The legal war over Georgia’s new illegal immigration law begins today.
The lawsuit by the ACLU and other civil rights groups will be released this afternoon, but a few details are already leaking out:
– Much of the draft is the work of Keegan Federal, the former DeKalb County Superior Court judge;
– One of the main components is the allegation that the law will result in racial profiling, which should surprise no one. The filing will include this line: “All Georgians, and particularly those of color, will be compelled to carry additional paperwork on them prescribed by the State of Georgia at all times.”
– The lawsuit alleges that, even though the new law doesn’t go into effect until July 1, individuals are already being stopped by law enforcement officials, based on their appearance and ability to speak English.
– The suit will also focus on the new law’s ban on transporting or harboring illegal immigrants, arguing that the statute will expose legal residents of Georgia to criminal prosecution for acts of kindness.
In addition to the civil rights organizations, parties to the suit will include aTeamster official who says he regularly transports undocumented students, offers rides to undocumented day laborers to and from work sites, and drives undocumented individuals to church in his union-issued, 12-passenger van.
Then there’s the retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, now the leader of a multi-denominational group that serves 100 families, including illegal immigrants, offering English language classes, food coupons and direct aid.
Meanwhile, Georgia Public Broadcasting has this:
With a month to go before Georgia’s new immigration law goes into effect, training is underway for police officers, sheriff’s deputies, and others on its details.
An annual workshop on law enforcement issues brought together more than 70 people Wednesday on the campus of Columbus State University.

It doesn’t look like a heart attack will keep state Rep. David Lucas, D-Macon, out of a race to replace state Sen. Robert Brown. He was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, according to Macon Telegraph:
[Lucas] went to the hospital Sunday evening after suffering symptoms of heat exhaustion at the Soul Jam Fest at Henderson Stadium.
Doctors discovered he was having a heart attack when they examined him.
[His wife] Elaine Lucas said doctors performed surgery, removing two blockages and putting in two stents during the procedure.
She said Lucas has been told by doctors to rest.
He’s also been told to get more exercise and change his eating habits, she said….Elaine Lucas said her husband plans on returning to the campaign trail next week.

Many Republicans have speculated that President Barack Obama’s call for Israel to accept its 1967 borders as a rough starting point for peace negotiations with Palestinians will send Jewish voters in the U.S. rushing into the arms of the GOP.
This morning, Larry Sabato of the University of Virginia offers a concise refutation. From his Crystal Ball:
First, similar concerns voiced by political opponents about Obama’s support for Israel had little impact on Jewish voters in 2008; second, Jewish loyalty to the Democratic Party appears to be based primarily on the liberal views of most Jewish voters on domestic policy issues, especially on social issues; and third, the influence of religious conservatives and Tea Party supporters on the Republican Party remains a major obstacle to the GOP in attracting support from Jewish voters.

Judge Federal (how apt!) allegedly writes “All Georgians, and particularly those of color, will be compelled to carry additional paperwork on them prescribed by the State of Georgia at all times.”
Uh… aren’t we all some color or other? I have yet to encounter a “clear” Georgian. There are some, of course, that one can see clear through, but that’s a different metric. So, therefore, if ALL Georgians are required to carry this “paperwork” how do you make the case that this is racial profiling?
My attitude has always been that we are all of one “race,” that being the “human race.” Skin tone is just a matter of shading, not race. Of course, I could be wrong…

Well, if these “acts of kindness” are contributing to causing damage to the health of our communities and economy by fostering ILLEGAL immigration, then 1) maybe they’re not really “kindness” to the common good, and 2) how cares if it is a nun, truck driver, or employer. ALL are assisting in damaging this country!

Jewish American != Israeli. Republicans have been dreaming for decades of capturing the Jewish vote in the US by sucking up to Israel and it hasn’t worked. There’s something about the Republicans autocratic nature that most Jewish people don’t find appealing. Until that changes, they can dump the entire US Treasury on Israel and it won’t significantly change Jewish voting patterns here.

I know a woman that is married to an illegal, and married him knowing full well what she was doing. Here is the kicker… his family is also here illegally and has been for years. They run a mechanics shop here in Marietta, and obtain licenses by getting fake ID’s and submitting false information to receive them. ALSO, the initial husbands sister has had three kids here in Georgia and has not paid one cent for having those children. My wife and I have paid over $4,000 with insurance helping some on our daughter born last year. Does that seem fair to any of y’all? Safe to say this family with be targeted for deportation from me once these news laws go into affect, and the girl that works with my wife will be justified as well. And icing on the cake is that the woman admits that her husband drives around with no license and insurance, so debate that all you want.

