The statement just arrived from her campaign:
I want to thank all of my friends, supporters, volunteers and my campaign team for a tremendous effort over the last 16 months. We ran a terrific campaign, beat the odds to come in first place in the Primary, and came so very close in the runoff election.
As of this morning, we are four tenths of a percentage point behind Nathan Deal with absentee ballots and overseas military votes yet to be counted.
We certainly have the option of requesting the automatic statewide recount. But we are not going to do that.
The best thing for our party is to rally around Congressman Deal as our nominee in the fight against Roy Barnes. Barnes would return Georgia to a past that is best kept in our rearview mirror. We must marshal all of our resources to defeat him.
I spoke with Nathan this morning and let him know that I endorse his candidacy and look forward to the fight against Barnes. I have also called on all who were supporting me to give their same commitment and energy to Nathan.
I thank the people of Georgia for the opportunity to serve them and for allowing me to interview for the job of Governor. This was an amazing journey, and the friendships that Steve and I made enriched our lives immeasurably. I look forward to finding a way to serve this great state in the future.

The past with Barnes as Governor, was better than the last 8 years of boat ramps, gridlock on highways, and the pummeling of education in this state. The freaking governor is leaving office richer than he was when he started. Guess is the legacy that Deal wants to continue.

Hahahaha! (just laughing with the thinking people about the election choices)!
Georgia circles the drain. Gay-bashing certainly provided the victory here, probably helped by the fact that Handel wanted to permit abortions in the many cases where a GA daddy/uncle/cousin/brother knocked up their niece/sister/momma/aunt/cousin.

As an independent voter, I threw my support to Nathan Deal in the primary but in the General, Roy looks like the smarter choice. Barnes ran a good shop here in Georgia and the GOP governor outgoing did some things that were kind of questionable – like that time he stoppped all schoolbus routes to save gas, that ended up making me miss three days work babysitting my kids at home. That was a real slick move. Saved the state ten bucks. Lost me three hundred. So, although I supported Nathan – I’m listening to both sides in this one come fall.

“Our state cannot afford 4 more years of Roy Barnes.”
Yes our bank failures are good for the state. Our ethics are proudly displayed by Glenn Richardson. Corporate tax breaks to Sonny and Linger longer have been a boon to the state. Lobbyists are great at writing their own legislation. Wiping out corporate taxes have saved education. Pray for Rain ended the water wars. Pay day lender deregulation has been a great asset to our soldiers stationed here that deserve to pay 100% interest. Sunday sales are an abomination. The end of the $300 a year Homestead exemption was wonderful. The threat of secret implants is over. Ethics laws are overrated. Transportation problems in Metro Atlanta are a myth.
Please voters. Save us from Roy Barnes.

The GOP fight song – isn’t there something along the lines of the Barney kid’s program tune with the words subbed as “I hate you, you hate me, let’s tie…
It should be “Barney” to a tree~

Sad day for Georgia. Nathan Deal is everything we say we want to get rid of. Thanks Karen for showing some class. I’ll start my voting below the Governor tab. I refuse to be a part of voting in a part of the problem that plagues this nation on the state and national level. What a shame that we have to choose between a creep and boob. Ga/s long dark journey that began to be more noticeable a couple of years before Sonny came along with promises to restore the Rebel flag and prevent the teachers from being smart enough to teach now accelerates. Seccession is a great idea; you do not want the liberal race-mixers and homo-lovers in other parts of the country holding back your great progress in the race to the bottom.

What a shame.
Although I will vote this fall, I cannot vote for Nathan Deal and do not think that Roy Barnes is a viable alternative. I know all the arguements (not voting is a vote for Roy Barnes, etc) but to vote for Nathan Deal is to validate his misbehavior and I will not do this.
I understand the highly partisan nature of a campaign and also understand why Ms. Handel has endorsed a candidate that she has worked so hard to expose as being corrupt. This is one reason why I could never consider any elective office that requires political party identification.
I believe, unlike most, that Sarah Palin’s highly visible support actually worked against Ms. Handel. Ms. Palin appears to be very popular but not taken too seriously as a person willing to work hard, learn and understand the issues and provide much more than clever sound bites to the debate. Although I find her highly entertaining and almost always in agreement, I would never consider voting for her for president when there are so many solid conservatives to chose from.
I will vote “down ticket” but will leave the gubernatorial line blank.

