A new Roy Barnes’ TV ad: Nathan Deal is ‘slippery as a bag of snakes’

Maybe you don’t kick a man when he’s down – but in politics, you sure do stick your leg out if he’s stumbling.

The campaign of Democratic nominee for governor Roy Barnes is out this morning with a new, coffee-shop attack ad on Republican rival Nathan Deal.

We’re told that it’s intended as a parody of an anti-Barnes TV ad issued last week – to absolutely no fanfare – by the Republican Governors Association.

In his reply, Barnes doesn’t mention Deal’s personal finance problems, but – yet again – makes a large point of the former congressman’s Washington connections. Perhaps the most notable aspect of the ad is its target – Deal’s wheelhouse of white male voters.

The Barnes script:

Actor No. 1: You know, times was better when Roy Barnes was governor.

Actor No. 2: Yup. I had a job.

Actor No. 1: He brought in 235,000 jobs.

Actor No. 2: Yup. Made Georgia work.

Actor No. 1: Reduced class sizes.

Actor No. 2: Yup.

Actor No. 1: Shoot, he even lowered my property taxes.

Actor No. 2: So this Washington guy Deal is lying?

Actor No. 1: Slippery as a bag of snakes.

Actor No. 2: I guess we can call him a shady Deal.

Male voiceover: Nathan Deal. Too corrupt, even for Congress.

Here’s the RGA ad:

The script:

Actor No. 3: Remember Roy Barnes?

Actor No. 4: Yep.

Actor No. 3: Remember how arrogant Roy was back when he was governor?

Actor No. 4: Yeah.

Actor No. 3: And remember how he made Georgia last, dead last, in education?

Actor No. 4: Yeah.

Actor No. 3: And remember how Georgia led the nation in job losses?

Actor No. 4: Yeah.

Actor No. 3: And then he tried to blame everybody but himself.

Actor No. 4: I remember.

Actor No. 3: Then you remember King Roy.

Actor No. 4: I wish I could forget.

Male voiceover: Roy Barnes. Once was enough.

The last ultra negative campaign was Karen Handel’s. Where is she now? Just a bit of advice for Mr. Barnes.

Has anyone thought why Barnes can’t talk about himself and what he wants to do? Just wondering….

Now won’t that media be something all the Atlanta hipsters and metrosexuals share on their Facebooks?! So their vast network of toothless bubbas back down on the rural Georgia farm will be sure to see it. And send it out with their John Deere iPhone 4s and camo-covered iPads. Oh, and guffaw. I know I never share campaign media online in MY vast social network unless there’s a guffaw-factor. And chewing tobacco dribble.

This is funny coming from Democrats. Its the same way those snakes passed Obamacare with backalley deals and complete lies regarding the cost to the American people. How about the backroom deals they made with Louisiana, Nebraska, and so many other snakes. Suddenly they are concerned with truth and ethics. What a crock!! Why doesn’t someone bring up the truth about how much Obamacare will cost taxpayers and the rationing of our healthcare. Wake up and check it out for yourselves. Hold Democrats accountable for passing Healthcare Reform for your childrens and grandchildren’s sake. Democrats calling anyone a snake is a JOKE!!!!!

The Barnes machine is rewriting history from every angle. It is important that we need to have a unified voice detailing why it is imperative that Nathan Deal is elected governor.

1. Reapportionment: Georgia is poised to gain 1 or 2 NEW congressional districts. If you recall the damage Barnes did the last go around had Georgia looking like and Barnes will certainly be accommodating to Democrats
2. Appointments: The governor makes Judicial Appointments as well as many other state government service appointments. A Barnes administration is going to take care of Barnes contributors and Democrats.
3. 2012 – We don’t need Georgia becoming a doormat for Obama.

Did anyone notice the entire motif of the ad is a poke at the RGA paid ads running against Barnes — 2 white guys, talking over coffee, talking about how things were under Barnes? Let politifacts check the statements of the two sets of good ole boys and see who is more truthful. Better yet, let’s have these guys engage in tag team wrasslin — that will raise the tenor of this election!

??? I voted for Handel in the runoff so you are mistaken about me calling Handel a liar. I dont work for Deal but I do have a family that I am very concerned about how Obamacare will effect our lives. I am a grandmother to 2 and mother of 4. You can vote anyway you like but I am FED up with the way Dumocrats vote with Pelosi and Obama. You obviously drink the Obama Koolaid so drink up. I will send my message to every Democrat that I can from now on because I am sick of them ramming laws down our throats regardless of what we want. We put them in office; we can vote them out too. They tend to forget that once the election is over. If Deal does the same thing then I will be the first to send him the same message. I would much rather have Handel as the Republican candidate but that did not work out this time. I do not want the government controlling my healthcare and my family’s healthcare under any circumstances. I have not problem with helping people that could not afford healthcare and I am willing to pay more in taxes but that was not enough for the Democrats. They want to control our lives and healthcare is the way they will do it. I want someone to fight to repeal healthcare in anyway, shape, or form. That will not happen with Barnes as governor we know that from history. He will stick with his party regardless of what his constituents want.

