GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain continues to fly high in national polls, as a new CBS/New York Times survey today has him “squeaking” past former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney:
Cain garnered 25 percent support of Republican primary voters in the poll released on Tuesday, compared to Romney’s 21 percent.
Former U.S. House speaker Newt Gingrich finished third with 10 percent. The surprise is Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who has deflated to a distant fifth – behind his Texas rival Ron Paul – at 6 percent.

Meanwhile, in an attempt to bring some academic heft to the debate over his “9-9-9” plan, Herman Cain has arranged for a friendly, Friday discussion of his economic policy via the American Enterprise Institute. The event will be livestreamed. Panelists will include William G. Gale of the Brookings Institution; Rich Lowrie of Friends of Herman Cain, and Stephen Moore of the Wall Street Journal.
***
Another sign that Cain is getting into the swing of things in Iowa: This Internet ad, which could be subtitled: “Let’s you and him fight.”
***
And Newt Gingrich will appear next Wednesday, Nov. 2, at what the 7th District Republican party says will be the first of a series of presidential forums. Time is 6 p.m. Locale is the Gwinnett Place Marriott.

@ TD
C’mon dude… enough with the “Your vote will not be counted” nonsense you post on AJC blogs every day. Everyone’s vote is counted and tallied at the end of the day as the popular vote. We all know the Electoral College changes things up a bit, but your statements are essentially INCORRECT. More and more Americans are pushing for the abolishment of the current electoral system in favor of the popular vote. PLUS there are many other important local issues to decide on the ballot and EVERYONE should vote.

What has this President done, for the good of the country, that he can no doubt take credit for? The only thing close is killing some terrorist. But is that it?

redcoat,
No fixing shrubs mistakes on terrorism was just a start.
Without herculean efforts on the President’s part, shrubs efforts at totally destroying the American economy and creating massive economic dis-equilibrium with his disastrous unfunded wars and unexplainable tax cuts might have ’succeeded’.

redcoat,
Do you really want to go back to the hideous policies of the previous administration?
Do you think it is appropriate to confiscate taxpayers money to provide ‘free’ security to petroleum extraction and transportation companies?
Just how much of the 2001-2008 disaster was what you want from your government?

redcoat,
So you prefer turn back to the cliff and push America over, the way we were going prior to 2009?
We were sliding down the cliff and pulled ourselves back up in 2009.
Then in 2010 we elected a House that ran up to the cliff and jumped.
When do repugs accept that an entire ideology has failed?
Personally I want to get back to Clinton Era Prosperity, higher taxes and all!

Are my statements factually accurate? The popular vote for President does not mean anything (remember Gore had more popular votes then did Bush and there are 3 other examples in history with the same result).
Georgia will have 16 votes for President next year and all 16 votes will be cast for the Republican nominee. There will be no votes cast for Obama on deciding the Presidency in Georgia. Obama knows this and will only give a token effort at campaigning in Georgia. No one voting for Obama in Georgia will have their vote counted.
I have never said you should not vote but if you think you are coming out to have your vote count for Obama next year in Georgia then you are being fed a line of BS.
As far as the electoral college being changed then that will take a Constitutional amendment. The states have the right to change it within their own states and make the votes more representative but I can almost guarantee you that any state that is totally controlled by one party or is large will never do it.

redcoat,
Sorry for the delay, business to run.
Look, like you probably do, I wish the stimulus had been two or three times larger so the effect would have been linear. Yet I am proud the President was able to call the repugs to heel and get what he could.
Think of just how bad thing in this country would be today had the President sat on his hands (shrub like) and let the American Auto Industry collapse. Rather than have the angry unemployed we have now with OWS, we would have to stay up at night guarding our meager supplies from the yuppies outside of town with their out-of-gas suv’s circled up (’bushtown’) waiting for dark so they could come into town and steal from us.
Things could be a lot worse, like ryan and cantor want them to be.

I think there are some semantics involved when td refers to votes not counting. All votes will be COUNTED, but in the Georgia presidential election, only the plurality winner (Republican) will COUNT since the Electoral College casts an all or none 16 votes. Obama stands no chance in Georgia – but might want to force the Republican nominee to waste some time here instead of being in the critical swing states. No way the Republican nominee will spend less time in Georgia than Obama (if he comes at all).
