Newt Gingrich to announce exploratory committee ‘within 10 days’ — in Georgia

Update at 11 a.m. Sunday: I was on a State Bar panel Saturday afternoon with Randy Evans, the Atlanta lawyer in charge of Newt Gingrich’s business interests. He’s quoted below.

Before we parted, Evans told me this: “In 10 days, Newt Gingrich will be in Georgia, announcing his exploratory committee.”

Evans later sent an e-mail. “Within 10 days,” he said.

So that’s Tuesday by March 8. Not necessarily on March 8.

Original post: As a culture, we no longer admire the tease. Gypsy Rose Lee always won applause by keeping her feathers discretely placed, but she is long gone.

The Internet is all about the full frontal.

Which is why you have to hand it to Newt Gingrich and the way he has managed to stoke continued interest in his presumptive Republican run for president with provocative breadcrumbs tossed out to journalists.

During a January visit to Georgia, Gingrich let it be known in private conversations that he’d scouted out office space for a campaign headquarters in Buckhead.

In Florida on Thursday, the former U.S. House speaker from Georgia even spoke of potential running mates. From the Palm Beach Post:

“Florida has two and maybe three potential vice presidential candidates right now, maybe four if you count Jeb Bush,” Gingrich said. He mentioned Sen. Marco Rubio, U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Plantation and Gov. Rick Scott.

On Friday afternoon, a South Carolina political blog published a transcript of a TV interview in which Gingrich pledged fealty to the first three states in the GOP contest. The former speaker made very careful use of the subjunctive as he dismissed Florida’s ambition to become an early contender:

My commitment would be explicitly to Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. Then Floridians should figure out what they want to do. We went through this exact same game in 2007 and 2008. It is not a very dignified process I am afraid.

On Friday afternoon, Lori Geary with Channel 2 Action News caught up with two Gingrich allies in Georgia, who were dropping their own hints.

She quoted Matt Towery, the CEO of InsiderAdvantage: “I would say speaker Gingrich is about 90 percent there, and I would expect that the announcement would be one that he is running.”

More intriguing was the tidbit from Randy Evans, the Atlanta attorney who handles Gingrich’s business interests: “I just think we’re in the process of restructuring the businesses to make Newt’s possible candidacy a viability.”

Not all of this foreshadowing is under the former House speaker’s control. Earlier this week, a University of Pennsylvania student confronted Gingrich about his three marriages – launching a thousand Tweets across the Internet. The video can be seen above, courtesy of CBS.

From Geary and Channel 2:

Both Towery and Evans said the former speaker is ready for the tough questions about his personal life. Gingrich has faced scrutiny for his torrid past, including marriage scandals.

“The good thing for Newt Gingrich is that his personal life has been assaulted for over 20 years,” Towery said. Evans agreed, saying if voters are willing to look past his past Gingrich will be successful.

“If the election is about yesterday, then it’ll always be a challenge but if it’s about tomorrow then i think he’s got a leg up,” Evans said.

Trofino – if you thing Newt is at the top of the list – I fear for you. Really he is all BS – and all about Newt. Explain why he BLEW IT as Speaker of the House – talking about shooting yourself in the foot. And as I stated before – he is on Hannity just about every other day – bragging about himself. And Sean Hannity seems to have the same tingle up his leg for Newt as Chris Matthews has for Obama. IT’S CREEPY. And Sean just parrots everything Newt says – I have an AFrican Gray Parrot that can do this!! Newt’s a puffed up HACK. This is what Conservatives DON’T want or NEED to clean out the White House in 2012.

Yeah he served in Congress here but he’s been in DC for years. The man left Georgia. Why do we keep referring to him as Georgian?

I cannot believe the GOP is not looking at Congressman West as a potential nominee he’s good in debates a exceelent leader and has his head on his shoulders. It aggrivated me during the debates during the last election both presidential and vice presidents dodged hard questions during the debates. We are slowly losing our country and jobs with the current leaders. We need someone that will reduce goverment and bring jobs back home that’s unless you like china and Mexico building our goods and india answering our phones those were american jobs and you can thank unions for causing those jobs to go oversees. Now those once union workers are unemployed and forienrs have those jobs. Wake up people

Newt is a retread RINO. He was in favor of cap and trade legislation and the deficit ballooned under his “leadership”. We need real conservatives like Rand Paul and Ron Paul – those that understand that we should be cutting $500+ billion, and stop wasting so much money overseas with foreign aid and militarism.