“Being an illegal immigrant is NOT a crime!” A liberal air-head Member of Congress from Florida has even said so, and she should know. (Jewish, I’m afraid to say, by the way). Anyway, this person-of white (i.e., me) carries a legal ID on him at all times, because I don’t want to get in trouble with the law. It is called a valid Georgia State Driving license. And guess what? I also possess a US Government issued passport! And I can produce a New York State Birth Certificate, given 24hours warning! Pathetic whiners every one of them!

I truly wonder what world people that are filing lawsuits live in? Have any of them traveled overseas on their own and seen what other countries do with the influx of people? They check papers. Each and every time I have traveled overseas, I have been asked on the streets by the police to prove I am there legally. It is not just at immigration upoin arrival, it is on the streets in tourist areas and in areas where tourists do not frequent. Other countries check papers. Why is it hard to grasp that we need to here, too? Our sovereignty and our status in the world is not going to be degraded due to asking for proof of identity and legality of the people entering our country. Most all countries of the world require per their immigration laws that non-citizens carry valid proof of identity at all times.

Jack,
Ignorance is always followed up by some kind of experience. If Latin people would have done the right thing initially and not taken advantage of the system, America, and its citizens, there wouldn’t be a problem. There would be no situation if our country wasn’t being drained by this situation and the people taking full advantage of it without giving anything in return. And I have no problem carrying around another form of ID if it solves this problem. Make whites, blacks, Mexicans, Europeans, Australians, red, blue, and pink people all carry them if fairness is the issue.

I agree on the color issue, we are all different shades of brown. Our coloration is determined by where our ancestors, for the most part, were raised, as well as our parent’s coloration. As far as “acts of kindness” are concerned, to my knowledge, it has always been illegal to harbor fugitives from the law, whether those fugitives are illegal aliens or convicted/suspected felons. There is a legal and structured path to becoming a U.S. citizen, and whomever was responsible in the 1960’s for formulating the “anchor babies” law, attaching citizenship simply because you are born here, should be taken out to the woodshed. What a waste of resources! I understand the desire to be here – it’s a great place to live and raise a family – but there are rules and regulations for this process, and thousands of immigrants each year labor through the process just to be here legally. What this must seem to them must be so confusing and frustrating. I have no problem with profiling based on visual and verbal interaction to determine someone’s legal status. We do not need more laws, we simply need better enforcement of existing laws to keep the system working the way it should.

Vidalia onions are planted in the fall and are harvested in May and June by workers following a tractor-pulled harrow that cuts the onions from the roots and loosens the ground. Workers pull the onions out of the ground, clip the stems and the roots, and then put them in 50-pound burlap bags.

I do believe that the majority of writers on this forum and US citizens in general do not have a problem with a “guest-worker” program for agricultural or service-industry workers. Get here legally, that is the problem most Americans have with the influx of foreign nationals. Get here legal, no problem.
It is a drain on our government services. Governor Deal and the State of GA quoted some numbers that I find startling….$2-billion annually in GA to educate, give medical care and incarcerate illegal immigrants. Get here legally and US citizens will not be angry about the monies spent on illegals. If the law is wrong, garner enough votes to get it changed. That is the process in America.

Contractor you got it right. Illegals galore in this complex I live in. Laugh about them babies they pop out every nine months to a year not costing them a dime in medical or hospital bills; come out of the hospital already signed up for WIC vouchers, not having to show any documentation. Go in Kroger at Embry Hills on Chamblee Tucker Road on any given Monday morning and you see them in line with five and six kids under six, spending their WIC vouchers for the week. They get their formula free cause remember the newborn already has vouchers too. With all they can get with those vouchers, the whole family is eating it and drinking the milk, you can bet on that. And the most a Senior citizen living alone who worked all their life and paid taxes can get in food stamps is $19 and most don’t get that much. One of the illegals had the nerve to tell me “you need to go back where you came from.” My reply – I came from right here in the USA, born and raised here, and paid taxes for over 50 years so I think I’m where I belong but you sure aren’t. Another one who has two kids in middle school who speak English had them tell me that I needed to learn Spanish so I could converse with her – I told them to tell her – no you need to learn English so you can converse with me. Maybe this new law will get them back to where they came from.

