Mary Norwood gaining on Kasim Reed
Half the precincts in Fulton County have reported now, and Kasim Reed’s lead has fallen below 54 percent.
Over at his campaign headquarters — the Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta — the mood was subdued, says our reporter on the scene, Cameron McWhirter. Mayor Shirley Franklin was there but wouldn’t talk to him.

Man, I’m with all you guys. These numbers are all over the place. And I think the headline here simply doesn’t match the reality of the numbers here. 54/46 with 66% reporting is a pretty comfortable lead. The question: who has the right numbers? AJC/Channel 2 or 11Alive?

Mary wins or we will replace our Mary Norwood sign for a “For Sale” sign. Atlanta is hopelessly living in the past. Since the 1970’s it has lost it’s prominance in business and banking. It is now only a name, Only a reformer who is outside of the democratic vice will have any chance of changing the situation. We need an independant like Mary. Too bad AJC could not see that.

I am with you. My tax’s will continue to rise in this city.. I can’t afford the $7,000 tax bill. I can’t afford the massive water/sewer bills. We conserve water, and use rain barrels, and have been lucky with all this rain.. We rarely water what little yard I have… I still have over $100 a month water/sewer bills.. I pay higher rates for electricity than people outside of the perimeter.
I pay more and more and more. I get nothing.. No public service, just lip service from the crooks in this cities pockets.. They treat the drunks and addicts on the streets, with more service than I pay for and get.
This city is going in the wrong direction as well. The killing, robbing, mugging, home invasions.. The homeless population grows, the jobs decline, the companies are moving away. You can’t go out anywhere without your gun, and if you do, the whack jobs want to cry about it.
I’d rather take the $25,000 a year I’d save in the EXTRA cost of living, and move outside the perimeter..
The city can continue it’s trend of biting the hand that feeds it, and continue to service those who leech the system to dust.. This city worries about socio-economic, and color more than it does of better living for everyone.
This cities books will always be worked BY and FOR the blacks, but the financial books will never be IN the black. You can take that to the bank.

omg, i’m a former atlantan and came online to check the paper today. these comments make me very sad. i’m african american and one of first experiences in atlanta was with a very old white woman who was making a huge contribution to the nonprofit i was hired to lead. after talking a while she said, ‘i don’t like yankees.’ yes, i was born in the north, but please. i looked her in the eye and said, ‘i moved here from california.’ undeterred she said, ‘i like them even less.’ unbowed, i replied, ‘and i think herschel walker is the greatest player uga ever produced.’ go dawgs. can’t stand those bumblebee tuna boys. she added a zero. we became great friends because we got to know each other.
stop throwing the ugliness and look for ways to work together. this society is falling apart.

It’s good to know that your against anyone for any form of leadership based on the regional dialect and natural drawl they might have. It’s good to know that the certain pronunciations that people have for similar words, is a defining point in your choice.

RTR, how is it that you pay more for electricity? Georgia Power’s rates are regulated. Taxes on my last bill were under four dollars. Even if those OTP pay no tax on their bill, four dollars is a pretty small difference. Are you friends OTP perhaps in a co-op rather than Georgia Power?
