A second Democratic hit piece on Mary Norwood

A second mailer from the state Democratic party hit Atlanta mail boxes today – this one lumping front-running mayoral candidate Mary Norwood with GOP bugabears Rush Limbaugh, George W. Bush and Sarah Palin.

Take a look at the entire flyer by clicking here.

The text doesn’t stray far from the first mail piece, which struck Thursday and can be viewed here — along with Norwood’s defense of herself.

But given the presence on the back of a black woman – the most valuable demographic in city politics – it’s fair to assume that this piece of campaign literature is aimed more at Atlanta’s African-American community.

If this is the Cousins everyone is hating then you should all be ashamed.

He has done more for the city of Atlanta Campbell, Franklin, and Kasim combined and will ever be able to do.

Mary Norwood was asked if she voted for George W Bush and she replied, “I don’t remember”. How dumb do you think we are, Mary?

I just saw a new attack ad from Reed on Norwood. Politics ain’t beanbag, but this stuff is starting to look desperate. And this mailer lumping her in with Limbaugh and Palin is way over the line. I find it all pretty offensive and I’m not a Norwood fan. She just might get my vote on Tuesday. I want decency to return to City Hall.

A vote for Borders is a vote for Reed. Borders voters – she can not and will not get into the run off – you KNOW your second choice is Mary. Vote Mary.

A SECOND mailer? GA Dems, here’s a free piece of advice-focus on 2010! You’re gonna need the money! Leave this NON-PARTISAN race to the local folks. Thank you.

Lisa Lisa – I honestly don’t remember who I voted for in two Presidential elections. I remember wanting to vote for John Anderson but cannot remember if I actually did. I also thought if Perot could get 5% of the vote maybe we could get a third, middle party and fire the Dems and Reps. Again, I cannot remember what I finally did on election day.

I could see Norwood having the same problem remember whether to vote for a very flawed Al Gore or an even more flawed John Kerry. Bite your lip, vote for the lesser of two evils and try to block it out of your mind as soon as possible.

Besides, it’s Mary Norwood of 2009 we’d be electing, not Mary Norwood circa last century. Maybe she learned from a previous mistake!

Check the records…Kasim Reed donors include several state Republican; think they may have given to McCain/Palin? His first donor on the list is Rep. Schaffer, the guy that is working to kill Fulton County. If you look closer you’ll find quite a few.

The attacks on Mary Norwood are desperate attempts to sway folks who want CHANGE to come to ATLANTA!!!! In essence, they are swipes at people who have had enough of the nepotism that is a bound in city hall.

City hall employees living in Atlanta and who want to straighten things out at city hall are voting for Norwood. Her inroads to the senior community was sheparded by her hard work and the help of some well placed city council folks. LOL

Hopefully Mary will receive extra protection once she’s elected. The 100% race-fueled hatred her opponents have shown worry me. Liberals clearly have a violent side. There is no middle ground with these sociopaths.

One of many major problems we have in this country, state and in Atlanta as well is people
who are so ignorant that they go out and vote for whoever has a (R) of a (D) by their name.
If you vote a straight party line ballot every year you are just proving that you are unable to
think for yourself.
Kind of like being a slave to the party don’t you know.

Stay classy, Democraps! I’m not republican’t but when are these partisan tactics going to stop. both parties are acting like complete babies. This is why the Libertarian party is getting more and more enticing.

Just watch Channel 26. If you look closely enough during City Council meetings, you’ll notice that all Lisa Borders does is call out vote results and plays around with her BlackBerry. It doesn’t take a genius to see how disengaged she is from the ONLY meeting she’s required to attend. THAT’S the Mayor some of you want???? Quit huffing glue.

This is pure slimeball politics. The GEORGIA DEMOCRATIC PARTY is playing the race card to support their special interests campaign donors. It doesn’t get anymore dishonest or manipulative than this.

Just like Shirley’s racist robocall for John Eves ruined any pretense of integrity for her, so now this piece has stained the Democratic Party of Georgia.

How do they expect to win any statewide offices if they alienate all the white Democrats?

Jane Kidd should RESIGN NOW!

Leave it to the liberal democrat party to stir up racial issues when ever the going gets tough. I mean really, do you think liberals really want to have equality for all? They can’t live with that because it takes away their trump card. Race baiting and pitting one group against another is their specialty.

Reed has been running one of the dirtiest campaigns that I’ve seen in recent history. First he attacks Borders with the Republican slander and now Norwood. I guess he feels OK with that since he supposedly has his Dem bonafides.

If only Rush or Sarah Palin were running for Mayor now you are talking leadership.

