Woof, beep! Replace Uga with a bulldog robot, says PETA

While it sounds like something Georgia Tech might suggest, Tim Bryant with WGAU (1340AM) in Athens just posted this:

People for Ethical Treatment of Animals has a suggestion for the University of Georgia, which is looking for a replacement for Uga VII, the Georgia Bulldog mascot who died last Thursday in Savannah:

PETA says the University should use what it calls an “animatronic dog,” or use a person in a costume. PETA has sent its suggestion via e-mail to University of Georgia Athletic Director Damon Evans. The PETA e-mail follows…

In the wake of the untimely death of the University of Georgia’s (UGA) bulldog mascot, Uga VII, PETA has asked the school’s athletic director, Damon M. Evans, to replace the mascot with an animatronic dog–or to rely solely on a costumed mascot–instead of using another real bulldog. Bulldogs are prone to breathing difficulties, hip dysplasia, heart disorders, and other congenital ailments, and acquiring a dog from a breeder perpetuates the animal overpopulation crisis while causing another dog waiting in an animal shelter to be condemned to death.

Could they build it with missile technology to destroy other mascots?

This is the worst idea from the goofiest, lamest organization in the world. Why don’t we replace PETA with animatronic morons that put in their two-cents where it isn’t necessary all the time?

Dear God, I think I might agree with PETA on something- I went to UGA and love the Ugas, but over the last few years, they’ve become too big because of inbreeding. If the Seiler’s want to keep the tradition alive and not have to worry about Uga dying every two years, take the pure white male and mate it with a female not related. So what if Uga XII has commoner blood in it? :)
But then I see the robotic dog idea and the agreeing stopped. Normalcy returns.

Things like this article show me just how far off the deep end these PETA idiots are. Every time I read anything about PETA in the news, I take the entire family to Wendy’s…burgers for everyone. The triple cheese with everything is excellent.

I wish we could replace PETA with a bunch of animatronic dogs. That way we wouldn’t have to listen to their babble.

It is disturbing that an university with a veterinary school would allow and support an unhealthy breeding operation. They need to tell Sonny and family, thanks for the memories but it is time to move on. I also think the university should do something to further research into the genetic diseases that plague man and animal alike.

PETA needs to get their heads out of their asses and worry about real problems. UGA was never mistreated and I really doubt that being the mascot had any cause on his death. PETA IS A BUNCH OF WACKOS!

These poor dogs are so inbreeded like their fans that they develop serious health issues and die of a short life. At least all of them are treated very well. I hate PETA but they may have a point. Gooosh, that left a bad taste in my mouth.

PETA is right about the facts when it come to how pure bulldogs are bred and the resulting health challenges.

Humans just have to ask themselves if that really matters compared to the enjoyment we get out of having a live mascot such as uga.

How about this, why don’t we just use animatronics Football Players! Football players are prone to hip, knee and shoulder injuries, occasional breathing problems and on rare occasions, heart failures. And acquiring football players perpetuates the crisis of taking under-qualified students, leaving another student waiting in the pound, er, workforce.

Can people who don’t know what they are talking about please control yourselves? Why do you have to show up and make foolish comments about how UGA fans are inbred? Wow, how intelligent and original. And ALL pedigree-level animals are “inbred”. It is not the same as humans, for heaven’s sake. Does this mean species-specific defects exist? Yes, but in Uga VII’s case this was a heart attack. I’m not about to suggest a person stop breeding because their family has a history of heart attacks. And as far as lifestyle, Uga is checked at the vet clinic every time he comes to Athens. He is well looked after. Know what you’re talking about.