Hey James:
Most arguments against illegal immigration begin with the premise that the undocumented don’t pay income taxes, and that they therefore take more in services than they contribute. However, IRS estimates that about 6 million unauthorized immigrants file individual income tax returns each year. Research reviewed by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office indicates that between 50 percent and 75 percent of unauthorized immigrants pay federal, state, and local taxes. Illegal immigrants are estimated to pay in about $7 billion per year into Social Security. (Wikipedia)
When you look at corporate America and realize that those corporations that influence and own our elected officials pay little if any taxes and receive massive subsidies… seems to me that you are mad at the wrong people. Of course the corporations have no skin tone… so that may explain your hostility.

The ACLU and most civil rights groups are always going to try to turn everything into a racial issue. It is true that most “legals” (black or white) had rather sit at home drawing off of the rest of us than work in a stinky chicken processing plant or such. The problems that I do have with illegals of any “race” is that if you are going to live here in America, you need to pay taxes like everyone else. You also need to be totally responsible for paying for your healthcare if you use American hospitals, clinics, physicians, etc. No free rides or draining our state Medicaid programs for you and your kids. Just saying-you work, you pay your way.

LAWRENCEVILLE — Lawrenceville resident Zeljko Zekic, 48, pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court to lying to federal immigration officials about his place of residence and employment during the Bosnian War of 1992 to 1995.
Specifically, Zekic claimed on his immigration paperwork that he was unemployed and living in the Serbian Republic when in fact he was living in a Serbian-controlled town inside Bosnia and was an active-duty member of the Serbian paramilitary police during the period of armed conflict, according to a news release.
“This man, who was part of the paramilitary apparatus controlled by recently captured war criminal Ratko Mladic, twice misled federal immigration officials into believing that he was only a refugee of the struggles that tore Bosnia and Herzegovina apart, rather than a member of the group that has been identified as a very substantial part of that war,” U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said.
Zekic and his family applied for refugee access to the United States in 2002. Partly on the basis of the fraudulent forms, the family’s application was approved, and Zekic moved to the United States, eventually settling in Lawrenceville, the news release states. Zekic ultimately received a green card and is now a permanent resident alien.
Subsequent research by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Human Rights Violators and War Crimes Unit revealed that Zekic had lied about his job and his residence during the Bosnian War.
At the time Zekic applied for refugee status, all adult male Serbs who had lived in Bosnia at the time of Bosnian War were subject to additional questioning concerning any possible connection to Republic of Serbia Army units that committed war-time atrocities in Srebrenica and elsewhere, the news release states.

ACTS OF KINDNESS ILLEGAL?
As a higher education professional who works directly with students, some undocumented, I will proudly transport students as they further their educational pursuits if needed. Laws may come and go, but I will always err on the side of human dignity. These “aliens” are people with names and dreams. These students have given me an opportunity to see exactly what the American dream means. If everyone took their education as seriously as these students do we would have a very different higher education system in the state of Georgia.
Not only would I be happy to be given a ticket for this, or even arrested, I would frame the documentation to give to my niece and nephew as proof that I tried to make a difference.
People are showing their ignorance by not examining all sides of this issue. Do I have the answers to the problem? Not at all. But I’m willing to educate myself and to treat people from all walks of life as I would want my family to be treated. I challenge anyone to sit and have at least one conversation with a person who is undocumented. After hearing their story if you can then tell them to their face that they are an illegal alien and should be shipped out of the country, you have no compassion for others. I’m just glad I don’t have to live or behave with that type of fear and hatred.

And for those of you complaining about “who’s gonna pick the vegetables” and what not, here’s an idea, maybe the farmers can actually pay a living wage and get legal workers to work on their farms, instead of scamming illegal immigrants into working on the farms basically like slaves. .And even though he was cleared of those slayings within two days of his arrest, Cardenas-Rico’s troubles are far from over. He is scheduled to be deported to Mexico within 60 days, his immigration lawyer said Wednesday.
Cardenas-Rico, 27, remained in the Gwinnett County jail for three months after he was exonerated of the homicides on Feb. 12 because he had marijuana in the home where he was staying when he was arrested. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which partners with the county Sheriff’s Office to identify all illegal immigrants booked into the jail as part of a federal program known as 287(g), also placed a hold on Cardenas-Rico upon determining he was in the country illegally.
Cardenas-Rico pleaded guilty May 6 to felony possession of marijuana and was sentenced to 10 years of probation. He was released from jail May 17.
Cardenas-Rico is married to an American woman and has two children. His family lived in Las Vegas, and he sought to remain in the country with them. An immigration judge, however, ordered Cardenas-Rico to be deported within 60 days, his immigration attorney, Noah Pines, said Wednesday.
Police say Elvis Garcia, the father of a 1-year-old and 3-year-old twins, stabbed the boys and then himself to make it appear that they had been attacked at their Lawrenceville home. Only one of the twins survived with critical injuries. Garcia then claimed that his wife’s boyfriend did it. Cardenas-Rico, a professional mover, had been having an affair with the children’s mother for about three months, he later admitted in a jailhouse interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Within two days, investigators determined Garcia was the culprit. Garcia is being held without bond at the Gwinnett jail on murder charges.

