“Voting my race”…..a sad statement, but perhaps not to crazy or sad when you consider what black politicians are running.

Kasim Reed I’ve checked out. A Black Political machine child. Borders? another one. Spikes? Intelligent but a suit. Corporate lawyerism at it’s worse.

Norwood?? Well, all the mud thrown at her by blacks and blacks with something to ‘protect’??

Makes you look closer. I would take Mary’s lack of experience (with a good bunch of advisers around her) over the corruption of Reed and Borders. They are already ‘known’ elements. And the ties to Franklin is more of this blatant corruption.

Keep the entitlements going!

I was thinking about Spikes seriously, and I’m white. But with all the racist garbage thrown by Reed/Franklin/Borders/ Democratic Party, et al….well,

These politicos must be very afraid of something…and this little old white woman scares the pants off them enough to make them so racist in public?? (I already know what they do in private….been a fly on the wall before…I guess because I’m white I disappear to them…have been in Krogers and heard the black employees hold forth in very LOUD voices what they think of white folk….no manners at all)

So all I can see is that they are very afraid of a white mayor….any white mayor. They are acting like spoilt children.

Grow up. You have had 35 years plus of hegemony and power and look at the state of Atlanta. I’m not saying a white mayor will make any difference, but we can hope….and not because of the color of her skin.

I’m voting for Mary, …doesn’t matter what color she is. Bring me a Black candidate that isn’t tied hand and tooth to the Black Power structure nor the Dem. Party, and I’ll check them out.

We don’t need four more years of a Franklin knock off.

It's amazing to me to read some of these posts by white voters who think that blacks have it better in Atlanta and they are the victims of "racism." Not sure they know what "racism" actually means--do you really think it just means talking negatively about a white person? Gosh, I wish that were the only racism the rest of us experienced, people talking negatively about us--what a relief that would be. I am neither white nor black but have lived in predominantly black and predominantly white neighborhoods in the past 10+ years, and I can testify that there's a good reason many voters worry that an inexperienced white mayor would not understand the needs of black Atlanta--then again, Shirley Franklin hasn't done much for black neighborhoods either. In white neighborhoods I saw how relatively fast things got taken care of. Roads get fixed; police respond; problems responded to. In my last neighborhood, over 99% black, we have to fight tooth and nail (and spend our own money) to deal with problems that the city should have been dealing with. The thing is that it isn't even just a racial thing--we live in the South, where race and class still have something to do with each other. The so-called white "minority" really isn't minority because it's generally upper or upper-middle class (the latter including young college-educated people who live in expensive condos and complain that they're poor).

All this to say, I'm really disheartened that the dialog has gotten this trivial. Why are we not talking about rich vs poor Atlanta, new vs. old Atlanta? About the issues that affect all of us and haven't been dealt with the past 8 years...I often have wondered what Atlanta would be like today had Gloria Bromell-Tinubu won back then...I'm disheartened that now that we have the chance to turn over a new page, none of the candidates seem to be capable of serving Atlanta's needs. They say they "listen" but are they going to keep doing so after elections are over?

The other sad thing is how hard it still is to vote. The people who vote are generally those interested in local politics; the fact that so little information is out there and we're still using traditional and outdated voting procedures guarantees that the outcome is not going to represent the true voice of Atlanta.

A vote for Norwood would put us back in chains and she would put the police dogs and fire hoses on us, lawdy. Those people who vote their race are demons.
Remember me taking on the 'smart ass white boys' and setting the stage for what Atlanta is today?
I am preacher and know what right. Ask Home Depot, I cleaned up their mess too.

Food for thought..Dem's have been running the inner cities of America for about 40 years. People in the inner cities of America have been complaining about the same things in the inner cities for the last 40 years. Have you forgotten that most of the great civil rights leaders have been republican, Fredrick Douglas, Dr. King Jr, swear to God, look it up!

