Jack Kingston: Sarah Palin should ‘butt out’ of state races

On the nationally syndicated “America’s Morning News” – an FM/AM talk show – U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston was drawn into a Wednesday morning discussion of Georgia’s Republican runoff for governor.

Would you have preferred that Sarah Palin butt out of it, Kingston was asked? “I wish she will,” Kingston said. But never mind the grammar – it was live radio. He continued:

“Because what’s she’s doing is dividing the Republican party at a time when we don’t need to be divided.

“Because in a case like this, really what people were saying – ‘Well, she’s endorsing Karen Handel because she’s a woman.’ [Palin] got up on stage on Monday and said, ‘I’m not doing it because she’s a woman – although she is a sister.’ You know — wink, wink.

“And I understand that. But what it does is, it makes Republicans say, well, maybe we do need to rethink Karen Han – I mean, Sarah Palin, as somebody who does shoot from the hip a little bit too much. Because I think Karen Handel is a very decent candidate, but she’s clearly the more moderate person in the race….”

Listen to the entire eight-minute clip here.

Kingston was a Deal supporter – after his first pick, Eric Johnson of Savannah, finished third.

The congressman’s comments were made before Handel’s concession, and before the curtain of healing was drawn over the Republican contest. Kingston did not mention Mitt Romney’s endorsement of Handel, nor Mike Huckabee’s backing of Nathan Deal.

But reader Clay Grant of Virginia-Highlands, not a Palin fan, sent in thoughts similar to those of Kingston, also as Wednesday began:

As of this morning moment, Deal is winning by 2,489 votes out of roughly 579,000 votes cast. There were 2,895 precincts.

So I’m wondering: Were there enough “anti-Sarah” votes made (like ours) to have probably given this primary to Deal over Handel?

Since that would require less than one anti-Sarah vote per precinct, I’m thinking the answer is probably “yes.”

I hate him for that.

And also, Sarah can go wherever she wants – THIS IS STILL A FREE COUNTRY, for now at least.

One of the concerns I had about this particular race was the number of out-of-state endorsements. Newt Gringrich hasn’t lived here for years. Sarah Palin has never lived here. Jan Brewer is a “one-issue” politician. Who are they to tell me as a GA resident who will best make sure my teacher wife’s furlough days will end next year or that my son will continue to receive a quality education? Answer-they can’t!

Why national conservative political activists would step into a conservative run-off is beyond me. I can see endorsements in the general election along party lines, but these run-off endorsements were a bit odd.

Handel holds very right wing views, but not as extreme as Deal? Means she’s a moderate, a pretender, unworthy.

And that’s scary.

I don’t know why Kingston complains about Palin. She knows as much about Georgia as he does (which is nothing). He clearly has no understanding of the financial makeup and needs of his own district. He keeps selling the hard line that may fit some areas of the state and country, but doesn’t fit his.

I wish we could get ONE decent person into one office. They are all bad for us. Deal helped put us in the mess we are in and Handel might have been the lesser of two evils, but she’s not qualified. Roy has proven he is an incapable governor, but Sonny squandered two terms on partisan payback. Now we’re stuck with the lesser of two lawyers.

I totally agree with Jack Kingston. Sarah was not needed in this race but would have been more than welcome to campaign for the Primary winner against the Democrat nominee.

If there is anyone who don’t think (wink, wink) that she was supporting the “sister” because of her plumbing then I’d like to have some of what you’re smoking.

Sarah lost a fan, a supporter, and a financial backer with her meddling in our Primaries.

I’m curious as to why Kingston only picked Palin. If it were truly about outside influences why not tell ALL outsiders to take a hike? Strange he did not go off on Newt, Mitt, Huck, and all the others. Newt is not “one of us”. He’s been living in metro DC for a decade now. If Kingston has a problem with outsiders he needs to call all of them out. This seems more like a personal gripe rather than a principled one and shows pettiness and childish behavior. I doubt any of the outside endorsers really care what Kingston says. And I’m willing to bet if his butt was on the line and he needed something to carry him over the top, he’d be on the phone right quick. Coming from someone who wanted to be in this race, he has some serious personal issues to work out.

I’m from Kingston’s district. The district is the poorest in the state, yet Kingston is worried about annual unearned income over $200,000. Only four counties of 25 aren’t in the bottom half of Georgia’s counties in per capita income. Three are in the bottom 10, including #1 (Wheeler) and #2 (Telfair).

And though the lawsuit was ultimately dropped, several counties in the district also sued the DOE for lack of school funds a few years ago. Kingston did not and has not fought for anything in that department, either.

Retired Soldier

Len- I haven’t researched this but I would bet Sanford Bishop’s district is poorer than Kingston”s.