Breaking the law as an illegal alien is much more serious than when you broke the law shoplifting or drunk driving. You are probably still paying for your mistakes, that why you live your life as a pro-illegal blogger. You still have time to throw you illegal friends a going away party before they are arrested and deported! Either that or you are going to miss your slave labor.

“Racial profiling” is a red herring used by open-borders advocates to draw attention away from their real agenda, i.e., to block all enforcement of immigration laws that were created to protect American workers and settle for nothing less than amnesty. Through such actions, illegal aliens and their advocates have repeatedly shown their contempt for American sovereignty and the rule of law.

A large number of 3rd world people levels the playing field (a redistribution of wealth). Cheap slave labor and a potentional for the entitlement class to stay alive is reason enough for a liberal.

Democrats are complicit in the Party of State’s service to fascist plutocracy, but the core of the “Republican” party is the same faction which gave the world Hitler and the Holocaust from their American collection plates through their correspondent bank, and Knight of Malta Prescott Bush’s finance of his fellow Knight of Malta, papal baron, Fritz “The Rockefeller of Germany” Thyssen. He got the nickname because all knew Bush’s money to the author of “I Paid Hitler,” came from the Rockefellers, the Vatican’s cash-flow repository in America. The Knights of Malta (the papal fraternity whose leadership openly claims to “run the Vatican”) practiced slavery of Jews for ransom on the Mediterranean Sea into the 1890’s and, of the 30,000 Nazi SS who evaded capture “through the Croatian priesthood and the Vatican’s “basement”) after WWII, issued 2,000 passports to Nazi SS officers to escape the Nuremberg War Crimes tribunal. If they wanted to give their kids a chance at the American Dream, then they should do things by the book and make it legit. As far as the farm work, I strongly believe that each state should have an illegal workers program available to assist in their state needs. Maybe a 6 month seasonal work visa, this is available now, but they have to apply legally.

What good have they brought, and how much tax revenue are they eating up, when they shouldn’t even be here? The evidence is out there to see that something has to be done, and you folks that want to give everyone a free ride need to understand that there isn’t enough to go around. There are too many people already waiting for handouts and illegal immigrants shouldn’t be the ones with their hands out or costing us American taxpayers a damn penny.

The problem comes in when those kids grow up, they understand what’s right and wrong, but they don’t correct their parents mistakes and file for citizenship. They eat up tax dollars when they are enrolled in our public education programs, and some even go to college on the government’s dime. Then they have kids and the cycle continues. There are always sad occurrences when it comes to these kinds of situations, and unfortunately their family should have loved them enough to go about it the right way, knowing full well that deportation was a possibility.

There will always be these heart rending exceptions, like the Catholic nun, the Cuban refugee, etc etc that are surfaced to make the case that laws shouldn’t be enforced. It’s wrong to give someone a speeding ticket because they were just hurrying to get to their kid’s soccer game. It’s wrong to arrest the bank robber because he just needed some money to buy food. This article reminded me of what I just read last night in the Moultie Observer, a South GA newspaper. For those who don’t know it, that county (Colquitt) is loaded with illegal immigrants due to the agricultural jobs. Last I saw the Hispanic population there was about 17%, which was second only to Dalton (Whitfield Co. ) in Georgia. Guess what is happening there now? Looks like what is going on in Mexico is spilling over into GA (Moultrie) and it’s not even a border state. Read yesterday’s Observer and you will see where a Hispanic man was found dead (stabbed) in his truck over the weekend and several houses were shot up. A couple of Mexicans have been arrested for at least one of the shootings. It will take over that area soon, and the citizens who are not rising up, will just say, “what happened”? By the way, that’s Saxby Chambliss’ hometown. Go figure !!!!

Look who steps up every time to knock down any serious legislation – the agra industry, the hospitality industry, the construction industry, the ever reactionary and extremely rightwing U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Even the south Florida Republican Cuban community weighs-in against reform. These are very well financed, well organized, politically connected (right wing) groups.
Yeah, the ACLU and other liberal groups take a stand too but compared to these other groups the liberal groups have no power or effectiveness.

