Your morning jolt: Sadie Fields lands a Democratic candidate for governor

Sadie Fields of the Georgia Christian Alliance just sent out another reminder of her big 10 a.m. Saturday gathering of candidates at Riverwood High School in Sandy Springs.

Details are here. The event is usually the largest political gathering of Christian conservatives of the year — and attended almost exclusively by Republican candidates eager to cement their ties to the GOP base.

But this morning’s note from Fields offered the following alphabetical list of candidates for governor who have committed to attending: Jeff Chapman, Nathan Deal, Karen Handel, Eric Johnson, Ray McBerry, John Oxendine, DuBose Porter and Austin Scott.

DuBose Porter?

“DuBose’s faith is important to him. He feels the Democratic message has been misrepresented on faith and looks forward to the opportunity to meet with faith-based organizations in Georgia,” said campaign spokesman Matt Caseman.

Larry J. Sabato, man of the Crystal Ball and director of the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics, this morning says that Republicans are likely to pick up nine governorships in 2010, but lose three they currently occupy. He names Georgia’s race as a toss-up.

All credit must go to Thomas Wheatley of Creative Loafing, who was doing his due diligence Wednesday and plowing through recently filed lobbyist expenditure reports.

He came across a very specific Jan. 12 entry by Gould Hagler, representing the Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia, for an $29.42 expenditure involving state Sen. John Bulloch (R-Ochlocknee).

The purchase? “One-fifth gallon of grain-based distilled coffee additive.”

We’re guessing Irish whiskey.

Senate Democrats will try to match Gov. Sonny Perdue at 1 p.m. today by offering up details of their own plan for state transportation.

Expect a heavy emphasis on MARTA, and dedication of the legendary fourth penny funding for rural areas. Democrats will be pushing for a 2010 vote on a constitutional amendment – not 2012, as the governor now suggests.

Sadie Fields and her Georgia Christian Alliance are so incredibly hateful and intolerant, why would any elected official agree to do anything with them? Unless you look like Sadie, pray like Sadie, and give Sadie’s group money, she’ll rail against ‘ya invoking the Lord the whole time. What a joke.

I admit that I have never heard of Sadie Fields before today. In an effort to learn more, I searched for info on her and found this very informative, yet opinionated, article about her and her daughter.

Interesting stuff.

If that is even somewhat accurate, I don’t know why any politician would befriend such a person. Imagine a woman who disowns her own dauughter being someone whose political support you would seek.

I don’t know if the Irish Whiskey section is hiliarous or totally pathetic. I am leaning pathetic because it involves politians and lobbists, but it would be ‘family guy’ hiliarous in any other setting.

georgiadawg, tell that to the 14 year old prostitute in the back of a squad car. And you think someone else is spouting talking points? Christians line up behind Sadie Fields like lemmings. There’s a reason all these candidates are paying obeisance to her, y’know.

“Christians line up behind Sadie Fields like lemmings.”

Well, to be fair, I am a Christian and while its true that I have only just now heard of Sadie Fields, my first impression is that she is pretty horrible.

Deal and The OX at a Christian gathering? For what? Conversion? To be Born Again?
They are both sleaze. The antithesis of Christianity. And I’ll be the same by not forgiving. The have NO redeeming qualities. Except, maybe, to their Momma and Lobbyists.

georgiadawg -you’re right -Christianity is SUPPOSED to be about love and not hate. Sadie Fields, however, is just about the most hateful human being in this state right now -and that’s saying A LOT! She loves to use Christianity to support her agendas, but she’s a horrible human being. Any candidate who has ANYTHING to do with her in a positive manner will NEVER get a second glance from me. I’m all for candidates having faith and being faithful to their religious beliefs, but not the fascist, horrific ideas that she seems to hold so dear.

Georgiadawg70… YOU are the one who has NO IDEA what you are talking about. It was well reported by many legitimate news organizations that Sadie not only disowned her gay daughter but said the most vicious things about her. Support her all you want, but don’t lie for her. It makes you both look worse than you already do.

Fields and her group are hareful intolerant bigots. It’s scary to me that these candidates are lining up like lemmings to bow at her feet. They would love nothing better than to make Georgia a Christian Taliban where unless you have the same distorted religious beliefs that she has you can get lost or maybe even go to jail. Ask yourself, would Jesus Christ act the way she does?

I agree that Sadie Fields is horrible, but I’m glad DuBose is going to be part of this candidate forum. Speaking at her event does not equal “friending” her, and a truly good candidate will not be afraid to address people who disagree with them on some (many) issues. I think it’s embarrassing how many politicians now limit their engagements to friendly audiences instead of trying to be a leader of more than just their own party, and their supporters should not expect them to shut out opposing voices. Religious or not, Georgians have shared problems — they just don’t all agree on the solutions. A strong leader will talk to and listen to everyone, not just those he knows already support his agenda.

Listen to the words of Ms. Fields’ daughter Tess, and ask yourself if this is the way Christ would act.

I was 24 years old when my mother, through a series of mishaps, found out I was gay. My mother came over to where I worked, screaming, and told me I was “dead” to the family. She called me “sick,” “crazy” and “of the devil.” She said that I would never see my family again. For more than five years after that day, I heard nothing from my family. No birthday cards, no invitations to Christmas or Thanksgiving events. It wasn’t just the loss of my immediate family that was difficult, but the loss of my extended family as well. Since my mother refused to be in the same room with me, it forced my aunts and uncles to choose sides. I have not been to a family reunion in more than a decade.