Why shouldn’t he be worried about unearned income over 200k, most members of Congress can work on many things at the same time.

The lawsuit you mention was not against the federal DOE it was a suit against the state DOE. Hence a state matter not a federal matter. Kingston shouldn’t have involved in it.

You need to do better Len before you slam someone without enough facts.

I think the distinction that must be made is that Sarah Palin is the loudest and most celebrated political figure in America today, besides the President. She is known as a divisive figure. She issued this endorsement not on behalf of Handel, but on behalf of herself, and anyone with half a brain knows it. She didn’t even know Handel. She took a gamble in the hopes that the candidate that she “bet” on would be the candidate that won, thus increasing her visibility and momentum as she eyes whatever goal it is that she is working toward, most likely money. Romney is also simply looking to stay in the national political conversation, to keep his opportunities for 2012 open.

Huckabee didn’t give an endorsement until AFTER Palin did, most likely out of necessity. He doesn’t stick his nose in everyone’s business like Palin does, and even more importantly, both he and Gingrich actually KNOW Nathan Deal.

Two totally different situations.

All they ever do down there is sponge off of Metro Atlanta’s tax dollars like they have an entitlement. It makes me sick that such a welfare mentality exists in parts of Georgia. Whats worse is when one of the hicks says something stupid like “I don’t want my tax dollars going to help MARTA,” at the same time their hand is out for another Metro Atlanta handout. What a stupid comment. Is his intention to antagonize the Handel and Palin voters into not voting for Deal. Of course it’s perfectly okay for Tom Tancrendo or Mike Huckabee to butt into a Georgia election, but not Sarah Palin. It’s also just fine for Newt Gingrich to head up to New York and screw up a GOP Primary, ensuring a Democrat win.

What they are mad about, is Palin was more effective and attracted more attention then their out of state endorsements. But why they are mad is a mystery to me. Guys, your candidate won. But it certainly wasn’t by a big enough margin to have such a whiny, sour-grapes attitude.

Statistics come from here:
http://www.georgiastats.uga.edu/crossection.html

Counties belonging to more than one district are counted in each district as no stats divide them up further.

2nd district: average 2007 per capita income $24,735. average rank 68 (from bottom)
1st district: average 2007 per capita income $24,309. average rank 56 (from bottom)

Yes, I know the suit was against the state BOE, but it’s not like Kingston has no stake in area interests. I can remember him gallivanting on Dr. Phil a few years ago about an amnesiac who turned up in Savannah.

The state evenly sends funds by population. The poor counties said that it was not fair because rich counties had more money to spend from their county tax dollars. I saw the Palin Handel rally and it really was disturbing. We are speaking of governing the 10th largest state in the nation based on population, not selecting Senior Class Superlatives for the annual. Although I supported Nathan, I really felt bad for Karen. Karen is a smart, competent person and it shows. Ms. Palin looked juvenile. Her comments were juvenile. At any moment I thought she was going to step back from the podium and give a high leg kick and yell “Go Team”. It was disconcerting and not in keeping, in the least, with Karen’s image as a professional, competent manager. Sarah Palin is an inch deep and a mile wide. I hate to say it, but she just doesn’t have the mental horses or the mental discipline to do anything other than what she is doing now, which is flying around, making vapid statements and collecting a check. In all sincerity, I really did feel bad for Karen having to sit there and listen and applaud the stupid b.s. she was throwing out about she and the first dude and how Atlanta was “like, really hot compared to Alaska – now I really know what Hotlanta means”. How much longer will we have to endure Miss Palin and her simplistic view of life? This nation faces big problems that require serious people to address them – Ms. Handel has proven herself to be a serious person – a competent manager and executive – I think she made a tragic mistake to get this ninny from Alaska to come in and wing it with a crappy speach that was substance free, to say the least. On this note, I think Ms. Handel, who otherwise ran a really disciplined campaign, got some bum campaign advice.

Hey, Retired Soldier, some of us veterans don’t feel you speak for us. In fact, all these tough talking hard asses have conveniently forgotten to go to a recruituing office and join up like a lot of us did. They talk tough, but will let some other sucker fight the war for them, the cowards they are. Alex is right. You vote against your own interests when you vote for Republicans. Maybe you can expalin to me how on one day, Karen Handel is publicly calling Deal “a corrupt relic of Washington, D.C.,” but he next she’s willing to endorse him as our next “great Governor.” Was she lying then when she called him “corrupt” or is she lying now since she’s apparently willing to endorse him? You Republicans have no right to call yourselves upholders of morality when you offer candidates, to name a few, like Deal, Handel, Oxendine, McBerry and Preston Smith (Mr. Family Values and Christian candidate for Attorney Gebneral caught by his wife in the act of “goinking” one of his staffers.) If this is your version of moral leadership, we’re in worase trouble in this country than I ever thought we were.

