Saw it live. Grudgingly surprised at how well Gingrich did. The Washington Post reporter lived up to her history of hating Republicans with loaded/editorialized type questions and arguing with the answers, but Charlie Rose and the Bloomberg reporter seemed fair. Romney is obviously the one to beat, and as such had to take most of the questions from the candidates when they were given the chance – he did well. Pretty good unbiased summary (shockingly to me) by an AJC columnist/blogger:

It is a shame that Newt has so many moral issues to get elected because he is by far the most qualified and smartest person running for the Presidency in this cycle.

While I’m with you about Newt’s moral issues, I’m convinced Newt can win this year. Why? The election will be “does Obama deserve another term”. If the voter answers no, which a majority of voters will I predict, the next question will be is the republican qualified to be president? The answer to that for Newt is absolutely yes. I think Newt would kill Obama in the debates and seal the deal.

It was interesting to say the least. I still feel after watching the entire 2 hour debate that not one of these candidates will be able to hold a match to the President.

I have been watching the field closely the entire year. I am now confident that one of the 3 following will be the Republican nominee 1) newt 2) cain ) romney. If I were to have to bet the farm right now, it would likey be Romney as the winner. However, I believe Newt is so much better at articulating bold new and common sense solutions than either of the other two – I truly believe he will win out over time and will absolutely destroy Obama in the General election debates. He comes across as VERY much in tune with ALL of the issues. After visiting his web page and reading his position on the big issues, I am sold he is the best to lead this country. I too am disappointed in some of his moral issues and his poor judgement of taking such elaborate vacations while in the political limelight and while so many are suffering. However, I can move past these issues because electing the right next president is so critical to our country’s future and none of the candidates are flawless. I have never contributed financially to a political candidate until today. I just donated $250 to newt. If you actually go to his web page newt.org and watch the videos and read the solutions he has laid out, I am confident you too will be as convinced as I am that he is by far the best LEADERSHIP candidate. With this said, I am very proud for Cain as he rises in the polls. He has the spirit and honesty we all wish Washington would adopt. However, I just dont think he has the true depth we need as the president. Romney has the knowledge, he just does not come across with the passion i need in a president. Also, more often than not after watching him speak on issues, I am left with a feeling that his responses are somewhat plastic. Bottom line, i can support any of theses three over Obama – not a hard choice. I encourage all to say a prayer soon for our country and that we elect the Best leader in the field. I did a few nights ago, and today my choice became crystal clear!

Horace Robinson-

No Candidate is perfect an yes we have to have faith that there is a solution to our problems. Without faith what are we left with? the answer nothing. Faith didnt put us in a war or give us unemployment OUR decisions did. We are in a war because they attacked us. More people would be employed if they were willing to humble themselves an do a job that immigrants both illegial an legal do.
