Bob Barr confirms he’s considering a return to Congress

Last week, we heard that former Georgia congressman and Libertarian candidate for president Bob Barr was considering a Republican challenge to U.S. Rep. Tom Graves of Ranger.

It was good information, but we could never track Barr himself down to confirm the report. However, Steven Nelson at the Daily Caller in Washington just did:

Barr [said] “some supporters are encouraging me” to run for Congress in 2012. He noted that because of redistricting, “much of the new 14th District was part of my old 7th District.”

Barr, who lost his congressional seat in 2002, is a Cobb County resident. The 14th District drifts from far north Georgia down to next-door Paulding County.

Barr told the DC that no decision had been made yet.

It would be interesting to see if he would attempt the run as a libertarian or would challenge in the Republican primary. Running as a third party or independent candidate would be a tough ‘row to hoe’ as the saying goes, but I wouldn’t mind seeing Bob run. He would add to the debate in an important way. His views at this stage certainly are more truly ’small government’ than just about any Republican out there.

I guess I should read more closely, it says ‘Republican challenge’. Oh well, that would still be interesting.

Geez! All the many years and I thought Jimmy Carter had the lock on the “Worst President in American History.” 2008 proved me wrong. Bankrupt America! YES WE CAN! Give her some Hope and Change!

You somehow overlook the arrogant children in Congress who have obstructed every hopeful change put forward. Personally, I would like to see all the teapottys changed back into insurance salesman so the Country can regain the Hope of progress.

Jenzen: No one with any knowledge of the history of the Presidency has ever seriously considered Carter one of the worst. He was a competent President during a period in which it wasn’t possible to accomplish much more than damage control. Don’t forget what preceded him …

As long as bobbar runs against an equally detestable repugnican (that leaves several open and contested districts in our backward little state) it could be a positive development.

Bob Barr has been laying the ground work on a run for Congress for months now.

How can you be a Libertarian and not write one article on the Atlanta police Eagle night club raid? You would think the issue would warrant comment from the AJC Libertarian columnist. Not one word from Bob about the raid when he was writing for the AJC.

Its obvious now why Barr was silent on the issue, a Libertarian view on the matter would be red meat for any opponent he would face. No way would any district in north Georgia vote for someone that didn’t have total disgust for gay people, no matter the circumstance.

In hindsight it’s pretty obvious Barr has been planning a comeback, as a Republican.

Barr did maintain a law office in Jasper which is in the ninth with an open seat. Maybe he should run there.

I am the only one who remembers Bob Barr trying to “defend” himself for looking Black to Dixiecrats? Meanwhile some Dixiecrats said he “acted” Black too, when in fact he and Newton Leroy were acting more like strict Mormons, but were worse than Clinton. No offense, but I’m just sayin’

ALL articles about Bob Barr written by the AJC should include the fact that he also writes a weekly column for the AJC. Several months ago he was representing Baby Doc down in Haiti and the AJC conviently forgot to mention that he also worked for the AJC. This is not transparency and leads readers to think the AJC is hiding something from them.
I expect better, though I don’t know why. This sure isn’t the AJC I grew up with.

It might be a good idea for Barr to run. If Obama wins then we will need another good attorney to impeach him and he did a great job against Clinton

Bob Barr seeking to represent the conservative 14th District is laughable. He is a wild eyed libertarian who’s views on the family, drugs, pornography, etc…would serve him better in a liberal democratic primary.

Bob Barr was rejected by conservatives years ago, if he wants to run again, he’ll get the smack down once again.

You my friend must be smoking something and you do not understand how Presidents are rated in history. Go back and read what the ten best Presidents in US history have in common. It is all about protecting the country and Bush’s response to 9/11 has cemented his place in history no matter how you leftest feel. GWB will be in the top 15 Presidents of all time and Obama will be in the bottom 15 along with Carter and Hoover.

Do a little research my friend and stop shooting off the hip.

The interesting thing about this conversation regarding a possible Bob Barr running for Congress is, it would appear, alot of armchair political “experts” weighing in on a man that the liberal media made a point of destroying………..From the Clinton days, all the way up to Barr’s run against Linder some years ago………..I know Bob Barr personally, the historian, scholar, exceptional Father and Husband and fine example of a Christian man………Bob was always kind to me, even though it wasn’t important for him to do so. I got a first hand look at this man’s love of America, and his feeling of duty………….On the other hand, I also know, albeit not nearly as well, Tom Graves, who I also consider a fine American, with an eye on doing the right thing……….The state of Georgia and indeed our great Nation would be well served with both of these in the United States House Of Representatives……………GOD BLESS AMERICA

First, Barr had his time, and he needs to sit back, collect that lucrative pension and do a book tour on a book that no one will really read. Second, Bush is no way in the top 20 of best Presidents. For all you liberals out there, Obama and the liberals had 2 years of total control. Why are they just now saying it’s the Republican controlled House that is obstructing them. They had 2 years to get all their dream bills, job “creation” bills, and “restore” America bills passed. Instead they were too busy passing bills that destoryed jobs, killed the American Dream, and created more debt in two years than what was created in the first 230+ years of this country.
