Herman Cain: Barack Obama’s not a ‘strong black man’ like MLK

In this Sunday’s New York Times Magazine, Georgia businessman and GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain said he wasn’t questioning President Barack Obama’s racial authenticity when he declare that liberals are afraid “a real black man might run against Barack Obama.” From the Q&A:

Cain: A real black man is not timid about making the right decisions, that’s what I meant. Look, I’m not getting into this whole thing about President Obama. It is documented that his mother was white and his father was from Africa. If he wants to call himself black, fine. If he wants to call himself African-American, fine. I’m not going down this color road.

NYT: But you’re saying he’s not really a black man.

Cain: Not in terms of a strong black man that I’m identifying with. I identify with a strong black man like Martin Luther King Jr., or my dad, Luther Cain Jr., who didn’t have a lot of formal education, but he had a Ph.D. in common sense.

If you want Cain to expound on the topic, he’s celebrating Social Media Day by hosting a 6 p.m. “meet-up” at Perimeter Hotel and Suites, 11 Perimeter Center West, in Dunwoody.

It seems like Mr. Cain is floating on a cloud of godfather’s pizza. Instead of focusing on Obama’s manhood, maybe he should concentrate on the economy and the pessimism in this country. If it weren’t for men like MLK you my dear Herman Cain wouldn’t have a voice at all. Who are you to decide that the President of the U.S. is not a strong black man. With all the abuse that has been heap on him (some with just cause) I can concur that a weaker man would have faltered long ago. Why don’t we stop with the I more masculine than you rhetoric and get to the issues at hand. Because you sound like a little girl who’s having a tantrum. There are many things you can say about presidential candidates, but we can all agree it takes a strong man or woman to run for the highest office in the land.

Well, you can say what you will, but so far, I don’t see anyone who can beat Bam in ‘12.

The Republican/Tea Party is involved in the game of one-upmanship — trying to see who can be the most provocative — who can say the weirdest, most outrageous thing.

Who can make the news with the best talking point of the day.

There’s not a candidate running for the Republican/Tea Party that has a clue about how to handle this mess — a mess created by both sides of the aisle. It’s the same ol’ song about reducing taxes, cutting regulations, freeing up business to do business, bringing jobs home and it’s nothing but horse hockey!

When will the Bush Tax Cuts kick in? It’s been nearly nine freakin’ years.

You guys are impotent. You’re bereft of ideas, but want one thing and that’s the power back. And, the last time you had the power you blew it, so you’re going to have to want for your turn again and it ain’t gonna be 2012.

“a president who may not be perfect, but is not an embarrassment”

You are absolutely correct that this will be the strategy of the Democratic party and if they get away with it then Obama may be re elected. History shows that a second term of a President is usually a referendum on what the person did during their first term (remember Clinton “its all about the economy stupid”) but the Dems know if they run Obama on his record he loses. They are already using their liberal media friends to try to bash any potential conservative candidate so that the moderate will be the only one left standing.

It will be interesting to see who’s message will get out the best. Sort of the same strategy Barnes used against Deal.

You obviously are one ignorant person when it comes to electing or backing up liberal ideas. For one, the only people who even have a clue about how to fix the financial mess is the republicans. See what you dont get is that by shoving all of this money into social programs that truly dont benefit the country, it creates further mess in the future. What it then will ultimately create is a drive to do nothing in this country. You just want to keep handing out money here and there to people who dont want to better themselves off, because you created a way for them to accept their choices in life. With no drive, there comes a wave of mediocrity. Who wants to live in a country where there is no strive to better off yourself….? Not me.

Republicans made it clear that their primary objective, the reason they were returned to power, was to make sure Barack Obama was a 1 term President. So don’t expect too much action out of congress because if they take action and it works, people might credit the President. But if they stall and let ol BO flail around helplessly as conditions for the average American grow steadily more grave, they could run go-go the gorilla and the snuffilupicus in 2012 and they will win. Don’t kid yourselves people. The unvarnished truth is that NEITHER party has your best interests at heart, they could care less. It is all about POWER getting it and keeping it as long as you can. The two biggest threats to the freedom you wish to enjoy are the GOP and the DNC. And until you sheep realize that nothing will change. You ever wonder why Presidents have term limits but congressmen do not? And yet you keep sending the same impotent cast of characters to Washington every 2 and 4 years. Fat ass, lazy, corrupt, ignorant, money-grubbing, imbeciles, who can’t effectively run their own lives much less the lives of 307 million Americans. Every now and again you get your feathers ruffled and you will send up some doe-eyed naive idealist. 10 seconds after he has moved into his office the infection starts. Lobbyist, special interest, oil, commerce, all looking to buy their own little piece of you. The idealist are assimilated or neutered by the machine that you all created. Barack Obama is a useless president because he will never be allowed to do anything. And if someone at the GOP could have stopped the Bin Laden hit, they would have. We are at the point of critical mass in this 235 year experiment called America. And right now things don’t look very good.

