Andrew Breitbart, on his Big Government web site, is offering $10,000 for proof that U.S. Rep. John Lewis was assaulted with the n-word last Saturday in the run-up to the vote on health care.
This is the same web site that first put up the footage of ACORN staffers in Baltimore, giving advice on how to avoid paying taxes on cash acquired through prostitution.
By way of backbround: Last Saturday, as they went to the U.S. Capitol to hear a final speech on health care, Lewis and other African-American congressmen passed by a crowd of mostly white tea party protestors.
Here’s the Insider post that ran. This from a Detroit news outlet:
Rep. Andre Carson, D-Ind., told a reporter that as he left the Cannon House Office Building with Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., a leader of the civil rights era, some among the crowd chanted “the N-word, the N-word, 15 times.” Both Carson and Lewis are black, and Lewis spokeswoman Brenda Jones also said that it occurred.
“It was like going into the time machine with John Lewis,” said Carson, a large former police officer who said he wasn’t frightened but worried about the 70-year-old Lewis, who is twice his age. “He said it reminded him of another time.”
Brenda Jones, spokeswoman for Lewis, confirmed the incident.
Breitbart accuses Lewis and the other members of Congress of goading the crowd:
On Saturday, during the peaceful and patriotic tea party protest at the Capitol, the Democrats staged a series of symbolic acts meant to manipulate the media to do its bidding. The Congressional Black Caucus pulled the Selma card and chose to walk through the crowd in the hopes of creating a YouTube incident.
There is no reason in 21st century America on an issue that is not a black or white or a civil rights issue to have a bloc of black people walk slowly through a mostly white crowd to make a racial point. The walk in and of itself — with two of the participants holding their handheld cameras above their heads hoping to document “proof” — was an act of racism meant to create a contrast between the tea party crowd and themselves….
It’s time for the allegedly pristine character of Rep. John Lewis to put up or shut up. Therefore, I am offering $10,000 of my own money to provide hard evidence that the N- word was hurled at him not 15 times, as his colleague reported, but just once. Surely one of those two cameras wielded by members of his entourage will prove his point…..
Rep. Lewis, if you can’t do that, I’ll give him a backup plan: a lie detector test. If you provide verifiable video evidence showing that a single racist epithet was hurled as you walked among the tea partiers, or you pass a simple lie detector test, I will provide a $10K check to the United Negro College Fund.
We’ve got a query into Lewis’ office, but do not expect the Atlanta congressman to engage.

Ahh, DannyX…still avoiding the issue, trying to insult others, but not addressing the real issue here, which is whether or not John Lewis is lying.
If Rep. Lewis is telling the truth, there have to be quite a few bits of video proof. We’re waiting.

you are proving my point danny. you have adopted the strategy of your liberal leaders. Strategy: Don’t even consider what any opposition says! Their minds are warped! Popular thought says that the public is afraid of obamacare. is it possible that liberals are even more afraid that even larger portions of the public will turn on them?

Hey Y’all:
What is wrong with you silly, childish people. You need to get a life. Putting up a reward to find someone who said the “N” word to black Congressmen. You know you Tea Party members did it. You know they are just the Republican Ku Klux Klan/Nazi Party who are nothing but racist devils. They did not have the courage to do it with many blacks walking together in solidarity as the Congressional Black Caucus did. Their courage to say things like that to an individual is when the believe they “out number” them. That is what ‘COWARDS” do and that is what the REPUBLICAN/KuKluxKlan/Nazy Party/ Tea Party is: A BUNCH OF SILLY, CHILDISH, DEMONIC, COWARDS. I pray that hell does not break lose from their cowardly actions. But if it does, they will be the first to run. YOU CAN BET ON IT. What they need to do is get a life, grow up, read the Bible, and “REPENT” for their wicked, evil ways. They are acting as their father; THE DEVIL. I applaude the Congressional Black Caucus for their courage in this matter.

The black caucus wasn’t walking through that white thuggish mob to incite them. The black congressmen were walk to their job! What the hell was that white thuggish mob doing trying to block their way?
That scene reminded me of those civil rights era videos, where the mobs of white adults were there to yell and shout at the black kids trying to go to school.
Cry all you want, Republicans… but that’s what it looked like to me. Maybe you should rein in that mob of neanderthals next time.

