Mike Huckabee and a cartoon history of America

A sign that Mike Huckabee may not be interested in the 2012 GOP nomination: He’s co-founded a company to take history to American kids – with cartoons.

“When it comes to American history, our nation is facing an epidemic. Schools across the country have turned their backs on our children by distorting facts, imposing political biases, and changing the messages behind the important lessons of our history,” Huckabee says in the on-line pitch.

Here’s a promo on LearnOurHistory.com:

In a way, Huckabee is spot on. This isn’t a history you’re likely to see in public schools. There’s not a textbook in the country that depicts the moral decline of America with a black man waving a knife and saying, “Gimme yo’ money!”

Let’s hope he is cashing in instead of ruining another GOP nomination by running on his Christian theocracy message, and making the abortion issue a litmus test.

Huckabee was a Lt. Gov. and Gov. of Arkansas. Finished second in the nomination for President and has a highly ranked cable show. Please educate us in what in your background gives you the experience or breadth of knowledge to belittle Hucabee?

The reason this is not in History is that it is totally bogus. Reagan’s “message” to Gorbachev had NOTHING to do with the destruction of the Berlin Wall years afterward (and after Reagan was no longer President). It also neglects the facts that Reagan dealt with the terrorist situation by sending Marines to Lebanon without protection TWICE, where they were bombed by terrorists. The pointless invasion of Grenada, the terrible increases in the debt and deficits, and the savings an loan scandals brought on by his relaxation of the enforcement and oversight, are real History.
Enough of this revisionism!!

We are ready to condemn Lebron James for using the word retarded refering to a stupid question from the media. Yet, people want the depiction of a black man wielding a knife attempting to hold someone up is not playing to a sterotype but rather is American history. To answer his question, Mr. Huckabee should look at the man in the mirror as he has contributed to the decline he laments with this piece of trash. This is just as insane as Micheal Moore saying we have lost our soul because we executed a terrorist.

The next Huckabee cartoon will feature Pablo and Maria.

Pablo: Reagan is the Padre of our country.
Maria: Si Pablo, Padre Reagan gave citizenship to our grandparents.
Pablo: Now millions of us will be voting Democrat.
Maria: Gracias Padre Reagan.
Obama: Muchos gracia Reagan, muchos, muchos gracias!

liberalefty @ 10:44 – Yes, if we would all just fall in line with the Democrat Party… that party that gives us so many choices, except whether you own a gun, what school your child goes to, what entitlement programs your federal tax dollars are spent on, et cetera, et cetera.

John K @ 12:09 – Agreed, but there will also be plenty of crazy coming down the leftwing pipeline as well.
“We need to cut spending.”
“You hate kids and want seniors to die.”
or
“We need to reform health care insurance.”
“The Republican plan is, if you get sick, die quickly.”
or
“We can’t cut federal spending, otherwise there won’t be a Cowboy Poetry Festival somewhere in the God-forsaken Nevada desert.”

No Revisionist History @ 12:27 -
You’re too late. Almost all history is revisionist history. Put ten people in a room and let them witness the same event. Chances are you’ll get ten differing stories, each with the same kernel or truth, but with different perceptions. Always remember, when studying history, “Cui bono?” Who benefits?

Lefty – more freedom? Are you serious? Get out under that rock you live in. The government regulates your healthcare now. TSA gropes people getting on airplanes and will soon grope people getting on trains. Cameras are being installed everywhere to watch what you are doing. Michelle’s all about making sure what you eat. Kids cannot even bring lunches from home with their thinking. Mr. Transparency cannot even hold up to his promise on press access. Obama has control over many aspects of the private sector as well. There are endless other examples of LESS freedom now.

Wonderful spot.

It was Reagan who asked for and signed the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 which gave amnesty to millions of illegal aliens. And now Huckabee must want to do the same with the illegals among us today.

It was Reagan who invented the “Cut Tax/Increase Spending” federal budget that we have enjoyed for the last 31 years. And now Huckabee must want to do the same. Heck, we can double the $14.2 trillion national debt easily by following the Reagan formula.

And then there is this famous Reagan quote on the role of government:

“Protecting the rights of even the least individual among us is basically the only excuse the government has for even existing.”

I am sure Huckabee endorses this Reagan thought on the limited role of government in its fullest.

And since we are glorifying Reagan today, here is my all time favorite quote:

“Status quo you know, is Latin for ‘the mess we’re in’.”

Only problem is that the Reagan presidency is a major cause of the “status quo”.

Hold up, flag on the play. Here’s is Huckabee’s quote again:

“When it comes to American history, our nation is facing an epidemic. Schools across the country have turned their backs on our children by distorting facts, imposing political biases, and changing the messages behind the important lessons of our history,”

Um, is he aware of the shenanigans down in Texas where the school board voted to change the history curriculum to fit a conservative, religious agenda? Talk about distorted facts and political biases.

Quoth Huckabee: “Schools across the country have turned their backs on our children by distorting facts, imposing political biases, and changing the messages behind the important lessons of our history.”

And there’s no bias whatsoever in this piece.

I know that this is intended for kids (or anyone else whose critical analysis skills are still in the early stages of development) but his transparent garbage would be a non-starter for almost anyone who sees it between the ages of 24 and 40. The respect I have for that guy is rapidly eroding.

(BTW, what’s with the “DISCO” tank top?)

@Red: Do you have any evidence for this?
“Michelle’s all about making sure what you eat. Kids cannot even bring lunches from home with their thinking.”

The First Lady just wants to promote healthy eating, and make sure that there are CHOICES for kids that fit with a balanced diet. Promoting does not equate to mandating.

John K

Danny O, that just fits into the new conservative culture of victimhood. Everyone with an ounce of sanity (that includes ol’ Huck!) knows that she’s promoting, not mandating. Still won’t stop the delusional, led by their Queen Caribou Barbie to claim otherwise.

@leftyliberal: ‘Next Huckabye will long for the good ole days of JIM CROW’

You’re mistaken.

Newsweek on Huckabee
http://www.newsweek.com/2007/12/08/a-pastor-s-true-calling.html

.. promising health care for low-income children and vowing to defend wage earners against Wall Street greed and runaway CEO pay. Alone among the GOP candidates, he speaks emotionally about the legacy of Jim Crow and the dangers of ignoring lingering racism. It is wrong, he says, that inner-city blacks routinely receive harsher sentences than affluent whites arrested for the same crime.

In Pine Bluff, Huckabee tested that love. The Immanuel Baptist Church was an all-white congregation when Huckabee took over the pulpit. One day he announced that a young black man, who heard his sermon on the radio, had asked to worship with them. Huckabee welcomed him to their pews. Some church elders were furious and refused to let the man sit with them. Huckabee threatened to quit unless his guest was greeted warmly. A few members quit in protest, but the rest of the congregation went along. (The church is now integrated.)

Huckabee seems reasonable at times and then steps in it. I assume that he is just so ideologically driven that he cannot see that he is guilty of the alleged offense he claims to be counteracting. Namely, this is such unmitigated propaganda, and not even very slick, that it gave me a big belly laugh.

Danny O

@independent: I agree that Huckabee is unique from other national profile Republicans in the personal values and philosophies that he seems to draw on for some of his policy aims. But this video is the type of thing that would make it hard to separate him from the the typical actions and rhetoric of other well-known conservatives. Politicians should stick with cutting their own path, regardless of what the flock does.
