With scores of people across the South yet to be buried, with houses and schools and businesses and churches to be rebuilt, Donald Trump may be a strange topic to focus on. But perhaps the hazards of real life – flesh, metal and futures twisted by tumultuous winds of fate — are precisely the tools needed to illuminate the tin-foil nature of American politics.
Two days after Donald Trump claimed credit for President Barack Obama’s decision to release his Hawaiian birth certificate, the real estate mogul and prospective GOP candidate late Thursday night gave a speech laced with F-bombs to a Las Vegas crowd of several hundred Republicans, promising to subject rival nuclear powers to dialogue provided by Elmore Leonard.
As if he could treat Hu Jintao as if he were a Chinese version of Gary Busey.
You may find all of Trump’s incestuous recommendations, in their entirety, on YouTube. Here’s a cleaned up version from CBS:
Southerners know how to cuss, with a rhythm and color worthy of study by many New Yorkers. We do not shy away from expressing ourselves. But the best of us demand an elevated form of public dialogue. This is the land where Rhett earned his most grievous black mark for declaring — on the printed, public page — that he didn’t give a damn about Scarlett.
Martin Luther King Jr. surely employed locker-room language to privately rail against the indignities of segregation. But in public, he used G-rated words – powerful, biblical stuff — to bring down Jim Crow.
Unfortunately, what’s said in Las Vegas can’t always stay in Las Vegas. It must, given the networked nature of the world, come our way. Someone needs to tell me how Trump and his language – not just his choice of words, but his ideas, too — can play a constructive role in the Southern heart of the Republican party.

“When I want my men to remember something important, to really make it stick, I give it to them double dirty. It may not sound nice to some bunch of little old ladies at an afternoon tea party, but it helps my soldiers to remember. You can’t run an army without profanity; and it has to be eloquent profanity. An army without profanity couldn’t fight it’s way out of a piss-soaked paper bag.”
“As for the types of comments I make”, he continued with a wry smile, “Sometimes I just, By God, get carried away with my own eloquence.”

How about Trump being anti free trade? That is Lincoln Republican not neoliberal Eastern Progressive Republican…
**Northern Progressives sought free trade to undermine the power base of Republicans** –
Woodrow Wilson would admit as much in a speech to Congress. A brief resurgence by Republicans in the 1920s was disastrous for them. Woodrow Wilson’s ideological understudy, Franklin Roosevelt, would essentially blame the Great Depression upon the protectionist policies exemplified by the previous Republican President, Herbert Hoover……….
So if a “socialist” Democrat like FDR supported free trade and was against protectionism to undermine the Republicans why is it that Republicans so staunchly support it today? Look at CATO, Heritage et al…
Republicans dominated American politics until around the early 20th century. President William McKinley stated the United States’ stance under the Republican Party as thus:
“Under free trade the trader is the master and the producer the slave. Protection is but the law of nature, the law of self-preservation, of self-development, of securing the highest and best destiny of the race of man. [It is said] that protection is immoral….
Well, they say, ‘Buy where you can buy the cheapest’…. Of course, that applies to labor as to everything else. Let me give you a maxim that is a thousand times better than that, and it is the protection maxim: ‘Buy where you can pay the easiest.’ And that spot of earth is where labor wins its highest rewards.”
And Remember all of those Reagan Democrats? Trump and Reagan have a ;ot in common
May 30, 1988
The Reagan Record On Trade:
Rhetoric Vs. Reality THE CATO INSTITUTE
The Reagan administration has failed to promote free trade. Ronald Reagan by his actions has become the most protectionist president since Herbert Hoover, the heavyweight champion of protectionists.

It is not Donald Trump that is sick, twisted and ignorant, it is any part of a country that would entertain (even for a second) his presence as a leader or someone whose values we would want leading this country. He is a clown. From the period of January 2001 to January 2009, we should know the consequence of having a clown in the oval office. Everyone who so voted wants to forget those consequences (debt, stupid war, loss of international respect, bi-partisan rancor, failed economic policy, lack of regulation and government protection, greater disparity between the wealthy and the middle class). What does it say, that anyone in this country would support him?