This is so ironic.
Back when Sonny was campaigning for his first term he openly courted the gay vote. Contrary to popular belief there are many conservative gay people. Sonny made a few speeches at a gay business group that has thousands of members. Sonny won a very close race.
Karen on the other hand bad mouthed gays. No way were conservative gays were going to vote for her. She ended up losing by just a few thousand votes. Had she kept her mouth shut she just might have won the nomination.
Oh well.

Georgia Republicans made a real mistake yesterday. Handel was the only one of the bunch with any skills, any class or any ability to beat Roy Barnes. Nathan Deal is just another in the line of money-seeking politicians that care nothing about anything but what is in it for them. Karen seemed sincerely interested in making a difference in Georgia. Not that I agreed with her policy ideas, but at least she seemed real and motivated to move Georgia. Deal would do absolutely nothing to help with any of the problems facing Georgia today. He is plainly CLUELESS because he spends all of his time worrying about what is in it for him. Go ahead Georgia, elect Deal. And the rest of the country will be laughing at us again when our Governor is arrested on corruption charges just like Blago in Illinois. I love my home state, but so many people here are extremely ignorant.

When Karen stated that Sarah P. was her “inspiration” that did it for me. It was sad to see her sink to such a low level. Has Karen ever finished out a term of anything she has run for and won? Another Sarah.

I am truly sorry Handel has lost. What I am even more sorry about is the lack of voter turnout. Approximately 9 million people live in the state of Georgia and less than 600,000 votes? What is wrong with people? You should be ashamed if you didn’t vote and don’t you dare ever complain about the government. Ignorance is rampant in Georgia. Anyone else notice the lines for section 8 housing, yet NO ONE had to stand in line to vote??? Obviously the dems have November locked up.

I’ve voted as a Democrat in past elections for governor, but I can appreciate a good political race when I see one. This is a first class move by Handel not to challenge the election. Now… having said that, I think she shot herself in her “mama grizzly paw” by having Sarah Palin campaign for her. I doubt Palin made a much of a difference in rural Georgia, but likely cost her at least 3,000 votes from educated Republicans in Metro Atlanta who see Palin as less than capable. I’d be interested in what the exit polls say about that.
If I were Barnes advisor, I’d focus attention on the Libertarian candidate. GOPers may like him better than Deal and his allegations of bad ethics. Take votes away from Deal, and a Barnes win is a real possibility.

Classy move but I still would have asked for the recount since the results were within the 1% margin of difference state law requires. Too much time, money, and effort has been expended to do otherwise with plenty of time left to unify around one candidate as voters are focused on back to school matters for the next few weeks and a recount wouldn’t take more than two weeks.
Given the total number of votes cast in Georgia’s GOP primary and runoff, Barnes has a severe uphill battle and no matter how folksy and homespun he tries to spin his lingo, its harder to row against that tidal wave of votes.
And, hopefully, a Palin endorsement is no longer perceived as invincible. State residents ought to be able to make up their own minds no matter who comes to town (be it Palin, Romney, Huckabee, etc.).

I love how Barnes wants to pin the problems of the economy on the other party when it’s the Dem’s in Washington that have cause these problems nationwide not just in Georgia. If you’re considering Barnes in November do some research on his last term as Governor. Remember Georgia had elected nothing but Democratic Governors for about 150 years running until King Roy alienated most of Georgia and lost to an underfunded and barely (at the time) heard of opponent.

I am pretty sure you aren’t practicing what you preach, no wait, you do practice what you preach – hate. The list of laws includes many having to do with relationships, from honoring parents (19:3) to loving the aliens who live among the Israelites (19:33-34). To “be holy” has to do with treating other people with justice and mercy, caring for the poor (19:9-10), being honest (19:11-13, 35-36), having respect for elders (19:32), and, in general, acting with moral and ethical integrity.

Roy tore apart the history of georgia against the will of the people without blinking an eye. Roy is for big government and will be Obamas clone. Is that not what most of us are figing against right now?
If you want to move forward then you dont go back and re-elect a governor who most could not wait to be thrown out of office. If you re-elect him then you deserve all the job-losses and higher taxes he will bring. Oh and dont forget the water you may want to drink. He has no clue but worse yet, simply doesnt care. It’s pretty sad that all these people that are commenting on here, are wasting all that unnecessary energy complaining! no matter which of these two people get into are government office, It’s start from the top down in with are great nation leaders! until we all as a nation come together as one, and do the back ground checks, an ground work, on the fine men and women they say they are, that want to campaign for the leadership position of are great country! then dig deep! into the lives of these folk’s, before they are allowed to campaign, you will find that allot of these people that want to run, will run the other way once they know, that there dirty laundry will be thrown out into the public eye first! if they choose to run for a government job or position. It’s only fair to the American people to truly know who we are putting into office, let’s do are home work! and get are country turned around! We only show weakness to are surrounding Countries, by arguing with each other, we need to always show and know, that we are the Greatist country in the world to live in.