Alex-

It’s not so much I’m settled on Deal, my first choice E.Johnson didn’t make the run off. Like I posted earlier, Barnes is your typical liberal democrat, nothing wrong w/ that if that’s what you like. Deal may have some challenges, I hope not. If he does he’ll withdraw and the party will pick a new candidate. Have a great day and wasn’t that a hell of a win for the Braves yesterday.

The hypocrisy is nauseating.
One day “a corrupt relic of Washington D.C.” the next day “[the candidate has] called on all who were supporting her to give their same commitment and energy to [the person called "a corrupt relic of Washington D.C.."]

The Democrats gave everthing except the kitchen sink to the Republicans on health care and the stimulus should have been much larger.

To suggest that Sarah Palin, or any American citizen should just butt out is wrong, being an American means that any citizen can speak up, and endorse anybodt that they choose. Would he also suggest that the HollyWood liberals just butt out as well.. I doubt it, its these people who think like this that only want their voice to be heard and nobody’s else… That isnt American

Pork King Jack Kingston should be the one to butt out of primaries. Eh is part of the good ole boy network in Georgia. What else would you expect from him?

I was at the Buckhead rally monday. Comparing plain jane Handel to a dynamo like Palin was not flattering to Mrs. Handel.
Could it be that people are getting tired of Sarah Palin?

Guys I observed this posted at my web site recently, what are your thoughts over a subject? Can you point me as well some far better guides on a subject?

Its all regarding how to grow weed indoors. The site linked also has some information that is quite useful.

Marijuana is often a good herb that grows naturally all over the planet. Unfortunately it’s still illegal to grow marijuana in quite a few countries. Please examine your local laws just before growing marijuana. With that said, letâ??s get growing!

Itâ??s a general consensus that growing herb is most effective done using a beneficial hydro system. Hydroponics could be the program of growing a plant without soil. You’ll find a couple of a variety of ways to grow with hydro, but regardless you need to select up some supplies. Very first and foremost you would like a light source to grow your herb. There are many technologies available and I am going to break down the benefits and disadvantages of every for you.

The cheapest and most inefficient light source is compact fluorescent lighting (CFL). You will find a couple of different styles of CFL lighting. Some men and women grow marijuana with CFL light bulbs. You are able to pick these up at the grocery store and also a splitter at your local hardware store. Itâ??s a beneficial idea to strive for at least the 100 watt bulbs simply because a thing less isn’t giving off ample light. Preserve in mind that these are not particularly efficient so you would like as many as 8 or a lot more to grow and flower 3 plants. Another kind of CFL lighting stands out as the shop light style. These have a metal bracket used being a reflector and also the bulbs themselves are extended and cylindrical. This sort of lighting is really a small far more efficient than the CFL bulb but even now not ideal for growing marijuana. Whichever style of CFL bulb you choose, strive for the bluest temperature for vegetative growth and the warmest color light for flowering.

The next lighting kind is Metal Halide (MH). You see metal halide lights anytime you leave your household out night, as thatâ??s what most street lights use. Metal halide lighting works by converting power with a ballast after which delivering it to an HID bulb. This lighting sort is quite great for vegetative growth but not so much for flowering. These systems use very plenty of electricity and give off significant heat so you ought to always use MH in conjunction with beneficial ventilation.

Why discriminate against Sarah Palin? Why not tell Huckabee to butt out?

Oh, yeah, because Huck was supporting Jack’s guy.

Pathetic. Kingston is the one dividing people.

As for Handel, if it hadn’t been for Palin, she never would have gotten as close as she did.

Meanwhile, good luck with Deal. The Democrats only have ten billion attack ads ready for him.

One more thing.

I know a lady who lives in Georgia. She was a Democrat until Palin came along. Because of Palin she decided to give the GOP a chance.

She said that Jack’s comments were exactly why she was a Democrat for over twenty years. She also refuses now to vote for Deal. Nice goin’, Jack. Talk about division.

Jack has become part of the problem, an entrenched DC insider. I wasn’t going to vote FOR him this time; now I definitely will vote AGAINST him. Jacko has go to go after nearly 20 years. He’s become wealthy off the backs of taxpayers, and delivers the military pork to 1GA with an efficiency unmatched by the late Kleagle Byrd.

“Now I don’t have to live in the disgust of having Karen Handel as governor for the next four years.”

Nope, you’ll get to relive another 4 years of idiot King Roy.

Thanks a lot you scum sucking public school teacher.

It’s obvious that the divide between Idiots on the left and normal Americans is too wide to reconcile, so let’s quit wasting time and just start the Civil War already. Bye bye liberals.