Donald Trump’s leadership style is the polar opposite of President Obama’s. Trump’s antics help to clarify, starkly, that difference.
Southerners, and all Americans, can see – quite dramatically – the difference in inner strength between the two. Trump is betting on the likelihood that the American psyche still respects the bully. His belief is that one “wins” by intimidation. Obama knows better. His strength comes from the deepest resources of his character. He does not need to bluff. His inner strength shows forth when he leads through his insight and impact, as did MLK Jr. Having strength, by those traits, eludes Trump’s consciousness.
If both were actors, Trump would put on the mask, with nothing going on inside; Obama would deliver the character from the deepest resources of his being.
The world is continually evolving in consciousness. Americans have a clear choice through which to express who they presently are. I’m betting they have evolved past the time when they were perceived to be “the ugly Americans.” Bullies have never really been respected. I’m betting the majority of Americans will call Trump’s bluff.
As far as Southerners are concerned, they could always recognize real class, which has nothing to do with a “colorful” word, or two, being expressed with gusto, but has more to do with innate dignity. Money can’t buy class. You either have it or you don’t. Trump doesn’t. Obama does. Southerners know the difference. I only hope Southerners will vote what they inherently know to be class and strength.

Trump is a double-talking snake that cares only about Trump. He’s bankrupted 4 times, and skated on the debts (who absorbs that debt?). He’s crossed over on every issue he was ever for. His only purpose is the elevation of Trump. He’s earned horrible marks on foreign labor issues. If it fills his pockets, he’s for it- at that time.
I can just imagine Lady Liberty toppled so there can be a big vertical word “TRUMP” in her place, as Donald turns us into Trumpistan, declares our debts as non-existent, and runs our credit rating into the ground while turning us into an economic wasteland.
Folks need to quit getting all buttery in their nether-regions over what Trump says, and look at what Trump has done- repeatedly.

Mr. Galloway: It is obvious you have no problem dismissing Trump as not a serious candidate for President and no problem labeling him a side show or clown. If he wins the Presidency will you be saying that we should not speak against him and have more respect for him. He is going to be running against Obama if he runs for President…did you want him to glorify him as you in the MSM do. The American public is tired of all the tip toe through the tulips walk with this Wizard of Oz …after 3 years of him running this nation in the ground do you think we cannot see what’s going on behind the curtain? Call Mr. Trump anything but crazy until you have mastered a way to increase your wealth as he took his father’s money and increased it into the billions. I believe he can do it. No I do not like cursing and it upsets my sensibilities because I never hear it but at least it’s not Joe Biden not knowing the mike is on. I think Donald sees what’s gong on with his own businesses and he will make our country prosperous again …and he will not bow to leaders of fhe world. He was reading the comments sections of articles and knew that people were not getting answers to their questions regarding Obama’s murky past. You guys will not touch vetting Obama at all….afraid I guess of being called racist. The birthers are not racist they just are intelligent people that knew the packaging didn’t match the contents of what you have presented as the ideal and glorious Obama. I don’t blame the President but the Puppet masters.

I want Trump to name his investigators. You know, the ones that never existed. He is clearly lied about that. He said that what his investigators found would be shocking. Still waiting to hear what was so shocking about what these fake investigators found. The fact that Obama was born in this nation is not that shocking. Still waiting to hear the shocking news that Trump promised to deliver–the shocking news from this invisible investigators.
He lied. He is a sick version of Yellow Journalism run wild. He should work for the National Inquirer. Maybe he can have some made-up investigators do a fake story on the Roswell Aliens or search for big foot or something. What a stupid nation to fall for this garbage. Oh yeah, Obama’s mother was an American citizen. Doesn’t that nullify all of the birther talk anyway? Funny, how the republicans love the Constitution so much. Too bad they never seem to read it or know what it contains. Birther=someone who does not know the basic concepts of our Constitution.

It would be interesting to see how you know what words MLK used during those private strategy meetings to combat segregation. Or unlike the video of Trump you just assumed he used those words. It is not hard to see there is a place for Trump, his words and his ideas in the Southern heart of the Republican Party. Georgia’s governor used the term ghetto grandmothers in his campaign speech. Ole Barbour of MS said while growing up a kluxer group was okay as well as maybe he should okay an auto tag honoring the founder of the klan. And at the tea baggers rallies, I just loved all the racial caricatures of the President and his family by all those patriots and christians.