So the illegals are the ones destroying society? That is an unreal statement. We Americans always want to blame something/somebody for our shortcomings when we fail and for some reason most of you are pointing the finger at these people who came to help this country and help themselves. Also, most of you act like all Americans pay their bills on time and never default on loans, or cheat on their taxes. That seems very naive. Illegals do pay taxes, illegals do work we dont want to do, illegals provide culture and they spend a lot of money in this economy. Marta is having trouble now, what happens when a lot of illegals move out…it will go under. Who will we blame then? Can you imagine how much $$ these people spend in our stores today? With laws like this all of their spending will be shifted to somewhere else, outside GA. This has terrible economic backlash associated with it. A lot of you make generalizations based off opinions and word of mouth, I highly doubt any of you have any actual figures/facts to back up your rhetoric. The underlying factor here has nothing to do with the illegal immigrants. It has to do with the melting pot that Atlanta is. We house people from around the world who came here legally to work and have a better life, now with this new law, they will be harrassed and possibly taken to jail if they are not carrying the proper i.d. on them at all times. I for one will only carry my liscence on me and will not abide by this law. I will sue this state if I am pulled over and taken to jail and then laugh at you ignorant followers as I rip the states money and move to a state that welcomes everyone. A lot of you are missing the point here. We are exposing ourselves (State of GA) to bad press and multiple lawsuits that will be won by the persons suing.

Obama,
When they have kids enrolled in our public education it cost us atleast $10,000 a year. When they have kids in our hospitals it cost over $12,000 to give birth in a hospital. Are they paying that much in taxes, cause the pennies in taxes they are paying for goods doesn’t add up to crap in the scheme of things. Most illegals are scared to come out as well, and they shop at their Mexican grocery stores to conserve money they send back to Mexico. You can continue to throw out your little statements that monetarily add up to pennies based on the total amounts they are consuming in this country. I love your comment about California, seeing as they are bankrupt and one of the most worthless states in this country at the moment. They are being sucked dry by the illegals. Look at their penitentiaries, their debt, and that should pretty much tell the story on your amazing statistic about California.
Justin,
The number of illegals supposedly paying taxes adds up to nothing when you look at the number that are in this country and leaching off of our society. They get into car wrecks without insurance and 100% of the cost is on the other driver, they get food stamps, free medical, no taxes, education, and a ton of other things that they are costing American citizens. We are helping kids overseas to help educate them and pull them out of the poverty stricken state their country is in. It’s another thing when a family comes here illegally and breaks our laws and slides in under the radar costing Americans more money in taxes when they don’t offer up anything. It’s the principle of the fact, laws are broken, and they DO NOT want to make it right, they want to skate by on a free ride.

I recently got in a car accident with an illegal immigrant. Spoke no English and of course had no insurance. So in addition to paying for her four children’s education, healthcare and mostly likely their food, I now have to pay to fix my own car. Yes my insurance will pay for it but I will still have to pay the deductible. It took me 3 years to save up to buy this car.
And worse, all she got was a ticket for having no insurance, not having a registered vehicle, driving without a license and following too close. What are the chances any of these tickets will actually get paid?

Georgia’s legislators who passed this law are COUNTING on the ACLU to have it vacated. Duh. This way the politicians get to act like they did something and keep their base happy all the while knowing they are doing nothing. The ACLU is the unwitting foil of Nathan Deal and Saxby and friends.
lllegal immigration is solved by securing borders, not by hassling people on the street. So why do Nathan and Saxby and Dr Rice and that guy with the hair and their friends not secure Georgia’s borders?
If these guys were at all serious about it, every road at the state line would be an inspection point! But no, they are just bluffing until the storm blows over (which will be when an R is in the Oval Office again and outrage stops being manufactured)

Bottom line. Go through the proper procedures to live in the country and no one has any issues. When ILLEGALS jump our boarders and get FREE Health & Medical, take jobs because they will accept less, form Americans, then that’s where I have a problem.
My wife & I adopted 3 children from overseas in the former Soviet Union. We did everything we had to do before entering that country and living there for 8 weeks. Then, we went through all the proper procedures to bring back all 3 of our children so they are here LEGALLY!!!
It’s a slap in my families face along with others that went through the same process when we see these ILLEGALS not having a care in the world to jump the boarders, and then on top of that complain about America.
Ship all 12 million plus of them out of here and make them come here LEGALLY! Again, come here legally and there is no issue. This is a no brainer. The people defending the ILLEGALS just don’t get it OR they need to be paying their taxes to the ILLEGALS themselves. I for one am tired of it!

