My AJC colleague Bob Keefe in Washington has this:
U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss’ office has determined it was indeed the source of a highly publicized homosexual-bashing slur on an Internet site.
But in a statement, Chambliss’ office said it has not discovered exactly who was behind the slur, and has turned the matter over to the Senate Sergeant At Arms.
“The (Sergeant at Arms) has worked side by side with our personnel to determine whether the comment in question emanated from our office. That appears to be the case,” an unsigned statement from Chambliss’ press office read.
“There has not been a determination as to who posted the comment,” the statement read. “That part of the review is ongoing, and is now in the hands of the Senate Sergeant at Arms.”
Spokeswomen for Chambliss did not return a reporters phone calls or emails seeking more details.
Tuesday, a poster identifying himself as “Jimmy” wrote “All (gays) must die” on Joe.My.God., a blog dedicated to gay and lesbian issues – just as Republican Chambliss and other senators were debating a Democratic proposal to repeal the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. The proposal failed.
The posting was traced back to an Internet Protcol address matching Chambliss’ office, but it’s unclear whether it was one of his offices in Georgia or in Washington.

Fine. Fire the employee. But it surely gives an indication of what Chambliss’ office looks for in a candidate.

A perhaps flawed analogy to Nathan Deal’s problems: Nathan says all he did is help his kids (though I’d disagree). All the Senator did was hire whomever is a bigot (or hire the person who hired the bigot).
An aside, the really dumb thing about the comment left on the gay site is that who was the person hoping to convince of what? Gratuitous hate for its own sake by someone that draws a government salary.

And how did said staff member even know about joe.my.god, a gay blog? Apparently, he/she visited it before…
Out state ought to be a much better example nationally. Right now we’re a laughingstock. Barnes’s ad from, a month or two ago, is spot on. Why would any buisness want to relocate when we’re in the news because of:
-A staffer from our senator wanting to kill all the [gays]?
-A national laughingstock candidate in Nathan Deal for Governor?
-Corruption investigations involving a major party Gubernatorial candidate and the current Lt. Governor?
-A state assembly more concerned with microchips in brains than creating jobs?
Unreal.

After the Republicans voted unanimously against the cloture vote to end debate on the National Defense bill and move it to the floor for a vote, effectively killing the repeal of DADT and the DREAM Act, there’s no way I’d believe that one lone employee working in a Republican senator’s office never heard anything derogatory about our gay men and women serving valiantly in the military. They were probably the ones who got him riled up enough to wrote what he did. Either that or he’s a closet gay full of self-loathing in a Republican’s suit.

I am not particularly a Chambliss fan though I have voted for him. I do think it unfair to blame him for this act of stupidity. My best guess is that the perpetrator of this post will be summarily fired. Whoever posted that is entitled to his opinion – if he does not let that opinion interfere with his service in whatever position he holds. In this case, he should be fired not only for his inappropriate action, but because he is too stupid to be employed there.
Now, those of you who merely want this as a reason to fire salvos at Chambliss, knock yourselves out.

Republicans seem to be allergic to gays.
(I’m straight but believe in letting people live their lives as they please,, as long as they don’t harm other living things, even republicans.)
So Chambliss should fire up the polygraph machine and get the person who did this out of there. Oh wait, wait, he’d have to fire everyone for agreeing with it, including himself.

Accountability should be the polygraph test and the immediately firing of the guilty party. If Jimmy is saying all people will die, that is a fact and if he means all gays are bound for hell then that is a religious view. Jimmy has a right to his religious view but he should not endanger any other person while demostrating his constitutional right.

Studies indicate the Southerner in particular is very fearful that ‘his’ white women will be so attracted to the “Cult of the Giant Black Snake” they will abandon his ‘tiny’ self. Something similar is at work with the unnatural obsession with gay sex that pervades Dixie in particular. Secretly the gaybashers are gay themselves and dream of domination/penetration by a powerful male, while the women fear losing their males to the gay lifestyle that said males secretly long for.

Ex-gay, I hope you’re not working on Sunday’s. We’d have to put you to death. (Exodus 35:2) (To be fair, I’m not a biblical expert, so I don’t know if “work” includes doing laundry, cooking, cleaning, running errands, studying for school, or paying bills. Perhaps you can consult Bishop Eddie Long on that issue.) Also, eating shrimp is bad for you. God apparently feels one of his tastiest creations is an abomination, which is kind of an odd thing to do, if you ask me. Someone should notify Red Lobster so they can respect the word of the Lord and go out of business. (Leviticus 11:10)
While we’re on the subject of Leviticus and abominations, do your immortal soul a favor and check the clothes you’re wearing. If they are cotton/poly blend or (heaven forbid) cotton/spandex (check your undies in particular), you’ll want to repent, or make a reservation in the fires of hell. (Leviticus 19:19)
Oh, and the next time you swear at the Braves for making some bone-headed plays, please turn yourself in at the next condo board meeting so everyone can get together to stone you to death. (Leviticus 24:10-16)
Then again, maybe we could just agree that rational, modern humans don’t make rules based on a book that was pieced together from stories told by men who didn’t know what gravity was, and were fearful of an eclipse.

Jane Kidd: Petty Democrat
September 23rd, 2010
7:58 am
A separate AJC story said, in part: Democrats seized on the situation.
“No American should be subjected to the threats of violence from the staff of a United States senator,” Democratic Party of Georgia Chair Jane Kidd said in a statement.
She criticized Chambliss’ office for not moving more quickly on identifying and disciplining whoever wrote the slur.
——–
But Chambliss admitted the slur came from his office and said steps were being taken to identify the individual. Ms. Kidd’s words reflect poorly on her since Chambliss appears to being doing all possible: admitting the slur’s origination and identifying the culprit.
Are Republicans now supposed to issue a press release criticizing Roy Barnes for holding fundraisers with alleged sexual predators? I hope not since neither one of these actions would solve any problem facing Georgians.
I expect the individual responsible for the slur will be identified and fired in a short period of time. And that should be the end of it.
Petty Democrats issuing petty press releases shows how small these people are.

The insanity of politically correct speech is proven. We’re concerned with a slur while Comedy Central is airing Chappelle reruns with frequent un-bleeped uses of the worst slurs (including the one that got Dr. Laura censured). A large segment of society apparently wants racial, gender, etc. division to continue. Ad nauseum over-analysis of these non-news stories leaves no other reasonable conclusion.
Do people in general not have enough real problems without creating more discord? Or, is it that we really like to fight and will come up with a reason when none exists? Or is there such a financial bonus to faux victim mentality under our warped politics of entitlement that it cannot die? Whatever happened to a “sticks and stone”…”but names will never hurt me” attitude? Police crimes of physical harm and punish the doers. Banish the thought police and let’s get on with important things in our lives.