Folks I have to agree that Nathan Deal has problems, shoot he might be a little dishonest, but if you think about it how many Honest politicians have you ever heard from. I doubt Deal would steal more than his fair share. Consider King Roy “don’t call me Obama” Barnes. He was rumored to be even more dishonest than Gov. Purdue, which is really bad. King Roy never saw a tax he didn’t favor, a road to be built by his cronies, or taking money from teachers to help his buddies, all are rumored to be true. Now you have to ask yourself why a man who spent 20 Million dollars to be defeated last time is spending 15 million more now. The Barnes family has as much money as any family in GA, he has a very rich law practice, yet he can not stand that the people of Georgia didn’t want a King 8 years ago, and they don’t want one today. If you don’t like Nathan Deal or Roy Barnes just hold your nose and vote for Deal. I expect him to cost the people of Georgia less, and he is the lesser of two evils.

—-gaindependent2010—What does your hatred for Pelosi and Obama have to do with the election here in Georgia? You’re no visionary, I’m sure. You may suffer from halucinations, but not from visions.

It’s going to be nice to have Roy Barnes back in the Governor’s Office again. We know we’ll get more from him than the “Go Fish” program $onny gave us. We certainly know he’ll give us more than Deal would have given us. Deal would be spending most of his time figuring out who he could shakedown for cash.

I think Barnes’s new ad is just what’s needed. They do a satirical attack on that stupid, lie-filled ad by the RGA on Deal’s behalf. The RGA could run an ad right now telling us that Nathan Deal can walk on water and heal the blind; however, he has tanked. He’s finished.

As each day passes, more and more stuff will surface about Deal. He can’t seem to get all the bad news out at one time. It’s the Chinese water torture. Each day will bring one bad headline after another. Because the chickens are coming home to roost on the career of a man who has tried to enrich himself at our expense. He and we deserve this because we settled for an “R” next to a name rather than for “H” for “honesty.”

You must be so proud of your candidate, Deal.

I voted for Handel in the runoff and I was hoping that she would pull it out for the Republicans. I dont like the baggage that comes with Deal but I will vote for him because its the only way I can express my frustration with the Democrats that control every house in our government. I voted for Zell Miller for governor in the past and I voted for Gore in 2000. But after Obama and Pelosi’s disregard of what the majority of the American people want regarding the healthcare bill I will never trust Democrats ever again.

It seriously frightens me that any of you actually have the right to vote. The fact that any of you believe any thing that’s in either these campaigns is very disturbing. All I know from Roy Barnes’ campaign is that he is not Nathan Deal. With Deal, at least he campaigns on the issues. Its unfortunate that Deal has had so many setbacks recently, but I guarantee that any single one of us would be very reluctant to open our financial records over the last 3 years to the public. So he made a bad investment??? In that case, anyone with a 401k should be ineligible for office for the same reasons. The dems sound like an echo of Barnes’ campaign, tools that they are. Let’s see what you say:
1. All politicians are dishonest.

2. Roy Barnes has a successful law practice and is finacially worth more than Deal.

3. Okay, Deal was a little dishonest; Roy would be more dishonest, you say.

4. Therefore, hold your nose and vote for Deal who won’t steal as much.

If that isn’t the most lame brained “logic” to justify voting for a politician, I don’t know what is.

Now, you are a true Georgia voter and citizen. Deal voted for Medicare D, the biggest social spending program in 40 years against GOP principles. He got nominated anyway.

GOP principles say government works best closest to the people. Deal voted for taking local control away and sending it to Washington DC with No Chuld Left Behind.

Deal voted to gut financial controls, allowing Wall Street fraudsters to loot the life savings of most Americans.