I just want to point out that all frugal voter EVER does on any of these blogs is slam Deal and Oxendine. While I have to admit, I don’t care for Oxendine, I know Nathan Personally and can vouch for his Christianity and integrity. Frugal voter is nothing more than a basher from one of the other camps…….that much IS obvious.

Woman seems crazy but I agree with HB. The wackos are Georgians too and their voice matters just as much as yours or mine. That said, I’d be sure to distance myself some from her.

Tess’ story is sad. So sad. I can’t imagine doing that to my child. This woman sounds like a monster. BTW why are they using a public school to host a religious event? Glad my niece left that school.

Dear “whatever”, I am not a basher from another camp. I am a concerned, tax paying, Republican citizen that abhors the goings on with Deal and OX. Deal gave up his salvage certification business at a cost of $150K in annual salary. He plans to give up his congressional seat at another $145K per annum. For what? The governship at $135K per year? Certainly he has his sights on reaping more than his past two professions combined. He may be a Christian, but his integrity has to be questioned when he intimidates the regulatory authority about his salvage certification business practices in Casey Cagle’s office with Casey in attendance.

I love Miss Fields. I had the pleasure to meet her about 15 years ago in the North Georgia Mountains on a Christian retreat. She is a beautiful amazing woman who fights for the values of the majority of Georgians. God Bless you Miss Sadie, I love you very much.

As a conservative atheist I say “Love the person, hate the message.”

You Sadie are a beautiful, amazing woman, I hate your message, God Bless you.

Frugal Voter, again, your ASSumptions are ………..bias to say the least. The “salvage certification business,” as you like to call it, is not only a state inspection station. It also has other purposes, legitimate auto salvage “recycling,” if you will, to auto dealers only. Also, the state inspection station was aquired by Nathan and his business partner over 20 years ago. At that time the salvage inspection program was run on a voluntary system, meaning, Nathan and his partner volunteered their facility and therefore was accepted into the program because VERY FEW businesses were willing to shut down their entire facility and regular business for an entire day just for the state to use for the inspections. His integrity is only questioned due to misconstrewn facts. People like you add fuel to that fire. It’s ok. The truth will come out eventually…….people like me will speak up.

whatever

And another thing……..Casey had to be contacted beacuse BART GRAHAM refused to return phone calls to the state salvage inspectors. The inspectors, some whom have been working with Nathan and his partner for up to the length of time that they have had the inspection station, had questions that were not being answered, and Nathan and his partner got the attention and asked the questions………..that is ALL. Of course, now that he is running for Governor……..it is a problem. Again, I stress that they had been doing this for 20 years.

In Sadie Fields’ case, I’m all for “hate the sin, hate the reprehensible facsimile of a human being, trampling others in her quest to be god on earth.” She’d be right at home in Salem circa 1692.

This is all very simple. Miss Sadie and God-fearing folk around the world know that there’s good and evil. The Honorable Sadie Fields is out there on the front lines fighting for the voiceless: Conservative Christians-that the MSM ignores and mocks. You know, we are outnumbered in the media by 8:1 ratio. FOX News, talk radio and this Internets thing are the few places to go where conservatives can feel comfortable to speak their minds and exchange ideas. When I say that states like Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana and my state, Mississippi, are mostly conservative, it’s true, but most folk are silent and scared. People like Miss Sadie speak for them. That’s why I love her so much. She’s a woman who is dedicated to a Christ-centered existence which is the highest form of living on this planet. The funny thing here is–We are Winning! The Obama Agenda has been soundly rejected with the ultimate referendum in Massachusetts. Christian Soldiers will be marching to the polls in November to fire those who agreed with the Socialistic Obama Plan that destroyed this country. In November, the gavel will go to Mr. Boehner who will quickly dismantle Obama’s rancid big government. God-willing, Mr. Boehner will move forward with impeachment hearings followed by a removal hearing in the Senate. At the same time, your Honorable Mr. Oxendine will go Georgia’s governor. He will slice your taxe$, build new roads and shut down your huge Socialistic transit systems. Amen, Bill

Oh yeah one more thing Bill, take Sadie with you. Georgia doesn’t need anymore hateful people. Have you every tried to Pray for Obama to do the right thing instead of wishing harm to him. I thought that is what we as Christians (One that accepts Jesus as the Son of GOD, and who died for our sins, so we all might be saved) should be doing is praying for those leaders. Don’t worry I am praying for you and Sadie.

@d I can take your, “Bill, go back to Mississippi” comment, but the fact is that I have an aunt in your state who I look after and protect. That’s why you see me here because I’m worried that more Godless politicians will be under the Gold Dome in the future — robbing my aunt and Georgians, blind! How do I know so much about Georgians? It’s beyond my visits to North Georgia. I have been all over your state talking with ordinary folks trying to make ends meet. In fact, I met a whole bunch at the Tea Party in Downtown Atlanta. Just like us in Mississippi, the majority of you Georgians believe in a limited government with no/low taxe$.

There are ALWAYS three sides to every story……Mrs. Fields, her daughter & the truth. You don’t actually believe everything the daughter says, do you? Surely not….
