Warning: Harvard says Fourth of July parades could turn your kids Republican

Beware: If you go to a Fourth of July celebration on Monday, your kids are statistically more likely to end up Republican.

Harvard University says so. From the press release:

Attending one Fourth of July before age 18 increases the likelihood of identifying as a Republican by at least 2 percent and voting for the Republican candidate by 4 percent. It also increases voter turnout by 0.9 percent and boosts political campaign contributions by 3 percent.

Read the real, honest-to-God study here. This was the key to their methodology:

In their paper, the researchers use a simple but novel strategy to address these problems: they use historical data on rainfall on Fourth of July. When it rains children and their parents are less likely to participate and the events are often cancelled.

Moreover, since rain is a random event, some children growing up experience nice weather and are more likely to celebrate, while others are hit by bad weather making it less likely that they join the festivities. This allows the researchers to isolate the effect of attending the celebrations from other important factors such as family background and education.

This is true. I always see knock down, drag-out fights in front of gay bars… It’s like an epidemic of hostile, chiffon spewing, drugged up queens hitting each other with furniture and decorations. Is this guy insane? I get it that gays will get violent and angry…You think? The people that go to the gym everyday and are oppressed minorities? You THINK they might get a little violent when pushed? On another note: I have seen more than a few lesbians fight in front of bars, one in which 5 Atlanta police officers, 4 firefighters and multiple ambulances were stuck in the middle of a violent argument in which women were throwing beer bottles at the cops and escalating in to beating on the cops. I know what they were afraid of at the Eagle…They were afraid they might like it, if the guys got a little violent…. The should be so lucky, I suppose. What a bunch of PANSIES, the APD.

In other more important news, Mr. Galloway:

How is it that the state is so cash-strapped that it has to slash the salary and staff of Ms. Kalbermann at the “ethics” commission (all while she was trying to subpoena the Deal administration), and yet today they decide they have so much money that they’ll hire a Deal insider with no mental health experience as the mental health ombudsman, pay her twice what she used to make as a SCHEDULER (or in other words, glorified secretary), pay her $25K MORE than her predecessor in the position (making for a six-figure salary), and completely ignore the hiring policy for the position in the process?

Deal. Real. Corrupt.

I am also wondering whether Mr. Galloway will address this very pertinent tidbit on state-level corruption. Governor Shady has wasted no time in showing us how corrupt he can be.

Give me a break! I seriously doubt that my child (who is under the age of 18) becomes a Republican by attending a 4th of July parade! Puuleeze…give me a break!

I know this study is accurate!! Yes, if you bring your kids to a 4th of July parade, the children will be GOP. But there’s more to this. If you let your child see a cop moonwalking, then there’s a 20% likelyhood that the kid will turn out to be a truant and a drop out. Similarly, if’n U let your kid see a meter maid boot a tire, then there’s a 50% likelyhood that the kid will engage in a booty call in college.

Then, of course, if’n U let your brat see a delegate to the democratic convention shoot a six pack of beer (don’t ask) then there’s a 100% likelyhood that your kid will be part of a wet tshirt contest on Utube whether your child is a boy or a girl.

I know, the data is alarming, but I can only print what actually gets polled.

Fourth of July parades are dangerous. These parades have been known to cause feelings of pride in America, patriotism and an appreciation for those who have served and sacrificed for our freedom. Prayers (gasp!) have been used at these events asking God’s blessing and thanking Him for America’s freedon and the unalienable rights of Americans.

Yes, the Fourth of July is definitely a Republican event.

Democrats celebrate the holiday by attending various labor union, civil rights, ACLU, pro-abortion, anti-gun, pro-illegal alien amnesty and re-elect Obama meetings.

Need to call BS on all this. THe 4th is an American event – USA and the USA has labor unions, people who advocate for all kinds of things – good and bad depending on how you see it, people who support the person who is our President even when they don’t like him, people who would rather see the country fail instead their faction (read ‘party’), people who aren’t Christian, people who are; people who vote and people who don’t; people who would like for government to be part of the solution and people who want government to “butt out”; and yes Republicans and Democrats. SO folks, if you love America, love it all even if you don’t like some of it, because if you want to hate any part of it, you risk losing it all.

