Vernon Jones apparently eyed secretary of state race

I signed up for e-mail from the Vernon Jones campaign for Congress this morning.

Prior to his decision to challenge two-term Democrat Hank Johnson, the former DeKalb CEO and former candidate for U.S. Senate apparently had been considering yet another statewide race – because this was the immediate response sent to the in-box:

Welcome to the Vernon Jones for Secretary of State Campaign. I am honored to have your support of my candidacy.

The glitch may have been fixed. The following was just received, in the last five minutes, from the same account:

As I told you previously, I would let you know my political plans for the future. Today at 2pm, I will be announcing my bid for the Fourth Congressional District Seat in the United States Congress.

Johnson is to announce his re-election bid on Saturday.

One wonders if we’re about to have a discussion about religion. One observant reader notes that on Jones’ new web site, the candidate says “Georgia needs…someone that is humble, a Christian, qualified and experienced, and a Representative who will exemplify statesmanship in the United States Congress.”

Johnson is Buddhist.

Like Denise Majette, Hank Johnson has ably served the 4th District with quiet dignity, no drama and he seems to have no agenda but to represent his constituents as well as he can. Having observed Vernon Jones’ methods of strong-arm governing, his penchant for self-promotion, his tendency to attract negative publicity and the unneccessary litigation costs he has cost the county during his years as DeKalb’s CEO, you can surmise which candidate who will receive my vote!

Hanks “they gonna ride through the countryside in hoods and robes” comment cost him what little credibility he had. Besides, he looks near death.

DeKalb 30-year res. is right on. This man Jones would be a crook if he had enough intelligence to qualify as one. For all the great things Manuel Maloof did for DeKalb County during his lifetime, he did the county a grave disservice when, just before his death, he endorsed V. Jones for CEO. Right sentiment, wrong horse to bet on. Let’s hear it for the quietly effective public servants such as Hank Johnson!

middler and so tired of all the rhetoric :

Couldn’t someone running for office try to appear really humble for a change…and honest? If Jones had left DeKalb not better, but just as well off as when he took office, on his last day perhaps he would offer something for the citizens of DeKalb. This run is just another ego trip for a person so full of himself and so interested in riding the gravy train. And if his election staff is this inept on such a minor thing, what will they do if he wins this office?

Senator. Governor. Secretary of State. Congressman. Jones continues his desperate search for a position of power.

Given the number of police officers he insisted on serving him as DeKalb CEO, I can just envision his security detail if elected to Federal office.

We don’t need Jones’ mountain-sized ego, his questionable conduct or his lack of results.

Just read Vermin’s announcement. Excuse me, but does anyone else find it creepy that he keeps referring to himself in third person?

It is amazing that you guys always try not to focus on the facts.

Fact:s:
Vernon led Dekalb county during 2 recessions and was able to build sidewalks, repave roads, and cut no services to its citizens.

Vernon Jones did not raise taxes or lay off any employees.

Vernon has an excellent relationship with the citizens and knows the needs of the people.

Hank has lost touch with the 4th District and based on my facts Vernon Jones has my support.

Will gay vote automatically go to Vernon?

Built sidewalks where? Not in front of my house, not in my neighborhood. Vernon had a decent first term, but a cloud of smoke was lifted in the second term, and he was standing there naked, with two women in his bedroom; one of them with a subpoena in her hand. Not a pretty sight

amosley – Is there another DeKalb County, other than the one I live in? Did that other DeKalb County also have a Vernon Jones that served as CEO? Must be, because the one who ran the DeKalb County I live in surely didn’t do the great job you outline.

The Vernon Jones who was in charge of my DeKalb County destroyed the county government. He barely won re-election and failed to carry the county when he ran for US Senate. He was responsible for bringing in TeBo, a mistake that cost our county many good police officers.

He couldn’t work with the commission. What makes him think we want him in Congress, where working with other people is key? Congress is about negotiating, not trying to run over everyone and bully your way. McKinney showed us that method does not work.

While I feel bad for Mr. Jones and understand how hard he is trying to make the people around here give him a job, we have seen that he is not suited for power and have resoundingly rejected him a couple times already. When will he take the hint and just go away?

Well the Dekalb County I live in went from having no sidewalks, no street Lights, not efficient traffic lights, terrible traffic, No resturants, grocery stores, and no Stonecrest Mall. What Dekalb do you think I’m talkin about? Im Talkin about Panola Rd, Fairington Rd, Salem Rd, Browns Mill Rd, Turner Hill Rd, Rainbow Dr, Flat Shoals Parkway,Covington Highway, Redan Rd, Glenwood Rd and Evans Mill Rd. When Vernon Jones was in office there was, for the first time in my life ,One Dekalb County.not a north and south Dekalb. Everybody had equal services, equal retail, and representation in government. I belive Vernon can take those same ideas to Wahington and improve not just Dekalb but the entire 4th Distric and maybe this great Nation.

vote baby!

Gotta love that campaign slogan I MIGHT NOT HAVE A TIGER BY THE TAIL, BUT I GET MORE TAIL THAN TIGER!

I had the pleasure of running into Vernon Jones several weeks ago around 3:00am. He was grinding to an LL Cool J song on the dance floor of a popular bar with a girl who couldn’t have been more than 19. I looked her in the eyes and tried to convince her to run for her life, but she was too fixated on Vernon and his lecherous hands. He then proceeded to buy everyone in the bar shots, take four himself, french kiss the said 19 year old, then go outside onto the street and dry hump with her for a solid half hour. I told him he would make a fine Congressman. Then I jumped off a building.

V. Jones may have a chance if he drops the pretense and he runs as a Republican.

If you notice, those sidewalks are on state roads. Vernon brags about a balanced budget, but he lies. When he left, the county was really 50 million dollars in the hole, numerous lawsuits to settle because this man was a fool, 7 million dollars lost and un-accounted for, so on, and so, and so on. Why don’t you just go away Vernon! Oh yeah,Connie Stokes, what a joke.

I wonder what the real problem is with some of you people??? You stretch the truth or should I say…just lie!!!??? What’s the real root to the problem that (you very clearly have)? I have lived in DC for more than 20yrs and the one thing I do know is that Vernon Jones served this county well! He’s the best man for the job and you know it! I would suggest that you take a good look at yourself (in the mirror). What do see?