What's the Matter with Georgia

June 30th, 2011
6:08 pm

This excerpt from today’s AJC opinion page shows why Cain’s politics don’t work. In just 8 years of his brand of governance, the incomes of GEORGIA’s PEOPLE fell from just out of the top 20% to just short of the bottom 10% of the rest of the country.
“Georgia has become a haven for low-wage jobs and unemployment. In 1999, Georgia ranked 21st in per capita income. In 1979, we ranked 35th. However, by 2009 we had sunk to 39th place, sending the state backward.

Our closest competitors for low-paying jobs are Vietnam and Bangladesh. Since 2002, Republican leadership has failed to make the necessary investments in public infrastructure such as education, transportation and quality-of-life projects. These factors are the key elements that attract businesses and spark job creation.

Similarly, House and Senate Republicans have not prioritized investment in k-12 education. Our ranking of near-dead last in education funding in the nation proves this out.”
Rep Doug Stoner

What's the Matter with Georgia

June 30th, 2011
6:15 pm

So, to summarize: from Joe Frank Harris through Roy Barnes and with Tom Murphy as Speaker GA rose from 35th in per capita income to 21st. (79-99) Since then, per capita income in GA fell from 21st to 39th (99-09). Even a high school grad from a state that is “near dead last in education funding” can do the math on this one.

If Obama were strong he would have put the U.S. on a path to prosperity by now. If he were strong the real unemployment rate of 17% would have been halved. If he were strong he would know that ATMs don’t cause unemployment and that the year isn’t 2008. He would know that corporate jets and hedge fund managers aren’t the cause of our budget deficit but that Obama’s reckless spending is the cause of our accumulating an additional $3.5 trillion debt in just over 2 years. And he would certainly know the age of his daughters. If Obama were strong he would have regarded his fellow Americans as strong and would not have wrecked their economic and healthcare systems in an effort to make them weak and dependent on government. And if he were strong he would have stopped Iran from building nuclear weapons and the delivery systems to carry them across continents. Finally, if he were strong he would not have chosen the weakest, most inept, most buffoon-like man for his vice president. Joe Biden was the only person weaker than Obama from a real-world experience standpoint and the president couldn’t stand having a VP who was smarter than him. In that lone effort, President Obama succeeded.

By contrast, Herman Cain is a successful, experienced, God-fearing man. Those three things alone bring out the secular, hateful, anti-America Left. Not one of you could discredit his ideas or his approach to getting things done. So you resort to name-calling and cheap shots. It is you people who are the scum American left who are responsible for the sorry state we are in. You have even invented a name for it: The New Normal. @Terd: A year is a life-time in politics — time for the economy to turn and time for the Republican/Tea Party candidates to show how inept and how clueless they really are.

What it’s going to come down to is selecting between a known quantity — a president who may not be perfect, but is not an embarrassment — and a candidate that suffers from chonic hoof n’ mouth disease and who can’t discern between Libya and Lickskillet.

Spoken like a true liberal. Vote Obama because he is not an embarassment. Yeah, the whole world laughs at how weak this clown is and you liberals think he is respected. God, is it a prerequisite to be ignorant to have a liberal mind? I do believe it is. Pleanty of posts on here today to prove the theory.

Talk to the hand.

Obama, whatever his genetic creds, appeals to Caucasians because he’s smart, poised and articulate. He doesn’t act black, in fact he almost never mentions race. There aren’t nearly enough blacks to elect him on their own. As someone already noted, he is the President because large numbers of white voters support him. Anyone who doesn’t understand that is dreaming

Uh, Doug, check the latest polls. Whites, women, and the all important independents are leaving this guy like he has herpes. As far as being articulate? Yes, he speaks very clearly and sounds very intelligent. Anyone can do that when they have a teleprompter with them 24/7. The guy is one of the weakest leaders since Georgia’s finest, ol’ peanuthead Carter. In fact, he has an economy worse then Carter did and it will take a Republican to fix it like Reagan had to. Ooooo, I sense you liberals steaming from here.

No, it is much more fun to have a non-leader who is more interested in a round of golf and can not remember his own kids age because he is to busy campaigning every waking minute of the day instead of leading our country. Yeah, that is much better then two men who are decisive in their decision making. You are truly a libtard.

@Terd: There are around 350 million people in this country and the best program Fox offers is O’Reilly and he gets 2.3 million or .006 percent of the population.

Now that’s pretty good I suppose for a TV channel, but in the world of national politics hardly a number that turns the tide of American history.

A year is a lifetime in politics and the Republican/Tea Party is writing a premature obituary for Bam.

Do you Southerners realize that the people from DC think you are idiots?
Guess not.
You think they give one sheet about you?
They don’t.
I lived and worked on BOTH coasts of this country, and people from Atlanta are considered idiotic rednecks–by both coasts.
You can think you’re “all that” all you want to.
The elites from both parties think you are dumb asses.

I know better, but you should realize how much the “coasts” hate you.
Wake up, Atlanta!

I doubt if Cain’s attempts to define a “real black man” are working to win the AA vote.

Also, when you invoke “Amos ‘n’ Andy,” as Cain did a few days back, it only has racial connotations for those old enough to remember. To everyone else, it only makes you look old.