If you are here illegally, you are committing a crime. Hence the term “ILLEGAL”. I have no problem with anyone who came into this country in a legal manner. However, the government will have a hard time with illegal immigrants who have children that were born in this country. Is it their fault that their parents came here illegaly?
Either way, something has to be done about this mess. Those that are illegal immigrants and have committed crimes while in this country should be deported immediately.

“Jewish American != Israeli. Republicans have been dreaming for decades of capturing the Jewish vote in the US by sucking up to Israel and it hasn’t worked.”
Correct. And there is a reason. The Jewish vote is a minority vote. And since the Goldwater campaign the Republican Party has not been pro-minority, any minority. Before Goldwater the most solid voting block in the country was the black vote for Republicans, the party of Lincoln. No more!
Bush 43 made an attempt to pick up the Latino vote during his first term but received no help from the congressional side of his party. So the Latino vote is still Democratic.
This may not be logical or make sense but it is the way the country votes.

I did not legally immigrate to the USA. I just so happened to fall out my mama in downtown Atlanta over on Boulevard. So why am I in a better position legally than others who did not legally immigrate? Legality was arbitrarily bestowed upon me by latitude and longitude when I fell out. That makes all kinds of sense.

The illegal alien lobby frequently touts the statistic that illegal alien workers contribute $7 billion each year to Social Security. They fail to note that for every $1 illegal aliens contribute to Social Security, they withdraw $10 in other government benefits.
The New York Times wrote in a 2005 article, “The estimated seven million or so illegal immigrant workers in the United States are now providing the system with a subsidy of as much as $7 billion a year.” The Heritage Foundation addressed this contention in its 2007 report, The Fiscal Cost of Low-Skill Immigrants to the U.S. Taxpayer:
It is true that low-skill immigrant households pay, on average, around $2,900 per year in Social Security (FICA) taxes; however, the average Social Security and Medicare benefits they receive actually exceed the FICA taxes paid. Of course, low-skill immigrant households receive many other government benefits as well, receiving ten dollars in total government benefits for each dollar they pay in Social Security taxes.
Eighty percent of illegal aliens are low-skilled.1 For every $1 they contribute to Social Security, low-skilled illegal aliens withdraw $10 in total government benefits. Just looking at one federal benefits program, Social Security, is sure to lead a person to a wrong answer because there are more than 60 different federal benefit programs. Illegal aliens are not eligible for many of these programs, but their U.S. born children are, or one person in the household is legal and can get benefits that help everybody in the household, or the individuals use fraudulent documents to obtain benefits.
It is easy to grasp how it is impossible for illegal aliens to cover the costs they impose on society by their modest contribution to social security. The New York Times article profiled Angel Martinez, an illegal alien from Mexico. He worked up to 70 hours a week for wages varying between $8.50 to $12.75 per hour. The article said he paid $2,000 per year in Social Security.
But for every Angel Martinez, there is the Gonzalez family of illegal aliens. The Gonzalez family was appealing enough to be featured on the reality television show “30 Days” in the episode titled “Immigration.” (The producers left off the word, “Illegal.”) This family of 2 adults and 5 children resided in Los Angeles, and had one wage earner who earned less than $15,000 per year. Simple common sense says that $15,000 does not go very far in supporting 7 people in Los Angeles. The rest of the cost falls upon the taxpayers and charitable assistance. In Los Angeles, the per pupil, per year expenditure on public education in 2001-2002 was $13,074. If each of the five children goes to school for 13 years (K-12), the cost to educate the children is $850,000, all of it paid for by California taxpayers.
This one family needs 425 Angel Martinez’s contributing to social security to make up for the educational cost imposed on the United States by their children. The Heritage Foundation study also notes that illegal alien children becoming rocket scientists or internet tycoons is extremely rare. Unless the Gonzalez children attain an upper middle class salary, it is unlikely that during their entire working lives they will pay enough in taxes to repay the United States for the cost of their upbringing, and the Gonzalez children will in turn have children of their own, who will probably go into the public schools.

This is factually incorrect. The Social Security administration has a big pile of money sitting in the kitty that was collected and sent in on forged, stolen and duplicate Social Security numbers. Congress has attempted to resolve the ownership of those funds but no bill ever gets out of committee.
So the money sits there and helps hold the deficit down.

What about my civil rights? I can’t afford to pay for the undocumented workers any more. I don’t understand why some people on here think I should have to spend my own money to support them. Just one example of what they cost me every month can be seen in my insurance premium. I use to pay a $5 co pay, now I pay $40, I didn’t have a deductible, but now its $1000 and at the same time my monthly premium has tripled. Why? The cost of my health care has gone up so much to cover the illegal undocumented immigrants. But according to some on this site I’m a racist if I don’t want to keep paying more to cover their health cost. I would love to see the originating country of these workers cover their tab, but we will never see that. However, I have a different solution for the problem; don’t punish the illegal worker, punish the businesses who hire them. Who knows, maybe then you could have open borders, without all this drama and problems.

