Just got off the phone with Rick Tyler, spokesman for Newt Gingrich.
I’d called to see why the former U.S. House speaker was passing on the first GOP debate of presidential candidates on Thursday – in Greenville, S.C., and broadcast on Fox News.
Entry requirements required a declaration of candidacy that Gingrich was not prepared to make, Tyler said. “We decided to stick to our time line.”
And what is that time line? Tyler wouldn’t say much, but Gingrich is scheduled to speak to Georgia Republicans at their state meeting on Friday, May 13. “By the time Newt speaks to the Georgia convention, he’ll be a candidate,” Tyler said.

Newt doesn’t have any worse history than our current Chicago-thug-in-Chief, yet is one of the most brilliant and experienced politician from either party. Yet, because he is a Republican he is summarily rejected as a serious candidate. Clinton cheated on his wife multiple times, disrespected the Oval office and office of President–but treated like a god (small G).
The duplicity and hypocrisy reeks to high heaven.

“Somebody is going to have to explain that to me..please?”
Ok. It’s because Gingrich supports things like the so-called Defense of Marriage Act. But the biggest threat to marriage is divorce, and Gingrich has what..three of those on his resume? Talk about hypocrisy. It’s because he, as a poster said on another thread, follows the “For thee, not me” philosophy of leadership. You can disagree with his policies (as I do on many), but Obama has far more personal integrity and character than Gingrich. That is why Gingrich pretty much zero chance of winning, and that is even before the inevitable unearthing of scandals that will come with the campaign process. Indeed, I believe he will be one of the first out of the race if he enters it.

Wonder if he will endorse Romney when he drops out after the New Hampshire primary. Romney might promise him a cabinet position in return. Endorsing anybody else will be a wasted effort – only Romney has the gravitas to possibly compete against the incumbent Obama. All the others are in Fantasy-land, angling to be VP or cabinet members, or building name recognition for future political runs.

It is a darn shame that the Republican Party has lost its way and given us such a sorry lot to select from in the 2012 Republican primary. As for me…it is “Boot Newt”, “Dump Trump” and “Make Hominy out of Romney”. Most of the rest are lightweights and just more of the same. I might be able to support Gov. Daniels, of Indiana, if he had Sen. John Thune on the ticket as VP. Oh for an independent candidate who had the qualities ande charaqcter of Ronald Reagan, Harry Truman, and Ross Perot! God knows our country needs someone like that to lead us out of the mess the clowns in both parties have gotten us into.

With so many candidates seeking the Republican nomination, the Hussein lovers should be a bit worried. If Hussein was unbeatable, there would be far fewer people seeking the nomination, and it would indeed have to be “forced” upon someone. The relatively large number of candidates does speak to the fact that Hussein is highly vulnerable, and will be defeated in 2012.

@ WOW – Policy reversals after finding out the staked out positions were wrong is not a lack of integrity or a character flaw. Policy failures isn’t either. Taken together, they might be reason to question competency.
Other than his statements that his administration would be the most transparent, and lack of giving his college transcripts/ associates – I have NOT seen his integrity or character successfully challenged. IMO, Bush was attacked similarly and also undeservedly.

I simply don’t believe Obama was lying – he merely reversed himself when he became educated that his Gitmo, tax, and Iraq withdrawal policy stances were wrong. I actually find those hard lessons as character builders. Although he has never apologized to Bush, On the Job Training (OJT) is a good thing.
Those and his other policy stances are debatable issues, but personally attacking him should be held out of bounds until/unless gross character flaws are exposed. The politics of personal destruction is certainly a mainstay – but not everyone plays.

He has to own the substantial increase in the national debt, the $1.4 trillion dollar deficit, the high rate unemployment and under-employment, the tremendous inflation created by (1) the cost of fuel and (2) massive introduction of currency into the economy. Hussein also owns the highly unpopular ObamaCare. He has an awful lot of explaining to do, and I frankly think his fancily framed lies aren’t going to work.

Waterboarding worked.
BRIAN WILLIAMS: I’d like to ask you about the sourcing on the intel that ultimately led to this successful attack. Can you confirm that it was as a result of waterboarding that we learned what we needed to learn to go after bin Laden?
LEON PANETTA: You know Brian, in the intelligence business you work from a lot of sources of information, and that was true here. We had a multiple source — a multiple series of sources — that provided information with regards to this situation. Clearly, some of it came from detainees and the interrogation of detainees. But we also had information from other sources as well. So, it’s a little difficult to say it was due just to one source of information that we got.
WILLIAMS: Turned around the other way, are you denying that waterboarding was in part among the tactics used to extract the intelligence that led to this successful mission?
PANETTA: No, I think some of the detainees clearly were, you know, they used these enhanced interrogation techniques against some of these detainees. But I’m also saying that, you know, the debate about whether we would have gotten the same information through other approaches I think is always going to be an open question.
WILLIAMS: So, finer point, one final time, enhanced interrogation techniques — which has always been kind of a handy euphemism in these post-9/11 years — that includes waterboarding?
PANETTA: That’s correct.

Someone earlier said “Clinton cheated on his wife multiple times, disrespected the Oval office and office of President–but treated like a god (small G).” Funny, that is just why I detest Gingrich.
While parading as a social conservative and what that is supposed to espouse, Gingrich has repeatedly been unfathful, ditching wives when they become inconvenient or unattractive or too sick, while pretending to ‘talk the talk’ about solid Christian values. He led the charge to publicly destroy another man for the same sins he was actively engaged in and concealing from everyone.
This man has been a liar & an adulterer MANY TIMES, yet NOW wants to be given another chance because THIS TIME he really, REALLY means it. Given his age, I am sure some his sexual escapades have slowed down. But how could you really ever trust what he says? Gingrich serves Gingrich and that’s always been his bottom line. God may forgive him his sins, but does that mean we have to trust him when he has shwon to lie repeatedly when given these opportunities?

Gingrich is certain to lose the nomination now, since snubbing SC GOP. http://exm.nr/ik8Iyj
