Mary Norwood intends to step up her attack against Atlanta’s status quo in this 30-second ad, set to begin running Saturday. It will be the first TV ad of the runoff :
This spot is similar to an earlier — and very effective — Norwood ad that took viewers to the scenes of various murders in the city. This one focuses on the issue of City Hall competence. Here’s the script:
“A hundred million dollars misplaced. 150,000 water meter covers – that don’t fit. 20 minutes to respond to 911 calls because of closed fire stations. And a man got shot right here, mowing is lawn. I’m Mary Norwood, and this should never happen in a great city.
“On the City Council, I took on the developers and the city bureaucracy. As mayor, I’ll hold people accountable. And my highest budget priority will be hiring more police. Every neighborhood deserves to be safe.”

More proof that Mary knows that no one is actually voting for her. She can only hope people will vote against something…no matter how undefined it may be.

And Kasim Reed is… for waste? caused the waste? ordered those water meter covers? closed those fire stations? shot that man? Nope
What a dumb commercial and a waste of money. Kasim wasn’t responsible for any of those problems (if he was, she would have mentioned it) so what the heck does this have to do with the runoff? She could have shortened it to a 5 second blip on taking on bureaucracy and hiring more cops. This actually makes me like Kasim more because he doesn’t waste his money on this garbage.
Oh, and you look like a free handout to the first 15,000 fans 13 and under at a Braves game

Has Norwood’s campaign found her yet or is she still in hiding? Once the heat turned up she scatter like a little mouse. Lol. She’s not ready for the big time.

@Mary…Yea, that sounds REALLY intelligent. Let me get this straight…the person who was in the lead by 10 points 2 weeks ago and got more votes than any other elected official this year or the last election or the election before that doesn’t have anyone voting for her???? Are you on drugs???

@Mary Norwood: that’s why the entire political machine is against you. You were a pain to the Mayor. The Mayor hates you. That’s why you had to fight for everything. And that’s why you have more support across the city than any Atlanta politician in a generation.

When viewing the new commercial, I immediately recalled that August day I almost broke my ankle or died while knocking on voter doors as a candidate for state representative in East Atlanta.
I stepped on a water meter cover that didn’t fit. I was saved by a lissome reaction that fortunately comes with youth and athleticism, I suppose.
That could have been a disaster. If I had fallen, I would have rolled down a steep hill and into oncoming traffic.
Way to highlight a problem that could have led to my deathbed!

Very good commercial, with all the endorsements Kasim has been lining up, its nice to see Mary hanging in there and not getting trumped by the machine. I really wish this election was over and we can start a new path in Atlanta. Not a new path because of someone’s race, but a path to follow of a politician that’s actually talked to regular and low people of the city and helped them with basic questions we all expect from our officials and not just talking with the connected people.

I think its a great commercial; however, I dont see where she is attacking Kasim Reed per Bobble Head’s accusation. She is asserting these issues are a problem, and they most certainly are problems that that need addressing immediately–regardless of who is mayor or becomes mayor. We need more police; we need to support of firefighters and provide them with better facilities; we need to stop the fiscal mismanagement of our taxdollars by an inefficient city hall; we need to keep our sidewalks clean and secure; we need to support all residents and homeowners who want to live in Atlanta and protect our lives and property. We are sick of criminals running the streets and shooting us in our workplaces and on our lawns and invading the sanctity of our homes; we are tired of smash and grabs; we are sick of being neglected at the expense of a nepotism and mismanagment. We want to live in a safe and great Atlanta. Enough is enough.

Why do Norwood is lying about everything she done,,,Norwood have been in city hall for 8 yrs and her record showed that she help close 20 recreation center in the neighborhood that needed. Mary Norwood why we have so many pot holes in Midtown by Ga Tech. Norwood why have you done anything about the smell by 5 points. Why have you been in city hall for 8 yrs and you not fixing up downtown and we see everything going up in Buckhead I bet them republicans helping your campaign out.

Grant Park, my point was simply that she is calling the sky blue and poop stinky with most of the commercial. Not a single one of those stances was something that Kasim Reed or anyone else would oppose. It is way too late in the game to be airing these types of commercials. I want to hear where she differs from Reed, and why she thinks her stance is better without resorting to dirty antics.

Grant Park for your info Mary Norwood have been in city hall for 8yrs and the city is a mess she had her turn to fix the crime rates, pot holes, Recreation Center closen, Closen of Fire Station tell me Grant Park why is the city is in bad shape while Mary Norwood is still in the city hall..Shirley Franklin and Mary Norwood could have done something about this problem. Grant Park check your record on Mary Norwood 8 yrs is enough of time to do alot for the city…Mary Norwood is not for the City of Atlanta.

The notion of opening these recreation centers is great, however can anyone explain where this cost would be handled? I’ve got about 70$ in my savings account now after paying my bills. However I promise you more than anything I’d like to take about 100 poor kids out for some dinner and buy them some clothes. Reality then sets in that I can’t. This is real life people, not just a time to talk hope. Talk sense.

well common sense you do have a point I am voted for her because she is white and I am white. The city had to many black mayors to mess up this city. But I might switch over to Reed if Mary Norwood dont prove what she going to do about this crime in Atlanta. I am 70% I might vote for Reed because he is a strong candidate and Mary Norwood need to fire that Black lady who is one of her campaign manager.

Curious Question. I enjoy reading this political insider and used to love reading it in the actual print version also. I’ve never posted a comment on to the articles because I’d read them and move on, and saw no need to make a comment to strangers on the internet. Recently I have been reading the comments for the mayor race though and find most of them rather funny and not much informative.
The question I have is are most of these people commenting basically the same few folks from both of the campaigns. Do the Kasim bloggers/Mary bloggers just wait for the post and attack with campaign fodder. Just curious, you all seem well timed.

Bobble Head: Good point, and I do appreciate your response. As long as the politicians stay positive by not attacking the other–then thats fine by me whatever ad they produce. I prefer Norwood because she is not part of the machine that seems to have forgotten who the taxpayers and citizens that make up the city. I am sure Reed is a fine fellow; I met him at a meet and greet and he seems surely capable, but how does he differentiate himself from the powers that be that have run this city for 20 years? How is he different from Bill Campbell? Shirley Franklin? I think that is what Mary Norwood is trying to do; perhaps she is not hitting the mark, and perhaps that is why some of the posters here do not like the ad. Whoever says to me as a voter “We will do things differently!” has my vote, and so far in my opinion–thats Mary Norwood. So–go ahead and attack me, but my one person/one vote is the law, and my vote counts, too.
Regardless–all the hate-filled diatribes on here are reckless and below what this great city strives to be–and City Too Busy To Hate….but there sure is A LOT of HATE on these pages, and that is a sad shame. For what it is worth, my guess is most of these bloggers are actually the same people because much of the diction, grammar, and vernacular are the same.

I just want someone different besides the same old Cambell-Franklin line of politicians that have sunk the life out of city hall. Both Norwood and Reed seem capable of running our city, I’m just prefering to vote for the candidate that’s not with the same old Franklin group. I imagine most of the voters want and will do the same.

Did you know Bill Campbell gave Mary Norwood her start in civic leadership in the city? Also, I bet you didn’t know that many of Mary Norwood’s staffers are affiliated with our disgraced former mayor. Zee Bradford and Michael Langford, were high ranking Campbell officials. Bet you didn’t know that did you? Did you know that Clair Muller’s rise to prominence in Atlanta politics was supported and pushed by Maynard Jackson? Why do you think she is Transportation committee chair on council, that oversees the airport?
The bottom line is, affiliations to the current and past administrations run deep and wide and all are connected. Just sharing.
