The Bible and the Alabama race for governor

This from the Huntsville, Ala., Times:

HUNTSVILLE, AL – “I believe the Bible is true,” Republican gubernatorial candidate Bradley Byrne said here Wednesday. “Every word of it.”

Byrne’s testimony came as he tried to clarify an earlier statement seized on by his opponents for the GOP nomination.

Byrne had been quoted in the Mobile Press-Register in November as saying, “I believe there are parts of the Bible that are meant to be literally true and parts that are not.”

That quote has followed him, including to his appearance at a Piggly Wiggly grocery store in New Hope, where Byrne came to announce his first big endorsement this year, from the Alabama Retail Association.

When notice of the press conference was posted on al.com Wednesday morning, several posters said things similar to this:

“Just got a call from a person at my Church letting me know about this,” said uafan1198. “My family will not be shopping at Ragland Piggly Wiggly stores anymore or anything else they own…. I don’t shop at places that think it is OK to stand next to people who don’t believe the Bible is all true.”

This is why the people who wrote the Constitution put in that part about no religious tests for public office.

Bonus points for uafan1198: How did Judas die?

(Here’s a hint: look at Matthew 27:3-8 and then Acts 1:16-19.)

This is why I’m glad I don’t live in Alabama. Oh wait, I live in Georgia where Repubs demanded that “In God We Trust” be put on our state flag. Georgia has good company though. Iraq and Saudi Arabia also put the name of God on their flags.

Sweet home, Alabama, where the Lord loves gambling and the Governor doesn’t….

WOW!!!!! I don’t know what to say about this one……however, at least, for the most part, the Alabama Legislature are not hypocrites. Tell me, and I ask this as a Christian, how does anyone on this planet know that every word written in the Bible is absolutely correct? Please, unless you have researched the subject very thoroughly, don’t bother to comment on my comment.

Ah yes, now we go to Alabama to write about the Republicans. Obsessive, Jim? Are there any topics about Dems out there? How about Roy Barnes’ fund-raising and all the crony lawyers that have contributed to his campaign? Nah, write some more about Republicans.

If they outlaw gambling they’ll just pay off the politicians and have it in back rooms anyhow, like in Knoxville and other places. Governor Riley is even up against Troy King, his attorney general. Troy likes Nashville and interprets law to favor gambling, and was a client of political consultant, Ralph Gonzalez, who at one time, reportedly headed up Georgia’s GOP (before he was murdered.)

Was musing a bit last night and thought we should give Texas back to Mexico, the only caveat is they would have to take Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama too.

Alabama’s bible thumpin’ Repbulican road show actually makes me feel a little better about the goofy right-wingers here. Well, in comparison our GOP seems almost reasonable.

Didn’t Jesus say, “You will be closer to the father with a Glock in one hand and the holy text in the other”?

To INTOWN LIB: The Saudis and Iraqis put the name of their cult god, little “g”, on their flag. The God upon which our Forefathers depended for their wisdom for the founding of our great Republic is real, the only God, the God of the Trinity, one of which is the only Lord and Savior for the world, the Lord Jesus Christ. This is not an opinion, it is a fact.

Stand Watie:

Are you really that ignorant? The holy book of Islam, the Koran, expressly states in about a hundred different places that the God of Abraham, Moses and Jesus is the one true God. Muslims worship the same God as Christians and Jews. You cannot even BE a Muslim unless you believe that Moses and Jesus were messengers of God.

Spend a few minutes on Wikipedia, for Heaven’s sake.

Apparently, he was against the Bible before he was for it. Byrne was also for tax increases before he was against them. He was for Democrats until he was for Republicans. It’s starting to look like a pattern, here.

Love thine enemies. Therefore drop bombs on them and kill them because you love them. But, before you do that, be sure to buy stock in the bomb companies so that you may increase and multiply your wealth. And never, ever stop or shop at Piggly Wiggly, anywhere!

Is Byrne any kin to the Cobb Byrne family? Is the Vinson family of Paulding kin to the Alabama/Florida judge family? Is the Bodiford family kin to the Florida panhandle judge? Interesting if these are judicial and political dynasties across the South.

Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear

Stand Waite muslims read the bible and the quran. They know our book better than some of us. As far as the politician, he is stupid. Politics and religion really should not MIX. that breeds stupid.

Thank God for Alabama! It, along with a few other states, makes Georgia look better.