The opposition in this case t… just got caught dressing up a third rate journalist in a phone repairman outfit, and sent him and others up to the office of a US Senator with the intent of gaining access to the Senators phone room.
What is the issue? That this website has any creditability? That this website deserves respect?
This is the opposition?????????? If it is mocking it is the only thing that makes sense!

I love how so many of you are taking up for the ones that used the N-word and justifying it. That was heinous, ugly and totally uncalled for. But I guess this is GA and some old feelings die hard. I’m embarassed that in 2010 that language would be used towards a statesman, but I am besides myself with disbelief that some of you would actually defend the guilty as if it were no big deal. That is why the GOP is no longer relevent…because of what they, and their constituents stand for: bias, bigotry, racism, hatred etc. etc. What really amazes me is Richard Steele. He’s lost his mind representing them.

david, as others have noted, it is very rare for members to enter the public entrance as pelosi and the CBC did. They saw the group, and wanted to create a scene. why did no other members come in that entrance? why the black members? BECAUSE THEY WANTED YOU TO THINK OF CIVIL RIGHTS ERA! They want the sympathy because theyre losing the popular opinion battle on healthcare There is still no proof that anyone yelled anything. they say it did anyway and the media runs with it. this is a stunt to try and discredit opposition. if there was proof on video or audio that this was done, the media would have played in a million times. we have not seen it, therefore no one has it, therefore it may not have happened at all

you sound pretty ignorant to our current political landscape. do you honestly think neither side doesnt pull these type fo political stunts? it just so happens that dems have historically screamed “racist” at republicans based on nothing for political gains. Did you know that at the capitol a tea party member was holding up a big sign that said “if you see or hear anyone saying or doing something stupid or racist immediately identify them and get rid of them” (im summarizing btw). these people are normal citizens and yall cant handle honest debate on the healthcare bill.

So let me get this right, it is OK for the members of Congress that voted against the new law to walk across the street from the Cannon House Office Building to the cheers of the crowd but it is inciting the crowd if supportors of the new law walk the same path. I just looked at a couple of videos on Youtube and several groups of congressman and women walked across the street to the U.S. Capital, some were booed and some were cheered so if the C.B.C. had an “agenda” by walking across the street instead of entering through the tunnel then the same has to be said for the rest of the members of congress who came in through the public entrance.

Here’s the scoop on the “crazy liberal” shooting up Cantor’s office: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/03/26/bullet-struck-cantors-office-appears-randomly-fired/
I mean, IF you trust this news source. Police determined the bullet was fired into the air and, on the way down, struck the first-floor window of a building that houses a local *campaign* office on another floor, not the office where he conducts official business. And since there is nothing on the outside of the building that identifies it with Cantor, and since Cantor is rarely there himself, they conclude that it was merely a case of random flying bullets, so commonplace on America’s streets nowadays. But I can understand one’s alarm at the initial report, given the climate of hostility and violence on which so many Americans pride themselves these days.

The Congressional Black Caucus is the Congressional DEMOCRAT Black Caucus; ask J. C. Watts.
There might have been someone stupid enough to shout n—— as they walked the gauntlet they had contrived, but numerous sound recording devices didn’t catch a single one of the 15 incidents. They were heard ONLY by the Black (Democrat) Congressmen and their staff.
O’Keefe’s crew was in the Senator’s office to get pictures of the staff NOT answering the ‘phones, so they could say there was no constituent outcry against the healthcare legislation.

We are also seeing the Dem attack dogs out in force touting the shattered window. I remind everyone of this FACT: On 10/30/2008 the front windows on Cindy Sheehan’s campaign office were all shattered, and she got quite a bit of coverage out of that UNTIL it was discovered one of the Democratic party tricksters did it as a media attention grab. Through this symbolic act, those racists tried to create a contrast between all the white citizens of town and themselves. The media played right into their hands and made our police force look bad. Yet, I haven’t heard or seen any verifiable video evidence that a single epithet was hurled that day in 1963. Thus, the only racist behavior that day was obviously by the black people.
