A late jolt: Our Governor Perdue is second most popular

North Carolina’s Governor Perdue is more popular than our Governor Perdue, according to Public Policy Polling. The survey firm (from North Carolina) has posted this:

We haven’t given Bev Perdue much positive news on the polling front since she took office, but here’s something she can take to heart: she’s the most popular Governor Perdue in the country.

Over the weekend we found Georgia’s Governor Perdue- Sonny- with a 29/52 approval spread. That’s worse than the 30/47 Bev put up on our monthly North Carolina poll in February.

The two Perdues are suffering from some similar problems. Neither is very popular with independents- Sonny’s at 28/50 and Bev’s at 29/49. They’re also not all that well liked within their own parties- Sonny’s got 44% approval from Republicans while Bev has 41% approval from Democrats.

Bev’s disapproval numbers are lower than Sonny’s though because Republicans don’t dislike her as much as Democrats dislike him. She has 58% disapproval across party lines while his is 70%.

An official advocate for Georgia’s governor correctly points out that the disparity between PPP’s polling and Rasmussen surveys — mentioned on Wednesday in connection with the governor’s race — applies here as well. Two weeks ago, Rasmussen put Sonny Perdue’s favorables at 51 percent.

Just north of Nathan Deal’s 9th Congressional District is one that belongs to U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp of Chattanooga, who – like Deal – is running for governor. Given Deal’s announced resignation on Monday, Wamp was asked by the Chattanooga Times Free Press if he had similar plans.

No, the Tennessee Republican said. And he added what might be interpreted as a dig at 67-year-old Deal:

Rep. Wamp, R-Tenn., said running for governor while serving in Congress is a “challenge, but you have to be incredibly well organized and disciplined.”

“I’m just 52, and I take good care of myself,” he said Tuesday while in Nashville. “I still run regularly and I sleep well and, as a result, I’m able to do two jobs at the same time.”

The Center for Biological Diversity, presumably an environmental group, says it has asked Attorney General Thurbert Baker to look into the illegal use of gasoline or ammonia in rattlesnake round-ups in south Georgia.

The group says the chemicals are poured into the burrows of gopher tortoises to force out hiding serpents, making the holes uninhabitable for other occupants, including the original owners.

A snake round-up is scheduled to be held in Claxton on March 13 and 14.

Another candidate has emerged for the Gwinnett County seat occupied by state Rep. Clay Cox (R-Lilburn), who has jumped into the 7th District congressional contest.

Linda Carsten, former president of the Republican women’s organization in Gwinnett County, has announced her bid for the post. A real estate agent, she’s also the wife of former Gwinnett County sheriff Jim Carsten.

We’ve picked up evidence of a split in anti-abortion forces at the state Capitol, over H.B. 1155, a bill that bans abortion solicitation on the basis of race.

The measure was introduced at the behest of Georgia Right to Life, in an attempt to focus attention on statistics that indicate African-American women resort to abortion in greater numbers than white women.

State Rep. Bobby Franklin, the Cobb County Republican, voted against the measure in committee – even though he’s probably the most fervent anti-abortion lawmaker in the Capitol.

Franklin accused GRTL of using the bill as a fund-raising tool and faulted the group’s logic. If you say it’s illegal to solicit abortions on the basis of race, you’re in fact implying that it’s permissible to solicit abortions when you’re not using race as a factor, Franklin said. He’s posted this on YouTube:

Sonny is a horrible governor.

His solution to the water shortages was to pray on the street corner in the name of Jesus who said, “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men.”

All he has is religion and he doesn’t even understand it.

Sonny has been horrible…probably the worst governor ever for education. Our transportation and water problems have just gotten worse during his terms. Even though our economy is in shambles, he bows down to the right wing and refuses to even offer Sunday liquor sales to go to the people for a vote, and our biotech industry is hampered by his far right leanings against stem cell research. I can’t think of one good thing he’s done, but we voted for him twice so we deserve what we’ve gotten.

Bobby Franklin seems right on this. I have asked before. Can anyone find me one expample of a person being solicited to have an abortion?

Are there telemarketers calling random pregnant people and offering discounts for abortions or somthing?

It seems to me that most abortion clinics are low key office buildings with little to no signage that patients have to seek out. I know of no doctor who provides Abortions directly marketing to any individuals.

Surely we don’t consider having your phone number listed in a phone book as a solicitation, do we?

Zach Wamp went to Congress with a self-imposed term limit and a pledge to not accept PAC money.