Well the race for Mayor in Atlanta is certainly heating-up! It's great to hear ALL of the the comments and debate going on! I'm enjoying every bit of it. One big laugh for me was the robot call from Dominque Wilkins! What a laugh, he is not intelligent enough to know that had it not been for Maynard Jackson, Andrew Young and their coalition working together, HE would have not had a chance to play for the Hawks! Colored people seem to forget so fast the great sacrifice their ancestors made so that they can enjoy a better life. Well, it was just a few decades ago that their folks could not even vote, here in Georgia, lynching was the biggest sport of the season, and it was great fun riding through their neighborhoods with white sheets scaring the H out of them. Well I have been trying to help them, but their self-hatred is so strong, and their memory so short, they can be bought and sold for nothing, just like the old days!

I APPRECIATE THE PROGRESS MADE IN THIS CITY OVER THE PAST DECADES AND KNOW THAT ATLANTA HAS COME A LONG WAY FROM THE DIRT ROADS AND AIRFIELD. THE POOR COLOR PEOPLE CANNOT APPRECIATE THE ROLE THEIR PEOPLE PLAYED IN MAKING THIS HAPPEN. WHAT A SHAME. WHEN MLK RECEIVED THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE, WE HAD TO PUSH REALLY HARD TO GET HIS HOMETOWN TO HONOR HIM! HOWEVER, WE DID IT AND IN GRAND STYLE. !

LET'S GET TO THE HEART OF THE MAYORAL RACE. WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE QUALIFICATIONS OF THE CANDIDATES, WHAT THEY HAVE DONE FOR ATLANTA, THE POTENTIAL OF WHAT THEY MIGHT ACCOMPLISH, THE THREE COLORED CANDIDATES ARE HEAD AND SHOULDERS OVER THE OTHER CANDIDATE. HOWEVER, IT IS INTERESTING TO NOTE THAT ACCORDING TO THE POLLS THAT SHE IS OUT FRONT! DON'T THE POOR COLOR PEOPLE RECOGNIZE THAT THE POLLSTER CONTRIVED THIS FROM THE BEGINNING AND THEY HAVE ACCEPTED IT WITHOUT QUESTION? ALL THEY ARE DOING IS BEATING UP ON EACH OTHER AND LETTING THIS GREAT CITY SLIP BACKWARDS!

No one ever conceived that this big joke would work! Well we know now just how much our brainwashing accomplished! All we have to do now is continue to move back in the City and keep them in their place! I say this sadly, because I truly took a lashing from my neighbors when I continued to work towards unity in our community, However, I will continue to work to keep Atlanta a city too busy to hate. My hope is that we can again join forces to move forward!

Yes, I am voting on Tuesday, because I cherish that right! Who I am voting for is my business, cause I also cherish that right!!

WAKE-UP ATLANTA AND SMELL THE COFFEE!!! WHO IN THIS RACE HAS DONE MORE FOR THE CITY OF ATLANTA AND HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO CONTINUE OUR MOVE FORWARD IN MAKING US THE TRULY GREAT CITY WE DESERVE?

From reading these post, it seems playing the race card by any candidate is the right thing to do. Obviously, it motivates people. We as a people only have the government that we deserve. If we let subjects such as race dictate how we vote, can we really be mad about the city government? If any of the candidtes actualy told the truth, would you believe them? I mean come on now really? How many of you voters out there have actualy attented a city council meeting? How many voters out there have actualy researched the voting habits of Boarders, Norwood , or Reed when they were in public office? All that information is available through the Freedom of Information Act. What... you did not have time? Who does that? So instead you rely on information from what other people tell you rather than what you know. You only get the representation in government that you deserve. If you are going to vote for someone because a retired basketball player, or a rapper tells you to... then dont be so upset when there is a crap government in place.

The black power structure in Atlanta, that was so powerful, has gotten too complacent over the last decade and has taken the white minority constituency for granted. That complacency has turned into open and absolute disdain by many blacks towards whites, as they saw Atlanta as "black" and didn't need white people anymore. Shirley didn't address this unacceptable attitude at City Hall over her reign. Granted, this is a generalization, but it is the attitude that is perceived and which is uniting a white backlash in this election.

If you doubt it, just look at how the democratic party is going after Norwood. Shameless and desperate!!