GA Democrats can’t win anything big now in the state so now they take a hit job on one of their own because she is a white woman from Buckhead. Pathetic – next thing you know they are going to photo shop a picture of her shaking hands with Bull Conner

Wonder what hit job will come on Monday?

Proud Liberal For Mary

I’m certainly more liberal than most and I’m voting for Mary. I could really care less who she voted for in past Presidential elections and the fact that it came up during a debate shows you just how pathetic politics can be. Our mayoral election is not about George Bush, Sarah Palin, or Rush Limbaugh and if we allow it to be, then that is our own stupidity. What I want is an effective mayor at city hall who cares about running the city with efficiency, one who realizes that every crime that occurs in Atlanta is one too many and every dollar that is spent is courtesy of the taxpayer. Kasim Reed’s opinion changes depending on where he is and what group he is talking to. Lisa Borders is desperately trying to hang on to something that might have been. The only consistent one in the crowd is Mary.

I really hope the folks writing and publishing this trash are reading these comments. I was undecided about who would receive my vote– but if this is how Borders/Reed want to communicate– Norwood has my vote. This is not about partisan politics — but who can lead our city in tough times and name calling and fear mongering is not leadership.

If a bunch of white people acted and said things like this about the black candidates running for mayor we would be RACIST, but yall blacks doing it to the white candidate is ok! So go ahead and vote another mayor in like you have now so you can continue to bankrupt the city and the state for that matter. Can’thave the white candidate win because lets face it, that means yall would actually have to get a job and not get anymore free money like yall are used to getting from franklin, Campbell, young, and Jackson, etc..Atlants is being robbed blind by you people and its about time someone with some brains gets elected!

So where do you think the funding for this comes from? Could it be Mayor Franklin’s campaign contribution “residuals”?

Given that the mailers came out just after the 25th of October (a filing deadline for local races and campaign sources and uses of funds), for which Franklin would have to file – I’ll make a big wager on this one – Franklin is funding the hit pieces!

So why would Franklin do it – she doesn’t want Mary opening the books after she is gone.

Judging from the disparaging comments Republicans are making about Democrats, I don’t see a lot of differences between the two parties. Republicans appear to be just as crass and rude as Democrats. It’s like a frog calling a toad ugly. If Atlantans want their city to prosper and get rid of questionable politics, you better vote for Norwood.

Scared to death

What scare tactics! If Lisa and Kasim are putting all of their energies and money into “trying” to scare folks into voting for them..guess where my vote is going….GO MARY!!!!!! Laugh hard out loud!

Maybe they need to get some big big mirrors and look in them. I really don’t remember either one of them attending any of our community meetings over a LONG PERIOD OF TIME like Mary Norwood has and still does!

Bring on the Clorox Mary and CLEAN UP CITY HALL!!!

Kasim Reed is a racist. Borders is a moron. Mary Norwood is the only shot Atlanta has of getting back on track.

October 30th, 2009

Too funny.. It shows how scared they are.. I like how the racists, such as Lowery, said that blacks are afraid that a white mayor would “take back” all of the progression the black community has made over the years. Not an eye lash was batted to that comment.

If someone came out, and said that electing Obama would remove all the progression that white people have made over the years, you’d be that person would be blackballed till they moved to another country!

Keep hatin’ Atlanta. Your poor, stupid, and racist to boot! It’s laughable at best when it’s been quoted that the voting populace of ‘Black Atlanta” was lowered when the public housing was destroyed… Too bad a city can’t really crumble away and fail… Atlanta would be a good start.

NORWOOD FOR MAYOR! It is time to clean up Atlanta….Mary can do it!

October 30th, 2009
4:06 pm

I’m with the side that agrees… If this is the way Reed and Border want to run the gamut, then so be it. I’ll be punchin’ my vote for Norwood simply because I think these antics are the exact reason we need something different. I don’t want the same old crap we’ve had for years and years.. If it means the person is of a different skin color, then so be it. I could care less.. But the DNC of GA just shat where it sleeps, and I think this was another bad move.. especially considering they must have had the authorization to put Reed and Borders on the slanderous card!

October 30th, 2009
4:07 pm

It is EXACTLY this kind of politics that drove me away from the Democratic party. It is a waste of money and in no way helps us understand what the other candidates might do differently. I want to know where THEY stand, not that they want to take someone else down. It is simply identifying Norwood as the leader amongst them. It is exactly this kind of crap that is hurting this country and keeping us from dealing with the REAL issues. Anyone ignorant enough to base their vote on “information” like this, should not be allowed to vote.

