A new Roy Barnes’ TV ad: Nathan Deal is ‘slippery as a bag of snakes’

Maybe you don’t kick a man when he’s down – but in politics, you sure do stick your leg out if he’s stumbling.

The campaign of Democratic nominee for governor Roy Barnes is out this morning with a new, coffee-shop attack ad on Republican rival Nathan Deal.

We’re told that it’s intended as a parody of an anti-Barnes TV ad issued last week – to absolutely no fanfare – by the Republican Governors Association.

In his reply, Barnes doesn’t mention Deal’s personal finance problems, but – yet again – makes a large point of the former congressman’s Washington connections. Perhaps the most notable aspect of the ad is its target – Deal’s wheelhouse of white male voters.

The Barnes script:

Actor No. 1: You know, times was better when Roy Barnes was governor.

Actor No. 2: Yup. I had a job.

Actor No. 1: He brought in 235,000 jobs.

Actor No. 2: Yup. Made Georgia work.

Actor No. 1: Reduced class sizes.

Actor No. 2: Yup.

Actor No. 1: Shoot, he even lowered my property taxes.

Actor No. 2: So this Washington guy Deal is lying?

Actor No. 1: Slippery as a bag of snakes.

Actor No. 2: I guess we can call him a shady Deal.

Male voiceover: Nathan Deal. Too corrupt, even for Congress.

Here’s the RGA ad:

The script:

Actor No. 3: Remember Roy Barnes?

Actor No. 4: Yep.

Actor No. 3: Remember how arrogant Roy was back when he was governor?

Actor No. 4: Yeah.

Actor No. 3: And remember how he made Georgia last, dead last, in education?

Actor No. 4: Yeah.

Actor No. 3: And remember how Georgia led the nation in job losses?

Actor No. 4: Yeah.

Actor No. 3: And then he tried to blame everybody but himself.

Actor No. 4: I remember.

Actor No. 3: Then you remember King Roy.

Actor No. 4: I wish I could forget.

Male voiceover: Roy Barnes. Once was enough.

Let me get this straight……Barnes, a high profile ambulance chasing attorney (yes, he will sue your pants off–check the record)…..is calling Deal “as slippery as a bag of snakes”???? That’s like Bill Clinton accusing another President of ‘disrespecting the Oval office. i wouldn’t trust barnes to walk my grandmother across the street!

@gaindependent2010 I am sorry that I accused you of being a Deal staffer. If you are serious about having a Real Republican party, the only choice is John Monds. Corrupt Deal is the sum total of what is wrong with the RINO party. It is actually an insult to the RINO party but he got the nomination by the support of those legislators who were afraid of a Honest Woman like Karen Handel.

Send the RINO leaders a message vote MONDS.

Watch what happens if the US Justice Dept indicts Deal. The partisans will say it’s part of a Democrat-inspired conspiracy. And everytime you here about the George Soros group who listed Deal among a group of the most corrupt in Congress, they fail to mention that there were 8 Democrats listed along with 7 Republicans. (By the way, the list of Democrats has been updated to include Francine Waters and Chaley Rangle). I guess that means that Democrat-led conspirators were willing to name more than their own just to get to these innocent, misunderstood Republicans.

WAKE UP, FOOLS ! Your heroes are crooks.

Hey, delaindependent2010, td, UGA75, Matt D and all the rest of you blind partisans…why don’t you answer Aqualgirl’s questions @ 12:06 PM???????? Can’t answer them, right?

Do you support The Republican votes for Medicare D-Prescription Drug program — the vote where there was no money appropriated to pay for it… Or how about the billions of dollars spent to finance the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan??? Those expenditures were also unfunded and not carried on the budget books. Votes for those expenditures were taken when the Republicans had control of Congress and the Whitehouse. What about thiose votes? Were they okay?

The truth is there is NOTHING that can be uncovered about Deal that would make many of us think he’s worse than the King Rat. The Dems seriously miscalculated how deeply Roy is disliked by a majority of voters. Count me in the group that will vote for Deal no matter what comes out.

