Talk radio giant Rush Limbaugh, who wields significant influence among the Republican grassroots, laid into GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain on Monday afternoon – accusing the presidential candidate from Georgia of participating in a “mainstream media” conspiracy to destroy the prospects of his rival, Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
Limbaugh also criticized Cain for admitting that he should have said something at a recent Republican debate in Florida when members of the audience booed a gay soldier.
Cain is already attempting to detach himself from the Perry story:
“I am not attacking Governor Perry. Some people in the media want to attack him. I’m done with that issue,” Cain said.
You know about the Washington Post piece:
In the early years of his political career, Rick Perry began hosting fellow lawmakers, friends and supporters at his family’s secluded West Texas hunting camp, a place known by the name painted in block letters across a large, flat rock standing upright at its gated entrance.
“[-------]head,” it read.
In a Sunday interview on CNN, Cain called Perry family’s handling of the issue “insensitive.” He also told Christiane Amanpour that in retrospect, he should have said something in support of the gay soldier during the Republican debate.
From a transcript on the Limbaugh web site:
RUSH: I’m gonna tell you, this is really disappointing to me. Herman Cain. I liked Herman Cain — like Herman Cain. The Washington Post has it as a Macaca story about Rick Perry. Apparently back when Rick Perry was a Democrat… There’s this woman at the Washington Post who’s written a story that, with traditional journalism, wouldn’t even pass the first review by an editor. But apparently back in the eighties when Perry was a Democrat, he and his dad would go hunting at someplace and there is a rock that had the N-word on it that somebody had painted over.
They’re trying to say that Perry’s a racist, and Herman Cain has jumped in and basically joined that chorus — and it is absurd. It’s painted over and they tried to paint cover it up and then they eventually turned it over so people wouldn’t see it….
So here you have the Washington Post with an unsupported nonstory, and here comes Herman Cain piggybacking on it trying to capitalize on it, essentially letting the mainstream media (in this case, the Washington Post) set the narrative. It’s exactly what I mean. There’s this… I don’t know if you call it a fear or just a mistaken belief that the power in media still exclusively resides in the mainstream media, and it’s those people that you have to get on your side; those people you have to use to get your message out, or what have you, and so that leads to pandering to them.
Cain is doing it in this case. The Republican leadership in both the House and Senate are renowned for doing it throughout all of our lives. Even some Republican presidents have done so.
There are no on-the-record sources for this. Cain is out there saying that Perry’s rock stuff was “insensitive.” Perry and his dad tried to cover it up and Herman Cain is out there saying that Perry’s insensitive. ….
Limbaugh also played a clip of the boos at the GOP debate in Florida:
RUSH: What is that, one or two people? One or two people. Now Herman Cain has joined this. Herman Cain is saying, “I should have defended that gay soldier booed during the GOP debate.” So what is it about the lead that some people cannot handle? Cain ends up being launched into the top tier as a result of his performance in this debate and now his whole demeanor changes. He’s gotta weigh in on all this stuff. He acts like he’s reached the top tier, and now he has to act like what he thinks a top-tier candidate would do. That is really misreading this.

I am tired of idiots like Limbaugh, Hannity etc and their poisonous influence on the political discourse in this country. This fool has made millions sitting his fat butt behind a microphone running off his big mouth and has not only convince a large amount of the ignorant masses to believe his bull sh@t, but the Republican Party as well. Wake up America, if Limbaugh had the answers to what ails this country he would be in the White House instead of hiding behind a microphone and filling the air waves with propaganda.

You stupid fu@king libs are just too funny. You condemn someone that has had a large national following since 1988 and your little liberal AirAmerica outfit had to steal money from the Boy Scouts and the Feds just to try and stay on the air. Yeah, just keep crying your little eyes out, while Limbaugh laughs at you on his way to the bank. I just love how you limp wristed libs get your panties in a wad every time Rush Limbaugh’s name is mentioned. Wah, wah, wah, grow up.

Jones: Your 7:18 pm statement said it all but you are beating a dead horse. You don’t have enough life left to enlighten most of the Rush bashers. I have been a Herman Cain supporter since he ran for the Senate in the 1990’s but Rush is right. Herman jumped before he had all the facts and I don’t think he will do that again. Rush has been, and will continue to be, the biggest “influence” for Republicans. All the name-calling simply points out what type of mentality we are seeing from the Rush-bashers.

So, Conservatives (including myself) were pissed that Obama attempted to smooth things over with a beer summit with the Boston Police officer after putting his foot in his mouth and playing up the race card in the professors arrest…and now Cain attacks Perry for something he didn’t do and says he’s “insensitive” to blacks. Cain owes Perry an apology and once again is showing he’s not ready for prime time. I’m so sick of this racial bating crap and the fact that Cain jumped in…well, he lost my support. He’s a pander man who still hasn’t given any economists backing to his 9-9-9 plan and has ZERO experience in governing.
The Cain camp is on full attack of Perry and have bashed Perry…but this coming from Cain is unacceptable and shows he’s willing to use “race” as an edge. Pathetic. Those conservatives who support Cain just to prove that the Republican Party aren’t racists are no better than those who voted for Obama to prove they weren’t racists.
He supported TARP, has flip flopped on his religious panderings and now this. Cain needs to get out of the race and should quit playing the race card.