What’s Barnes supposed to do? Sit back and not shoot back? What’s imoportabnt here is that Deal is the producer or generator of his own self-negative ads. Currently, I have several people in my family now battling breast cancer, prostate and lung cancer. So the healthcare bill is very important to me since I face these problems on a daily basis. One person in my family has insurance to help her with her surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation expenses for her battle with breast cancer. I have seen the toll very close up and personal. I know the toll it takes on people and their families and the pain they endure with this battle. I also have one family member that does not have healthcare so we do everything we can to help. I have stated I have no problem with paying more taxes to help people without insurance. I have lost many close family members to cancer so I know the pain they have gone through on a first hand basis. But it is not fair for the government to decide who lives and who dies. People should be able to keep their insurance. Democrats want everyone to have no choice but the public option which is were we will end up. The commercials Barnes is now running – trying to create a fake past and scare us about Deal – only serve to make me dislike him more. Everyone I’ve talked to about it is very turned off by not only the amateur nature of the commercials, but how half truths and even truths are being presented. gaindependent2010, there is no public option in the bill so there is nowhere for people without insurance to go if they don’t buy. You are already paying for the people who don’t have insurance and it will only keep going up. Unfortunately, the problem is that when the insurance company decides you or your family member costs too much money, they find a way not to pay. They are already rationing people’s coverage, not the government. The administration is trying to help you but you just can’t see it. With family in Europe, I cannot tell you how well they are being cared for (prostate cancer) with the latest, most cutting-edge medicine out there. One of the greatest worries is losing your job and and losing medical coverage, then trying to get coverage when you’ve been treated for a major illness before.

Don’t listen to the talking heads. Politicians who are trying their best to stay in their jobs, all have healthcare for life, even when you vote them out, and they have the very best coverage, so believe me, they will always do what the insurance companies want because they need their support. Get information on issues from a variety or resources, especially those you don’t agree with then make your own conclusions. People forget that it’t those nasty liberals that usually let you now when people are putting selling you bad medicine, polluting the drinking water, etc. But you can’t trust them to help you because they are all evil, right!

How does the Government deciding who lives or dies, none of what you are typing isnt anywhere in the final bill that was passed. The Death Panel myth perpetuated by your filter for information Sarah Palin was false then as it is today.

Aren’t insurance companies essentially death panels? When your family member reached their lifetime maximum benefit or they were denied coverage for the next insurance company because of a pre-existing condition, that’s a death panel in the name of profit. Please provide me with a concrete example of a tangible benefit that ins. companies provide to the healthcare system?

The biggest fault that our Government did was that it didnt do enough

Public option was taken out for now. It will be put back in because Pelosi has stated that is her ultimate goal. Everyone can vote for whomoever they like but when all branches of government is ruled by one party there is never a good outcome. America has started following the UK and the UK has just announced “UK Proposes All Paychecks Go to the State First”
http://www.cnbc.com/id/39265847 Check it out for yourselves. This is only the beginning; they start with healthcare and then they want to control the rest of our lives. When employers send our entire checks to the government first and then the government decides how much of our money we should receive then its a sad day for all. I hope everyone has a wonderful day. God Bless.

Karen Handel was the best choice for the Republicans and for Georgia. I felt at the time that the emphasis on her lack of a college degree came mainly from people who had no intention to vote for any Republican, and I still hold that view. Now we have Deal, who is unquestionably ‘damaged goods’, facing Roy Barnes and there is a very real chance that Deal will win the election. Sometimes folks can be too smart by half.

All you folks that still have shackles on your eyes and support Deal will pay for generations to come. If you believe in less government, than don’t take your social security check, vet benefits, unemployment benefits and certainly don’t send your kids to the public schools. What is more government? What is reckless spending? I would think that equals Republican leadership. Under Sonny’s leadership, more state agencies were created, more board positions for his contributors, more senior staff getting huge salaries (Sonny just now gave them raises and promotions); nonsensical legislation with no funding, slashing public education to the tune of two billion dollars, 48th in SAT scores, fishing museums and 500,000 unemployed Georgians. Let’s not add there are no ethics in the state legislature. That’s why your Glenn Richardson’s and Casey Cagle, Mark Butler have been screwing anything that resembles a woman under the gold dome. where is your self righteousness when it comes to ethics? Why in the hell do you want more of the same??? I don’t like some of what Obama has done during his tenure; however, I am smart enough to realize Barnes has nothing to do with what Obama has or will do. Where were you when we spent Billions of dollars in a senseless war in Iraq? Where was your outcry to stop the spending and pork under George W. Bush? How are you losing anything under Obama administration? Stop listening to Fox News and do some research. You are all morons and sadly Georgia will suffer because of your ignorance. Shame on you.

I notice that there are so many posting here who don’t have a clear understanding of the Affordable Care Act, and I know exactly why they are so confused, and the source of the confusion. The ACA is more a set of consumer protections than it is a “takeover” of our healthcare system. The ACA is not socialized medicine. If it were, all of the hospitals would become government owned entities, and all doctors, nurses, and other hospital personnel would be employed by the government as they are in the United Kingdom.

