Goodness Galloway, you’re feeding raw meet to the socialists on your blogs! Keep up the good work as the more you and you cadre of airhead socialists condemn the Hermanator, the more votes he picks up. Watch yourself. The doors have swung wide open back at the plantation and Massuh has had to let the hoards out. They finally opened their eyes and cleared the BS and will now vote Republican as they did in Abe Lincoln’s time. After all, he (a Republican) was the one that set them free and they have found out that that all these years they have bitten the hand that fed them originally. No, the black folks aren’t dumb after all!

Cain is beginning to realize what it means to be in the big leagues. It’s not enough just to be a wise-cracking contrarian African American. And once his talk radio ultra-right-wing ding-bat diatribes become public, Cain is through as a politician outside the State of Georgia. Cain makes Neal Bortz look like a liberal choir-boy.

The Cain apologists bashing Jim Galloway are showing they “think” emotionally rather than rationally. All Galloway did here was report what Cain said in two (recorded, televised, preserved and accessible) interviews. How is that his fault if Cain’s statements were mutually exclusive?

I love it! What we have here is a man who is not Washington and admits it when he makes a mistake! Instead of denial denial denial for weeks and then the truth sneaks out and you hear more denial (Wiener I’m referring)! Where were all the investigations on Obama – really? They are going to tell you what type of toilet paper he uses before its all done yet we don’t even know any of Obamas friends from college that actually knew him – Really? I have lost all respect for Journalist they should be ashamed of how they are treating this man. What if this is true what corporation hasn’t paid off people to stay out of court, oh yeah that makes him guilty doesn’t it! I used to worry about Obama being the president and being shot because of some maniac – I now realize that it won’t happen I should really be more worried about Herman – with what I’m seeing this man is a real enemy to the left. God Bless you Herman!

This one time, at band camp, this friend of mine said her sister told her that her cousin overheard this other kid saying that he saw a text message of this one girl who was walking past the cafeteria and overheard two public school teachers and one of them was saying they went to this Occupy Atlanta rally and while standing next to an NBC truck overheard one of the self-proclaimed “Political Insiders” saying that they had this great scoop about Herman Cain. Supposedly this woman came up to him after an Obama appreciation dinner event and said she use to work for National Restaurant Association before working for ACORN and she remembers hearing that someone there accused Cain of saying something inappropriate or maybe it was doing an obscene gesture and she believes they paid a settlement of some kind to keep it hush hush. And of course now I’m simply making sure that the rest of the media knows that Herman Cain is a sex offending molester of employees and hes simply trying to cover it up these 20 years later. This just proves he’s not fit to be President. Shout it from the rooftops!

“I don’t know whether voters will buy Cain’s story or whether the need to field questions for some time will hobble his campaignBut what is clear is that Cain plainly had no idea what running for president was all about. When he analogized at the Press Club his lack of knowledge of foreign policy to his lack of knowledge about pizza-making before he took the job at Godfather’s Pizza, one sensed that perhaps GOP voters might have second thoughts about whether a complete political novice is their best bet to beat President Obama.”

Herman Cain is not going to get the nomination, but it sure makes you wonder why the liberal media is attacking him so much. Maybe this is just practice and keeping their powder dry to attack Romney later.

Cain Begs For Affirmative Action

“They’re going to come after me more viciously than they would a white candidate,” Mr. Cain predicted to The Washington Examiner in May. “You’re right. Clarence Thomas. And so, to use Clarence Thomas as an example, I’m ready for the same high-tech lynching that he went through — for the good of this country.”

Note the irony?