We help Americans find jobs and prosperity in Asia. Visit for details.

What’s the “exploratory committee” all about? Is he looking for chicks again? Kinda remember him banging some Congressional aide or something while his wife was languishing in a hospital getting breast cancer treatment.

Well if we KNOW about some of his extra curricular affairs – imagine what the Dems will dig up before he’s even finished saying he’s running. He’s a RINO and he had his chance. He needs to move out of the way and perhaps become Sean Hannity’s co-host – you know like Ed McMahon was for Johnny Carson. tee hee

Newt, although I respect your mind, don’t waste your time or money, your sun has set long ago. A cabinet position is all you will ever get or deserve, and as long as people know your a member of the C.F.R. you will never be trusted to the peoples bidding. A treasonous lot you are. Please America, listen to Kennedy’s speech on secret societies.Any politician who joins any of these groups are NOT working for the people and should be removed from office in the next election cycle.Oh, by the way, Obama and Hillary both attended a Bildeberg meeting in D.C. during the 08 campaign.Bought and paid for baby, bought and paid for !!!!

Check it out. Remember when Pat Robinson of The 700 Club ran for president? Let’s say he won and immediately began filling his cabinet and administration with 700 club members, what would the press have done, let alone the american people? This is exactly what has been going on for years with the Council of Foreign Relations. Jimmy Carter was a member, George Bush was a member, Bill Cllinton was a member and oh guess what? Newt Gingrich is a member. Ronald Reagan and George W were not members but thier cabinets were riddled with CFR members.
Hope is right we have to get somebody like Ron Paul, it doesn’t have to be Ron, but somebody like him who understands what is going on. He is the only one talking sense about the devalueing of the dollar and why it is happening.
The Pat Robinson senario I laid out you would never put up with and you would never vote for another 700 club member again. Well?

My candidate of choice is Lt. Col. Allen West. He is deeply Conservative, brilliant in military knowledge and takes the race card off of the table. Gingrich has his flaws, but he understands the problems of liberal government and would be my second choice, regardless of his baggage.

I suppose if Newt had poured it on non-stop for a decade or so, like some others – you know, really getting in there and biting at the heels of the red menace, AKA American semi-social (ist) government, I suppose then, maybe I’d trust his pathetic reformation.
Instead, he was a part of that same diseased body by his intentional and passive incompetence. No, he does not want a confrontation on the real issues. He wants to be a friend to all, academic, urbane, sophisticated. I get that – that is also in a way, who I am. Brilliant, smart, funny, enlightened – you know, just like that mental case C. Sheen. But this is not the time to be smart and friendly, now, is it? No, it is the time to call the federalist a parasite.
Most government workers are part of the problem, and a government dependent is a person already bought and paid for, sure to be just as corrupted. A taxpayer is now a servant of that parasitic entity operating in financially unsustainable and extra-constitutional territory. Sorry, I don’t like to say it or write it, but that is what it is.
So Newt wants to be normal. Keep the goo over there and off of his person. Unfortunately, we do not live in normal times. Newty, you have to be a little out there in order to draw that line. And this animal is not really out there. He is just like any other zoo animal. Kept, passive, a performer. So suck it Newt. Or blow it, or whatever.
Finally, I do not really care if the whole economy crashes down tomorrow in the wake of the unavoidable federal financial default. (Sorry, but it is coming)
I will profit from it one way or the other. You regulars think I’m a bit crazy? We’ll see who is living in a tent, laboring in the role of bag lady, pushing that chrome Target shopping cart full of cans and picture frames around.
Newt is a relic of that retarded and stupidly sweet, innocent and bygone era of GW Bush – that ludicrous ineptness that gave us this current dullard of a human lapse that flies around in AF1 sometimes.
Again, suck it Newt. Call me if you really want to win. On second thought, don’t. As much as I loathe Palin, she is a far better pick than you.