The ACA does not abolish private ownership of hospitals, drug companies, labs, doctor’s offices, etc. The same companies that provide your coverage now, will be the same companies providing the care after the ACA is implemented. The only true government-based healthcare in America is Medicaid, Medicare, and that which exists for our military personnel. Under the ACA, you will NOT be buying your insurance from the federal government if you don’t have insurance. The federal government will work WITH the insurance companies to provide care for you at a reasonable cost/price. The ACA is what most lawmakers and citizens have been calling for: a public/private hybrid healthcare delivery system. You will not be making checks for healthcare to the U.S. government. If you have United Healthcare as an insurer like I do, you’ll still make your payments to United Healthcare. The mandate will NOT affect you if you already have healthcare insurance. One purpose of the mandate is to make sure that those of us who already have health insurance do not end up picking up the entire tab for those who don’t. If we were forced to do it, our taxes would increase by quite a bit. I don’t see it as being unfair to make those who need insurance pay for it. For those who won’t be able to pay the entire amount, the rest of it will be subsidized just as the American taxpayer currently subsidizes over $700/mo for each of our 435 members of Congress who end up paying just a bit over $300/mo for their coverage.

I know the “death panel” lie has played a role in turning some against the ACA, but the ACA doesn’t set up “death panels.” What it does do is study results from millions of doctors who treat the same ailments in diverse patients, and RECOMMENDS treatments that are the most effective in treating the ailment. You and your doctor will STILL have the freedom to decide which treatment you think is best for you. This saves money and lives.

The real “death panels” have been in action for years, though opponents of the ACA don’t/won’t admit it. Whenever an insurance company refuses treatment for a serious medical condition because it looks out for its profits, the person who is denied the treatment is consigned to dying from the condition/illness. I had a digestive problem a few years ago. My doctor wanted to put me on Nexium, but my insurance company turned me down because it deemed the Nexium as being too expensive at the time, and I was a state employee.

It broke my heart to learn a couple weeks ago that a little boy with brain cancer whose parents had two healthcare policies had died because both companies denied him treatment, deeming the treatment “too expensive.” These parents had paid on these policies for years, and when they needed these companies to save their son’s lives, they refused. The insurance companies could depend on these parents to pay for the premiums, but the parents couldn’t depend on the companies to provide treatment for their son. A hospital had to step in and provide the drugs the boy needed, and the insurance companies got away with keeping the parents’ money and using it to satisfy their shareholders’ demands for a greater return on their investment.

The majority of Americans won’t see a difference in their ability to make decisions about their treatment once the ACA is fully implemented. The control over your health will still reside with you and your doctor. You’ll still have your choice of doctors and hospitals to use. No one will ORDER you to accept a specific method of treatment for a medical condition. The ACA still leaves the individual in control to make his/her own healthcare decisions. What the ACA DOES do is make sure that if you pay your premiums and you or your a member of your family gets sick, the insurance companies must pay for your treatment. It also removes the lifetime cap so that should your treatment exceed a certain amount of money, you can continue to be treated for your medical condition. Most Americans never exceed their insurance companies’ liability caps, but knowing that if a family member gets sick and it costs the insurance companies $ 1M to treat him/her, at least you won’t have to worry about him/her being denied treatment, and you won’t have to worry about losing your home to bankruptcy at the same time. This puts consumers in a win-win position: your loved one gets treated and your assets are protected. Consumer protection is what the ACA delivers.

Georgia Needs Mending

Georgia has had it doubly bad for the last 9 years. First (that man tried to kill my daddy) Dubya and our own Yorkshire hog have all but destroyed us. Who in the h*** would elect a veterinarian or a junkyard snake, as divisive as they are, to oversee a state so badly in need of strong and logical leadership. We all do better when we all do better. I am a native Georgian, white and so sick of hearing about Bubba’s Southern ancestor worship and others whose great grandfathers were slaves. It is time to shut-up and come together before the rest of the world totally “eats our lunch”. We all know why Perdue has looked the other way, ignored and encouraged division in our once great state. He’s a racist, like all Republicans who can not conceive of being happy unless they have someone else to make them feel superior. President Obama was sent to us because all we do is fight over lowering the bar. That is all this country has done since President Carter. Time for us to “man up”, really. If you are a liar and a thief, then vote for the person you feel so close to and whose values you embrace. It is not just beezniz. Truet Cathey knows business is all about ethics, it is not seperate. So if you want to vote for the “four letter word” serpent, be sure to put it on a bumper sticker and keep it like the idiots that continue to show the Bush/Cheney sticker. Be proud so the rest of us can have a very good laugh. And one last thing, it would take someone with one billion dollars, spending one thousand dollars a day for 2,700 years to arrive at a zero balance. Still want a tax cut for the top, upper per cent income wise? And you thought only people getting food stamps are welfare driven. LOL