Hussein Obama is not a strong black man, period. “The man” is weak. “He” cannot make firm decisions on anything with the economy or foreign relations. This installed president is a spineless jellyfish who will thankfully be a blip in the once-free nation’s history. This nightmare will come to a close when President Cain will be democratically elected and rightfully inaugurated. Compared to Herman Cain, Lil Hussein is a scared little girl.

I just get so steamed when I see those ratings for Fox News. Every time I go visit my parents in the old folks home I see Fox News on the TV in every activity room in the home. You have at least a dozen viewers in each room that can’t remember what they had for lunch sitting there watching O’Reilly and Hannity. It just makes my blood boil knowing that Rachel Maddow only gets 900K viewers that actually understand what she’s talking about versus O’Reilly’s 2.3 Million viewers with dementia. It’s just not fair and balanced!

The irony of Herman Cain, and the rest of the Republican Party for that matter, is about as thick as concrete. He, and they, go after Obama for ‘not being a leader’, or ‘not being a strong black man’, when the irony is any lack of ‘leadership’ or ’strength’ is based on his not going after Republicans hard enough, and before now, for their deceit, obstructionism, greed and prejudice – and, in fact, gutting them for it. Schumer was the first, since Alan Grayson left office, that called a ’spade a spade’ when he said that the Repugs were willing to take the economy even deeper into this hole if it meant they might be able to win more seats come next year – and maybe even the WH. Well be careful Repugs, it won’t be so easy to get away with that strategy, the Dems will hang that dead skunk around your neck and see to it that you stink for the next generation…be careful what you wish for.

By they way Herman, maybe what Obama’s doing is his version of the ‘rope-a-dope’…I just hope he’s ropin’ the right dopes…you’re easy, some of the others might not be. After all, you don’t really think the Republican ‘base’ supporters would actually vote for a black man, do you? Oh they might parade you around, like the guy they put in charge of their Party apparatus for a while, then ran him off as soon as the coast was clear to do so, but actually vote for you? Man you need to have been listening to Boortz’s callers a little more – they hate you and only tolerate you because, like the juxtaposition of an incongruity, it draws attention.

Straight up Cain. We are not interested in what you think of Obama…Jesus Christ, Budha, or Mohammed. We are not interested in how good a Christian you think you are.

We want to know if YOU have what it takes to confront the doctors, health insurance companies and the drug companies…who have ruined health care in this country. Do you have what it takes to challenge the banks, oil companies and wall street? Do you have what it takes to create a climate in this country where the laws of supply and demand once again rule? Can you get government out of our lives?…a goal traditional Republicans once worked for.

Stop talking about it..be about it. Show us what you are made of. I seriously doubt that you have the courage.

Why would anyone waste their time debating a stupid, retarded, Bush loving, Retard-Ronald Reagan loving, Republican? These are the same folks that worship and pray for their pedophile priests, who molest their kids, but would pass a starving human on the streets without helping. These are the same people that would pull the plug on their dying mother, father, brother, sister, wife, or husband, just to collect the insurance money. Republicans are the SCUM of the earth! It amazes me the number of white people who don’t have a “pot to piss in”, that still call themselves Republicans. You do it just to feel like you belong to a group. Yet you fail to realize that when what’s left of the middle class, you, too, will be left out in the cold. Republican are a bunch of pathetic, non-thinkers, who get ALL of their info and ideas from idiots on talk radio. If your talk radio heroes were so smart, why don’t they have the courage to run for office themselves? Sean-the-molester-hannity wrote the debates for McCan’t and Failin-Palin, and they still lost. Republicans are a total joke! You have ZERO chance of wining in 2012! Republicans are, once again… the SCUM of the earth, that the entire world hates! That’s why we seldom get attacked when Democrats are in office, you Republican Scumbags!!!

A brand of socialism that is often overlooked demands that people feel that authorities should be followed and as a result of this submission, all manner of social regulation is accepted (read: dramatic increase in criminalization of conduct, reduction in civil liberties – justified intrusion into the lives of citizens.) Submission to authorities, and government aggression towards those who do not conform is buttressed by disingenuous promotion of established traditions. This social authoritarianism usually masks an elitism that is without concern for the general public, but is designed to reward only a small elite class. Prejudice underlies this form of social construct.

“Hello, economic growth?”

Let’s look at the fact checked comment that ran yesterday, “The ‘Bush tax cuts,’ passed in 2001 and 2003, remain the single largest cause of America’s structural deficit — that is, the deficit not caused by the collapse in tax revenue when the economy goes into recession” F Zakaria

poo poo’d by some the following appears from the editors of truthsquad -
We find this quote to be true. The analysis by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities relies upon numbers provided by the Congressional Budget Office, which are generally accurate and undisputed. Some of our reviewers question these numbers because they don’t include estimates of additional income that may have been generated by the tax cuts when people spent that income on other items. However, when we measure other items that contribute to the national debt, such as the wars which also create spending that is then taxed, we don’t include a similar qualification, mainly because those numbers are soft estimates prone to manipulation. — Kelly McBride on behalf of the TruthSquad Editors