Voting for Nathan Deal amounts to putting your head in the red Georgia clay because you don’t want to hear about how corrupt he really is. Kinda reminds me of OX and Mitch Skandalkis. GOPers will not vote for Deal knowing what he has said and done.

Am very enthusiastic (sarcasm) — a choice between a has been ex Governor and a fossilized former Congressman! Two Jurassic era candidates! I would take Skandalakis any day over either of them, at least he had fresh ideas and a fighting spirit! So what he lied to the feds, so did Martha Stewart, big deal. Wonder what type of deal Handel made to concede so quickly, time will tell, time will tell……..

Despite the loss suffered most unfairly by the righteous Sarah Palin, I have prayed and the LORD has instructed me to offer my support to the newly annointed GOP SAVIOR, NATHAN DEAL.
Roy Barnes is unfit to lead this great state. Look only to those that have crowned him “King Roy” and you will see that he and his followers want to supplant the ONE TRUE KING – JESUS CHRIST – with a cross-eyed mop-top secular humanist.
Roy Barnes is the DEVIL INCARNATE.
HE WILL ABORT YOUR CHILDREN UNLESS THEY AGREE TO SPEAK MEXICAN.
HE WILL FORCE YOUR SONS TO MARRY ONE ANOTHER.
HE WILL ALLOW THE ATLANTA FILTH TO ENTER OUR GODLY COUNTIES.
HE WILL MAKE US SIT AT THE TABLE WITH THE UNWASHED MEXICANS.
HE WILL ENCOURAGE THE GAYS TO FORNICATE IN PUBLIC.
HE WILL RAISE TAXES ON CHURCHES.
HE WILL DESTROY ALL THAT WE HOLD DEAR.
This is a HOLY WAR.
And also, he is a lawyer and lawyers always cause trouble.

I just could not bring myself to vote for Handel after she had the opportunity to denounce the vote threatening Georgia to secede from the United States, and elected not to do so. She is to close to al Quaeda for my taste.

Once I read that Handel didn’t have a college degree, I didn’t care about her views on a single issue affecting this state. I just couldn’t see having a Governor without at least a Bachelor’s degree.
She should have taken night classes and finished her degree, and should do so now if Deal lets her have evenings off in whatever appt he’s going to give her. Even an online degree is better than NO degree. How could I have told my 3 kids that it was so important to get a college degree if the Governor didn’t even have a degree. I mean really!!

By law, Karen Handel can demand a recount of the votes. But Handel apparently doesn’t have the tenacity or the will to fight for her legal rights. SHE’S A QUITTER. Surprise! Just like Sarah Palin is a quitter. Surprise!
Handel’s lack of tenacity would have been a huge negative as governor. Georgians are lucky she bowed out of the race. Thanks Karen for doing Georgians a favor. You’re showing your true stripes.
I would suggest Ms. Handel return to college and obtain a degree. A good fit for her may be long distance learning online instead of a bricks and mortar degree.

I find it amusing that the small minority of liberals in this state believe Barnes has a snowball’s chance in hell. This is the reddest of the red states and Barnes is a proven failure of the Georgia Democrat Party. The people in this state are filtering with secession due to failed policies of the Obama administation. They are not going to elect an Obama lapdog, which is what Barnes amounts to. Deal wins with almost 60% of the vote-take that to the bank.

i would have rather had a candidate with no college degree than the two we are offered now. Both have college degrees and both are stupid and have no common sense let alone ethics. There are people without degrees who are more well read than some of these Yay-hoos. Like i said before, most are in for their own monetary gratification and could care less about you or me. You people need to get over your egos and start looking at the human being and how they live. Have any of you read Sarah Palin’s book? She is me only she had much less than I did growing up and she is human. Not presidential material, but could be a queen maker. Wake up – we need a woman who has values, ethics and cares.
