Among the factors that must be considered in discussing the future of House Speaker Glenn Richardson are reactions from Republican women and the party’s conservative Christian base.
In the weeks following his attempted suicide, GOP expressions of sympathy and restraint abounded. But Susan Richardson’s account broadcast on WAGA last night is quickly changing the picture.
Sadie Fields, leader of the Georgia Christian Alliance, just offered this thought:
“Divorce is painful for all involved and there are no winners. However, in light of recent disclosures, perhaps it is time for members of the House to re-evaluate the qualities they have a right to expect from their leader.”
It is not an opinion without weight.

Jim, you know that no one is interested in the Glenn Richardson story today. People are tuned in to the mayor’s race. I guess the TV news stations will be up to their usual tricks on election day. It will be 0% of the precincts reporting, but they will still tell us Norwood is in the lead. That way, they condition us to view her as the frontrunner, and to be “shocked” if she doesn’t win. Just look at how Matt Towery REFUSES TO ADMIT that Kasim has surpassed Norwood in the polls. His Insider Advantage poll claims the candidates are “dead even”. Remember, his poll said the same thing about Lisa Borders and Kasim Reed on Nov. 3. And yet, Reed received 36% of the vote and Borders received 14%. But all of the Atlanta news media continues to cite Matt Towery’s poll.
Kasim has picked up steam and endorsements during the runoff period. They said on Nov. 3 that Norwood received 46% of the votes, and Kasim 36%. But since, Reed was endorsed by Borders, therefore picking up some of her 14% slice of voters. He was endorsed by Senate candidate Jim Martin and former governor Roy Barnes. Kasim has surpassed Norwood and you guys know it. If the exact same situation were reversed, and Norwood was the one picking up all the political endorsements and being endorsed by other mayoral candidates, Matt Towery would have said that “Mary Norwood is now leading in the polls”. He will not admit that Kasim is now in the lead. Because then, people would be expecting him to win. And let me repeat: The Insider Advantage Poll said that Reed and Borders were “neck and neck”. Even though Kasim received 36% of the vote, compared to Borders’ 14%. It’s time to bury Towery’s rigged poll.

Actually, Matt Towery was on WSB last night and this morning saying that conventional wisdom has Kasim Reed winning today. Also, while many people are focused on the Atlanta mayoral race, I’m also paying attention to this Glenn Richardson story, partially because it will have implications for the State House.

If anyone knows about divorce and how destructive it is to the American family, it’s Sadie Fields. Maybe she should focus her energy on adopting a constitutional amendment banning divorce, and stop bullying gay and lesbian Georgians every chance she gets.
And speaking of gay people and Richardson, I remember him “apologizing” to his wife and other ladies during the gay marriage debate in 2004, saying that he was ashamed to be talking about such topics in public. Mr. Richardson, you should be ashamed of yourself — ashamed for what you put your wife, mother and other loved ones through, and ashamed for being such a hypocritical bully who was so weak and incompetent that you couldn’t even kill yourself despite having pills and a gun.

This man is in a melt-down. His friends need to step in to help him get the time away from the spotlight to reflect, rethink, and get his life back in order. He has some praying to do.
The voters have a right to expect the political leadership to have a speaker who can function and who is honest. I don’t want him out because he had an affair – I want him out if it is proven that he had an affair with a lobbyist while pushing legislation the lobbyist wanted.