It is not only Democrats who resort to name calling. Republicans resort to the same tatics when they have no facts. That happens because we allow it. Just look at how many posts in this blog from both sides of the aisle that lack an intelligent argument. Don’t pretend like Republicans are angels in this regard because they are not.

@ florida guy – I’m with you except for this “However, in the budget showdown, I think [Obama] went a lot farther toward meeting somewhere in the middle than the republicans did.”
Obama missed endorsing the Simpson – Bowles proposal on deficit reduction, and screwed up a second time when he let Democrat Senators shoot down the “Grand Bargain” that was struck with Speaker Boehner. Most of the media has been predictably complicit in siding with the Democrats. This Op Ed in the liberal New York Times partially sums up where we are (omitting the “Grand Bargain” second mistake when Senate Democrats made Obama take it back):

Jones,,, Clinton gave you a balanced budget and Newt Gingrich gave you a soiled dress. I couldn’t care less about a president’s private life, unless that president is on vacation and ignores a memo that says “Bin Laden determined to strike in US.”
What!!! You might want to get your info from somebody besides Neil Boortz. Clinton was not convicted of perjury. The “hard working construction worker” is out of work, nothing hard working about that. She says “no victims” but in the earlier post blamed her job loss on “liberal mentality.”
2001-2006, when Cheney/Bush issued more executive orders and expanded the idea of the unitary executive, were the worst years in the history of the US. The country is still reeling from their failures. Darn right I blame Bush, it was his fault. His presidency was a complete and utter disaster.
And you’ve got 24/7 coast to coast TV and radio (including this Rush Limbaugh) pushing the idiot’s agenda. I feel sorry for anybody too stupid to know any better, you are victims and don’t even know it. Sounds like you’d rather be a construction worker than the graduate of an ivy league school, and that working construction is harder than graduating with honors from an ivy league school. Talk about misinformed.

Where are the accurate facts about this rock “sign”? Herman Cain was answering questions that the media person presented their version of the “facts” for him to respond. He should have made it clear that if those are the facts then this would be his opinion. If name calling was not allowed on this blog, how many responses would be remaining?

Ms. Jones, are you suggesting that the banksters who eagerly made imprudent mortgage loans, and then knowingly bundled and sold those loans with the aid of willing collaborators in the rating and insurance industries to unsuspecting buyers worldwide, were acting out of some sense of “the liberal mentality”? If so, and you cannot distinguish between greed and liberalism, then I suspect that the Republican Party claims at least one victim.

” He (Limbaugh) is one of the leaders that will take this country back to conservatism.”
He had better get in a hurry then. Since his radio show went national the voters have elected a Republican president for 8 years and Democratic presidents for 12 years.
Limbaugh has an audience of just over 20 million listeners. In the 2008 election over 129 million people voted. Limbaugh’s audience is less than 20% of that total. If Limbaugh is going to lead the “conservative cause” he will need to get it in gear.
Look folks, Limbaugh does not lead anything. Limbaugh is a shrewd businessman who is making a fortune in the entertainment business. And he is an accomplished entertainer. A great entertainer.
But as some have pointed out above he has not led the conservatives to a final solution on any conservative programs. Because that is not his goal, his reason for being in business. His reason for being is money. And he is currently operating under a $400 million contract.
There is no leader of the “conservative movement” at this time. The conservatives are split between the evangelicals, the tea party and the “traditionalist”. Obama will attempt to keep the wedges between those splits alive for the next year.
The Republicans this summer/fall have gone from Trump, Bachmann, Cain, Perry and now to Christie as the hot flavors of the month. But already, before he as announced anything, Christie has a third of the Party saying he is to liberal. Interesting that Romney, who has not been the “hot flavor” of the month, is still slightly ahead of the pack.
Republicans are searching. And Limbaugh is not leading. Limbaugh is entertaining.

Rush Limbaugh and Pat Robertson. Seriously, what does it say about the potential for independent thought when so many conservatives hang on their every word. It only matters what they think if you can’t think. Has anyone noticed that just like politicians, they earn a handsome living off saying what their followers want to hear? It therefore follows that to that extent they are biased …. something like a patent medicine salesman in the old West. They are captive to their followers and their followers are captive to them.

Once again, Rush has proven how much of an idiotic hypocrite he truly is. If the tables were turned and it was Obama’s retreat, with a rock that said Honky Head, Racist Rush would be raking the president over the coals, calling him a racist and a hater of whites. Oh, and Mr. Cain, I would not believe for a minute that he likes or “liked” you. Rush is a known bigot who has spewed racist remarks on his radio station for years.
