A virtual press conference for ATL runoff candidates

One of the last political events in the city of Atlanta before turkey fever kicks in will happen at the Capitol City Club at 4:30 p.m. today.

The Committee for a Better Atlanta will host a gathering of candidates in all the city’s undecided races, from mayor on down.

It’s a semi-private affair, but organizers are attempting to draw the city’s blogging community into the session by hosting a virtual press conference, conducted via Twitter and such. Hash tag is #atlmayor.

Click here for the info. Give it a try and see how it works.

The CBA is a collection of business leaders who weigh in on city issues. It’s been around for more than a decade – it was started by former mayor Sam Massell and Metro Chamber president Sam Williams.

CBA rated mayoral candidates earlier in the campaign, giving top marks to Lisa Borders, who was eliminated in the Nov. 3 vote.

Reed's smear attempt had a short half life

November 24th, 2009

Anyone else notice how quickly the Reed camp retreated on the missed procedural vote when it was pointed that the results were decided in advance and the openly gay Anne Fauver also missed the vote?

Still, I can see the frustration Norwood supporters must have at times. Why wasn’t the fact that openly gay Anne Fauver missed the vote as well the FIRST THING the Norwood camp pointed out? Have they even pointed out YET?

Talk about missing a golden opportunity to make the Reed camp look stupid by implying the openly gay Anne Fauver opposes LGBT rights along with Norwood.

Why didn’t the Norwood camp point this out? Why are the people who are PAID to think things through, not THINKING THINGS THROUGH?

Reed did a great job at the press conference he was the smartest person in the room. Norwood looked so lost and incompetent. I was a Norwood supporter but now I’m voting for Reed and I am going to tell all my friends to do the same.

Oh and these posters are racist.

There I just saved Reed’s campaign about 4 hours of posting they can take the night off, enjoy.

If Long had REALLY been thinking, he would have worked with the Norwood camp to get a SECOND camera in place, so when he confronted the Reed camp about the payoff they would have had the physical intimidation on VIDEO!

Why oh why aren’t the people who are PAID to think these things through, THINKING THESE THINGS THROUGH?

Post of the day. You’ve saved everyone a bunch of time and headache “reading” the Reed supporters babble.

Reed's smear attempt had a short half life

Why has the Norwood camp blown a golden opportunity, when the Reed camp was caught red handed paying someone to steal signs, by letting the Reed camp turn this into he said, she said?

There is a photograph readily available on the web, from a news source, that the Reed camp admits is not a fake, of a black Nissan SUV, Cherokee county tag, parked at KASIM REED campaign headquarters with Norwood signs clearly visible in the back. The car is purported to be that of a high level Reed staffer.

Black Nissan SUV, parked at Reed headquarters, purported to be that of a high level Reed staffer, with Norwood signs clearly visible in the back?

Does the Norwood camp need it delivered ON A SILVER PLATTER? Must EVERYTHING be spelled out to them?

Follow up the Long video WITH the photograph, WITH the name of the high level Reed staffer the car allegedly belongs to. Then you can show the world once and for all how dishonest the Reed camp has been about the signs.

What is the Norwood camp waiting for? December 2nd? Why aren’t the people who are PAID to think things through, THINKING THINGS THROUGH?

Taking fashion cues from the racist mob that “greeted” James Meredith at Ole Miss in 1962, two sixty-something white guys with crewcuts, white shirts, and glasses were putting Mary Norwood flyers on mailboxes in Buckhead yesterday…and Mary Bush Norwood couldn’t recall whether she voted for her cousin for president.

Well now Will Jones

So Will Jones, short hair, a white shirt, and glasses makes you automatically opposed to Civil Rights for African-Americans?

Who knew Malcolm X was opposed to Civil Rights for African-Americans? Learn something new every day. Thanks Will Jones.

Why does it alway come down to a lawsuit for the City to act right? They’ll win and we will pay. If the Police support Reed, then I am firmly against him. This taxpayer is tierd of paying out lawsuits because of inept management! MARY NORWOOD on DECEMBER 1!!!

Atlanta Eagle patrons file federal lawsuit against city:

Look every cop is not bad because if the police dept support that dont mean Reed stand for them particular cops who raided Eagle so you need to think wisely what you say on here it seem like you already was against Reed and that you trying to blame Reed for what the police did to Eagle.

The constant dismissal of sign-stealing on video reminded me of how an abuser would treat a battered partner: Look, it’s nothing. You caused it. It doesn’t really matter. There are bigger things to worry about.

Certainly: Reed is not acting like a real man but a thuggish abuser. Only he could turn this race into a discussion about upholding Atlanta’s Civil Rights legacy, ignoring the hypocrisy of such a stance.

@ Rick – If you actually read it I said “If the Police support Reed, then I am firmly against him”. Never said he did it or anything for that matter. Their support is ANOTHER reason I will not vote for him.

Why won’t the Norwood camp discuss the photograph of the black Nissan SUV, Reed sticker on the back, Cherokee county tags, found at KASIM REED CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS with Norwood signs clearly visible in the back?

