Only 30 precincts have yet to report and it seems certain that the race for Atlanta mayor is headed for a runoff.
Mary Norwood and Kasim Reed have danced a line most of the night, neither moving much from their current margins. With 140 of 170 precincts reporting, Norwood has 45.15 percent of the vote, compared to 36.89 percent for Reed. Lisa Borders, who conceded earlier, has 14.40 percent.
Norwood said moments ago at her campaign celebration at the Varsity that a runoff is on its way.

Maybe Mary Norwood can buy more votes and endorsements (Able Mable) lol,use more dead people to stake her claim or use Maynard Jackson’s name/legacy, whose family have requested that she not stop using his name, to win the runoff against Reed. How sad Mary Norwood, run on your merit and please respect the families of dead loved ones, who have requested that you stop using their loved ones in your political advertising, have some respect for these families.

My hat goes off to Kasim Reed for running an excellent campaign and coming far from behind to make it to the runoff. It appears that the Atlanta public was not so duped after all, believing the polls and all of the negativity towards Reed.
Reed is very knowledgeable of the issues, loves Atlanta, and will well represent our great city in any arena. His campaign staff and volunteers of all of Atlanta’s ethnic groups speaks to the kind of Mayor he will make.
Congratulations to Lisa Borders for her well-run campaign. Lisa is articulate and seems to have a grasp of the real issues facing Atlanta. She has a bright future ahead in whatever direction she goes from here. She represented females well in the race, certainly head and shoulders over Mary Norwood.
People must realize that for the past eight years, Mary Norwood has been running for Mayor at taxpayers expense! Yes, she was in every neighborhood, but what has she done for the neighborhoods except show up every time a pin dropped?
It is a shame and deplorable that her campaign has the audacity to connect her name with Maynard Jackson in any shape, form or fashion! It is a grave insult to the intelligence and legacy of the greatness of Mayor Jackson! His family should sue her for defamation of his character!
Well folks, let’s keep Atlanta moving forward, rather than backwards a century! Go out and vote for Kasim Reed as our next Mayor. You will be glad that you did!

I am a visitor JUST observing. Atlanta has not moved forward in the race department. How pitiful, that is what is holding this city back. Put race aside and vote for the better candidate.

OK, prediction here. Whichever candidate is favored by the black community will LOSE the runoff because history shows that blacks simply do not participate in runoffs in large numbers, and in an off year election the turnout will be even lower.
I’m not complaining about it, I’m thanking God for it.
