Over the weekend, Sarah Palin went to Canada, where she confessed that, as a child, she and her Alaskan family sampled that nation’s health care system.
Said Palin:
“My first five years of life we spent in Skagway, Alaska, right there by Whitehorse. Believe it or not – this was in the ‘60s – we used to hustle on over the border for health care that we would receive in Whitehorse. I remember my brother, he burned his ankle in some little kid accident thing and my parents had to put him on a train and rush him over to Whitehorse and I think, isn’t that kind of ironic now. Zooming over the border, getting health care from Canada.”
It was a closed event, so word has been slow getting out. Jason Markusoff with the Calgary Herald captured the ins and outs of the former Alaskan governor’s remarks:
Given all the politician-turned pundit’s warnings about the ills of expanding government role in U.S. health care (see: panels, death), this was, yep, pretty ironic-sounding. Now in fairness, she was born in Idaho and them moved to Alaska as an infant in 1964, two years before the Medical Care Act that established national medicare came to Canada. Several years after universal coverage came to acute hospital care like burns, mind you. But then, it’s not exactly anybody’s political choice where they receive medical attention when they’re less than five years old, to say nothing of the political ideologies one doesn’t really develop around that age.

Sarah Palin is from a small town in Alaska . That really is no big news . The fact that her grand daughter is on a granny killing public healthcare plan with the amount of money she has earned over the last year is much more telling .

She’s also told the same story but said she and her family had to ride a ferry to an Alaskan city for the treatment. This was an anecdote she shared when advocating for subsidies to keep the ferry up and running as I recall.
The real takeaway from this story is not that she used the Canadian health system as a child; rather, it is just more evidence of her inablity to tell the truth.
It would be nice if she could explain why it is okay for her and her family to recieve free health care – due to her husband being one half Native Alaskan – provided by the government and it is not okay for the rest of the citizenry of the US.
Please run for President Sarah! PLEASE!!??!

Ironic?
Sarah is getting in where she fits in. She has no business in public office. She is not smart enough, she can’t even run her household. Let her make her money being a baffoon.
Now, to all of you “Elephants” on the right, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Look around you and you will see that most of the people that agree with you are angry old WHITE PEOPLE(and a spattering of insane minorities). Steele looked like someone ate his last apple pie(and watermelon)when he was questioned about the FEAR tactics exposed via the document in Boca Raton, FL. You guys will do ANYTHING to win and gain control. You are the biggest group of NARCACIST I have ever seen!
Canada, the European Union and several other counties have had Universal Healthcare for some time now, and IT WORKS!
How about this:
1. Let’s expand healthcare to all by allowing everyone to buy into the “Government Option” which should be the same health care that our elected officials have. It should drive those rates down since you already have a number of folks already in it. Let your income dictate whether or not the government subsidizes your premium. There will be people that can’t pay (due to unemployment, disability, etc.), they should be screened and subsized. As long as an unemployed worker is actively looking for work (and can prove it by coming to the Unemployment Office or some other verifiable means) they should be covered.
2. The biggest problem with the Universal Healthcare that is well documented is long wait times for specialist. Well, we like to do things better in America so we should attack this problem with our technology, better communication and compensation. On top of that, those that want to keep their private insurance and have access to faster specialist service, can do so. But, for the person who had NO HEALTHCARE before, a couple of months to wait for an elective surgery would be nothing compared to not having the procedure at all.
If you have Medicare or if you are a Veteran (like my Dad), you are on Socialized Medicine! It is working just fine, at least folks are covered.
WAKE UP AMERICA! THESE ELEPHANTS ARE TRYING TO TRICK YOU, BUT THEY ARE JUST TO BIG, BOLD, ARROGANT, AND STUPID ALL AT THE SAME TIME. YOU ELEPHANTS NEED TO HAVE COMPASSION FOR OTHERS AS YOU WADDLE AROUND IN YOUR CAPITALISTIC TRANCE, PLEASE WATCH OUT FOR THE LITTLE GUY THAT YOU MAY SQUASH UNBEKNOWNST TO YOU.
WE ARE THE GREATEST NATION AND ALL OF OUR PEOPLE SHOULD BE COVERED, PERIOD!!!!!!!
IT IS NOT OBAMACARE, IT IS AMERICARE!

I just love the obsessive liberals trying to desperately find a “gotcha” moment against Palin. This happened when she was a kid and her parents took her and her brother across the border. Healthcare in Alaska during the 60’s probably was not top billing. But somehow the liberals are so desperate to go after her, they try to pin her as a hypocrite for something her parents did back in the 60’s. If they would be honest, would they like to hold Obama accountable for the deadbeat father he had in the 60’s? Or hanging out with known Communists smoking pot? I’m willing to bet the standard applied here is only applied to Palin and not across the board.
On the obsession with Palin, I do find it ironic that the same liberals who will say “Palin is so insignificant and needs to go away” are the same ones who spend time on blogs, news, radio, etc. talking about her. If she didn’t matter, why are you Lefties so obsessed with talking about her? Palin is crack for liberals – you want to let go and drop the addiction but you just can’t.

See this article from 2007:http://www.skagwaynews.com/051107GovPalinvisit.html
Relevent quote: Palin drew from her Skagway past to illustrate her point. Her brother burned his foot badly jumping through a fire, and her mother had to take him down to Juneau on the ferry to the hospital.
The point is that she lies. She lies so easily it’s funny – sort of like a two year old or something…

Wow. What a revelation. A politician tells details differently on something that happened 40-50 years ago. You must have amazing memory to call someone out on something like this. I hope every one of your stories are as accurate. And I hope your same standard is applied to every other politician who lies on more things more recently. Do you call Obama and Hillary out on their BLATANT lies? Or Biden? Or any of the other liars in elected office? Amazing how details from decades ago is now the measuring rod for hypocrisy for one woman but yet the man running the country is given multiple free passes on lies he tells on a daily basis.