@ Obama,
Your assertion California takes in $30 Million in taxes from illegals is amusing. The city of Los Angeles loses billions of dollars every year on the illegal population. The rest of California loses billions more.
How do you address the claim by the illegal population of the United States that portions of the West and Southwest belong to Mexico and the plan is to restore Mexican control over these states? la raza indeed!
The claim by Aquagirl that the laws were not enforced ten years ago so we should ignore the problem now is ignorant beyond belief. I will wait to hear from Aquagirl when her family suffers from the drunk driver who just happens to be illegal or when she is forced from her home by burdensome taxes to support the illegal population.
All of you who support illegal immigration should be volunteering to pay their expenses, assist them to legal status, take them into your homes, feed their children, and take responsibility for their medical expenses.
To argue the US used the illegals and should now support them is infantile.

The nun’s story would tug one’s heart were it not for the fact that her church runs ads in Spanish on the radio explaining to the illegals how to get welfare in our country. The illegals are pawns, unfortunate as they may be to have to return to their country to overthrow the Old Sectarian Order’s regime of king and pope to share in the American Dream, as we had to in 1776: they are pawns in the Roman false-elite Fifth Column’s published stratagem to “taking back” America from those their literature claims “stole it” from the ancestors and co-religionists of Hispanic Roman Catholics.
We must arrest this tax-free treason and those subverting the Constitution in Congress and on the SCOTUS. Any patriot can read a copy of their marching orders for taking over America through the promotion and protection of illegal immigration, legal aid, naturalization/amnesty, and voter registration to “construct the Kingdom of God in the United States:” The National Pastoral Plan for Hispanic Ministry” is a the Library of Congress, your local RC diocesan library and at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/National-Publication-Publishing-Promotion-Conference/dp/1555861997
The nun is doing what her priest told her to do. He was told by his bishop, who was told by his cardinal. It is a quasi-military organization…and “they” know what “they” are doing. If we allow them, they will continue to attempt to “gaslight” the rest of us as they repeal the American, liberal, revolution against the Old Sectarian Order of king and pope, which, since time immemorial, ruled the world before Our Founders’ broke free to make the Individual sovereign instead of a chief, pedophile priesthood, or potentate.

Yes, illegals do pay all variety of taxes as mentioned before by using forged documents. Also, please remember that illegals come in all colors and ethnicities. One thing people fail to know is that legal residents are not citizens, but they too pay social security, etc. Immigration is a huge business in this country so don’t beat up on the ACLU since lawyers make a fortune on this and so does the government. With residency application fees going up every year, and the application fee for citizenship at almost $1,000 per applicant. As to the guest worker program, it’s been in existance forever so nothing new there. I just learned that the ILLEGAL family that lived down the street from me here in Gwinnett is being foreclosed on! How in the heck does an illegal alien get to purchase a home in the US? I would not have believed it if I were not shown the facts in the public notice section of the local newspaper. Upon further review of the listing, most of the names on this LONG LIST are not JOE SMITH, they are mostly immigrants.
No wonder the foreclosures here in ATL won’t go away! I have just about had enough with what we have had to endure with illegals and their constant taking from US. I am willing to suffer through more pain and money to see that they are all sent back to what ever country they came from.