The commercials Barnes is now running – trying to create a fake past and scare us about Deal – only serve to make me dislike him more. Everyone I’ve talked to about it is very turned off by not only the amateur nature of the commercials, but how half truths and even truths are being presented. For example, the information about resigning at midnight is just silly. Resigning effective the end of the day makes sense for many reasons. The way Barnes presents it only makes Barnes look foolish.

If Deal were to ‘get in’ (notice I didn’t say ‘get elected’, since the only way that crook can win is if ‘the fix is in, again’), then come 2014 – assuming he didn’t step down and hand it over to ‘the other chicken-man, Cagle – they’ll have to rewrite the history books. The piece will be entitled, ‘Only once before have so few stolen so much from so many’…Uncle Marvin’s got to be spinning with the thought of this guy going after the record…and Deal doesn’t even have a brother named Cheney to do the deed, he’ll do it all himself, thank you.

gaindependent2010, there is no public option in the bill so there is nowhere for people without insurance to go if they don’t buy. You are already paying for the people who don’t have insurance and it will only keep going up. Unfortunately, the problem is that when the insurance company decides you or your family member costs too much money, they find a way not to pay. They are already rationing people’s coverage, not the government. The administration is trying to help you but you just can’t see it. With family in Europe, I cannot tell you how well they are being cared for (prostate cancer) with the latest, most cutting-edge medicine out there. One of the greatest worries is losing your job and and losing medical coverage, then trying to get coverage when you’ve been treated for a major illness before.

Don’t listen to the talking heads. Politicians who are trying their best to stay in their jobs, all have healthcare for life, even when you vote them out, and they have the very best coverage, so believe me, they will always do what the insurance companies want because they need their support. Get information on issues from a variety or resources, especially those you don’t agree with then make your own conclusions. People forget that it’t those nasty liberals that usually let you now when people are putting selling you bad medicine, polluting the drinking water, etc. But you can’t trust them to help you because they are all evil, right!

How does the Government deciding who lives or dies, none of what you are typing isnt anywhere in the final bill that was passed. The Death Panel myth perpetuated by your filter for information Sarah Palin was false then as it is today.

Aren’t insurance companies essentially death panels? When your family member reached their lifetime maximum benefit or they were denied coverage for the next insurance company because of a pre-existing condition, that’s a death panel in the name of profit. Please provide me with a concrete example of a tangible benefit that ins. companies provide to the healthcare system?

The biggest fault that our Government did was that it didnt do enough

Public option was taken out for now. It will be put back in because Pelosi has stated that is her ultimate goal. Everyone can vote for whomoever they like but when all branches of government is ruled by one party there is never a good outcome. America has started following the UK and the UK has just announced “UK Proposes All Paychecks Go to the State First”
http://www.cnbc.com/id/39265847 Check it out for yourselves. This is only the beginning; they start with healthcare and then they want to control the rest of our lives. When employers send our entire checks to the government first and then the government decides how much of our money we should receive then its a sad day for all. I hope everyone has a wonderful day. God Bless.

Karen Handel was the best choice for the Republicans and for Georgia. I felt at the time that the emphasis on her lack of a college degree came mainly from people who had no intention to vote for any Republican, and I still hold that view. Now we have Deal, who is unquestionably ‘damaged goods’, facing Roy Barnes and there is a very real chance that Deal will win the election. Sometimes folks can be too smart by half.

All you folks that still have shackles on your eyes and support Deal will pay for generations to come. If you believe in less government, than don’t take your social security check, vet benefits, unemployment benefits and certainly don’t send your kids to the public schools. What is more government? What is reckless spending? I would think that equals Republican leadership. Under Sonny’s leadership, more state agencies were created, more board positions for his contributors, more senior staff getting huge salaries (Sonny just now gave them raises and promotions); nonsensical legislation with no funding, slashing public education to the tune of two billion dollars, 48th in SAT scores, fishing museums and 500,000 unemployed Georgians. Let’s not add there are no ethics in the state legislature. That’s why your Glenn Richardson’s and Casey Cagle, Mark Butler have been screwing anything that resembles a woman under the gold dome. where is your self righteousness when it comes to ethics? Why in the hell do you want more of the same??? I don’t like some of what Obama has done during his tenure; however, I am smart enough to realize Barnes has nothing to do with what Obama has or will do. Where were you when we spent Billions of dollars in a senseless war in Iraq? Where was your outcry to stop the spending and pork under George W. Bush? How are you losing anything under Obama administration? Stop listening to Fox News and do some research. You are all morons and sadly Georgia will suffer because of your ignorance. Shame on you.

