Your list of Senate committee assignments

The state Senate Committee on Assignments just released its list of committee chairmen and assignments.

Jeff Mullis, R-Chickamauga, keeps Transportation. The appointment of Barry Loudermilk, R-Cassville, to the chairmanship of Science and Technology could ease passage of legislation regarding embryonic stem cell research. In the House, Loudermilk was a strong abortion foe.

Tim Golden of Valdosta, a former Democrat who switched parties, leads Retirement. Two Democrats, Ron Ramsey of Lithonia and Ed Harbison of Columbus, are chairs of Urban Affairs and Veterans, Military and Homeland Security.

Just by coincidence, neither Ramsey nor Harbison were able to make it to the Capitol on Monday, and thus were not forced to cast a vote for or against the new Senate rules.

Will Shafer allow this session’s version of Sunday Sales advance, or will his booze-peddling Regent neighbor, Richard Tucker, buy his opposition yet again?

Glad to see the Appropriations Committee Chair is still Jack Hill. Senator Hill has the experience to lead our state during these tough economic times – if only the other yahoos will get out of the way!

Who is chairing the expressway and highway Deicing and Snow Removal Committee? Inquiring minds want to know. Hourly workers, small business people, airlines and all the rest of us eagerly await the names of the Committee members to call about digging out from under 4 to 8 inches of snow and ice after millions of dollars of lost income and lower revenue.

Hey, I need my driveway taken care of, too! And I am a state employee–a teacher! Not just 40 days a year at $425 plus 178$ per day per diem, but a full time PhD teacher. How about plowing the driveways for ALL of the state’s employees, especially the teachers!

Says Deal: “It is comforting to know that the things which truly define who we are as a state and a people have changed very little in 126 years.”

This is the way the man’s mind works. Our governor doesn’t even think like a man in the 20th Century. He’s stuck in the 19th. So forget clearing the roads. Saddle up your horse and ride into town!

@ ethics:
Based on the cited complaint, It looks like John Albers has the qualifications that Georgia’s voters love. He should be in the running to succeed the Real Deal in 8 years, if the state still has enough money in the treasury to fund an election.

Clearly BUTTERWORTH and MULLIS’ backing of an ethical disaster in Cagle were rewarded with some posts! They may have lost the respect of their peers in the Senate and the Morale Majority back home, but they traded all of that for some positions. Congrats guys on selling out successfully….for now!!!

Surprised to see you up so late Sen. Butterworth (aka GaCitizen). Must not be much going on today in the Senate? Just checked, you guys are adjourned! We know you care Jim, but your going to lose!

Looks like the beltway character is jealous! I doubt the Butterworth guy has time to be on the blogs, much less care.

I agree, Albers is a snake in the grass. How’d he get so many committee assignments? Maybe spying on other peoples’ emails. For real, the northfulton establishment didnt want him. What’s his deal?

My understanding is that Albers despite claiming not to negative campaign had his goon squad spread rumors that his opponent was pro-abortion and then used robo calls (which have not appeared on his disclosure) claiming that his opponent wanted to raise taxes because he supported T-Splost.

In one of the robocalls he had a woman impersonate Tom Price’s wife Betty claiming an endorsement- Jim wrote a post on it in August.

Albers continues to have a problem with the truth- still claims to have a degree from Louisville and denies any of the negativity came from his campaign.

In the end he won by 112 votes.