The one that at least one media source says belongs to a HIGH LEVEL Reed campaign operative.

Present it WITH the Long video, and then let the world see once and for all how dishonest the Reed camp has been about condoning theft at the highest levels of their campaign?

Why can’t the Norwood staffers who are getting PAID to think these things through, THINK THESE THINGS THROUGH?

Atlanta Eagle patrons file federal lawsuit against city:

You are a Norwood supporter stop trying to make excuse on here to turn people on here against Reed. I have not made up my mind but I will soon I was a Border supporter….Look when President Obama was running for president people was talking bad about him and look who endorse him the KKK do that make President Obama believe in what the teaches. I am sure Obama didnt care for there endorsement. So if certain police officers did that to Eagle nite club do that make Reed a bad person if the police dept endorse Reed. So if you supporting Norwood just say so stop maken excuse so gay people want endorse Reed.

Why bother to vote your mind when its so much easier to vote the way every influential Black leader in Atlanta is telling you to vote – Reed. Just goes to show you the trouble with Atlanta and in America.

My mind, not black leaders, are telling this white man to vote for Reed and let Ms. Norwood retire. Her candidacy is absolutely laughable.

I am not listening to nobody telling me to vote for who because I dont care for Reed or Norwood it going to be the same. I am going to choose between Reed and Norwood. I think Norwood a nice lady but I am skeptical voting for her and Reed just seem like he confuse on alot of issue this city have. But overall these Norwood supporter treating everyone bad on here make me feel like Norwood is like them I have been call drunkie, dumb, drughead, crackhead, stupid, illiterate by norwood supporter so I am going to chose soon. I wish border was running against Norwood.

this is horrible campaigning

Ahhh, Rick, what are you an as you write these little literary master pieces? Are you sure that the reason someone called you “drunkie, dumb, drughead, crackhead, stupid” had anything to do with politics? At the very least you should consider having a friend or first grader or even a friend that is a first grader review your posts. This is from the heart and meant in the best possible way.

Boy oh boy a continuation of the existing corrupt political machine or an emaciated ultra conservative Nancy Reagan worshiper. I mean how high can my water bill go?

Reed is not for the people

November 24th, 2009

I lost respect for Reed when I found out he represented corporate America against the American people (Cracker Barrel v. NAACP). He actually fought against the people and supported the corporation being accused of discrimination. Reed as a mayor would not be supporting the best interest of the people. I am voting for Norwood.

Atlanta Progressive News Put up or shut up

November 24th, 2009
11:35 pm

Atlanta Progressive News, you came on the web and strongly, very strongly implied that Kasim Reed’s Canvassing Mgr. was in possession of stolen Norwood signs in the back of his vehicle parked at Kasim Reed campaign headquarters. You claimed sources told you that a black Nissan SUV, with Cherokee County tags, with Norwood campaign signs in the back belonged to the Reed staffer.

It’s time to put up or shut up. Either confirm that the black Nissan SUV with Cherokee tags found in the Reed parking lot with Norwood signs belongs to a Reed campaign staffer, or offer an apology to the Reed campaign along with a full retraction.

To have not followed up since November 2, especially in light of the recent accusations by Ralph Long, makes you look shoddy and makes organizations like Creative Loafing who have questioned your professionalism look completely credible in that criticism.

Plus, if you are supporting Norwood, you really aren’t doing her any favors by leaving an allegation like that just hanging out there with no confirmation one way or the other.

When are y’all gonna pay off that Reed volunteer again to say that he was paid by Long to act like he was stealing Norwood signs? He’s prolly mighty hungry–he’s liable to say anything for the right price. Ah well, those volunteers know the gravy train ends on election night, when they’ll probably come visit your offices to collect. Hope you’ll have more than just hot tea and sympathy on offer! :-D

I find it very interesting that those who support Mr. Reed can so easily try to “cover” and explain away allegations of improper, and possibly illegal, behaviors and seem not to give the pattern of behavior any thought whatsoever. In comparison, accusations against Ms. Norwood are slight attempts to discredit her actual record in government (most of the time to be proven inaccurate attacks), not for any kind of improper behaviors. To me, it is a telling scenario that gives insight into the true character and content of Mr, Reed and his camp. I do not know if Mr. Reed personally knew about, or condoned, any sign stealing, but to surround yourself with that kind of people, again, speaks to what type of administration he might if elected. I would rather have someone in office that has ethics and morals and believes that a public official, especially a Mayor, should rise above the crowd. For a change, it would be nice to not have a Mayor in Atlanta embroiled in some type of ethics scandal and questions into improper contract bidding, favors to friends/family, and instead to have someone that actually cares about the city instead their own pocket or political aspirations.

Search the records. Who has done more for Atlanta during their years as an elected Official? Evaluate both candidates on their own record, not what someone else has done in the past or on silly comments about whose campaign is pulling up yard signs! Give me a break!

Based on how far Reed has come in the polls, I would project that he will go all the way on December 1. As for me and my household, we will give Reed an opportunity to continue his track record of delivering for Atlanta.
