Norwood: Runoff likely

Mary Norwood told her supporters that the fight isn’t over and likely won’t be for nearly a month.

Speaking to her backers at the Varsity, Norwood said she anticipates a Dec. 1 runoff versus Kasim Reed and that they will “hit the ground running” Wednesday morning.

Knowing that Lisa Borders has already conceded she can’t catch the top two finishers, Norwood said she would “absolutely” extend an olive branch to Borders’ supporters.

Boooooooo! Spikes was the only good one out of the 4 front runners. Norwood is exceptionally unqualified. Borders needs to endorse Reed – lesser of 2 evils.

With 129 out of 165 precincts reporting, as of 11:15PM on election day, I saw the count of votes for the top three candidates was about 40,000 votes. HUH?! WHAT?! Could this be the lowest percentage of votes cast by registered votes in the history of this fine city? I was brought up to believe that if you did not vote, you gave up your right to complain about whatever those in office do once they have been elected. Citizens of Atlanta who stayed away from the polls – be ashamed…be very ashamed.

The trend will hold throughout the runnoff if there is a runnoff. Mary Norwood will be our new Mayor. We need a mayor that has concentrated her career on COMMUNITY. Thank you Mary

Congratulations Mary Norwood. Perhaps a New Resurgence of Atlanta is now possible. Best wishes for success in the Mayor’s run-off race.

The voter turn out in Atlanta is sad.
A city with a population over 530,000 and less than 50,000
show up to vote. All the problems in city, I guess no one cares.

“Reed trails Norwood just slightly with more than 80 percent of vote counted. ”

It used to be that an 8 point margin constituted more than “just slightly.”

Would a 3 point margin constitute a tie?

Eh, that was poorly worded. I meant the slightly to talk about the 80 percent, not the Norwood lead. Nice catch RGB — Aaron Gould Sheinin

Urple, the great thing is that you won’t have worry about taking time off from your grammar studies to vote in the run-off. If you voted the first time, they will just count your vote again. Trust me.

Reed…go to WAOK-AM and sister station V-103 first thing in the morning. Move to Kiss 104 and Majic after 10am.

Step to the Hip-Hop station Hot 107.9 for about 10 minutes to get the hood vote.

Statistically, it’s 45 to 38 to 14 if you use proper rounding techniques. Not 43 to 38 to 14. This how math in Atlanta’s budget works I bet and the AJC just follows suit.

Reed will be mayor if the same people turn out. If Reed doesn’t help get the vote out again on Dec. 1 then Norwood will win. I’m willing to bet most of Ms. Borders voters are going Kasim Reed.

Seriously…people congratulating Norwood? Have you ever heard her speak or listened to her stance on anything…probably not since she never gives a real answer to anthing. As one reader said, she is the “Big White Joke” and I know that the only reason she received these votes was because she was white just like me. Its a SHAME because she is TERRIBLE. I’m just glad Kasim Reed still has a chance in the run off election. Overcome color and vote on the issues people…my god!

Though I cast my ballot for Lisa Borders, a candidate I felt was most in touch with the very pressing social and economic concerns facing the city, and am very disheartened by her loss, I look forward to casting my next ballot for Sen. Kasim Reed. He is a candidate who understands the issues and can effectively lead this city.

Though the press seems to be infatuated with Mary’s campaign, for obvious reasons, I nevertheless prefer to not let the news media vote for me. Norwood is an unproven quantity who is only relevant because a large number of people would prefer to see some sort of racial “change” in the city. These folks are missing the point. Do you want “change” or competent, professional leadership? Norwood is in over her head, seems clueless, and I’m doubtful of her honesty in light of her ambivalence in regard to her political leanings. Atlanta elect a GOP mayor? Seems unthinkable.

Kasim Reed is qualified and ready! Vote for common sense.

I hope Mary Norwood will be our new Mayor. We need a mayor that has concentrated her career on COMMUNITY and neighborhoods. Lisa was the Corporate candidate. Do we not want a change? Kasim Reed ran Shirley’s campaign and is connected at the hip with her – there would not be a change. Mary Norwood IS the populist candidate in this race. It’s a bit counter-intuitive, but it’s interesting.

Mary Norwood has a LARGE percentage of the Black Community support. She has been in the community, working for several years. Kasim Reed is a great candidate. He has Maynard Jackson’s daughter supporting him…but unfortunately whomever she has endorsed politically in the past, always loses.

Reed is no Maynard Jackson…that’s for sure.
