Paul Broun: TSA agents patted down grandma and child, but skipped guy in Arab robes

On C-SPAN’s “Washington Journal” this morning, U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, R-Athens, said he was undecided when it comes to reauthorization of the Patriot Act. One reason, he said, was the focus on screening average Americans in airports.

Broun said that during a recent trip – he didn’t say where — he saw TSA agents pat down an elderly woman and child, but skip a man that the congressman said was “in Arabian dress, who just walked right through.” See it here:

Clearly, they had been to diversity training from CAIR. Arabs don’t hijack planes and kill people, only grandma and children.

Profiling of any sort does not necessarily work. Instead, it may just let the one who people think won’t have anything go through and wreak havoc. Now, as far as the grandma and the child, did they have anything in their pockets that would warrant a pat down search? Perhaps they left something in their pockets while the one in Arab dress emptied out the pockets.

Clearly, racially profiling is acceptable because there’s never been a terrorist who wasn’t non-Arab…

..except that’s totally false

In TSA’s eye’s “profiling” the Arab is probably a more serious infraction than allowing him to walk through with a bomb under his bedsheet. This political correctness is a cancer that’ll eat away at our nation until people start pushing back against it.

@ DEMS SUCK of the 9/11 highjackers how many were dressed in “Arab garb.” Answer, none. What do Richard Reed, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, José Padilla, and Faisal Shahzad all have in common? None of them are Arabs. This is why racial and ethnic profiling doesn’t work, unfortunately you and your ilk are too blinded by bigotry to understand this obvious fact.

Please excuse me but the BS buzzer in my brain is going off. I wouldn’t trust Mr. Broun in a henhouse with a muzzle on, but that’s just my humble opinion.

Mr. Broun and Mr. Woodall dwell on a celestial plane that allows them infrequent contact with reality.

If Broun’s statement is true, then the screenings at airports don’t work. But if he can’t name the airport that it occurred, then he needs to admit he is lying. And it is conveniently ‘a person in Arab dress,’ so he is also a racist and xenophobic.

Delusional politicians do far less damage than psychopathic politicians, especially when they team up with their fellow psychopaths in the business sector. This combination is precisely how Georgia got to where it is today – last at everything but recruiting uneducated third world indigents to dump on the taxpayers.

If I were the bad guy, I wouldn’t dress in attention drawing (Robes) clothes. Maybe that’s why so many suicide bombers in Iraq and Afganistan are in military uniforms (they blend better).

Congressman Broun, hopefully, isn’t on the intelligence committee.

Idiots. As for me, I love Paul Broun! Because: He’s from our end of the congressional district…. Athens/Clarke County. Imagine if we had been stuck with the jackwagon from Augusta…. Jim Whitehead. I can always tell when I’m reading comments from the “Elephant bad, Donkey good” crowd. Grow up, move out of mommy’s basement, pay taxes, get a real job involving lots of flying, note the common occurance of the type of situation Broun observed and get back with me!! Idiots.

I was in the past TSA in the Indianapolis Airport several weeks ago and saw two creatures (female?) waddling around in “traditional Islamic dress”, i.e. motley bags, rags and FACE VEILS…I would have like to have been at the TSA post when THEY went through. Are there not laws prohibiting face veils?

Before Ted Kennedy’s 1965 Immigration Act, Americans knew who belonged in this country. Diversity is NOT our strength.

Read the book ‘Muslim Mafia’. It is a very well documented book exposing CAIR [Council for American Islamic Relations], which the liberal media treat as the voice of the average Muslim in America, as a front for Muslim Brotherhood which set up CAIR. The documentation is extensive, particularly the several thousand pages of recently declassified FBI documents along with secret tape recordings and copies of many internal CAIR documents gathered by an infiltrator into the organization. Their ultimate goal is Sharia law [Muslim law] in the U.S. instead of our Constitution. The real war on terror is going on right her on American soil. Read the book and see for yourself.

Judging from the comments here, common sense is becoming very uncommon. Our education system has dumbed down our country and political correctness is our new religion. Why someone with the intelligence of Paul Broun even wants to go to Washington is beyond me.

@Radley You are a mendacious troll, why don’t you add something constructive to the conversation or go back under your bridge.

@talkingoutmyazz The fact that you choose to stereotype the people with whom you disagree instead of addressing the substance of their statements is very telling. You say that grandmas and little children are getting patted down all the time while people in “Arab dress” walk through terminals unmolested and that these people in “Arab dress” are the true danger is belied by the fact that people with Arabic or Muslim sounding names almost always go through extra layers of scrutiny when the travel. If you actually knew anyone with a Arabic or Muslim sounding name you would know this to be true. Also, your assertion that people in “Arab dress” are a greater terrorist threat than others runs against the fact that people dressed in such a manner have committed absolutely zero airborne terrorist attaches against the United States.

To give you an idea of the state of our district, recall that Broun won the 2007 special election and 2008 primaries because those Republican challengers (Jim Whitehead and Barry Fleming) were even bigger liars and fools.

Seriously, when a majority of district voters take everything he says at face value for no other reason than because he said it, we clearly do not have a healthy electorate.

Paul Broun’s narrow minded commentary makes me embarrassed to be a Republican. Profiling of any type is divisive and will only cause more harm. Clearly, if Broun had his way, there would be a separate line for all people of Middle Eastern decent which required enhanced security measures. I am mortified to know that there is an elected official in office who feels so adversely passionate about Arabs, that he would fabricate a story just to enrage and scare Americans. I feel for our Arab American citizens that have to listen to the trash coming out of Broun’s mouth followed by the prejudice of people that actually believe the non-sense that he spews. Broun… you need to hang it up. The average, reasonable minded American, will realize that the root of your fabrication is fear and hatred. You should be ashamed!