Just as with all liberals, it is OK for them to lie and be a hypocrite but dare a Republican or conservative do this and it’s the end of the world.
Obama lies about the actual healthcare bill, terrorism, the military, etc. and you give him a pass. But yet Palin gives different accounts on a childhood memory and you obsessively troll the blogs screaming “Liar! Hypocrite!”. Irony is a feature of Sarah Palin’s employment. Irony is generally not considered to be a part of every invested career or concern, unless she wants to hallucinate her problems onto others. Oh, I see…you are concerned about Sarah Palin’s ability to remember events that occured when she was five? And if she can’t remember what happened forty years ago when she was FIVE YEARS OLD to your high standard of accountability, she is a liar and hypocrite…well…
Here’s what her father said about the incident when interviewed by the Associated Press (which seems to be the only media outlet trying to report this accurately.)
“There was no road out of there at that time,” said retired teacher Chuck Heath, reached by phone in Wasilla. “The ferry schedule was very erratic. We had no doctor in Skagway. The plane schedule was very erratic. The winds dictated whether the planes could come in or not.”
Palin’s father said his family probably boarded the train for the Whitehorse hospital only twice — once when a daughter had rheumatic fever, and once when his son, also named Chuck, severely burned his leg and an infection set in.
“We much preferred to use our facilities because my insurance didn’t cover anything in Canada. And even though they have socialized medicine, I still had to pay the bill, being an American citizen,” Heath said.
Heath worked part-time for the White Pass & Yukon Railroad and had a pass allowing him and his family to ride for free.
The train in the 1960s often was the only option for getting to a doctor, Skagway Mayor Tom Cochran said.”
There ya go, Ira.

Sarah Palin is to politics what TV wrestling is to sports — entertainment.
I don’t want her to go away. She serves a purpose. She’s the stand-up comedienne for the right-wing, government-phobic, unfettered free-market “so multi-national corporations can solve all our problems” crowd. She provides the vent for certain people’s perception of what’s wrong with things. And she provides amusement for the rest of us.
But I don’t want her to run for office, either. She brings gun-slinging, baby-daddy, survivalist, white-trash culture to the political arena. She doesn’t have any more solutions than she has clues. She’s just a dart looking for a dart board. She wouldn’t win an important seat, and she would only take up the space where a more serious candidate should be.
Sarah Palin is quite a character. I predict we will all be fascinated by her, in one way or another, until the shtick finally wears off.

Sarah Palin was only a child when her family took her across the border for Canada’s health care. This is not hypocritical, since it was not her decision. I don’t know what world you are living in but 5 years old generally don’t make the medical decisions for their families.
In addition, Most Canadians now come to America for health care because they cannot get appointments with doctors in a timely manner and other problems. If you think government is the solution for health care, just look at all their other programs, which are currently flawed and poorly managed. The bigger government becomes, the less able they are to manage their affairs.

We already know that Sarah Palin is incorruptible. For thirty years one Alaskan politician after another took money or graft from the Big Oil companies so they could hold on to their leases and not drill up in Alaska. In two years Sarah Palin put an end to this. Unlike Hillary Clinton and all the other leaders of the DEMS Party, Sarah Palin has no corrupted political strings following her. The problem with all the anti-Palin commenters above is that they try to hold her to a higher ethical standard than any other politician.
Anyone who says she is stupid, Not one Palin supporter takes that seriously. We look at the judgments of our leaders in Washington and Sarah being POTUS is not a problem for us.
To ELEPHANT SOCIALIST: Handing out freebies is not what made this country great. To begin with right now anyone who wants healthcare can get it. You either pay by it by yourself, or the state picks up the bill Obama’s Plan has nothing to do with healthcare, it has to do with health insurance.
I have no problem with covering everyone with health insurance, but it should be done on the State level, not Federally. There is a huge difference and you being a Socialist understand the difference more than most. It’s about POWER AND REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH. The DEMS want all the money and power to be in on city, Washington D.C. It is easier to hold power in one city than it would be in 50 State Capitals. That is what the whole argument is about. POWER!
One more thing: If the Presidential election were run today Sarah Palin would beat Obama. Obama is a fraud and even the Progressive LEFT knows it.

1. The most vulgar sexual comments that are made about Sarah Palin come from Left-wing men who claim to hate her. Most conservative men are very respectful about her looks.
2. Sarah’s statements about the healthcare, come from what she remembers as a five year old little girl. Her brother received his initial “burn treatment” in Juneau. I wasn’t until the infection set in that they went to Canada for the emergency treatment.
3. You can see Russia from Alaska. Little Diomedes Island is only two miles from Russian soil. On a clear day, you can see Russia from Alaska. “Russia from my porch” was a quote by Tina Fey.
4. Partisans Make Me Want to Puke says: “The true irony is that she can acknowledge the benefits of Canada’s health care system when her family had little other means while at the same time joining Red and Susan and every other Republican in doing everything within their power to destroy any progress made in relation to our healthcare system simply because they do not want to see a progressive Democrat accomplish anything. My response is this: Are you just making up your own little imaginary scenario here? The Heath family did not go to Canada to get socialized healthcare. American citizens don’t qualify for Canadian Healthcare…they have to pay for it.
If you notice in my above comment, Mr. Heath states that the only reason they had to go Canada was in emergencies (because the doctor in Canada) was closer. Mr. Heath also stated that he had TO PAY MORE when he went to Canada because his insurance was only good in the United States.
Try sticking to the facts. Sarah Palin has enough lies said about her, for people to be making up imaginary accounts from her childhood.
