Wow. What Harry Belafonte said about Herman Cain
The folks over at CNN have just sent over a snippet of an interview with actor, singer and political activist Harry Belafonte on “The Joy Behar Show.” The entire interview will be on hold until 10 p.m. Friday on HLN:
A partial transcript:
Behar: ….Now you have someone like Herman Cain –
Belafonte: Who?
Behar: Herman Cain.
Belafonte: Herman Cain….
Behar: You know who he is. (Laughs) And he doesn’t believe that racism holds anyone back, in any way now. What do you think about that statement?
Belafonte: It’s very hard to comment on somebody who is so denied intelligence – and certainly who is denied a view of history, such as he reveals. He knows very little. Because he happened to have good fortune, because he happened to have had a moment when he broke through — the moment someone blinked – does not make him the authority on the plight of people of color.
If black people are not having the worst time of it, all you need to do is take a look at the prison system. We have the largest prison population in the world. The largest members of that population are black and people of color….
The Republican party, the tea party, all those forces to the extreme right, have consistently tried to come up with representation for what they call black, for what they call the real Negroes, and try to push these images as the kinds of voices that Americans should be listening to.
So we have Condoleezza Rice, we’ve got Colin Powell – they’re heroes for some people. But for a lot us, they’re not.
And Herman Cain is the latest incarnation of what is totally false to the needs of our community, and the needs of our nation. I think he’s a bad apple, and people should look at his hole card. He’s not what he says he is.
Behar: No, I don’t think he has a prayer in the election, anyway.
Belafonte: I don’t think prayers were created for him.
Here was Cain’s response, via The Hill newspaper in D.C.:
“As far as Harry Belafonte’s comment, look, I left the Democratic plantation a long time ago. And all that they try to do when someone like me — and I’m not the only black person out there that shares these conservative views — the only tactic that they have to try and intimidate me and shut me up is to call me names, and this sort of thing. It just simply won’t work,” Cain said.

Wow, the insanity here. Some blacks and whites made some good points; others not so much. But here is the REAL truth: it doesn’t matter whom we elect in 2012. Neither Obama, Cain, Palin or Romney will be able to fix anything. The president has no power. This country is run by the banking industry, oil industry, the auto industry, the steel industry, the military industrial complex and the corn industry. They own the White House, the Senate, the courts and the media. Obama promised that he would, if elected, end the war, and bring about real change. But three years into his term, we are now involved in TWO wars, and NOTHING whatsoever has changed. Why? Because the minute he took office, he discovered who is really in charge, and he realized he had no choice but to become the puppet he now is, just as Dubya had to do before him. So I’m going to turn off my computer now and go watch sports or something, and keep my mouth shut, like a good, patriotic sheep.

So go ahead start your war, the one that everyone understands assess like you want. Make your power grab and good luck to you. But when you lose, which you will because of lack of allies and infighting for power, don’t expect sympathy because for many of us our sympathy for many blacks has turned to nothing more than disgust at how you waste, blame and openly promote racism on your own.
There are literally hundreds, even thousands of distinct cultures, from every country and continent in this world who come here and find away to get along, including blacks from Africa, it is a minority of blacks that want to be different and not to get along with anyone.
Oh and Dan, based on your input about voting for the Civil Rights act, the Republic still gave greater support for the bill than Democrats you idiot.

Yes racism still exists, this is obvious. Also freedom of choice does exist as well. Maybe those “black men” and other “men of color” need to be in jail because of the choices they made in life, hint, “crime and punishment.” All Herman Cain is saying that success is a choice, not because your white or black. If you make the right “decisions” and don’t blame your color for some of your failures, you will get somewhere. I’m tired of “black folks” making excuses for mediocrity, if your not following some type of stereotype your a “sell out.” I know a lot of successful black men that have great careers, this is due to the decisions they made. We need to stop making excuses for mediocrity.

You people have no clue as to Harry Belafonte really is; he is HIGHLY regarded (by those that matter- the people who have been oppressed and marginalized from the beginning of American history) as a thoughtful, intelligent, sober-minded warrior for justice, peace, and truth. He was a trusted advisor and friend of Dr. King, El Hajj Malik El Shabazz and other titans of the struggle. Angel of God – you are the actual Uncle Tom. Mr. Cain was actually raised by 2 black folks. He was prevented from attending UGA & utilized the HBC in Atlanta, and with a unique talent for mathematics, excelled. Perhaps not wallowing in discernable victimhood made him more attractive for employment. But he did not accomplish what he did by luck.

I wonder if reading this was what it was like for the blacks in the 60’s when they read race laced tirades from whites.

For the record, there are more white people on welfare than blacks. In this economy there is probably more whites on assistance.
In the county where I live I was a foster parent and at the DFACS office there are 90% of whites getting assistance than blacks. As a foster parent I asked for assistance and they told me I made too much money and I am retired getting $20,000 a year.
So don’t talk to me about assistance until you have walked in my shoes.

Why don’t you race baiters admit it—a well educated, properous black man or woman cause you major problems. You lecture white America on the oppression perpertrated against blacks by keeping them poor an uneducated, yet when Cain, Powell (who has sided with Obama by the way) or Rice display the progress you say you are denied, you treat them exactly like you say white America does.

However, since blacks are about what? 22% of GA, most concentrated in urban areas, if you live in real rural area,most folks getting help (all those former house construction folks of all stripes) will probably be white. Also, if you only earn $20 grand, why are you fostering? Enjoy financial difficulty? However, I would assume your house is paid off, and have relatively low living costs, yes? I would also assume the payments you recieve as a foster parent don’t count toward your declared income, yes?
