Mitt Romney will endorse Karen Handel in GOP runoff

It’s official now. Mitt Romney has become the second 2008 presidential candidate weigh in on the Republican race for governor — on the side of Karen Handel.

Handel made no endorsement in the 2008 presidential contest — because of her position as secretary of state. But in his courtship of her, Romney arranged for Donny Osmond to give her a phone call.

Little girl screams echoed through the state Capitol, legend says.

Romney came in third behind Mike Huckabee and John McCain in the ‘08 presidential primary in Georgia. Here’s the info from the Handel campaign:

“A successful businesswoman and public servant, Karen Handel’s blend of executive, political, and business experience is just what Georgia needs at this critical time. The leadership skills that she has honed in both the private and public sectors will enable her to make tough decisions and enact the reforms needed to get the economy back on track and foster job creation,” said Romney.

Romney’s PAC has also sent Handel’s campaign a $1,000 contribution.

Another late-comer to the party. Interesting how Romney waited until AFTER the GA primary to pick a side, while he went earlier for Nikki Haley in SC.

I’m sick of these “out of town losers” endorsing candidates for the people of Georgia. They don’t live here and we don’t want them to move here.

I’m a Romney fan, but why are these out of state endorsements even important to our candidates for Governor? I’d rather see issues based questions like the Georgia League of Women Voters site or better yet an apples to apples summary of voting records, actions on issues, etc. on all the candidates. Now THAT would be reporting!

The answers given would be both hilarious and telling.

As Karen didn’t need to be a Vietnam draft-dodger like most politicians running Our Country into a hole getting endorsed by Vietnam draft-dodging Romney is the next “best” thing.

With Mitt the Mormon backing Handel maybe the Log Cabin Republicans will forgive her treachery.

Our whole family voted for Karen during early voting.
We like that Romney has come abord. For those who did not like “out-of-towners” you are wrong. Their support shows that Karen can play in the big leagues with Palen and others and now has nationwide name recognition. She needs nationwide support to raise funds against king Rat.
We loved that Eric ran a clean campaign and hope he will support Karen too.
Mostly all women should support her, after the scandalous e-mails and robo-calls from Georgia Right to Life. How long will women let the GRTL men control their sex lives?

This man “of his word” took campaign money from democrats and ran as a democrat and then switched to the Fox News Party. Did he have a sudden change of heart? No, he knew that he could not continue to be elected as a democrat so he started running as a republican.

Not very honorable and certainly not something that someone would do who claims not to switich positions just for an election!!!

I am tired to seeing democrats elected as republicans and am thankful we have a republican running for governor wbo was a republican before being one was a politically expedient thing to be

If this endorsement holds true Handel will not get my vote. Romney is just another RINO opportunist trying to look conservative in order to run for POTUS. I see where businesses in MA are now all giving up on healthcare plans leaving people with no choice but to either go without or go to the state’s plan. This is actually what the left wanted if they could not flat out get a national plan – make it where private ones fold on their own and leave people with no other choice. Romney gave us the prototype. And his record is as far from a conservative as one can get. His endorsement is a curse in my book and a deterrent. Looks like it is Deal in the run-off and perhaps Libertarian in November.

So Georgia dodged a bullet and sent Oxendine packing…good riddance, he is the Rod Blagojevich of Georgia.

Barnes must have thought he had died and gone to heaven. Handel or Deal? Both are border line, semi-literate morons who can’t seem to string together a complete coherent sentence.

Handel will bring the Paris Hilton of Politics (Sarah Palin) back for an endorsement which will no-doubt further cement her endorsement and support from the intellectual midget crowd who anchor the Georgia GOP base.

In the interim, Deal will pummel her for her support of gays and each will try to out “conservative” the other with constant reminders and reference to Obama, as if it were he they were running against.

When the dust settles and one is chosen to lead the GOP, Barnes will pummel them by focusing on the real problems of Georgia and real solutions which in the end will appeal most to the moderate majority.

Why should Georgia settle politically.

Shirley Sherrod, from South Georgia, clearly has the Spirit of G-d in her and oversaw some $4B’s in accounts for the USDA.

Her integrity is established in light of fascist plutocracy’s Tea Party blogger Andrew Breitbart’s attempt to smear her. None but G-d has lifted her up and she is one of us, Georgia!

Let’s all good and decent Georgians, White, Black, rich, poor, straight, gay, young and old, write her name in for governor. iirc there is a September deadline to register a Write-in candidate. Who could be better for all Georgia?

Handel is the only true conservative in this race and she is the best candidate whip King Roy in November!

Roy Barnes was bad for GA 8 years ago and he is bad for GA now! And as for Mr. “Raw” Deal, we do not need a candidate that stepped down from congress just to avoid being brought up on ethics charges to run this state.

We need a progressive, conservative, innovative leader for our state and that person is Karen Handel.

Number One, Karen Handel is a GREAT public speaker, I’m not real sure who said he isn’t. I attended a debate between her and Eric Johnson, and she won by a landslide. When asked a question she has a thought out answer for everything. Johnson just talked in circles. And secondly, if I hear someone say something about hte fact that she doesn;t have a college degree again, I misgh just nut up. While Barack Obama was out banging college girls, getting a law degree (of which he apparently forgot all he ever learned from it) and organizing communities, Karen Handel was in the real world, in a real business world, gaining real experience, and being a real politition. So Harvard Educated Obama, or gee, even better, college educated Roy and Sonny, or someone with some real world experience? Please.

I think the choice is Crystal clear for the voters of Georgia, and that is Karen Handel.

This republican would probably hold his nose and vote for Roy over Handel. Her misleading credentials go to her credibility. She was not “deputy chief of staff” to the Bush white house as she originally claimed. That type of misleading information would get you fired at any large company in the country. How could any one vote for Barnes. Remember we voted him out once already. He changed our flag never letting the people of Georgia having a chanced to vote on that issue. That is the problem with politicians like him, they get into office and forgot that they are there to serve the people. Deal flip flops for whatever is popular, I am impressed that Karen Handel balanced Fulton county’s budget when she was in office, without cutting teacher’s,police or firemen.

The Big Winner in yesterday’s Primary was the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. It’s candidates are firstly Roy Barnes, who will saddle the people of the Suburbs and rest of Georgia with a state takeover of MARTA to”keep Atlanta growing”, and take over what’s left of the rest of Georgia’s Water for Atlanta, to “keep Atlanta growing”, second, Joe Martin, a reliable “voice for Atlanta” as State Superintendent of Education and fan of federal money and the corporate way of education like the Gates Foundation’s–Obama partnership of “race to the top”, and lastly Olens, who has promoted the Chamber’s line as chairman of the Cobb County Commission and member of the Metropolitan Atlanta Regional Commission, for Attorney General.

I’m not surprised at “republican” posters endorsing Barnes. All the Metro Chamber’s “republican” members are automatically for Barnes, as Deal and Handel both should know.

Finally, it’s clear most people posting here are from inside the beltway (at least in spirit), and they should know that their views are not shared by many Georgians outside the beltway. Georgia outside I-285 is very different from inside it.