What Larry Sabato said about the Jewish vote is exactly what I said two weeks ago. Obama’s statement about the 1967 borders carries little weight when compared to the mean spirited attitudes displayed daily by right wingers, the same can be said of Hispanics. Republicans are living in La La land if they think that people that have been traditionally disenfranchised by groups that eerily resemble conservatives, are going to flock to the polls to vote for these neo-money changers. I think it is time to rename the “Tea Party” the Kool-aid party, because so many are drinking it. In reality undocumented seems like a fair term, because even those of us who are documented are really illegal aliens. How convenient to forget the Native Americans from whom this land was stolen. So face it, you and your ancestors were/are illegal aliens too. And there is no statute of limitations. Additionally, we pretty much invited these illegal/undocumented workers in, seeing as how we were all for cheap labor during the boom years. All anyone does is talk about the costs of undocumented workers. Actually, they are not eligible for most government assistance… and many of their children are American citizens. And they buy groceries and cloths, rent homes, and throw parties (have you ever been to a Quinceañera (the Latin equivalent of a Sweet Sixteen party)? I have, and I can tell you the families spare no expense. When these families leave Georgia, and our economy goes back into recession, and thousands more homes and apartments are vacated, then all the Xenophobes will be crying, and blaming someone else. And it won’t be just the illegal/undocumenteds who leave. A lot of documented/legal people will leave as well. Who wants to hang around and be profiled, even if you have the paperwork to fend off the indignity. Their community is being driven out, their friends and families are being targeted. Nathan Deal is already perplexed because migrant workers are passing up Georgia to pick elsewhere. Wake up Gov. Deal. Would you go to a state where you are not welcome when you can just as easily go to one where you are. So as we speak, Georgia’s fruits and veggies are rotting in the fields. I’m always amused when the leftist statists call Republicans, and conservatives, “mean”.
I think a 17% real unemployment rate is mean. I believe a $14 trillion debt heaped upon both us and future generations is really mean. A $1.8t trillion annual deficit is terribly mean. Denouncing a plan to save us from certain financial destruction (while offering no plan) is undeniably mean. Destroying our healthcare system and replacing it with one that will cost more, ration care, and kick millions off of the insurance they now have is mean. Cutting a half trillion dollars from Medicare to pay for it is also mean to seniors. And risking soldiers’ lives and our treasure by starting another war with no objective while ignoring the War Powers Act is really mean.
Words are one thing but it’s pretty clear that liberals/statists/leftists/Democrats are mean because of their multitudinous mean actions.
And actions speak louder….

While the ACLU is solid on privacy rights, this is one of the MANY areas they’re totally mistaken. First of all, illegal invaders are NOT Americans (…got that American Civil Liberties Union); secondly the invaders are de-facto law breakers. If the fedgov won’t fight the invasion, states have to. Well those people having too many babies need to learn how to keep it in their pants. It’s all about accepting personal responsibility. If contraception is a no no to their religion, then they need to practice abstinence, because sex is not something that is forced to have or a law to have, it is a way of pleasure that people use and obviously the way to reproduce. If their religion doesn’t allow them to practice safe sex, then they need to just not to do it. It’s as plain as that. Just because they want to romp a million times doesn’t mean American society should be responsible for their religious beliefs and the financial burden be thrown upon us, whom had no choice in this, but they do hold the choice to not have sex and run the possibility of getting pregnant every time.

If Amerika is really going the police-state route, at least we should be honest and return the Statue of Liberty back to the French b/c Amerika certainly isnt’ intereste in the tired, the poor or the huddled masses yearning to be free. All modern-day Amerika cares about is white victimhood and trying to oppress minorities, women, the old, the weak, the infirm and the children!

Seems like my comments got under a lot of people’s skin. My wife is an ESOL teacher and we occasionally attend student functions. Leave it to some scared xenophobes to use my attending a student’s birthday party with my wife as an opportunity to expose their own perverted urges. If I were their friend, I’d be afraid to invite them to a family get together.
I have traveled to Africa, Asia, and South America and have friends from all cultures. Don’t be afraid of people who are different. They are not out to get you.

The issue of illegal immigration in Georgia is nothing more than a red herring to detract from the real issues such as cuts to education, transportation woes, economic woes, and a sluggish job market. If politicians were really serious about curtailing illegal immigration they would strengthen the borders, make it a crime to knowingly hire illegal immigrants, and actually enforce current laws. Th truth is the labor is cheap, good old fashion racism gets those righties’ blood boiling, and they have a wedge issue for the 2012 election.

I wonder what if the Native Americans’ lives would have been like today if they had the likes of Gov. Deal and his good ole boy staff. Georgia will suffer economically…and for what?

So nick, your wife helps out with translation during your “activities”! What a great couple you must make! I am sure the illegals love having you both hangin’ around!

So “Nick cries”, you have now clearly established yourself as a pedophile and a xenophobe. Obviously, every interaction between you and children involves inappropriate behavior, as you are unable to conceive of anything else. And in your view of the world, every Latino is illegal.
Your attitude is the reason people who are here “legally” will leave as well. It is frightened, angry people like you who are destroying our state and our country. Take your hate speech somewhere else and leave a reasonable discussion to reasonable people.

That retired Air Force lieutennant should be court marshalled for helping illegal aliens. What’s the country coming to when even our armed forces have drunk the liberal kool aid? No help to the enemy. Jesus may have preached about loving enemies, and Deuteronomy says to be kind to the aliens, but God didn’t mean ILLEGAL aliens who are taking over!!!