Trump is what he is and that is a self-promoting, publicity seeking empty suit who is all hat and no cattle. He has no intention of running, but is playing a desperate pool of anti-Obama miscreates like a banjo.
The only good thing that has been accomplished by the Trump antics is that they have put Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann and Newt Gingrich on the back burner.
If the Tea Party/ Republicn Party is smart they’ll soon spit Trump and these other fire breathers out like sunflower seeds and try to find an intelligent candidate who stands a chance of winning. But, my guess is they’ll continue their march to the fringes and wander off into the wilderness of mediocrity and defeat.

Trump and his style of talk is best suited for the regional area that he lives in(New York). We southerners are sensitive when it comes to the use of profane and vulgar language. We don’t mind using it but there should be a valid and immediate point being made not just repetitive cursing intending to try to shock the public.
We have moved beyond being shocked as most of primetime TV constantly use such profanities in some kind of attempt to be “hip” often employing young actors to corrupt our youth and make such language acceptable; it is not and I don’t tolerate it in my home nor do the people that I associate with and least of all would I tolerate it in someone who wants me to vote for him as the next President.

I notice there is a certain segment of the population who thinks that tough talk is a sign of someone’s courage. (Hence, the bizarre comparison in these comments of Trump to Patton.) I noticed the same phenomenon with Dick Cheney. Both Trump and Cheney did everything they could to avoid military service. I also notice a certain segment of the population seems willing to overlook Trump’s bailouts and bankruptcies. I can’t imagine how Trump would have ever been “successful” if he didn’t have the head start.
When I hear bluster like this, I think of a bully. A bully would make the worst sort of president. When I consider the most courageous presidents in American history, I can’t imagine any of them would act like Donald Trump.

Trump lost me when he played the race card on the birth certificate thing. Haley Barbour lost me when he lied on national TV about the spending during the Bush administration. Michele Bachmann lost me when she opened her mouth and noise came out. Same for Palin. Huckabee lost me when he played the race card on the Obama youth years. John Bolton lost me when he opened his mouth and noise came out. Rudy (I’m gonna wait till the race is over and put all my assets in the Florida primary) Giuliani lost me when he gave away the 2008 nomination.
Does anyone have any influence with Governor Chris Christie? Can we get him in the race? So far he has not lost me.
Will salty language ( I realize I am soft pedalling his language) fly in the Bible-belt South? I can handle Trump’s language. Most of my evangelical friends say they object to such language.
Now we shall see if they have been honest about their objections.
I would love to be able to vote for a conservative for president but the Republicans haven’t nominated one since Eisenhower (I was to young to vote) and the Democrats are incapable of nominating one.

Trump shows a total lack of understanding about how government works. He seems oblivious to the political process, so many of his remarks fall into the “stupid remarks” category.
Government is not a business. It doesn’t work that way. And, duly elected members of congress will not be steamrolled by a president with a CEO mentality.
Good CEOs make bad politicians. Bad CEOs make horrendous politicians. Shouting “You’re Fired” at Gary Bussey is not the same as dealing with congress.
But, of course, this is all a publicity seeking hoax and very soon the “Celebrity Apprentice” season finale will show how The Donald played gullible and desperate Republicans like a banjo. He took them for the fools they are for thinking he in any way would be an acceptable candidate and effective leader of the American people.

Trump reveals something else besides bullying, lying, and meglomania. His contemptuous remarks about our elected President Obama consistently show the racism that is behind much of the opposition to the President. There is the “birther” nonsense. There is the claim that the President could not possibly have gotten his Harvard degree on his own powers. There is the statement reported here that the President spends all his time on the basketball court. Over and over Trump’s words are racially coded attacks on the President. We should be glad that he is revealing this so starkly.

Hussein could have produced this birth certificate when all the questions were posed even prior to the election if this birth certificate was available at that time. Why wait until now? Could it just be remotely possible that this certificate did not, in fact, exist then? Only now, with the re-election campaign in the offing, has this certificate surfaced. I submit that it creates far more questions than answers. Of course, there are mindless millions who will accept it without question. I am not mindless . . .