October 30th, 2009
4:08 pm

Stop playing the race card, this is in no way racial. The Democratic Party is playing POLITICS! If you’re of any level of intelligence you can see this is in no way racial. Jane Kidd is a WHITE WOMAN for crying out loud! They’re trying to beat Norwood and they’re not using race to do it! It’s called politics, full contact! There are many whites involved in this effort AGAINST Norwood. It’s just the majority of whites are going with the WHITE candidate.

Now is Mary Norwood that good of a candidate? Or some whites the ones making this about race?

October 30th, 2009
4:09 pm

The best thing for Norwood to do is stay above the fray on this matter. The opposition is looking desperate and more flyers like that will probably get more votes for Norwood than anything.

Running negative works most of the time, sure. But I suspect Norwood will actually gain votes from these negative flyers.

Angry Taxpayer, you just sent chills down my spine…

Of course, it’s very obvious, but it didn’t occur to me…

Shirley is scared beyond scared of what might happen when Mary checks the City books. Look what happened to our last Mayor. To stoop to these tactics – and don’t think for one minute that Shirley didn’t know about these flyers – Shirley had to have some motivation. It’s becoming very clear.

Most people don’t have children who are arrested as part of a drug money laundering scheme. Most don’t have children who are out late in bars where people are talking to them one minute and shooting at them the next. That’s because most people learn right from wrong growing up in households where laws are honored. We don’t hang out with thugs, criminals and pushers. We don’t marry drug lords.

In her bitterness, its becoming very obvious that Shirley Franklin is very scared of something. All the more reason to get Mary in there. She might not be the ideal candidate, but she is the best hope of business as usual becoming business of the past.

Thanks Shirley Franklin and the Democratic Party for clearly showing us why we should vote for Mary Norwood.

It is official: Borders and Reed are now very desperate. They are resorting to mailing campaign ads which race-bait and tout lies about the leading candidate. They should be ashamed of themselves. It is apparent that they don’t care about the City of Atlanta, or leadership. All they want is that pot of gold at the end of the mayoral rainbow.

Anyone that believes Borders and Reed’s slanderous baloney is willing to be led around by their nose and told what to think by crooked politicians.

Mary Norwood is above-board, highly qualified, and honest. Rather than stooping to her opponents’ level of sleazy tactics and lies, she puts in the hard work and time for all of the citizens of Atlanta. We are voting for Atlanta’s future. Norwood is the best candidate to lead Atlanta.

As I stated on the eariler post, I am disgraced as a Georgia Democrat that my state party would sink to such a low blow. It’s called desperation. This is a non-partisan position. Mary has overwhelming support from all races, and has raised most money within the city (unlike the other two)candidates whom have large sums from outside the state even.

I truly had not made a decision about my vote until I saw these mailers, Franklin’s attack on this blog, and the latest Reed attack ad against Norwood that started today. It’s just poisonous stuff. Rather than put their efforts into getting supporters, they’ve chosen a bad horse on a low road. I don’t need to hear anymore. I’m voting for Norwood. And yes, I am a Democrat. There are six voters in our house and all of them are going to Norwood.

Mayor Franklin told the audience at a recent Butler Street YMCA Hungry Club Forum something her father told her: people who know the issue don’t have to speak much because they can choose their words carefully and they don’t have to bring negativity into the debate because they have the facts. Yet, here she is slinging mud (and everything else) at Mary Norwood in the final hours of the campaign. Franklin either didn’t learn that fatherly lesson too well or she’s getting scared that Norwood might win and is trying every desperate attempt to turn voters off to a Norwood administration.

When asked by Morse Diggs of FOX 5 yesterday (Thursday, Oct. 29) during a press conference what she meant by her recent attacks on Norwood, Franklin had no answer, only that on the blogs she has the right to speak her mind just as the average citizen does. So….she begins attacking Norwood when it’s apparent Norwood is the strong front-runner, yet she won’t elaborate on what she meant when she posted these words on this blog: “I support candidates with vision, integrity and intelligence and I have voted for candidates with these 3 characteristics throughout my life. Mary Norwood has none of these.”.

She goes on to say that Norwood has not led on ethics reform. While Franklin likes to tout ethics reforms she made early on into her administration, the City now only has 1 ethics officer handling hundreds, if not thousands, of ethics complaints. That’s supposed to be considered reform? Don’t sell me a freshly painted Pinto and tell me it’s a Cadillac; I ain’t buyin’ it.

Franklin also wrote about how Norwood has spent the past 8 years building a political network to run for mayor. However, Franklin, herself, is a product of the same Maynard Jackson/Andrew Young political machine that got former convict Bill Campbell elected.

Maybe when Franklin actually knows what she’s talking about she’ll speak less and choose her words more carefully. Maybe.
