Talk radio giant Rush Limbaugh, who wields significant influence among the Republican grassroots, laid into GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain on Monday afternoon – accusing the presidential candidate from Georgia of participating in a “mainstream media” conspiracy to destroy the prospects of his rival, Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
Limbaugh also criticized Cain for admitting that he should have said something at a recent Republican debate in Florida when members of the audience booed a gay soldier.
Cain is already attempting to detach himself from the Perry story:
“I am not attacking Governor Perry. Some people in the media want to attack him. I’m done with that issue,” Cain said.
You know about the Washington Post piece:
In the early years of his political career, Rick Perry began hosting fellow lawmakers, friends and supporters at his family’s secluded West Texas hunting camp, a place known by the name painted in block letters across a large, flat rock standing upright at its gated entrance.
“[-------]head,” it read.
In a Sunday interview on CNN, Cain called Perry family’s handling of the issue “insensitive.” He also told Christiane Amanpour that in retrospect, he should have said something in support of the gay soldier during the Republican debate.
From a transcript on the Limbaugh web site:
RUSH: I’m gonna tell you, this is really disappointing to me. Herman Cain. I liked Herman Cain — like Herman Cain. The Washington Post has it as a Macaca story about Rick Perry. Apparently back when Rick Perry was a Democrat… There’s this woman at the Washington Post who’s written a story that, with traditional journalism, wouldn’t even pass the first review by an editor. But apparently back in the eighties when Perry was a Democrat, he and his dad would go hunting at someplace and there is a rock that had the N-word on it that somebody had painted over.
They’re trying to say that Perry’s a racist, and Herman Cain has jumped in and basically joined that chorus — and it is absurd. It’s painted over and they tried to paint cover it up and then they eventually turned it over so people wouldn’t see it….
So here you have the Washington Post with an unsupported nonstory, and here comes Herman Cain piggybacking on it trying to capitalize on it, essentially letting the mainstream media (in this case, the Washington Post) set the narrative. It’s exactly what I mean. There’s this… I don’t know if you call it a fear or just a mistaken belief that the power in media still exclusively resides in the mainstream media, and it’s those people that you have to get on your side; those people you have to use to get your message out, or what have you, and so that leads to pandering to them.
Cain is doing it in this case. The Republican leadership in both the House and Senate are renowned for doing it throughout all of our lives. Even some Republican presidents have done so.
There are no on-the-record sources for this. Cain is out there saying that Perry’s rock stuff was “insensitive.” Perry and his dad tried to cover it up and Herman Cain is out there saying that Perry’s insensitive. ….
Limbaugh also played a clip of the boos at the GOP debate in Florida:
RUSH: What is that, one or two people? One or two people. Now Herman Cain has joined this. Herman Cain is saying, “I should have defended that gay soldier booed during the GOP debate.” So what is it about the lead that some people cannot handle? Cain ends up being launched into the top tier as a result of his performance in this debate and now his whole demeanor changes. He’s gotta weigh in on all this stuff. He acts like he’s reached the top tier, and now he has to act like what he thinks a top-tier candidate would do. That is really misreading this.

No one should pay any attention to this circus barker but the GOP and right in general has become so dumbed down that they cannot tell the difference between a journalism and a fool like Limbaugh.
Unfortunately this extends to their slate of candidates. A twit like Bachmann should have been laughed off the floor of Congress for claiming that CO2 is a harmless gas because it is natural, Cain’s 999 tax formula and keep bills to three pages are sets of simplistic recommendations for simple minds, Paul is a creationist doctor, Perry brags about toting a gun and shooting coyotes, and on it goes.
If one is an intelligent moderate they have no place in the GOP. The fringe has clearly become the mainstream.

So Rush doesn’t think a candidate should point to opponents’ weaknesses? Rush never seems to let fairness or facts get in the way of a good hatchet job. The Perry hunting camp story points to a very real fact in the south: Many (but by no means, all) still think it’s ok to talk and joke like it was the 50s. As a white person, I have on many occasions been in the company of people who, simply because I’m white and southern, think I agree with their point of view on race. They are dismissive or unbelieving when I explain that I don’t.
Cain is correct that this “we’re off in the woods, so it’s ok to open up” only serves to prolong intolerance in our 21st century society. I am not sure why Rush wanted to be sure to point out that Perry was a Democrat when he went to this camp. The problem is not one of party. Practically everyone was a Democrat in the South until Reagan. They didn’t change stripes when they all changed parties.