Ok libs, let’s get past the profanity for a moment! His ideas – (1)China and Japan, who sell billions of dollars of products in this country, putting a tax like 25% on them? (2) South Korea, Libria, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc – if we protect them, they should be paying for our protection. (3) Why are we building schools in Afghanistan, when our schools here need the money?(4) Why are we paying billions to Mexico, just to be good neighbors? They can not stop the flow of illegal immigrants from their side! Help me to understand why these are not good ideas even though a little bit of profanity was used!! It’s not all Obama’s fault, include former president Bush in this mess too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone needs to tell me how Trump and his language – not just his choice of words, but his ideas, too — can play a constructive role in the Southern heart of the Republican party.

While I can’t get excited about supporting Trump (but if his name appears as the only choice in 2012, I’ll hold my nose and vote against Barry), some of you seem to have forgotten that your beloved vice pres also has a major issue with profanity. Audio clips also float around the web with Barry using foul language as well.

Trump likes to talk about how he is a successful business man and all that…but lets not forget that he inherited $200million from his father.
We are not talking about a self made millionaire here. President Obama is a self made man…Trump is not. How hard is it to hire the best and the brightest when you inherit a fortune…then claim it was all your idea.
Somebody (namely NBC) needs to fire Trump.

It seems most of the people in this blog are too young to remember one of the best Presidents of the last century. He was a (D) and used salty language. Trump has other issues which would detract from him being our leader. He would not be worthy to hold HST’s jockey strap.

You are correct. HST did use salty language, but he knew when NOT to use it. That’s the difference. The posers of today are clueless. The saddest thing is —it doesn’t have to be this way. We have devolved as a nation.

the fools already voted for one unqualified african american and made him president- that shows anything is possible-Trump just tells it like it is and how it should be- he is tired of the pussification of America by the Losers on the Left that want to blame their low status on the socio-economic ladder on everything except the poor choices that they have made in life.I will vote for him just because he is not part of either partys corrupt system- this country needs a few more Fbombs to shock it into the reality that nothing is free- the losers that are on any kind of public assistance need to learn this lesson and to the countries who get the use of the US Armed Forces as free security services, they also need to pay for those services. To hell with the rest of the world – its us versus them- To the Victors be the spoils of war

It would be rather nice to have someone in office whose both feet and head are on Mother Earth. As far as his liberal use of profanity…SO THE HELL WHAT!? We, as a supposedly informed constituency, continue to allow ourselves the distractions of the superflous. Politicians know this, and they fully exploit this weakness; all they have to do to sidestep these issues is polish their act, say what the sheeple want to hear, and…POOF!…they’re in office.
This guy’s got the spheroids this Country needs at the leadership helm. The last President with anything resembling political spheroids was assasinated back in 63. He, in essence, told those SOBs to get there fu_ _ ing a_ _es back where they belonged, OR ELSE! No one, since then, would EVER have the spheroids to act thusly.
As far as the homefront goes, he’s been there. He knows how to make a buck…and it’s that simple. He knows how to surround himself with people who are worth a poop, and get things done. So he cusses like a Soldier at the bar…BIG FREQUIN DEAL!

So tell us o wise one WHO “made” Obama. It has been established that the snot Trump was “made” by daddy with $200 mil, which it has long been established he was a “trust fund baby”. WHO “made” Obama. And you have to let go of this silly idea of the President’s ability to speak. Firstly, ALL modern Presidents used a teleprompter for public speaking and have had official speechwriters. Secondly, do you forget Barack went toe to toe and HANDLED foreign and domestic policy against the likes of Hilary Clinton, John Edwards, etc on the Democratic side, and John McCain on the Repub side?
It’s the Biggie/Tupac thing isn’t it?? Oh… and to the other individual who posed the question of why not release the birth certificate when initially requested. Here is your answer, it’s called PLAYING YOU LIKE A FIDDLE, which is a highly enjoyable activity to partake to make those who try to $— on you look like utter fools. For one, he is required to show none of you morons his birth certificate. That was handled during the candidate certification process. Checkmate!!