I love the 4th of July parade, but if it makes me do stupid things then I don’t know. Stupid things like being the only state in the union to reject the revision to the 55 year old interstate compact relating to juvenile justice – so that we don’t become runaway central. See for yourself.

Fourth of July parades happen once a year. Church happens once or twice a week, at least. Taking children to either, simply as a matter of course and without articulating why those things are of personal significance, is negligent parenting, because it teaches children to become part of the problem by emphasizing conformism over individualism. Our Founders would be very disappointed to find that this is the norm.

If you believe that this country is the best country on Earth, that has ever existed, and despite our problems, that is patriotism. I don’t think it is unique to Republicans or Democrats or Independents, but there is a key that one must realize that the reason this country is so great is the freedom that has been codified into law. We aren’t best because of our government, there are better run ones out there. We aren’t best because of our capitalism, there are countries out there that do that better too. But no country on Earth approaches our level of freedom, and we must fight vigorously to keep it that way, against forces on both ends of the political spectrum that threaten to erode away those freedoms!

Skeptic of Research

I’m always skeptical of research that attempts to ascribe cause and effect relationships to two variables. Although I don’t doubt the finding that there is a fairly weak correlation between Republicanism and going to 4th of July parades, I would have to study the research carefully to accept the conclusion that going to these parades is a cause of a child becoming a Republican. And frankly, I don’t care enough to make the effort. But it seems more likely to me that all that the reseachers have discovered is that slightly more( after all, the difference is only 2 – 4%) Republican families attend these parades than Democratic ones. And, although less true than in the past, your mother’s and father’s political affiliation is still a strong indicator of how you will vote.

It takes a college educated liberal socialist to realize that attending Independence Day parades will encourage youth to become patriotic, and thus maybe support Republicans’ values. Does it take a genius to figure out celebrating Independence Day is a patriotic act remembering the moral and ethical values of our Christian forefathers? Isn’t it obvious that anyone opposed to our freedoms of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness would be offended by a national holiday celebrating the birth of such a nation? Liberals are suddenly scared of the sacred history of the United States of America that they are even attacking the patriotism surrounding Independence Day festivities like parades and fireworks. Can we tell little Johnny that some bad men don’t want him going to see our flag pass by held by a veteran, big school bands playing a little Chicago, floats covered with symbols of freedom and lastly going to see some amazing fireworks? Can we tell little Johnny some big bad men don’t think he should go see the Boston Pops playing the 1812 Overture while cannons and fireworks explode on the banks of the River Charles because… it is TOO patriotic? Bad men… Johnny, BAD MEN!

It figures this is a “Harvard study” — not a lot of credibility here… I hope the study is “right” — anyone who votes for a Democrat must like illegals, socialism and the most poorly run government! I say this as a former (reformed) Democratic voter, a “blue dog” Democrat. There is no such thing as a “moderate” Democrat. The far leftist radicals have hijacked that party. The GOP needs to get rid of the RINO’s (Republican in name only), but I’ll take a RINO anyday over a “moderate” Democrat. When push comes to shove, they always tow the party line. Remember that “Independents” who “vote the person, not the party” like I used to.

Interesting. As an individual that makes his living from the sales of rain insurance and other event related insurance coverage, the risk that one may be influenced has not been addressed. Perhaps there is a new line of insurance to be sold here.

Concerned, left-leaning parents, could purchase right-wing insurance for their tots that usher in thoughts of filling bags of patriotically-wrapped Tootsie Rolls but unknowingly are being shaped politically. Or perhaps parent sending their newly graduated 18-year-olds off to college could buy a lefty protection policy (premiums would have to be increased for those attending UC-Berkely or the University of Wisconsin – Madison!).

OK, my tongue is firmly in cheek. Just having fun with my morning coffee.