I listened to Limvaugh’s show today, and I heard no such accusation. What Limbaugh said was that Cain had fallen prey to the belief that the mainstream media was necessary in a campaign to getting your message out. Limbaugh is supportive of Cain, and to inply otherwise is to ’shade’ the truth.

Wow…so ironic that the so called “enlightened liberals” reduce themselves to name calling and personal attacks when they can’t articulate a rational idea to support their cause. I thought the Democratic Party was supposed to be the “softer” side of our people! Seems to me like a lot of you have been led down a very dangerous road. Liberal politicians survive on this tactic of playing hero to the poor and down-trodden. Look where it has gotten us. They have enabled entire segments of our country to sit on the couch while someone else pays for their rent, electricity, food and every other thing. I worked in residential construction 26 years until that market was destroyed by liberal mentality. Giving mortgages to people who cannot afford them is certainly not a conservative idea! It is not rich people who are ruining our country. It is the wrong policies of the left chinking away at our strength and freedom and turning us into a country of citizens that would rather stand with its hand out than go to work and pay it’s own bills. Running the Govt should be just like running a household or business. You can’t spend more than you make and not eventually go out of business. To stay in office Dems have undercut the responsibilities of our families, friends, churches and communities and I for one think it will be our undoing. It has created incredible divisiveness not to mention bankrupted us. It sound good! “Vote for me and I will get you help!” But in the long run…….what is it really doing?

The Democratic party has given you Nobel laureates, a Rhodes scholar, and a nuclear physicist. Republicans have given a B-grade actor, Nixon, and a couple of Bush dunces. Unfortunately, name calling and personal attacks is all right-wing conservatives understand. Sounds like your job in residential construction was nothing more than you having your hand out to people who worked for a living establishing credit (or not, since bad mortgages were made, as you’ve stated). Are you no longer in business because you spent more than you made? To blame your shortcomings on a political party shows your lack of understanding.

But go ahead and try to bash a hard working American contractor you arrogant liberal jackass. Don’t back down Herman. If its true, then Perry shouldn’t be president. As far as Limbaugh is concerned, you shouldn’t listen to a talking head for either side when choosing who to vote for. Look at all the information you can get from as many independent sources as you can find (believe me, they are getting harder to find) and vote for who you honestly think is the best candidate. Hopefully, we can get one who doesn’t keep putting party ahead of country. I actually did not vote for President Obama, and do not agree with a lot of his policies. However, in the budget showdown, I think he went a lot farther toward meeting somewhere in the middle than the republicans did. I worry that the republican party has become the corporate country club for millionaires. I am really gonna have to think hard about this next election, but Herman would have my vote, if for no other reason, than he would get rid of those useless waste of flesh over at the IRS. So, Conservatives (including myself) were pissed that Obama attempted to smooth things over with a beer summit with the Boston Police officer after putting his foot in his mouth and playing up the race card in the professors arrest…and now Cain attacks Perry for something he didn’t do and says he’s “insensitive” to blacks. Cain owes Perry an apology and once again is showing he’s not ready for prime time. I’m so sick of this racial bating crap and the fact that Cain jumped in…well, he lost my support. He’s a pander man who still hasn’t given any economists backing to his 9-9-9 plan and has ZERO experience in governing.
The Cain camp is on full attack of Perry and have bashed Perry…but this coming from Cain is unacceptable and shows he’s willing to use “race” as an edge. Pathetic. Those conservatives who support Cain just to prove that the Republican Party aren’t racists are no better than those who voted for Obama to prove they weren’t racists.
He supported TARP, has flip flopped on his religious panderings and now this. Cain needs to get out of the race and should quit playing the race card.

Obama missed endorsing the Simpson – Bowles proposal on deficit reduction, and screwed up a second time when he let Democrat Senators shoot down the “Grand Bargain” that was struck with Speaker Boehner. Most of the media has been predictably complicit in siding with the Democrats. This Op Ed in the liberal New York Times partially sums up where we are (omitting the “Grand Bargain” second mistake when Senate Democrats made Obama take it back):

2001-2006, when Cheney/Bush issued more executive orders and expanded the idea of the unitary executive, were the worst years in the history of the US. The country is still reeling from their failures. Darn right I blame Bush, it was his fault. His presidency was a complete and utter disaster.

