Democratic candidate for governor Roy Barnes has picked up an early and important endorsement — in an election when the economy will matter most. From the campaign:
The Georgia AFL-CIO endorsed Roy Barnes in his bid for governor today.
“I am proud to receive the endorsement of the Georgia AFL-CIO, an organization that is committed to creating Georgia jobs for Georgia workers and building a better future for Georgia families,” said Barnes.
“AFL-CIO members all across Georgia are proud to support Roy for Governor in 2010,” said Richard Ray, Georgia AFL-CIO President. “We are confident that he can bring prosperity and jobs back to Georgia.”
Look for other AFL-CIO endorsements to follow.

You mean the same Roy Barnes who lost in part because unemployment went up big time while he was Governor?
These insiders never learn, even after the results of Tuesday. People aren’t looking for more of the same old – same old.

Honestly, who else would you expect them to endorse?
Cue the GOP mob attacking organized labor in short order…

Yeah right! What was the highest unemplyment rate then……5%. I’ll take that compared to the unemployment during Sonny Go Fish Perdue.

The union can support him but the educators in Georgia will defeat him. At our faculty lunch today, the name mentioned most who we would support was David Poythress. Barnes burned us once and he will not be allowed to do it again.

Wow how an unusual. Unions backing a DemoRat! King Rat Barnes yet to figure out that Georgia is a “right-to-work” state??? Keep kissing the hind-quarters of your union buddies (all 5 of them in Georgia) Boy Roy. Let me guess, the Teachers association of Georgia will soon throw their support behind him closely followed by the MARTA union. Hopefully the nail will be put in Barnes’ coffin when Obozo comes out to support him.

Why is a union organization endorsing a Democrat even newsworthy? Anyone could have predicted that. And even union members do not follow their leadership blindly.

Is there no one new? Why is it always these same, tired politicians? How about someone with their head screwed on straight for a change?

Why can’t NEW innovative leaders come forward and present ideas that offer the citizens of Georgia real change. I am an independent, however, lean Democratic. I won’t vote for recycled Roy Barnes. His time came, he served, and was replaced. He’s no more attractive as a candidate today than when he lost to Sonny Perdue.
I am 57-years-old and hope for new fresh change; not more of the same. We deserve and need better leadership; not more recycled politicians.

MiltonMan you must be the most uninformed person in GA if you believe the teachers organizations will endorse Barnes. Notice I said teacher organizations; as with most ignorant ranters in Georgia you must not know that teachers cannot unionize in Ga. Teachers have NO collective bargaining rights. I am not sure that I see a credible canidate for Guv in Ga. I am 56 and have hardly voted for a Democratic candidate in Ga over the past 20 years, but I will NOT vote for crooks like Deal or Oxendine.

Milton Man, I’m guessing you don’t get out much. All that pressure is going to get you. Breath deep and try and think just one little thought you made up right in your little head all on your own. What ever you heard on talk radio doesn’t count, just your original thoughts please. Your silence is deafening.

Roy is a political chameleon. He likes to change to blend in with his current surroundings. He introduced a tort reform bill as a politician in 1987, yet, while trying to reinvent himself to the voters, “ruefully bemoaned his role in introducing [it]. After a lifetime of being a politician and after his defeat, he said “Don’t you ever depend on a legislator to defend your rights. Because I’ll tell you: It depends on who gives them the most money and who takes them to the best steak dinner.” Fulton Daily Report, December 7, 2004, Vol.115, No. 237. Reckon how much money has been given to Ol’ Roy and how many steak dinners he has had over a lifetime of politics??? I think his financial records showed a few weeks ago that he was worth 16 million dollars. What’s that saying about being fooled twice??

The greatest threats to unions and organized labor is illegal immigration. Roy Barnes backs allowing illegals coming here with full amnesty. No wonder Unions are dying!

Roy’s a good debater. He should be. He’s spent a lifetime honing his skills. He knows the issues. It what he does with them (or doesn’t)that’s the problem.

Mr. Galloway: Here is a story from Macon, GA about the mystey of the frozen condom.

It is funny and the comments are even funnier and it is more important than promoting a coward for
governor. Sometimes police entrapment backfires.

Please show me where I ever stated the teachers union moron. I stated the teachers association clown. No wonder our education system in this state is so screwed up having teachers like you cannot even comprehend a simple paragraph.

He wasn’t ‘replaced’…the election was stolen…Diebold and Cathy Cox saw to it – although I doubt she was ‘let in on the deal’ until afterward…and Sonny just happened to be the lucky peckerwood standing there when the ‘grand larceny’ went down. The GOP has squandered it’s opportunity to run this state effectively and efficiently, now we want the man with the vision, the smarts and the drive to accomplish more in the four years available to him than any of the others could do in twice that.

Roy Barnes admittedly had a communications problem during his first term; but, I believe he did things for Georgia that had to be done for the future of our beloved state. In any scenario, we need his vision and intelligence now in this budget crisis. The crooked backroom deals of the Perdue administration (tax cut to benefit himself referencing the FL land deal and the now proposed tax cut for the wealthy) cannot be defended. Why are all these people so anti-Obama, by the way? They never mention specifics (just name calling and inuendos). Could it be the color of his skin?????

Could be because Obama has done everything in his power to wreck our economy and country. Union support is an immediate No Vote. Unions destroyed the American auto industry.

If Perdue had any “back-room deals,” he learned the tactics from the previous Democrats that were in control. Thanks for informing us of the AFL-CIO endorsement. I can mark Barnes off my list of candidates.

Our ports needs a union after all the policies they are implementing. How come people are so stubborn to understand what a union can do for them. Imagine making $50,000.00 or more a year. Under the “Right to Work” law a company can fire an individual for no apparent reason. If you own a home, have a car, children, etc. and are laid off or terminated for a unjust reason, the union is there to help you. Today, our economy is so corrupt that the working class does not stand a chance without one. Can you picture if Wal-Mart had a union. Then less people would be fired. People need stability. The union is there for this reason. Do not be stupid, get educated!

In ‘96 good ol Roy told the citizens of our fair state that we had to have the labor of the “undocumented workers” to do all the olympic work and that the law would not be enforced because we need the money. Should law abiding citizens vote for a lawbreaker for Govenor?