When his term limit arrived, he discovered he was too valuable to give way to someone else.

Then, when he was considering running for Senate, he decided it’s impossible to run a statewide race without PAC money. And, on top of that, he hired his wife to raise the PAC money … so potentially, PAC money was buying the steak and brie in his fridge.

In addition, he got a $1 million federal conservation allocation, to pay the developer of the valley neighborhood he lives in to leave the beautiful mountainside undeveloped. Nevermind that the developer made millions off Wamp and his neighbors by luring them with that beautiful mountainside and to develop it would be killing the goose that laid the golden egg.

I hope Tennesseans are smart enough not to elect this scumbag governor.

Sonny Perdue will go down as the worse Govenor in history. In the last 8 yrs I cannot think of one thing he has done to help Ga. But I can write a book on the ways he’s hurt Georgians and its taxpayers. He has affected just about every area of their lives in one way or the other.

Balderdash, let’s hope Tennesseans are smarter than Georgians. We elected Perdue twice, and Oxendine and Deal are leading the polls in the Governor’s race this time. Both of them are crooks. The two of them and Handel, the other front runner, are all on record favoring secession, which is irresponsible at best and treasonous at worst. These are our front runners, so we may be out of the frying pan into the fire with our next governor. What is wrong with us Georgians! It makes no sense to keep electing incompetents to state office.

I don’t know why people don’t like our Governor Perdue, he hasn’t done anything.

Lucy: Have you ever considered the link between Georgia’s educational system and voting patterns? Do you travel much in rural Georgia where the majority of voters reside?

Hey Bart. When you say, we voted him in twice, did you mean you had a rat in your pocket.

Boy this is funny. You are all over this poll from a Democratic polling firm that shows Perdue with abysmal approval ratings while two other recent polls show him around 52% approval. Come on Jim, don’t let your bias show that much. :)

We voted Sonny (RINO) in office twice because look at what the alternative was (The big fat guy and King Roy). Not much of a choice. Sonny was a Dem two years prior to running for Governor. He ran the state as a Dem physically and was a conservative socially.

How Sonny Purdue ever got elected Governor twice is beyond me. The guy is a complete dolt. He has no vision for the state of Georgia, nor has he implemented any policies (or even tried for that matter) to relieve the number one problem in this state – traffic congenstion and lack of decent public transportation. Until someone steps up to the plate to address this issue, the metro Atlanta area will continue to suffer.

You don’t know how good you have it. You should be thankful for Sonny. I’d trade him in a minute for our “sweet Bev”. Simply put, Ga and its (R) Gov and (R) legis. is in far better shape than NC and our (D) gov and (D) legis. Look it up. I know things are bad down there, but here we’re bleeding jobs – and no one (business) will come here due to taxes and regs. Pitiful!

Democrats were right to kick Sonny out of the Party after he came up with that disastrous natural gas deregulation plan. If you come up with stupid Republican fantasies like deregulation, well, he got what he deserved. Banishment.

The Republicans meanwhile lopped up the Democrats leftovers. They made him a hero! As our gas bills were skyrocketing they welcomed the guy with open arms.

8 years later Republicans are scratching their heads wondering what happened. “Why are things such a mess in Georgia?”

Well, DUH!

How could he be elected twice? Because citizens voted “against” his opponents not “for” Sonny. There has been a lot of that going on lately. More and more we are given the choice of the lesser of two evils. I can’t remember the last time I was excited to vote “for” anyone.

Let me take that back, I was excited to vote “for” Mary Norwood, and we see how that turned out.

My first wife is second most popular too. I don’t need PPP to tell me that. Besides, PPP is 666 turned upside down. These revelations call for extreme caution.

Republican leadership?

Gov Schwarzenegger of California.

Gov Perdue of Georgia.

Gov Sanford of South Carolina.

Ex-Gov of Alaska Palin. Quit.

Mitt Romney creator of Obamacare, leading 2012 GOP contender.

Sen Vitter Diapers.

Most Republican Congressmen (every Senator) voted for socialist Med D

Perdue’s numbers are Bush-like. Another recent Republican disaster.

Bush-like. That’s Sonny.

Perdue’s do nothing but “kiss a baby, pray for rain, castrate a dog” routine played well enough outside of Atlanta to keep him in office.

Now I hear he’s using his office to give himself a going-away present of what sounds like another tax-sheltered sweetheart land deal. The good old Georgia state government, if would be laughable if the citizens were’t the ones getting the shaft.
