Throughout this mayoral campaign, Mary Norwood has run the more aggressive TV campaign – perhaps not in eyeballs or points, but certainly in content.
There’s no embed code available, but this is the link to her closing ad, which started last week. Norwood is on a porch swing, and says:
Some people are trying to divide our city along racial lines. But whether we are white our black, live on the noth side or the south side, we are one city and we need to have one government that actually responds to every neighborhood, delivers services and solves problems.
The ad served as fodder for a major portion of Sunday’s final televised debate on WSB, as rival Kasim Reed pressed her to identify who “some people” were. Norwood declined. A session this morning on V-103/WAOK presented Norwood with a similar question. She gave a near identical response.
Reed’s final TV ad is more of a traditional, feel-good wrap-up. But the ad does have a narrator who promises that Reed will “clean up the mess in City Hall” – presumably a nod to the anti-incumbent fever out there that must be acknowledged. To wit:

Mary Norwood has been on the Atlanta City Council for eight years. What, exactly has she accomplished? She has spent the whole time campaigning for Mayor, going around the city and meeting citizens and telling them what she believes they want to hear. But, in eight years, she’s DONE next to nothing for us. “Change” would be for us to get some new blood in City Hall. “Change” is NOT promoting someone who’s been on the job for eight years and hasn’t effected anything of significance. Don’t confuse “perkiness” with effectiveness, voters!

I don’t care about black or gay people, funny! If you only knew, Mr. Grant Park’s race and sexual preference were and are irrelevant to this conversation and it’s the same type of distractions that Mary Norwood have been using over the past year.
No one (of any intelligence and substance) cares about how many meeting she’s been to, what I do care about is how much of my taxpayer dollars have been spent on this foolishness. All the while she’s been driving around town “meeting” with people and campaigning on the city dime, the same problems have been persisting and now she wants a shot at higher office? I think not! I am a white, gay man with a black parter and we are voting for Reed, but guess what? That’s not important!
AH you’re just one of those people that will do anything to see this God-awful hillbilly get elected.
You’re holding Atlanta back, get out of the way. We are proud that Mr. Reed has stuck by us on so many issues that are important to ALL Atlantans and Karla Drenner gave us all the confidence we needed.
Go Kasim for a better Atlanta!

THIS is the difference:
Read the above posts: Reed attacks, and so does his supporters when they are down and out.
Mary does NOT attack. She is going to RIGHT a wrong ship, as best she can..
Our fine city is in such a mess ( just like Obama inherited), it may take a minute…..but this lady will do a fine job !
Can she do worse than Franklin, and her protege Reed?
That would take effort.
God Bless whomever wins tomorrow !
I’ll support whomever wins, unlike some of you.
This city is a mess, shame, and disgrace.
Anything and anyone is an improvement.

Oh I’m sorry I thought since the bulk of Reed supports run around saying I’M WHITE, I’M WHITE and I support Reed that maybe, just maybe some people seem to care about race and/or orientation in this race. I kinda got that impression from some of the Reed supporters since they make such a big deal about it.

Look Grant Park Resident guess what Reed is not Shirley Franklin so why are you category Reed with shirley look at the record with Norwood she have been in the city hall for 8 yrs and have not done nothing. Reed is a state rep so how can you determine Reed is like Shirley.
Grant Park Resident you are wrong I know you are of these Norwood staff using different name on here. Look Teela we know you work for Norwood which is ZEE Bradford

I missed the postings where White Reed supporters were getting on here and blasting loudly their race and preference. Stop exploiting yourselfs and vote issues. I only hear Norwood supporters announcing their God-given classifications on here, as if it will sway voters. Like I said before, stupidity comes in all shapes, sizes, ethnicities and orientations.
Why don’t you do us all a favor and go do some canvassing? I’m volunteering for Reed, the real Democrat in this race, and blogging from my Iphone as we speak. Did I mention my Iphone, oh that was irrelevant – especially since i’ve already mentioned that I was white and gay.

In Vine City when we need Mary…she is there. When we have problems with crack houses…she actually knocks on their doors. We need a Mayor that will be hands on. If you live intown in one of the neighborhoods that constantly gets forgotten in terms of City services you would understand the need for Mary Norwood. I am not here to speak poorly about Kasim Reed as that does nothing but ignite the fire of comments. I am here to let people know that Atlanta is just not Downtown Midtown and Buckhead…there are over 130 neighborhoods in Atlanta and Mary has touched each and every one of them in a special way. GO MARY NORWOOD!

Rick the Messed Up Fool is such a one trick pony. Hopefully he will use his time AFTER the election to get some further English classes…
Something, God, Please! It is agony to read his posts. poor fellow.
I have never been a staffer of Norwood’s nor do I have the precious time. However, I am voting for Norwood, if ONLY because she will be a fresh breeze from all the usual politics. And yes, it does help that she’s a woman to me.
“Mary Norwood can understand and bring together the white women of Atlanta because OUR interests are being severely curtailed. (fill in the blanks here.)”
Now, that a stupid statement. I just changed the words ‘blacks’ for ‘white women’.
Here in Atlanta the vast majority of authorities are BLACK and black people are worried about their ‘interests’ are being forgotten???. Because of a white face?
Grow the ___ up.
IF you are so invested in this thinking, turn around and look at your Police Chief/Mayor/etc…and see what color they are.
This is stupid. All of it. But I have been given a look at the underbelly in the words of Rick/Mess Up/etc. here.
And that is what we face in Atlanta: all of us who have the sense to know the difference: Ignorance.
And Ignorance is what the current leaders and supporters of Kasim Reed are banking on.
And racial division.
Everyone get out and vote tomorrow, regardless for whom.

Mary Norwood is a MESS!!!! She lies so much that she is painted plastic. If she were a Kathy Ashe or even Karla Drenner (people who have an honest record of really doing what’s right) then I would vote for her. She is no Hillary Clinton, but painfully similar to a Sarah Palin. She never has answered a darn question in this entire race. I was considering her but over the past weeks I see she is terrible. I see why the city is broke!!!!!!! One call web!!! Hell I should just run for office and charge everything back to my own company!! That’s the way to make money!

Anybody who owed years of back taxes should be disqualified from being Mayor. The tax rules applies to everyone but Reed. His excuses sound like a 4 year old.