I also love seeing car tags that say “H*ll No, I Ain’t Forgettin,’ when the driver has no clue as to what they are to suppose to remember.

Where are the accurate facts about this rock “sign”? Herman Cain was answering questions that the media person presented their version of the “facts” for him to respond. He should have made it clear that if those are the facts then this would be his opinion. If name calling was not allowed on this blog, how many responses would be remaining?

Ms. Jones, are you suggesting that the banksters who eagerly made imprudent mortgage loans, and then knowingly bundled and sold those loans with the aid of willing collaborators in the rating and insurance industries to unsuspecting buyers worldwide, were acting out of some sense of “the liberal mentality”? If so, and you cannot distinguish between greed and liberalism, then I suspect that the Republican Party claims at least one victim.

Comments such as those below seem to reflect the level of political discourse in our country today. This does not bode well. You know, if you don’t have anything to say, no one is making you touch that keyboard. Please take this type of argumentation back to middle school where it belongs. (My apologies to middle schoolers everywhere.)

Rush has his own following that are so in tuned with his brand of tart conversation that nothing else matters to them. Rush is more of a SHOCK JOCK. His views are meant to incite this type of comments to keep his show on the air. If you believe in his views then your a SHOCK JOCK reciever, who has no mind control what so ever.

” He (Limbaugh) is one of the leaders that will take this country back to conservatism.”
He had better get in a hurry then. Since his radio show went national the voters have elected a Republican president for 8 years and Democratic presidents for 12 years.
Limbaugh has an audience of just over 20 million listeners. In the 2008 election over 129 million people voted. Limbaugh’s audience is less than 20% of that total. If Limbaugh is going to lead the “conservative cause” he will need to get it in gear.
Look folks, Limbaugh does not lead anything. Limbaugh is a shrewd businessman who is making a fortune in the entertainment business. And he is an accomplished entertainer. A great entertainer.
But as some have pointed out above he has not led the conservatives to a final solution on any conservative programs. Because that is not his goal, his reason for being in business. His reason for being is money. And he is currently operating under a $400 million contract.
There is no leader of the “conservative movement” at this time. The conservatives are split between the evangelicals, the tea party and the “traditionalist”. Obama will attempt to keep the wedges between those splits alive for the next year.
The Republicans this summer/fall have gone from Trump, Bachmann, Cain, Perry and now to Christie as the hot flavors of the month. But already, before he as announced anything, Christie has a third of the Party saying he is to liberal. Interesting that Romney, who has not been the “hot flavor” of the month, is still slightly ahead of the pack.
Republicans are searching. And Limbaugh is not leading. Limbaugh is entertaining.

Rush Limbaugh and Pat Robertson. Seriously, what does it say about the potential for independent thought when so many conservatives hang on their every word. It only matters what they think if you can’t think. Has anyone noticed that just like politicians, they earn a handsome living off saying what their followers want to hear? It therefore follows that to that extent they are biased …. something like a patent medicine salesman in the old West. They are captive to their followers and their followers are captive to them.

This is why I stopped listening to Rush years ago. He’s too one dimensional. He harms the conservative cause more than he helps.
Herman Cain handled this the right way. He stated his objections to the N word rock inscription, and then tried to move on. The media and Rush are the ones keeping the story going.

Once again, Rush has proven how much of an idiotic hypocrite he truly is. If the tables were turned and it was Obama’s retreat, with a rock that said Honky Head, Racist Rush would be raking the president over the coals, calling him a racist and a hater of whites. Oh, and Mr. Cain, I would not believe for a minute that he likes or “liked” you. Rush is a known bigot who has spewed racist remarks on his radio station for years. If you were to win the nomination, I do not know if his cold, fat heart could take it. Food for thought: If Mr. Limbaugh holds this much clout concerning the Republican Party, what does that tell you about the GOP and his mindless listeners? Just saying…

I’m sure Rush has gotten his orders by now from the RNC to talk up Cain so that Romney can win. It’s all completely manipulated, and he (and Cain) are in on it. The Republican base is so stupid that they end up nominating whoever the RNC wants and then “holding their nose” to vote for them, always completely bewildered on how “the MSM” or “the Democrats” picked their lousy candidates. Huh?