I notice that there are so many posting here who don’t have a clear understanding of the Affordable Care Act, and I know exactly why they are so confused, and the source of the confusion. The ACA is more a set of consumer protections than it is a “takeover” of our healthcare system. The ACA is not socialized medicine. If it were, all of the hospitals would become government owned entities, and all doctors, nurses, and other hospital personnel would be employed by the government as they are in the United Kingdom.

The ACA does not abolish private ownership of hospitals, drug companies, labs, doctor’s offices, etc. The same companies that provide your coverage now, will be the same companies providing the care after the ACA is implemented. The only true government-based healthcare in America is Medicaid, Medicare, and that which exists for our military personnel. Under the ACA, you will NOT be buying your insurance from the federal government if you don’t have insurance. The federal government will work WITH the insurance companies to provide care for you at a reasonable cost/price. The ACA is what most lawmakers and citizens have been calling for: a public/private hybrid healthcare delivery system. You will not be making checks for healthcare to the U.S. government. If you have United Healthcare as an insurer like I do, you’ll still make your payments to United Healthcare. The mandate will NOT affect you if you already have healthcare insurance. One purpose of the mandate is to make sure that those of us who already have health insurance do not end up picking up the entire tab for those who don’t. If we were forced to do it, our taxes would increase by quite a bit. I don’t see it as being unfair to make those who need insurance pay for it. For those who won’t be able to pay the entire amount, the rest of it will be subsidized just as the American taxpayer currently subsidizes over $700/mo for each of our 435 members of Congress who end up paying just a bit over $300/mo for their coverage.

I know the “death panel” lie has played a role in turning some against the ACA, but the ACA doesn’t set up “death panels.” What it does do is study results from millions of doctors who treat the same ailments in diverse patients, and RECOMMENDS treatments that are the most effective in treating the ailment. You and your doctor will STILL have the freedom to decide which treatment you think is best for you. This saves money and lives.

The real “death panels” have been in action for years, though opponents of the ACA don’t/won’t admit it. Whenever an insurance company refuses treatment for a serious medical condition because it looks out for its profits, the person who is denied the treatment is consigned to dying from the condition/illness. I had a digestive problem a few years ago. My doctor wanted to put me on Nexium, but my insurance company turned me down because it deemed the Nexium as being too expensive at the time, and I was a state employee.

It broke my heart to learn a couple weeks ago that a little boy with brain cancer whose parents had two healthcare policies had died because both companies denied him treatment, deeming the treatment “too expensive.” These parents had paid on these policies for years, and when they needed these companies to save their son’s lives, they refused. The insurance companies could depend on these parents to pay for the premiums, but the parents couldn’t depend on the companies to provide treatment for their son. A hospital had to step in and provide the drugs the boy needed, and the insurance companies got away with keeping the parents’ money and using it to satisfy their shareholders’ demands for a greater return on their investment.

The majority of Americans won’t see a difference in their ability to make decisions about their treatment once the ACA is fully implemented. The control over your health will still reside with you and your doctor. You’ll still have your choice of doctors and hospitals to use. No one will ORDER you to accept a specific method of treatment for a medical condition. The ACA still leaves the individual in control to make his/her own healthcare decisions. What the ACA DOES do is make sure that if you pay your premiums and you or your a member of your family gets sick, the insurance companies must pay for your treatment. It also removes the lifetime cap so that should your treatment exceed a certain amount of money, you can continue to be treated for your medical condition. Most Americans never exceed their insurance companies’ liability caps, but knowing that if a family member gets sick and it costs the insurance companies $ 1M to treat him/her, at least you won’t have to worry about him/her being denied treatment, and you won’t have to worry about losing your home to bankruptcy at the same time. This puts consumers in a win-win position: your loved one gets treated and your assets are protected. Consumer protection is what the ACA delivers.
