Paul Broun says he’ll sit out President Obama’s speech

Yahoo! News reports that U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, R-Athens, has joined other Republicans who intend to skip President Barack Obama’s Thursday speech on jobs before Congress:

“Dr. Broun will not be attending President Obama’s joint address, but he looks forward to hearing the president’s proposal for job creation,” Broun spokeswoman Meredith Griffanti [said]. “Dr. Broun will instead watch the speech from his office where he will host a live town hall via Twitter to interact with his constituents.”

Broun remained in his office during Obama’s State of the Union address in January, providing his own commentary on the social networking website throughout the speech.

Going out on a thin limb, but here’s a prediction: Broun, who in the past has painted Obama as either a fascist or socialist, won’t like what he hears.

td,

We all get it already. You’re pro-partisan posturing and anti-cooperation. GOT IT! Save yourself some words. As for the scheduling of the speech, uh… the President gave in to Boehner’s request to move it, so if you have a problem with that, it’s because you want to have a problem with it, and pretty much everything you say supports that observation. Enjoy the division you work so hard to foster! You’ve earned it, buddy.

findog – Moron is spelled “findog”. Go back and read up on who pushed it. Who endorsed it? Who said it was the only option? This was the end of Bush and he signed on to the plan that a Dem Congress pushed. Also keep in mind a large amount of the distribution of said bailout happened under Timmy Geithner’s watch. It might help to go back and read a little more on what actually happened than believe the spoon fed drivel you get from MSNBC.

Broun will probably do less damage if he fails to attend, at least not being present would prevent him from opening his mouth on camera and further embarrass both GA and his district. Of course, what else would be expected from the dimmest bulb in the House?

As for the repugs with nothing to say but hew to the mcconnel ‘one term’ line, when does the economic policy spawned under shrub and held to so firmly by the DN2 (do-nothing-House 2011 version) start to work for America? The economic activity graphs show a steady fall during the shrub years, an upturn in 2009, an intentional stall after DN2 takes power, and nothing but rhetorical nonsense as to what they want to stop/stall/dismantle/eviscerate/kill next (except for offshore military adventurism).

Republicans, your policies have failed abjectly at the National level since 2001 and at the GA level since 2003, put up or get out of the way.

This is soooo like the ReTeapubPartyians…. if you’re not saying what they want to hear (the total demise of country in favor of Big Corporate Interests), then they feel they can be disrespectful of the most important office in this country. Nitwits. So here’s my question, if you’re so against the government and believe in smaller government, then why the hell are ANY of you running for office? The Presidency is NOT where you make these “ideas” (and I use that term loosely), come to fruition.

Well said Barbarian. If Obama was really concerned why was this “plan” not released a month ago, a year ago, etc. It’s just more of the same, more spending and more debt. Want to get business off their wallet and spending and investing again? Do two things.
1. Adopt the Fair Tax
2. Repeal Obamacare
That’s all it would take to get growth and jobs created again.

I blame Bush for getting us into this mess. I blame the Republicans for allowing it to happen from 2000-2006. I blame Republicans for never owning up to their gross negligence. I blame Republicans for refusing to work with Obama from Day One. I blame Republicans for telling us that their old ways, which got us into this mess, will somehow magically restore us to greatness if they’re given the power.

To recap: you did this to us, you allowed it to perpetuate, you gave no time to fix it, and now you want another shot at it?

But all this snickering and whispering about how they got Obama by the balls will be short lived. Americans are sick and tired of the games the R’s are playing. Sorry but a rehashed “already failed” plan is not worth giving the time of day to. And if the $300 billion price tag is true as well as the leaked contents, this does nothing for the economy and only runs the debt up. Here’s the facts people – this is a crap plan designed for one purpose and one purpose only – Obama is throwing something out knowing ahead of time it will not succeed AND will not be approved in Congress. The whole design is to give the appearance that this is the GOP obstructing him. This is not a serious plan folks. It is a campaign ploy. But what will happen is the same liberals who get pious about the GOP playing games with people’s livelihoods will say nothing over the fact that Obama has surpassed anyone in the GOP on playing games with the economy. This whole speech is a campaign speech. This whole plan is simply to make the GOP out to be the bad guys and try to flip his poll numbers. It has nothing to do with jobs or helping the American people. Unfortunately, there are those who have no clue who will buy into it and Obama’s minions who will filter out recycling these talking points. We’ve seen those already on this board – in both categories – the naive ones and the parrots.

@Honested- Pelosi’s direct quote was ““We have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it” Now if the economy was so bad in 2009 because of George Bush, why did the Democrats use their super majority to pass a massive new regulation like Obamacare, without ever reading it mind you. How did that piece of legislation help to create private sector jobs.
@Independent voter- your use of sexually suggestive language is deplorable, is that the best you can do. It falls in line with the liberals SIN tactics for debate. S-Shift the subject, I- Ignore the facts, and N- Name call. If Obama is doing his best to fix the economy, why is his new economic advisor a professor, someone from academia, rather then someone from the business community? Who would do a better job advising on how to create jobs, a professor, who teaches about job creation, or a businessman who has actually created jobs. If Obama is trying so hard on fixing this economy, why didn’t he release this plan before he went on vacation? What about the budget he proposed that was so laughable, nobody in his own party voted for it.
UltraViolet- from 2001-2006 unemployment ranged from 4.2% in January of 2001 to 4.4% in December of 2006, with a peak of 6.3% in June of 2003. (Check the facts for yourself at the Bureau of Labor and Statistics). It wasn’t until after the Democrats took over in 2007 that unemployment began rising. I do blame Bush for not vetoing enough of the Democratic led Congresses legislation. That being said, the Democrats have held control over Congress during this economic downturn, with the exception of the House, which the Republicans took back this year. Now, while I disagree with the amount of increased spending that did take place under the Republicans from 2001-2006, we were better off under their policies. Oh and don’t start with excuses like, but Obama had to deal with the Arab spring and the Japanese tsunami. If you recall, Bush had 9/11 and the economic impacts of Hurricane Katrina, and we were still better off. Next up?
GABlue: You ready for examples of disrespect towards Bush.
First up: In 2004, Democrats delivered a “Chorus Of Boos” during Bush’s Bush’s State Of The Union when he called for renewal of the Patriot Act., according to the Washington Times.
Next: In 2005, Dems howled, hissed and shouted “No!” when Bush pushed for Social Security reform in the SOU: “Foreshadowing the contentiousness of the coming debate, Democrats broke decorum and booed twice,” according to the National Journal.
What about your precious Obama, who decided to go to dinner moments before Bush gave his farewell speech. As President Elect, it is considered respectful to attend the farewell speech of the departing President.
Sounds pretty disrespectful to me. But what’s more disrespectful is Obama’s failure to follow Congressional protocol. He is to request the opportunity to speak at a joint session of Congress, at a time that is mutually convenient for both the Congress and the President. Instead, he demanded there presence on a date and time set by him.
Now to more personally beliefs, this type of speech does not warrant a joint session of Congress. Those should be reserved for Speeches like the State of the Union Address. Bush made a speech to a joint session of Congress after 9/11, for example. However, the use of a joint session to release individual policy plans is unnecessary. Instead, Obama could have released an actual written plan. In fact, I bring up the question again, if jobs are so important to him, why hasn’t he released an actual plan already. Perhaps he could have done that prior to vacationing, or prior to his latest round of golf. There is no need for any Representative to attend because the truth his, Obama will not be giving any new ideas. He is going to use this as a grandstanding campaign speech. This will be just like his so called budget plan. A plan that was so vague that the CBO rejected it saying “We can’t score Obama’s budget plan because it’s just a speech.”