And to the laughable point that because he cusses, he’s got a little “Patton” in him….my grandmother cussed like a sailor, and nobody in the family wanted to piss her off. But she also couldn’t balance a checkbook or read above a 5th grade level. Trump is a buffoon filled with bluster and horsesh*t. He lies with such ease that he can’t even remember the lies he’s told. @ Mary Elizabeth,
Obama has no class. He operates on sheer arrogance, and if you ever read his writings, you would know that. He doesn’t consider himself “above the fray.” He considers himself both above the law and above the people. As far as his “deepest resources” are concerned, those would be whatever the unions tell him they are. And as for conservatives, we know Trump won’t be President, but we respect the fact that he is willing to call attention to Obama’s destructive and devisive nature. Obama, after over two years of hiding it, finally showed his long-form birth certificate, because of Trump! Interestingly enough, a computer expert (and you can see this on Youtube) has proven that many parts of the form, including the date and mother’s signature, have been doctored. It ain’t over yet!!

Presidents that shoot from the lip get the country into conflicts that cost hundreds and thousands of young lives. As has been the case since the beginning of this country, the sons of rich men stay home while the rest shed their blood so the rich can get richer and their sons can preen before an adoring public.
To assign to Trump manly qualities because he can cuss up a storm and posture before an adoring audience is to ignore his history of deferrments and his 4-F— just like Cheney and the other chicken hawks who are so quick to shed the blood of others for their country.
To this ilk I say simply horse hockey!

Unfortunately, cursing and use of the F-word is common these days. I witnessed a young ‘lady’, talking loudly on her cell, use the F-word a half a dozen times. When she got off the phone, I asked her if she realized she’d done that. She didn’t even say ‘oops’, ‘my bad’ or apologize. She just turned and walk away as if to say, ‘You old fogey’. It’s only a matter of time until it is part of everyday language.

Not to drag up a non-important issue again accept to point out that the Republican’ts kept harping on it because they have no real answers to any of the serious problems facing the Nation. They have no idea how to fix the economy, when actually there are two items that would do wonders towards solving two of the problems. 1. Place requlations back on the energy fields, oil and natural gas. Take both of these items off the commodities market and institute a wind falls profit tax as Jimmy Carter did when OPEC called for an embargo in the late 70’s. This would stop the crippling of the American economy by greedy individuals and companies by freeing up moneies for other sectors of the economy. 2. Raise taxes on the wealthier individals and companies. This is the only ay government has of raising money to carry on the activities that every citizen believes is a must – defense, education, protection (fire and law enforcement), senior citizens and health and safety in our food, clothing, medicine and other everyday necessiaties. s any good businessman knows, when his/her businedss is going in the red, they do not cut incoming revenue and raise spending. And yes before you Republican’ts start, raising spending on military and corporate welfare is just as bad as giving to underserving individuals. As an accounting or bean counter as we are sometimes known, we see everyday what is happening to the little man and small business, not from the Democrats but from the Republican’ts who are only interested in helping the big become inflated at the expense of the masses. America was a great n ation as long as it wanted to help those who needed the help or protection because they fueled the economy not a select few inflated windbags.

Valerie, and many others, seem to delight in non-issues/inconsequential issues which, at the end of the day, mean next to nothing. At this particular point in time, I don’t believe a presidential contender’s Draft status is a big issue. I am not alltogether sure if, given Trump’s age, the issue even exists. Given that he was born way way after the Draft was abolished, your remark, Val, exemplifies the empty-headed (I won’t even call them remarks) blatherings which seem to pop out of the woodwork of bafoons, idiots, and people who really have nothing remotely resembling constructive remarks. Sometimes, Val, it is far better to remain silent than to blab out and remove all doubt.
Rich, you seem to be overlooking one small item: the 200 million which Trump (allegedly) mismanaged was HIS, repeat, HIS to mismanage…NOT public monies but HIS. Be that as it may, Rich, no one can dispute the fact that the mans got the “political gamesmanship” to step out and do what needs doing. Since the Kennedy administration, we have seen, primarily, “fireman leadership. Rather than take proactive measures in warding off the potential “fires” within society (fire prevention), we have seen administration after administration fighting fires which, with well-thought out policies, could have been prevented. I believe Trump has that experience to lay the groundwork for success, both domestic and on the global arena.

Donald Trump is a disgusting, arrogant, incompetent, vulgar person. If the nation even considers electing him it will show the depths to which we have fallen morally.
Who could imagine just a few years ago a candidate for president using the F-bomb in a speech!
I would vote for the Democrat who ran against him if he were the Republican nominee. I’ve never voted Democrat but I’d do so if their candidate were a decent person. Trump makes the abortion supporting President Obama look like a choir boy.
